@@bridgetthonnold1289 Honestly I highly doubt it, I mean, SEGA is focusing on SonAmy and I don't think they're going to change their mind like that out of nowhere. Even that, although they are focusing on the SonAmy, is not strongly enough to say that they are something, or even to call them canon. They're these kinds of trapdoors for fans to fall through and they're this dynamic of "will they be something or won't they be something?". SonAmy and perhaps Knuoxge are the most obvious and whose possibilities exist but they will not make it canon because I think it is not so necessary to do so. I'm a SonAmy stan but I recognize that this is the situation, something this couple is very good at is selling, especially Valentine's Day things, believe it or not, that is good extra money for SEGA.
The thing is? We have a amazingly written Amy Rose last year people ALSO tend to forget about, Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog, thats the modern depiction of Amy we should be looking at and going "this, look at this more of this"

I personally have had a huge turnaround in the character. I really like the way she’s written in IDW honestly. She still likes Sonic which like it or not is a core part of her character AND she has her own character traits. I think SA1 really nailed her though.

I doubt that people hate Amy THAT much, (at least most of), but I don't think that Amy's personality was "annoying" on purpose, I think that sonic team wanted it to be ✨peak comedy✨. And as for now I'll go with frontiers Amy's character development to see where it's going in the future.

I went to this video, because I do not know if I believe she is hated. I think she was a popular character, and she might be still popular. I do not hate her. There are some characters I like her better than.
The part where he was discussing how to save Amy's character and said that she should be a defender of nature has actually happened, though it was in a television show, and not a game. Her character has motivation (finally), and I really love it!! I know there are people that say Sonic Prime is bad, but personally I think it did a really good job with the characterization throughout the show. I recommend giving it a watch!

I like Amy's character in Sonic Dream Team. She is shown to be actively participating during the team-planning. She was also a big sister figure to Cream. The characters are going in the right direction.

The defender of nature part actually reminded me of Thorn from Prime since her entire motive was to protect the jungle from other people taking resources and destroying stuff from it although then she realized that she not only trap everyone from getting food but also trap everyone inside the jungle to not have any freedom just like with Birdie

Most people seem to only remember her for "The Slap" and not much else. She was completely butchered in the comics and was nothing like how she was portrayed in SatAM. She served as a more stern straight-man to contrast Sonic but people have mischaracterized this as her being bossy or a kill-joy even though she did have a playful side such as her banter with Sonic or how she would make funny voices while reading bedtime stories to Tails. The funny thing is that most of the people who hold "The Slap" against Sally are, ironically, Amy fans. Yet, they turn around to defend Amy by saying "You can't let a few badly written scenes define an entire character!" I'm just saying that Amy isn't the only character suffering from a double standard.

They did a great job in Sonic Prime. She barely even hints that she loves Sonic and she loves nature, and a whole counterpart of her fights EVERYONE to defend the nature.

I think Amy, early Amy at least, is sort of a satirical take on the damsel in distress trope, likely in response to Princess Peach. The fact that her classic design is basically just a Pink Sonic supports that imo. In her first appearance in Sonic CD, she is the typical damsel in distress character, but the idea of her being a complete fangirl over her rescuer is kind of funny and gives her a character beyond just being the girl for the main character to save. In Adventure, this satire kind of continues. She is still the obsessed fangirl and she gets kidnapped again, looking to be saved by Sonic. But they do update Amy's look to be more unique, give her a character arc where she figures out that she needs to be independent, let her get out of the jail without needing the help of Sonic and have her help Gamma with his character arc. In Sonic Adventure 2, she spends most of the story kind of being the annoying tagalong character who's just kind of there for no reason. She doesn't do any stages like the other heroes. She keeps getting left behind and complaining about getting left behind. And she gets kidnapped again by Eggman because she gets left by herself on the space colony. But, she has her moments, like when she's the one who saves Sonic when he's behind bars at the start of the game. While Amy may still be kind of annoying in SA2, I personally don't find her whole complaining about being left behind to be funny, she still has her moments to shine. And that is no more clear when she gets Shadow to realise the error of his ways, just like she did with Gamma, but this time resulting in the world being saved. The Adventure games really tell a story about how a normal person can have such a big effect. Her kindness and empathy being enough to save the world or to help others is a great thing. And that's partially why I don't like how Amy is just a Sonic clone in modern games where she is playable. She should be slow, she's not Sonic. Adventure nails how Amy should play. She should be unique, pretty underpowered compared to the other heroes but be able to have an effect on the story and other characters mostly through her defining character traits Sonic Heroes Amy is just a disaster. Her only character trait and motivation is to chase Sonic. She literally tries beating him into marrying her... Like, in SA2, she asked Sonic if he would marry her if she told him where Shadow was but that was played off as just a quick joke in that game and she let's him of the jail anyway. But the Heroes version of Amy wouldn't let Sonic out of the cell if he didn't agree to marry her. Could they not have Amy do anything besides running after Sonic in Heroes/06? Like, she's literally just stalking him at that point. I think her gaeplay is ok in Sonic Heroes, while she is a speed character which is weird, she is slower than Sonic and the other speed characters and lacks abilities like the slide kick, roll, triangle jump and light dash while having her own hammer swinging move when holding the jump button. Amy in 06 is probably a more realistic version of how her character should play but they take all the fun out of her gameplay that was possible in the Adventure games or Heroes

