I had to cut all of the relaxed hair off. As a matter of fact, I cut all of my hair down to 2 inches. I kept the natural look for a little over a year before going back to the creamy crack. Affirm works for me. My hair is now pass my shoulders and looks very healthy.

Excellent video I went back to a relaxer after 12 yrs. My hair was so thick I got tired of twisting and wearing afros..lol. I'm 66 and enjoying my relaxed journey again. All of it is still work. Thank you so much for your help..🌹🙏
I added a low iron supplement to my diet two years ago and the shedding, the length retention is astonishing. I had been borderline anemic before but fell off of paying attention. I also really cut the amount of manipulation other than bi-weekly wash and roller set. I am able to stretch my relaxers to twice a year from four times a year on advice of my trichologist. On your advice I made my stylist protect my ends when relaxing. I also started adding some oils to my bi-weekly deep conditioners under the steamer or dryer for 30 minutes. I do a protein/moisture balance bi-weekly and do a protein treatment as well as Olaplex when I relax, two weeks before and two weeks after. I trim every relaxer or if I see it needs a dusting. I roller set and dry under hooded dryer for 2 hours bi-weekly and that is all the heat I use. My new regimen for the last two years has been super easy with the lock downs so babying has become the norm. I am at bra strap length when straight and will continue to see how much I can grow.

