    Helpful info., thanks... my beautician also told me to avoid caffeine to avoid burning because caffeine opens the pores of the scalp. Ever since i started avoiding coffee on relaxer day, i haven't had any burns.

    If scratching use your actual finger pads to gently to massage the itch
    If you apply away from. Scalp you won't get burning. I normally do get it on scalp and not burned it's all to do with how you cared for scalp. Always best to get it nice and clean for previous 2 weeks before relaxing and oiling it nicely not scratching it, not having hot drinks etc keep products to an minimum to a simple regime.

    I wish I could go to a stylist. Where I live, there are no stylists for black hair. I have to do my own hair. That's not an exaggeration. I've been looking for a stylist and have interviewed some. They simply just can't do black hair. I live in a rural area. I'm glad just to be able to find black hair care products near me
    Anyway, my question, what are some things that can be used as a base?

    I want to thank you for your channel and sharing your knowledge. Your videos have been extremely helpful.
    My hair grows very fast and I enjoy experimenting with new hair care products. If an experiment does not go well I simply cut it off and try something different. I decided to relax my hair using olaplex before and after. I followed all of your instructions my hair came out amazing! After I washed out the relaxer and did the olaplex treatment I waited an hour and immediately did the Brazilian Blowout. My hair is perfectly straight, no frizz, no texture, soft and supple. I used an electric round brush blow dryer no heat to dry my hair. The hair is perfectly straight no need for a flat iron! It is really amazing! I wear my hair wrapped under a Nike exercise skull cap. I will not relax my hair for another 6 months and while I'm waiting I will use the Brazilian Blowout as I stretch the relaxer time. I will continue to watch your instructional videos. Thank you so much for sharing your information.
    P.S.
    I had no burning or itching sensation at all. I pre-based the scalp and edges just as you said.

    I am strongly considering relaxing my hair myself, why? Because I have been to hairstylists who constantly burn my scalp! Supposed professionals, who dont know and dont care about the relaxer process. I have searched high and low for a hairstylist who takes this chemical process seriously, but when they are busy(due to overbooking), or chatting to their colleagues it has become inevitable that at some point they are going to damage my hair and scalp!

    I would also add do not wash your face on the day before and morning of your relaxer, just use wipes to clean the face and avoid wiping by the hairline. Or if you must wash your face avoid the hairline but it is hard to do this.

    Hi Toya
    I recently got a perm. Prior to getting a relaxer I was natural for 5 years. About one to two weeks after getting the perm, my scalp started itching and burning nonstop! I put the gel from an aloe Vera plant on my scalp twice a day and it’s giving me much relief. My beautician suggested that I go to the doctor and she also said it wasn’t from the perm since the itching/burning occurred two weeks after the perm.
    I didn’t go to the doctor because I knew it was the perm. Please let me know if perm irritations normally happens immediately after getting a perm or can it occur one to two weeks later. Also, my scalp did burn a few minutes after the perm was applied. She ran water over the burning area, but did not rinse it out immediately. So it sat on my hair while she tended to another client. Anyway, just asking out of curiosity, but no more perms for me.

      I say no bc oil absorbs into your hair and scalp, since hair likes oils. I recommend using petroleum jelly (I promise itll wash out,) or if you want to use natural oils, do it RIGHT before you relax.

      ToyaJtv Thank you for replying. And No, I haven't relax my hair ever by my own, I am asking you because here in Colombia the hairstylist don't know much about relaxed hair. They don't based the scalp and the edges after relaxing we don't used to apply protein treatment, when the hairstylist apply the relaxer she uses the tooth of a comb to get stretch hair, and take 30 minutes to rince it out. I think that's why I am experiencing a loooooot of breakage and my hair looks so weak and thin. I am learning with you

    • @mybabykiwi2218
      @mybabykiwi2218 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Katherine Barcasnegras Don't worry your English is really good!
      Once you wash your hair (shampoo/conditionier) you should wait *atleast* one week before doing a relaxer.
      When you relax your hair you should follow the instructions in the box (the relaxer box you bought) that say how long you should leave the relaxer on your hair.
      Don't exceed the time limit/do not wait for your scalp to burn! Then
      Wash the relaxer out completely! When I wash out my relaxer the lather is very pink on the first wash, and i need to keep washing till the lather becomes white. Sometimes i wash my hair 5 times for all the relaxer to be removed. That can take up to 20-30 minutes for me.
      Once you've finished shampooing, you should deep condition your hair.
      I hope this helps.
      But please do not attempt to relax your hair by yourself without doing all your research first!
      🙂

      @TheAnonyy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@katherinebarcasnegras5087 build up condition of hair for previous weeks having protein once per month using heat, I use mizani line ORS aloe shampoo and conditioner is a good option as are keracare products. Most of your shampoo/conditioner washes should be the moisturising kind for every wash. You should Check your hair porosity but need a clarifying shampoo to strip hair before doing this as oil floats on water plenty of videos on how to do this.
      One week before relaxing do not wash hair, need the scalp in a dry and no stress state, oil scalp lightly every other night depending on how dry it is, it may irritate you if you put on to much oil and it does slow down relaxer so careful of this, do not scratch use pads of fingers to massage any itches. Do not have hot drinks it raises body temperature causing minor sweats. Comb hair with wide tooth comb Base scalp vaseline is a good option for edges, ears etc careful if using on scalp as it can prevent relaxer from taking so would recommend another base or it one come in box relaxer (ORS Does one) which are (no lye [gentler on scalp] - has activator bottle inside), section hair onto 4 comb with wide tooth comb set timer obviously select correct strength for hair, apply relaxer slightly off scalp so it's only on the hair go through hair as fast as possible don't touch roots when parting then go back to smooth it and apply more of necessary you can smooth with back of comb. Some comb through with narrow teeth but as you are new to it I would not recommend. Whatever you try to avoid touching ten scalp. If you do get burning during process you can use an oil sheen spray to calm it down a little.
      When ready to wash out rinse with warm water or as cool as you can tolerate it, but not cold though as the water reduce the pH level. Do this twice to wash out relaxer well, then move onto neutraliser wash throughly I cannot say this enough wash hair and scalp really well. In all I shampoo/conditioning my hair 5 or 6 times to ensure relaxer is out sometimes there is residue. It just depends on how well you wash the hair. But careful as it may feel like straw. once neutralised use a shampoo that is more conditioning to soften the hair up then apply a conditioner, again ors orange smelling one has mild protein in it and is very good for steaming its my favourite one.
      If you ever heard of aphogee 2 step this is a hard protein to be be used if you get serious breakage that just a liquid and need the balancing moisturiser after it as it gets hard like rock and you must moisture straight after it. The mild protein products are mixed in with conditioner or lotion like product. If you do not to know about protein overload. If you use a strand of hair and pull it should show you how easy it is to snap if it's too easy need protein of it stretches you have enough moisture in the hair. You do have to be aware of any damage they maybe further up the strand of any hair bands that can cause stress to the hair. Butterfly clips or Bobby pins are better.
      You just need to assess condition of hair. Recommend getting a chelating shampoo as no lye relaxers (box) leave hair with calcium deposits lye ones do not mizani have one. You should try long hair care forums for more info on black hair care and products Ltd been around for at least 10 years and are very active there. You do have subscribe to post but free to view posts.