But this logic Cream and Big are also just as complicit, because they are the characters whose personality are they are against fighting and such, yet don't object to fighting Team Sonic, despite Cream also asking the question of their missing friends. Rouge was worse than Amy because her reason for starting a fight with Chaotix was more petty and out of character. Rather than just being a joke that was done out of poor context, Rouge is being serious in that she just sees three random guys minding their own business, assumes they are out for her "treasure" then has herself and her teammates JUMP them out of furious paranoia, which is worse because she's accusing people of something they didn't do then forces an unnecessary scuffle. It also doesn't help that afterwards she just assumes they are up to no good! Even in Sonic vs Dark, Sonic just kind of acts like an asshole toward Shadow when the last time they saw him he presumably died! Heroes Amy isn't bad, people just take that scene FAR too seriously from the intention, that's more of an issue of people taking something the game doesn't take seriously, serious, not the game itself being serious or displaying it outright. Especially when you consider Battle and Free Riders are just worse versions of Heroes Amy and to say Heroes is worse is just dishonest.

I find the fanbases reaction to Amy in that game to be SOOO overcriticized, like people take her actions in that game WAY to seriously, when it is blown up too seriously from the actual intention. Every time I see a video analysis or video that talks about Amy, they always bring up Heroes like it "ruined her character" or that it started her decline, when I'm always asking myself is she really that bad? When the only thing people too is overreact to ONE scene and take it too literally when it's not the intent of the scene. Like I understanding from the outset that it looks as if Amy is wanting to "force" Sonic into marriage by fighting him, but that isn't even what the scene is saying, especially when it reads a bit differently in Japanese. Where she says "Today I'll get you to marry me" which implies that she wants to win his heart by proving her strength. That's not "assault" or force, even in English the scene is the same, if translated a bit poorly. Granted it does seem odd to transition into a boss fight, but like so did the Adventure games with a couple exceptions. As for Amy being more "extreme about it" like yeah, its more extreme, but I see it as her channeling her confidence compared to the Adventure games into her love for Sonic, Amy was a character who is shown to be extreme with her emotions, so it does make sense to channel her confidence into her love for Sonic, its just that her extreme emotions always pushed Sonic away, even when she tried to prove something. 8:45 I ABSOLUTELY disagree with this take for 2 reasons. 1. The tarot cards are the reason why Amy meets up with Sonic and is added to the roster in the first place. And 2. The tarot cards could be an implication that Amy may has foresight/mystical abilities. She was able to go invisible in Sonic 06, her cards are being used even more in the IDW comics and her cards were even used as weapons/cursing cards (in one game I don’t remember which one) I believe that a really cool route they can take with her character is for her to become a powerful sorceress/oracle. The tarot cards can be a “Thor” situation where her actual powers comes from herself but the cards are a means to use her powers in a more controlled way.

Congrats on sega for making the most controversial female lead in a franchise I’ve ever seen , they had a good thing with her going in they just decided to write as a joke whenever they felt like with heroes (2003) ever since then she’s been the most inconsistent character in the franchise, and now they stripped so much of her to make people like her, and it has either worked or people just still call her annoying and “a stalker” 😭

A video I recently saw actually made a really cool analysis of Amy's dynamic with sonic that has been lost. According to him Aonic is not naturally heroic, he's adventure loving and freedom chasing. He does what he wants to. Amy on the other hand is naturally heroic and just so happens to see the good around her. With her help she sometimes influences Sonic himself to be more heroic when what he wants to so isn't necessarily ie. Destroying omega. I thought it was super cool to see someone break down her character in a way that feels more genuine and doesn't just put her skin on a different character. Also in that way she's actually really helpful.
I HATED Amy during the Sonic X Era. Not only was she annoying AF, but she got more screen time than awesome characters like Shadow and Knuckles! She's a staple purely because she was the first female character in the franchise, and the SonAmy nonsense among the fandom was just ridiculous because Sonic would never want to settle down. I like her a lot better in recent years though. And she's definitely a better female protagonist than Princess Peach.