This video came at a great time for me since I recently had a setback! I have 4c fine hair which I started relaxing back in 2016. Unfortunately I didn't knew that I had to adopt a hair care regimen plus my previous hairdresser was constantly applying the relaxer on my entire head so my hair was very long but also dry, had a few tiny pieces because of breakage and was very overprocessed. I started my healthy relaxed hair journey in december of 2019 after I switched hairdressers and did a bob cut. That made me reset my whole journey and with the help of the new salon and your tips (deep conditioning, moisturize and seal, moisture and protein balance, etc.) my hair grew ALOT and was very healthy and thick. Unfortunately (again), since I got to a state where my hair looked GREAT, in 2021 I started to care for it a bit less because life got in the way and I had less time for it, and now it is back at the same lenght I had before the bob cut (a bit longer even) but very dry, and my ends are very thin and see through as a result of also not doing a cut since 2019 and trimming lightly only on relaxer days (usually around 18 to 23 weeks), so I grew out the last part of the overprocessed ends that remained at the top of my head but didn't cut it when I should have. One thing that you've said before is that when relaxed hair is healthy it starts to grow alot thicker which in my case is very true especially because I use castor oil alot, but with the whole situation with my dry ends i'll probaby have to cut my hair twice this year just because i don't want to get a bob cut again and rather continue to grow out the hair and cut it progressively. I'll have my relaxer appointment next friday after stretching for 22 weeks because I really wanted to double the moisture intake on my hair and after the cut I intent to restart my journey again still applying your tips, and with a kids relaxer which is less agressive on my fine hair and tends to leave a tiny bit of texture which makes it look alot fuller and thicker. Hey Val, happy subscriber here. Your channel has been a guide to me since I return to relax hair.. My hair strived so much and gained a lot of length. However, I'm 4months Post Partum and my hair is falling out so bad. I'm still taking my vitamins and I'm not manipulating it too much bcuz everytime I touch my hair clumps come out. Im also doing rosemary hair rinses. Do you have any advice as to what other measures I can take to save the rest of my hair?
Hi Val, I have been following your channel since October last year and I have learnt a lot. I have developed a healthy hair routine and am seeing improvement. Much love from Nairobi, Kenya.
great tip about using the coconut oil as a pre poo!! i bought some coconut oil because i really wanted the benefits that come with using it, but it made my hair so hard that i only used it once. i never thought about using it as a pre poo or mixing it with a deep conditioner and washing it out, what an excellent idea!!
These are great tips for Relaxed and Natural. I’m natural with 4c hair and I not too long ago starting using Olaplex. What a big difference! Ayurvedic Oils/Tea Spritz/Hair Mask for a lil razzle dazzle … so far, so good. I’ve been washing my hair weekly, keeping it moisturized, steaming and using a heat cap. No Manipulation since my 4th big chop in September. I stopped comparing and did what worked for me. Thanks for this ✨💕✨
Fantastic tips! I’ve had my hooded hair dryer for 15 years & it’s still going strong- great investment. Agree that coconut oil & castor oil are my best friends. I’m not relaxed but love your tips.👍🏽
I used to have thick voluminous hair growing up. But overtime it started thinning (when my mom stopped taking care of it and I was left to do it myself) then add depression + low self esteem that made me not take care of myself at all for years. On top of me adding relaxers to it while not taking care of it at all. So my hair is fighting for its life right now. Surprise and happy I’m not bald headed.
I am just now seeing this video. However for the past year many of these tips I have been doing. I use no heat on my hair ever. I touch up every 16 weeks and dust my ends every 8 weeks. I use mainly organic homemade products on my hair. I use a homemade organic protein treatment the week before I touch up. I deliberately under process for TexLaxing. I like a lot of texture in my hair. My hair is now the healthiest it has ever been. 👍🏽🤗
I started following you YEARS ago when I was relaxed; when Neutrogena triple moisture (NTM) daily leave in was one of your staple products. Love, love, LOVED this product for my relaxed hair AND my natural hair when I transitioned in 2011. Would love if you could recommend a product equivalent to it, since it has been discontinued 🫤. I continue to follow you because the tips that you provide for relaxed hair works equally well for natural hair. You provide sound, valuable advice. Keep doing what you do, enlightening and sharing. Be blessed.💜👍🏾
The delivery of your videos is so informative and encouraging that we can apply it in our everyday life. Thank you so much for your hard work and love for us to succeed whether we are relaxed or natural. You are amazing!🤗💖
Awesome tips!!!❤️ God bless you abundantly for always sharing and helping because following your advice has made my relaxed hair REALLY THRIVE!!!❤️🙏🏽 No more dryness and breakage.
Thank you so much for the education. As I feel with your knowledge and experience, I feel more confident to grow my daughter's hair and I don't need to be afraid of relaxing it. I have been through many experiences and other you tubers experiences and your style and experiences may he's my daughter's. So thank you for all your work and effort.
I'm not relaxed but your video was recommended and I'm glad it was! these are fabulous tips for everyone :) I would also add scalp massages to the list. I don't do them as regularly as a I could but something in my spirit tells me it's doing something haha
