I have never seen end bunk rain flys being available before. My center pole has a bend that pushes the top of the end bunk cover up enough that there is no issue with needing a rain fly. I wouldnt mind having a reflective rain fly over the ends to make it cooler in the summer. Being we camp in Northern Michigan mostly, I am more interested in insulation to retain more heat in the end bunks. I see people putting reflective bubble wrap in between the screen and the side panes on the bunks and in the windows. I can see where this would also help keep the camper cooler with an air conditioner. I am thinking the rain fly is more popular in the UK. I havent seen anyone using those since I have owned 3 popup campers.
We have the fly's in Australia to make an air gap to keep the camper cooler in summer and the canvas dry in winter for easier pack up nad to stop condensation.
Yes, very popular here both for both cooling and condensation control in winter months. Also great for packing away in the rain. In saying that they are not reflective flies. We had a tropical roof on our old camper which was the light reflective type. Worked well but not water resistant and not recommended for high wind or rain. The ones used on these campers really are great. With the modification to the poles it works even better. We camped last weekend in high wind (see the Hat Head eposide) and the system worked flawlessly as usual.
Thanks for this video. I have what would appear to be the same model Jayco Swan Campervan and wasn't aware that this kit existed. This video was very informative. I also liked you video of the cupboard mods. I now plan to follow your lead in both of these mods. On a completely separate topic but related to the Swan, have you had any trouble related to the lift mechanism of the Swan. I have had my cables fail on me twice already and have noticed that in production of the van that there was a misalignment of the square tube cable guides such that the lifting cables were rubbing on the edge of tubes causing premature failures of the cables. If this is something that you or any of your subscribers are aware of and/or have experienced I would be very interested in any feedback.
Hi Lyle, apologies for the late response. We haven't had any issues with the lifting cables on ours yet (touch wood). One thing we have started to do is stop a few times when lifting to check its going up ok and gently lift the support poles where required. If it ever feels like its binding I stop straight away. Hopefully a few adjustments and the cables will move a lot more freely.
Hi Brandon, late reply sorry. With the flies we did it the other day somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes. The once you have done the flies a few times its literally another 2 minutes or per end to get them set.
Hi Ray no I don't actually as I did ours a few years ago however that's a great idea. I might even do that on the Coromal we have at the moment. Its a cheap and pretty handy mod to do.
Good question, the fly's are primarily to protect the canvas. We always put out if it's raining. They also make it a lot easier to pack down when it's raining as you can slide in without water getting in everything. In hot weather they also shade and cool the bed ends. A lot will simply roll out and lay on the bed ends if camping around trees etc as sap and the like it a lot easier to clean off the vinyl material than the canvas. Finally they do help in the mornings by shading and keeping it a bit darker inside. They are not a necessity but a very handy addition that most opt for when buying these campers 👍
If you have an older van you will need the bracket which accepts the rafter/centre pole. It gets a fixed onto the roof below the bed fly. TH-cam won't let me link... but search 'awning mounting bracket jayco camper' and the bracket should pop up. Adam from Caravanmods.com.au will help you out. Give him a call 👍
How old is your camper? Most you need to add the middle or ridge rafter pole. You can buy the brackets and piles from places like Caravanmods. Have a talk to Adam, he customises kits for earlier models 👍

Great video can I ask why do the bed fly conversion ? I’m very new and have a second hand jayco eagle but unsure why we do this?