I love both adventure amy and idw amy, so i would simply have traits from both Amy has matured, she still likes sonic, but she realizes she cant follow him everywere, she has to be her own person But just like in the adventures she should still be someone compassionate, able to see the good in everyone while also being protective of her friends and never letting them down She would also have that mystic vibe to her, she has always been using magic, her fortune cards were weaponized in chronicles, her abilities in battle with the tornados and her healing ability, those details are really good and i wish they keep coming

Wow great minds do think alike. I've thought of the same exact thing about Amy & her special connection with the animals being used in a more creative & unique way. Amy should have a special ability that allows her to use the animals she befriends or raises for combat purposes. Maybe add some character traits from her Sonic Prime variant, Black Rose. Black Rose loves nature. She, along with her giant birdie friend/mount, will do anything to protect nature, the animals, & her home. Those traits would fit in perfectly with Amy Rose's developing character. Also, for her own unique super form, she should have the floating golden flickies instead of Tails due to her animal connection. While Tails should instead turn into a 9 tailed Kitsune, which is what Tails is based on in the first place.
I like the change of Amy Rose since Sonic Boom and I like how some of her Boom personality now plays in Sonic OG. My problem is how it was a complete 180 rather than a gradual shift in each game.

Matt coming back to be WRONG about heroes yet again, Amy was great in that game, the only thing she did was have a bad line because they wanted a boss fight, and chase Sonic at the end because fun. He has some of the best in game lines in the whole game, in 06 when she says she'd chose Sonic over the world, what she was saying is that she believes Sonic would never do anything to do anything to harm the world, she puts trust in him. what you said about Amy is pure facts, from CD to Sonic Adventure 2 she was a great character and all her problems started after those games , Sega thinks they have "fixed" her but now she is boring , people say sonic boom or IDW comics is a good characterization of Amy but i disagree , boom Amy is kinda cringe and IDW is just a generic nice person type of character , i like the Amy from Adventure duology but the reason that Amy Rose is one of my favorite sonic characters is because of Fleetway Comics and the Ian Flynn era of Archie comics because they managed to make a perfect balance between different characteristics for Amy rose : she is a kind and compassionate person that always gives a chance to everyone ( even bad guys ) but the moment she realizes she is dealing with a bad person who enjoys being evil and doesnt want to change ... thats when we see the warrior side of her , she would fight anyone who would take peoples freedom away, she is strong but not OP , and she somehow manages to be both girlish and badass at the same time ( usually when female characters are girlish they tend to be a damsel in distress or when they are a damsel of war they are tomboys and sometimes act even manlier that the male characters but that is not the case with Amy Rose ) , and she is full of energy , just the way she talks and acts makes me smile ( not in a romantic way i swear 😅 ) , and she has a little bit of an anger issues ( but only a little bit so instead of making problems it gives her more personality ) and also she loves sonic but she doesnt let her love be her only characterization and she still is a good ( if not better ) character when sonic is not around

I thought Amy's characterizion was fine in Frontiers but i can see why it confused some people and honestly i like the idea of make Amy to be the voice of reason and to be outspoken of peace if there's conflict and that she could carry her life now as to care for nature and aniamls more.then ever. Classic Era: Good. Just trying to figure out where to take her in regards to directions after Sonic CD. Modern Amy (2000s): Likeable and has a new updated design. The roots of what's to come do start to show overtime, especially around Sonic Heroes. Modern Amy (2010s): Quite unlikeable in some games, but has a few standout moments too. Otherwise, this was the era that screwed over her characterisation the most. Amy Rose (2020s): a lot better handled and feels like she's returning to her old self. She's matured a lot as well and is starting to let go of her overinfatuation of Sonic. Sonic Boom: One of my favourite interpretations. IDW Amy: Likeable and is characterised well. Archie Amy: Likeable and respectful of Sonic's boundaries. Shows a level of maturity that is overshadowed a lot of the time. Fleetway Amy: Well-utilised and likeable. X Amy: NO. Prime Amys: Thorn Rose was the best variant. Black Rose was likeable and had a lot of good moments. Rusty Rose was well-utilised too. Amy Rose herself also felt matured in the series.
Honestly it is a pretty smart move to have Amy be a protector of nature. Black Knight n hell Prime have different versions of Amy that relates to nature. Amy taking the role of Lady of the Lake while Thorn whole part of protecting nature. Amy healing animals n plants along with helping other new life after Eggman's bs would be interesting for her. Plus too add on to this, since Amy mentioned she will meet up with Cream n 😑Sticks, have both of them team and travel the world to protect/heal nature after what Eggman have done to it. Plus to add a bonus, Sonic Team should bring in Trip n have her help out Amy since Amy was the first to helpful to Trip in Superstars and Trip also cherish nature too. Yes Trip is the defender of her home, but really what's stopping Sega/Sonic Team from letting a guardian step out of their post? I mean Knuxs is the guardian of the master emerald yet Sonic Team doesn't have a problem of letting him step out of Angel island back in the mid 2000s and now in Frontiers ending, Knuxs wants to have a solo adventure for a change. Eggman doesn't have any motives to check out the North star anymore since the black dragon was useless so Trip really got nothing to worry about.
I didn’t understand Amy at first when I was little. Now that I’m older, I get her character. When it comes to helping her friends, confront them sometimes, and reason with others, Amy willingly takes a stand to do all of that for them because she wants to