My hair is also making a come back. I tend to only get to bra strap and currently the center of my crown is broken short. My main issues: keeping my hair tangle free, consistent trimming, and consistent deep conditioning for moisture. I also think over processing was an issue in the past. Thank you for these tips. They are clear, logical, concise. I was able to reverse engineer my hair journey and see what steps I wasn’t doing correctly. #teamgeneticpotential
@@skyelynnae hair twin! Or should I say: hair issue twin! I believe my breakage at the center crown area is from rough detangling as that area gets tangled the worst. And I think I over process the area because that center area is so curly and prone to tangles. So I now keep my hair detangled throughout the week and conscientiously wash my hair as not to cause more tangles. All the best to you on your journey!
You have a lot of educational information in some of your videos that is informative about hair health in general. You let us know the benefits of certain oils & all sorts of values you give. Thanks a lot. It's greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for this video!! You really over some key points! I hope to follow these steps soon , trying to take better care of my hair this year
My stylist always put relaxer on my relaxed hair I am dealing with breakages since November now...I can see how thin the over-relaxed hair are they were high porosity now they are low porosity the breakages continue..I keep taking care of them myself.everytimes I keep telling myself I can fixed this, I can do it those words help to keep me from cutting everything off again,it took me so long to grow them back...I even have nightmares.the last time I went to her to relaxed my hair I think she did cause breakages on my hair on purpose because I stopped going to wash my hair at her salon..when I wash my hair on my own I hv no itchy scalp and I am more careful on putting the rollers....it sucks that I can't relax my hair on my own.
What you say about the genetics thing is so true. Women would come up to me all the time & ask what products I use to make my hair so thick. I honestly don’t use a lot of products, it’s been years since I’ve used a flat iron & I just leave it alone. Also, I work out too much to be doing all the extras only to sweat it out later that week! 🤣🥴Healthy hair is definitely from the inside out too. Awesome video. ❤️
Happy Sunday Lovely Hairlicous. My hair is doing well, I just got a touch up almost 2 weeks ago. My hair was noticeably longer on the left side so my hubby who always trims my hair gave me a nice ✂ to wear I was satisfied with the look & feel of my ends. Thank you for sharing 😍💕😘.
Thank you!!! As a new follower I would love to see a video on dusting your ends which I imagine for you is not too difficult since your hair is one length. Mine is 13 inches crown to chin (front) and 16 inches crown to shoulders (back). Agree with pretty petals; you inspire us!! 😍
You always have such good advice. I stopped self relaxing, just because I cannot see the back and I always over over process the back. I love Design Essentials for my relaxer and all of their products on relaxer day. I will definitely apply their pre relaxer protectant before I get to the salon. I am so proud of myself for stretching for 6 months will very little breakage...I thought about going longer but I'm good! LOL!!!
@@thehairyramie I stretch 6 months pretty easily. I go into protective style mode when the new growth gets to be too much. However, my 6 months ends today and I've already scheduled that appointment for this week!! 😅 I cannot wait!
Your channel has been so helpful for my relaxed hair journey. I'm definitely gonna be trying the oil/grease/conditioner before I go back to the salon for prevent runoff damage
For protein, I use raw eggs mixed with coconut oil and leave on (NO HEAT) for 30-45 min under a plastic cap. Then shampoo. Works wonders and is natural.
I still have my hooded dryer. I just gave up on the natural hair journey. Natural hair is not for me right now in my life. I have done natural over ten years and stress affects my hair. I’ll start taking my vitamins again. I’m never consistent. I don’t know if vitamin d deficiency affects our hair because that’s the only thing I’ve notice that has changed in my check ups. I used to have this super thick hair when I lived in Florida and now I’m in Georgia and it’s not the same so that’s why I gave up on the natural hair. I also thinks the water we use to wash our hair changes it. I know I’ve been stressed a lot lately with work so that didn’t help. I did a protein treatment recently and will do it again. Since relaxing my hair, it feels healthier. I didn’t even have to cut it short like I was thinking I needed to. Thank you for the tips.
This video is awesome. Once in a while I used to prepoo with coconut 🥥 oil. A week and a half ago I moderately applied coconut oil and I did not wash it out for 2 days. My hair felt dry thick but I kept up with my routine The dryness disappeared but the thickness is amazing. I swear by regular trims. Trim gets rid of the unhealthy ends so that we can retain thickness and length..
Thank you for eloquently explaining our hair✨✨ I genuinely adore your channel and other platforms you have. Lastly, can you please share your shears information? Thanks in advance beautiful soul💞💞
People don’t know this . But coconut oil is a protein . That’s why it can leaves your hair hard at times. Coconut oil should be only applied to the scalp .unless you need a protein treatment.
Can I say dark and lovely triple moisture is great, know your hair: protein/moisture balance, baggying(hairlista informed), co washing, protective styles, health scalp(tea tree/peppermint oil), dusting your ends, stretching relaxers-i only relax every other holiday, and DEEP CONDITIONING- has helped me so much...I know my hair so well....I can look and feel it and know what it wants right away. It's possible. Long hair don't care.
This video is extremely helpful.....I am going back to a relaxer next week at a salon. I have fine hair and my strains are very coily in its natural state. Thanks again for the tips!