The whole premise of heroes is that it was trying to get away from the serious grandiose tone and narrative. Heroes didn't have amy caught in a serious anime plot like in sa2 nor was she being chased by a scary robot like in sa1. It's just fine chocola and froggy and that's it. Amy can do whatever she wants in heroes. She's pretty much the same as the last two games. I don't get why people think of Amy as psycho fangirl. Fangirl sure, but psycho is just an exaggerated paranoia. I know what a psycho girl looks like and amy just isn't it.
To be honest, I’m not too sure what more they could’ve really done with Amy in Frontiers if they wanted to go with the “everyone going their own way” without retreading her adventure arc of finding her independence. It’s a bit of a bummer they did it with Tails but after Forces, I think Tails having a bit of a quarter life crisis, feeling like he should have had himself worked out by now and feeling ashamed about being inconsistent was warranted and actually kinda relatable, at least for me as I often feel that way myself. I guess they could write something similar for Amy but instead of being depressed about her situation like Tails was (to a degree) she could maybe just be more … contemplative about what she really wants in her life. I dunno, I’m just spit balling here but who knows; maybe Ian Flynn (if he’s on the writing team for the next game) has ideas on where to take her character if given the chance to put more focus on her
Flynn can't write a good Amy even if he were stuck in The Dark Place, she was a Sally expy during the Metal Virus arc and that's it. I think what I could've done was place focus on her insecurities, of feeling that she has to be the emotional anchor to the point she can't have a shoulder to cry to, of not feeling good enough and be stuck on situations where she has to be saved, of feeling like her cheery persona is a facade to not reveal ugly aspects of her inner self.
@@dragondelsur5156 to be fair, there was a lot going on in that arc with multiple characters so naturally some would have received less focus. Besides, Amy being a “Sally expy” as you put it is probably the best Flynn and the other IDW writers could do under the mandates. Far as I know they’ve been less strict nowadays but at the time, they likely would’ve been in full effect. Not saying Amy should be or stay like that but I’m sure Flynn is plenty capable if given the chance. Saying that, I do like your idea. Evan Stanley gets Amy better than Flynn, and all it took was one issue for her to be back at being the character I love. The ugly reality is that Flynn is no Amy fan as much as the people that praise his writing sell it, she's not a priority to him, she's just a middle point until reaching the characters he actually wants to write for.

I feel it was an inherent mistake to frame it around "being away from Sonic" as "long time no see" is such a common phrase in this franchise because Sonic is away from his friends for long stretches of time on the regular. What for Amy perhaps could have worked would build on the fact that she is like the one self made hero with every power she has including her cards being things she gained through hard training and constant practicing. So have her ask the question if all of her efforts were even worth it when in the end she still needs Sonic to save her both here and in Forces before.
Honestly, I think she had it good in Frontiers. Her characterization was much stronger from the get-go, and her gameplay in The Final Horizon was the only one that didn't need any adjustments. At worst, it's a step in the right direction for her character.

I think Amy needs more of her original cheery attitude, and a bit more of a dramatic personality similar to the funny moments in Sonic X. Still a voice of reason and very caring to others, but willing to go apeshit when pushed to the limit or when someone is threatening her / other's happiness. Her being too mature is boring, but being too chaotic or obsessive is annoying. It's good to find a balance between these two aspects of Amy's character. People might see her as a stereotypical girl, but I don't think there's anything wrong with Amy being feminine. As long as that's not all she is.
I will never understand the hate for Heroes Amy, she is completely inline with her Adventure personality. I feel like people's media literacy evaporates whenever Amy enters a scene. The entire hate for heroes Amy is based on one scene were Amy apparently threatens Sonic or something? Do people seriously think Amy would beat Sonic up and force him to marry her? You remember that goat character from Hoodwinked? That’s my take on Amy. She expresses her feelings for Sonic through music and song, the one consistently good aspect in the entire sonic series. She’s a banjo troubadour, and also has a huge gluttonous appetite, so her and Sonic have this Shaggy Scooby Doo dynamic where Amy just straight up steals Sonic’s food, which also ties into her throwaway trait where she wanted to open a cafe, and practice cooking. Also, why not emphasize Amy’s love of soft serve ice cream in addition to her tarot cards? Have her and Sonic go onto long conversations about their favorite food establishments, favorite dishes, flavors, etc. Let’s bring back Amy’s interest in cooking and food, and have her be a bit of a big eater in addition to being a chef and a banjo player?

No matter how much hate people have given Amy in the past. No matter how much hate people still give Amy nowadays. Amy Rose is still and always will be my Favorite Sonic Character. I like and love her for who she is as a character. She is very cute, sweet, positive, caring, heroic, and very funny at times. I admire Amy for all of the great things that she has done in the past. Like helping Gamma see the good in himself, helping Shadow remember Maria's promise, and helping Cream save Chocola, plus helping Big save Froggy. Amy never gives up on her goals, and she is always positive. And those are great things to have. Amy is such an underrated and under appreciated character. It's unfortunate that she is hated more than liked. But regardless, I will always like and respect Amy for who she is. And Amy will always be my Favorite Sonic Character. ❤
Besides teriot cards, Amy had been shown to use real magic multiple times in the series though Sega kept it as Gags and subtle, never doing much for the plot.
If you notice Amy glowing pink, that is not a animation gag, that is Amy’s magic aura and people seem to not notice, when she uses magic in Sonic x for example, Sega implies the humans see it happening!

I went from liking Amy to kind of hating her. The same way certain people feel about me (Classic Sonic) is exactly how I feel about Amy. I genuinely don’t see a reason for her to exist anymore. I don’t find her to be an interesting character. She feels too similar to Sonic and Tails. She has the empathy of Sonic and the admiration for Sonic of Tails. Nowadays, she just feels like a basic girl character, and it’s only decreasing my interest in her. I don’t find her relationship with Sonic interesting at all. Anyone can say no to a girl, so why is it only interesting when Sonic does it? I was hoping that this video would finally explain why people actually like her, but I still don’t really understand why.