So excited to see this video from you! I am proud to announce that I decided to self relaxed. I followed your videos step by step- no burning, no shedding!!! OMG wash day is going to be a breeze lol I opted for a lye relaxer, the one I don’t have to mix. Question- whenever you’re doing touch ups, do you save the remaining relaxer since you won’t use the entire tub? If so, how do you preserve it?
Congratulations 🎊 I self relax too! Hairlicious’ steps are definitely holy grail steps🧚🏾♀️ This was the exact question that popped up in my head this week while using the last bit of my no-lye relaxer. How to preserve the rest of the tub of the lye relaxer if I decide to make the switch
@@butterfly9274 just take out the amount you need for the relaxer in a bowl and seal back the container. Whatever is left over in the bowl after you finish the application you would discard
Good morning. This is my first time on your page. You have done a great job with all the info you provided and have a great day. I just loved it and i am 6 years natural.
Thank you very much for this video. Please I want to relax my natural hair for the first time. Any advice for me please? I have a tender and very sensitive scalp 🤲
Very, very informative. I think drinking more water has contributed to my hair’s burst of growth. I’m not a vitamin or supplement fan so I try to get my nutrients through my heart healthy diet.
Hello. I just came across your video! Great tips. So I have been natural for YEARS and I have naturally curly hair so I have been wearing it curly for years. Getting trimmed and going to a curly hair specialist to get tips as well. I have single-strand knots because I believe im not detangling it well so now my hair has become significantly thin. It's depressing to me because my hair was once thick and long. So I am wearing it straight for awhile because I think me having it curly is causing me to have single strand knots which causes major breakage. I think sometimes my hair won't get thick again!😔 So watching your video is giving me hope!
As always very good advice. I think this video is a reminder of all I've learned from you. I found myself going 'check', yup, doing it, got it, uh huh and so on. My only issue is at 6 weeks I get scared and uncomfortable with my hair. It feels dry and brittle and even if I do a deep conditioner a day or two later nothing. However my hair is way better than it was before. It's almost at bra strap and I'm happy with the progress. Thank you for what you do. It truly helps and you are indeed an inspiration. 💞
Lol. Love that!! At 6 weeks, in between wash days, spray your new growth with a water based moisturizer ie. Scurl, Taliah Waajid Protective Leave-in etc. this helps a ton at keeping it soft and manageable. I have a video on this.
Yesss!! It really helps to add thickness to the hair. Less processing = more volume = more fullness to the hair. You're so welcome! Thanks for watching💕
Tell me about it. We thin- hair girls really suffer and people don't understand that we were born this way. No nutrient problems or diseases just genetics!
Hello I am a natural girl im 23 and ive never gotten a relaxer before but after being 23 years natural i want to start relaxing! I was wondering if you can do a morning and night hair care routine and if you have any tips for a new relaxed girl 😊 your videos have really helped me figure out if this is something i want to do so i would really like your knowledge on what i should be doing on a daily to keep my hair long and healthy even though im using chemicals now
Hey Val, since I started following your protective method om relaxer day my hair has thickened and looks better. I just find a distinction along the length of my hair between the bone straight time and this new method.
Hi Val, I experienced some hair loss with my last at home relaxer a week ago. I am pretty sure the relaxer was too strong for my hair, even though it was regular strength. I have an area that broke off to the scalp! Thank goodness, it can be camouflaged when styling. I did go and get a good trim the same day. Needless to say, I will never use that relaxer brand again and will stick to what I know. Surprisingly, I am not too devastated because it could have been worse. I am doing JBCO massages EOD, deep conditioning weekly, moisturizing and sealing opposite days I use JBCO. I am roller setting and wearing low buns. I do not like wigs. I would greatly appreciate any tips or suggestions. Thank you so much!
@@chocolatediamonds5760 hi there, it was Motions regular. This week I used Olaplex no. 3 and followed with Joico reconstructer and I can already see and feel the difference in my hair
Thank you for these tips. You are such an inspiration for both relaxed and natural hair people. Your tips on hair care is good for both type hair.. I always look forward to your tutorials. ❤️
I love relaxed hair, but my hair doesn't feel the same way. When I would relax my hair (over 12 years ago) I noticed once my new growth came in, the relaxed hair became unmanageable after a couple of months as if I never relaxed my hair. Does anyone know the reason behind that?
It’s the difference in hair texture. Your hair at the roots, whether it’s type 3 or especially type 4 is much more likely to tangle due to its curl structure. It also tends to be much more dense than the straightened hair.
So informative! I admire your consistency and investment in your method and doing your research. I’ve been binge watching your videos for the past two weeks. I’m planning my virgin relaxer at the end of the month after 6 years of being natural hair journey. I’ve never felt more educated, excited and ready to start enjoying my hair again!! Thank you 🙏🏾💐
Hi Val! Thanks once more, totally agree with you on the topic of coconut oil for my hair, but I find that, like protein my hair needs less and less use as I learned healthy hair habits (credits to you too)
Great tips. I just was saying this about genetics. People often would ask what products I was using but I would tell them that’s only part of the journey. Ill have to see about using coconut oil with my wash day.