Personally, I feel that Amys character in Frontiers was well done. She felt more mature than her previous versions who always kept trying to get Sonic to love her. Obviously he does, but they focused her more into the lore or Kronos Island and how much she cares for others. Also, Thorn from Sonic Prime pretty much solved the nature defender issue since she literally isolated her friends to protect the forest that was getting exploited from them. I do wish she had a bit more screentime though...
I think the whole "protector of nature" angle might be where they are taking Amy anyway, and admitedly this is mainly cause of Sonic Prime. Which I understand is a touchy subject when it comes to characteriation but here me out. Easilly the most plot relevant version of Amy in that show was Thorn Rose, who acts as a guardian of nature in the show. Also i'd like to point out that in Frontiers, Sonic suggest leaving the coco because he wants to prioritise saving Amy and she tells him off for trying to leave someone in need behind, so i'd say some of Adventure personality is coming back in Frontiers if not as blatantly as the rest. My last thing is that I have no personal issue with them bringing back her tarot cards, let the girl have her hobbies. Gives a bit more flavour to make the character more interesting. I mean, there always be someone that will hate a character. I think Sally is hated that much mostly because she's the embodiment of American Sonic ideas and game fantards won't accept anything from spin-offs to get in even if it's well-written. I recommend using the original japanese stories of the sonic games and not english ones i understand you maybe dont know japanese and that is why you dont use them but windii has translated lot of the japanese cutscenes. (unfortunately most of her videos were deleted but there are some repost i have made a playlist of most of the reposts.) but other than that good video. There are also a few retranslated mods you can use. And the voice acting is just way better.
Amy wasn't amazing in SA1 and 2, but she was fine. Just a slightly pushy girl who wants to help and sometimes does, but has much to learn. Then Heroes came and Sonic Team decided she either has to be crazy or largely irrelevant for some reason, which stretched all the way until around Lost World(Yeah, she is the one character who started her road to being un-broken in the 2010s, it's genuinely a shocker) when she suddenly made a turn out of nowhere towards being more reasonable while staying somewhat relevant towards the narrative's focus and a few years later, here we are. Current Amy is fine, it's an upgrade over what we had before, but it kinda feels dry and flavorless? It may just be that her character was assassinated hard enough for almost a decade to the point where no progression can feel particularly "natural" and it is hard to get excited over her presence at all. I guess I am one of the few people who actually liked what they did with her in Frontiers mainstory(I genuinely don't even remember them doing anything with her writingwise in Final Horizon...which is ironic, considering she is actually playable there), so that's something. Also, can we talk about how people push her entire assassination onto Maekawa even tho that does not make much sense? Sure, she is more passive and helpless in SA2 than she was in SA1 so you can give some flak to him as a writer there I guess, but like...she was still entirely fine overall in that game. And she fell into the exact same issue of "either be crazy or irrelevant" in games he didn't write at all and even other media. Just because he wrote Heroes(under strict mandates because they only allowed him proper creative freedom in Team Dark's story...which is the best part of the game btw, lmao) does not mean he is the spark that burnt down the forest, that character direction was clearly pushed from above. 1:29 Wow, what a great critisism the community has(not, it's dumb). Though for the sake of the lolz, I'll comment that I actually was a shipper until I realized that Heroes onward kinda negates any legit potential for anything to happen.(If anything, Black Knight teasing the possibility twice is kinda crazy given the circumstances. But then again, it is Black Knight, the game that's just wrong about nearly everything outside Sonic's character, but maybe even that considering the story is so ducttaped together and gassing up Sonic beyond what is reasonable and also never properly referenced again even when it should be...to the point where many people genuinely agree with Amy that he made it up, which would be horrendously OOC for him. Yeah, let's just forget this game)
I would argue Amy was far more varied during the mid 2000's Heroes was actually mostly fine the real problem was the presentation, IN game dialogue Amy greatly changes the look of her cut-scene dialog. Shadow she was like quite a few character just there to give you a mission (at least her mission in saving Cream was very much related to her character with Cream being her Tails) Riders she is actually pretty okay I think. She has her own interest and cares for others. And the most extent of her love is to actively annoy Sonic. 06 is very mixed between the "Sonic>World" line (tho to be fair Silver, Rouge and Elise bring the exact same lines so its not juts her) and her actually showing genuin care for Elise emotions and trying to make her mistake up to Silver which also pushes both of there character arcs further. In rivals and Unleashed is she kind of just filler Only the unholy trifecta or Rush, Battle and Free Riders have Amy go fully insane over Sonic. I would also disagree that nothing could feel natural for Amy at these state as just about everyone seems to be happy with her writing in "The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog" And what is your problem with Black Knight?
@@rynobehnke8289 I generally do not mention Shadow for Amy because she is barely in the game and there is nothing much to talk about, as she only appears in like 2 cutscenes, one stage and one bossfight. I guess she can be considered as largely irrelevant in that game, though that's actually fine because that game is basically an "anything goes"-narrative. There is just nothing outstandingly good nor bad. And my issue with Black Knight is that the story basically falls apart if you look at it funny, yet it is praised like the second coming of sliced bread interms of story. Like, an example is that Merlina's plan only makes sense due to people writing fanfiction into the public contiousness. The game never explains what that is all about and all it DOES provide us with makes it seem like she is just going to destroy the kingdom, not preserve it. And I can go on and on. The plot has a onesided illusion of working and nothing more. There is also a personal component I am not entirely proud of, in that even interms of character writing where the game is genuinely good(at least if we don't go with "Sonic made it up to get out of the date", which we have more reason to believe at this point), people take it to the point where they will trash writing consistent with the good characterization of SA1 and Secret Rings just because "it is not how Sonic acted in Black Knight". And that's just not it chief.
@@lpfan4491 I included Shadow's game to go over just about every game with a story I could think off. I don't quite get your issue with Black Knight at least the parts you have mentioned. Merlina's plan and motivation is rather simple. She (properly using magic like Erazor in Secret Rings) read ahead on the story and learns that Arthurian Legends end in a tragedy. So to prevent that did she get a super powerful magical object her grandfather Merlin created which allows her to bring the entire Kingdom of Camelot into the Underworld were she can freeze the kingdom in place. No one is ever growing older, nothing new is ever build or changed. Everything will last forever just the way is it right now. She does work more with her the boarders of the book than Erazor did who literally just rewrote the text but her plan and motivation aren't that complicated as long as you accept that Magic can do what she says it can. I wouldn't take Amy's side on the whole "did Black Knight happen" argument as we in the very end literally see the title of the book change like it happened in Secret Rings. And I have to ask what are you specially referring towards? Is it about this damn IDW Sonic issue 50 thing again?

The topic came up in the fanbase regarding Sonic's dialogue with Sage in Frontiers mainstory. Him being emotionally elaborate is consistent with SA1 and Secret Rings, but people won't shut up about it sucking because it's not like BK.

I doubt that people hate Amy THAT much, (at least most of), but I don't think that Amy's personality was "annoying" on purpose, I think that sonic team wanted it to be ✨peak comedy✨. And as for now I'll go with frontiers Amy's character development to see where it's going in the future.

Her character has motivation (finally), and I really love it!! I know there are people that say Sonic Prime is bad, but personally I think it did a really good job with the characterization throughout the show. I recommend giving it a watch!

I feel that you could say the same thing about Sally Acorn. Most people seem to only remember her for "The Slap" and not much else. She was completely butchered in the comics and was nothing like how she was portrayed in SatAM. She served as a more stern straight-man to contrast Sonic but people have mischaracterized this as her being bossy or a kill-joy even though she did have a playful side such as her banter with Sonic or how she would make funny voices while reading bedtime stories to Tails.
The funny thing is that most of the people who hold "The Slap" against Sally are, ironically, Amy fans. Yet, they turn around to defend Amy by saying "You can't let a few badly written scenes define an entire character!"
I'm just saying that Amy isn't the only character suffering from a double standard.

Amy never deserved any of this hate, I never hated her, I liked her since day 1.
I think Amy, early Amy at least, is sort of a satirical take on the damsel in distress trope, likely in response to Princess Peach. The fact that her classic design is basically just a Pink Sonic supports that imo. In her first appearance in Sonic CD, she is the typical damsel in distress character, but the idea of her being a complete fangirl over her rescuer is kind of funny and gives her a character beyond just being the girl for the main character to save.
In Adventure, this satire kind of continues. She is still the obsessed fangirl and she gets kidnapped again, looking to be saved by Sonic. But they do update Amy's look to be more unique, give her a character arc where she figures out that she needs to be independent, let her get out of the jail without needing the help of Sonic and have her help Gamma with his character arc.
In Sonic Adventure 2, she spends most of the story kind of being the annoying tagalong character who's just kind of there for no reason. She doesn't do any stages like the other heroes. She keeps getting left behind and complaining about getting left behind. And she gets kidnapped again by Eggman because she gets left by herself on the space colony. But, she has her moments, like when she's the one who saves Sonic when he's behind bars at the start of the game. While Amy may still be kind of annoying in SA2, I personally don't find her whole complaining about being left behind to be funny, she still has her moments to shine. And that is no more clear when she gets Shadow to realise the error of his ways, just like she did with Gamma, but this time resulting in the world being saved. The Adventure games really tell a story about how a normal person can have such a big effect. Her kindness and empathy being enough to save the world or to help others is a great thing. And that's partially why I don't like how Amy is just a Sonic clone in modern games where she is playable. She should be slow, she's not Sonic. Adventure nails how Amy should play. She should be unique, pretty underpowered compared to the other heroes but be able to have an effect on the story and other characters mostly through her defining character traits
Sonic Heroes Amy is just a disaster. Her only character trait and motivation is to chase Sonic. She literally tries beating him into marrying her... Like, in SA2, she asked Sonic if he would marry her if she told him where Shadow was but that was played off as just a quick joke in that game and she let's him of the jail anyway. But the Heroes version of Amy wouldn't let Sonic out of the cell if he didn't agree to marry her. Could they not have Amy do anything besides running after Sonic in Heroes/06? Like, she's literally just stalking him at that point. I think her gaeplay is ok in Sonic Heroes, while she is a speed character which is weird, she is slower than Sonic and the other speed characters and lacks abilities like the slide kick, roll, triangle jump and light dash while having her own hammer swinging move when holding the jump button. Amy in 06 is probably a more realistic version of how her character should play but they take all the fun out of her gameplay that was possible in the Adventure games or Heroes
I think people take Heroes Amy way to seriously, she isn't even that bad when Free Riders exists.

In reality Rose was the ONLY team with motivation for starting their fight, and Amy DOES say that in the boss fight itself, the entire reason they are looking for Sonic was because of the newspaper Amy was reading that showed what looked to be Sonic taking their friends away and it was HER idea to find their friends. Amy just used her love for Sonic as an excuse to start the fight, she wasn't LITERALLY going to submit him to marriage, it was just a poorly dubbed scene that reads a bit differently in Japanese, but within the fight itself Amy asks Team Sonic about their friends and whatnot, yes this could have been communicated better, but that's more of a game issue than a character one, especially since after the Rail levels Amy stops focusing on Sonic once she realizes the Eggman they fought was a fake. Amy's date comment makes sense to the Chaotix because it's an SA1 reference where Amy got tired of dudes hitting on her.
But this logic Cream and Big are also just as complicit, because they are the characters whose personality are they are against fighting and such, yet don't object to fighting Team Sonic, despite Cream also asking the question of their missing friends.
Rouge was worse than Amy because her reason for starting a fight with Chaotix was more petty and out of character. Rather than just being a joke that was done out of poor context, Rouge is being serious in that she just sees three random guys minding their own business, assumes they are out for her "treasure" then has herself and her teammates JUMP them out of furious paranoia, which is worse because she's accusing people of something they didn't do then forces an unnecessary scuffle. It also doesn't help that afterwards she just assumes they are up to no good!
Even in Sonic vs Dark, Sonic just kind of acts like an asshole toward Shadow when the last time they saw him he presumably died!
Heroes Amy isn't bad, people just take that scene FAR too seriously from the intention, that's more of an issue of people taking something the game doesn't take seriously, serious, not the game itself being serious or displaying it outright. Especially when you consider Battle and Free Riders are just worse versions of Heroes Amy and to say Heroes is worse is just dishonest.