Yes to checking your iron! the first time I had a blood test 2 years ago I found out I was Extremely Iron deficient! I would have never know
Wow!! Thanks for sharing that. Iron check ups are major👏🏾

I haven't had a relaxer in years I've been thinking about going back to one. This helps. Thank you.

Thanks for this ✨💕✨
Right?! No comparisons. Focus on what works for you. Thanks for watching hun💕
Fantastic tips! I’ve had my hooded hair dryer for 15 years & it’s still going strong- great investment. Agree that coconut oil & castor oil are my best friends. I’m not relaxed but love your tips.👍🏽

I've shared this video with myself so I can watch it over and over again. Great tips
So sweet of you to say, Janice! Thank you🙏🏾✨
Excellent advice as usual my sister!! 👏🏾
The tip of adding the oils to the deep conditioner has been a huge game changer for me ❤️. Thank you! 😊
Awesome tips!!!❤️
God bless you abundantly for always sharing and helping because following your advice has made my relaxed hair REALLY THRIVE!!!❤️🙏🏽
No more dryness and breakage.

How do you do this? Please explain.
Hi Lauren, I have a video on how I do my black tea rinses. Check it out!
These are great tips sis!
Dusting in between my trims has helped my hair so much 💕
Thanks Alexis💕 dusting is everything!
Please ,what is dusting ? I wish to learn
@@aijiac100 it’s cutting off the very ends of your hair to prevent split ends. Like less than 1/2 an inch
I literally have the exact same issues!
Coconut oil is the best. I use Shea Butter also. Alphogee Protein treatment is a must for me.
Thank you so much for this video!! You really over some key points! I hope to follow these steps soon , trying to take better care of my hair this year
I love your videos😭❤❤
I love hearing all things hair from you😩
My stylist always put relaxer on my relaxed hair I am dealing with breakages since November now...I can see how thin the over-relaxed hair are they were high porosity now they are low porosity the breakages continue..I keep taking care of them myself.everytimes I keep telling myself I can fixed this, I can do it those words help to keep me from cutting everything off again,it took me so long to grow them back...I even have nightmares.the last time I went to her to relaxed my hair I think she did cause breakages on my hair on purpose because I stopped going to wash my hair at her salon..when I wash my hair on my own I hv no itchy scalp and I am more careful on putting the rollers....it sucks that I can't relax my hair on my own.
Right?!!! Genes play a huge roll and the fullness/thickness really begins to show once your hair is healthy. Thanks for watching hun💕

Hey sis. Welcome💕 Will do.
You always have such good advice. I stopped self relaxing, just because I cannot see the back and I always over over process the back. I love Design Essentials for my relaxer and all of their products on relaxer day. I will definitely apply their pre relaxer protectant before I get to the salon. Hey Val! Yet another informative video. I appreciate the knowledge you drop. It is very helpful and has helped tremendously in my hair care journey.
You just brought to my attention that I’ve been relaxing my hair wrong. Thank you. I’m so happy that I watched this video!
Your channel has been so helpful for my relaxed hair journey. I'm definitely gonna be trying the oil/grease/conditioner before I go back to the salon for prevent runoff damage
That’s right sis👏🏾 prevention is everything!
Less aggravating has truly been helpful for me. A good hair conditioner works great too. Thank you for the info.
Val your hair is looking gorgeous 😍 as always. Very healthy. Love it.
Awww thank you so much, Cas😘🙏🏾

This video is awesome.
Once in a while I used to prepoo with coconut 🥥 oil. A week and a half ago I moderately applied coconut oil and I did not wash it out for 2 days. My hair felt dry thick but I kept up with my routine
The dryness disappeared but the thickness is amazing.
I swear by regular trims. Trim gets rid of the unhealthy ends so that we can retain thickness and length..

People don’t know this . But coconut oil is a protein . That’s why it can leaves your hair hard at times. Coconut oil should be only applied to the scalp .unless you need a protein treatment.
I thought it had 0g of protein...
FYI - there is no protein in coconut oil. (If you don't believe me, check the nutrition facts label). It just penetrates & acts like protein.
This video was EXTREMELY HELPFUL!! Thank you soooo much! I just subscribed 🙂🙂🙂
Awww so happy to help. Welcome to the fam, sis💕
Congrats on relaxing again sis!💕What made you decide?
@@HairliciousInc My scalp is extremely tender and the coily texture is too painful. I dread dealing with it.
So excited to see this video from you! I am proud to announce that I decided to self relaxed. I followed your videos step by step- no burning, no shedding!!! OMG wash day is going to be a breeze lol
I opted for a lye relaxer, the one I don’t have to mix. Question- whenever you’re doing touch ups, do you save the remaining relaxer since you won’t use the entire tub? If so, how do you preserve it?
Congratulations 🎊 I self relax too! Hairlicious’ steps are definitely holy grail steps🧚🏾♀️
This was the exact question that popped up in my head this week while using the last bit of my no-lye relaxer. How to preserve the rest of the tub of the lye relaxer if I decide to make the switch
Congrats hun!! Yes, I don’t use the entire tub. I only scoop out what I need for my touch up and discard any remaining amounts.
@@HairliciousInc nodding. Makes perfect sense🙈😊
@@HairliciousInc what if the tub is so huge like there’s ten relaxers remaining? Usually those professional container?
@@butterfly9274 just take out the amount you need for the relaxer in a bowl and seal back the container. Whatever is left over in the bowl after you finish the application you would discard

It's my day to shampoo and maintain my hair. I like to get a little inspiration as I go about my regiment. Thank you 😊
You are so eloquent and motivating ☺️
That grease hack sounds golden
It really is!!
Thanks about the tip of using a regular relaxer instead of super strength for those who want a little bit of texture and thicknes
Yesss!! It really helps to add thickness to the hair. Less processing = more volume = more fullness to the hair. You're so welcome! Thanks for watching💕
So true! My hair is will always be thin, relaxed or natural
Tell me about it. We thin- hair girls really suffer and people don't understand that we were born this way. No nutrient problems or diseases just genetics!

Thank you great tips I just relaxed my hair today after year's of being natural I will incorporate rice water every week on wash day
Hi Val, I experienced some hair loss with my last at home relaxer a week ago.

Awww thanks, Shay💕 I appreciate all of your support!!
Hi thanks for your consistency in given us hair care tips, please what your hair porosity?