I find the fanbases reaction to Amy in that game to be SOOO overcriticized, like people take her actions in that game WAY to seriously, when it is blown up too seriously from the actual intention. Every time I see a video analysis or video that talks about Amy, they always bring up Heroes like it "ruined her character" or that it started her decline, when I'm always asking myself is she really that bad? When the only thing people too is overreact to ONE scene and take it too literally when it's not the intent of the scene. Like I understanding from the outset that it looks as if Amy is wanting to "force" Sonic into marriage by fighting him, but that isn't even what the scene is saying, especially when it reads a bit differently in Japanese. Where she says "Today I'll get you to marry me" which implies that she wants to win his heart by proving her strength. That's not "assault" or force, even in English the scene is the same, if translated a bit poorly. Granted it does seem odd to transition into a boss fight, but like so did the Adventure games with a couple exceptions.
As for Amy being more "extreme about it" like yeah, its more extreme, but I see it as her channeling her confidence compared to the Adventure games into her love for Sonic, Amy was a character who is shown to be extreme with her emotions, so it does make sense to channel her confidence into her love for Sonic, its just that her extreme emotions always pushed Sonic away, even when she tried to prove something. Even later in the story this is directly stated when she tells her team to go after Egg Albatross because "Sonic will be impressed by her".

I ABSOLUTELY disagree with this take for 2 reasons.
1. The tarot cards are the reason why Amy meets up with Sonic and is added to the roster in the first place.
And 2. The tarot cards could be an implication that Amy may has foresight/mystical abilities. She was able to go invisible in Sonic 06, her cards are being used even more in the IDW comics and her cards were even used as weapons/cursing cards (in one game I don’t remember which one)
I believe that a really cool route they can take with her character is for her to become a powerful sorceress/oracle. The tarot cards can be a “Thor” situation where her actual powers comes from herself but the cards are a means to use her powers in a more controlled way.

Congrats on sega for making the most controversial female lead in a franchise I’ve ever seen , they had a good thing with her going in they just decided to write as a joke whenever they felt like with heroes (2003) ever since then she’s been the most inconsistent character in the franchise, and now they stripped so much of her to make people like her, and it has either worked or people just still call her annoying and “a stalker” 😭

A video I recently saw actually made a really cool analysis of Amy's dynamic with sonic that has been lost. According to him Aonic is not naturally heroic, he's adventure loving and freedom chasing. He does what he wants to. Amy on the other hand is naturally heroic and just so happens to see the good around her. With her help she sometimes influences Sonic himself to be more heroic when what he wants to so isn't necessarily ie. Destroying omega.
I thought it was super cool to see someone break down her character in a way that feels more genuine and doesn't just put her skin on a different character. Also in that way she's actually really helpful.

Wow great minds do think alike. I've thought of the same exact thing about Amy & her special connection with the animals being used in a more creative & unique way. Amy should have a special ability that allows her to use the animals she befriends or raises for combat purposes. Maybe add some character traits from her Sonic Prime variant, Black Rose. Black Rose loves nature. She, along with her giant birdie friend/mount, will do anything to protect nature, the animals, & her home. Those traits would fit in perfectly with Amy Rose's developing character. Also, for her own unique super form, she should have the floating golden flickies instead of Tails due to her animal connection. While Tails should instead turn into a 9 tailed Kitsune, which is what Tails is based on in the first place.

Matt coming back to be WRONG about heroes yet again, Amy was great in that game, the only thing she did was have a bad line because they wanted a boss fight, and chase Sonic at the end because fun. He has some of the best in game lines in the whole game, in 06 when she says she'd chose Sonic over the world, what she was saying is that she believes Sonic would never do anything to do anything to harm the world, she puts trust in him. Amy didn't change, she just was put out of focus

Classic Era: Good. Just trying to figure out where to take her in regards to directions after Sonic CD.
Modern Amy (2000s): Likeable and has a new updated design. The roots of what's to come do start to show overtime, especially around Sonic Heroes.
Modern Amy (2010s): Quite unlikeable in some games, but has a few standout moments too. Otherwise, this was the era that screwed over her characterisation the most.
Amy Rose (2020s): a lot better handled and feels like she's returning to her old self. She's matured a lot as well and is starting to let go of her overinfatuation of Sonic.
Sonic Boom: One of my favourite interpretations.
IDW Amy: Likeable and is characterised well.
Archie Amy: Likeable and respectful of Sonic's boundaries. Shows a level of maturity that is overshadowed a lot of the time.
Fleetway Amy: Well-utilised and likeable.

Prime Amys: Thorn Rose was the best variant. Black Rose was likeable and had a lot of good moments. Rusty Rose was well-utilised too. Amy Rose herself also felt matured in the series.

Honestly it is a pretty smart move to have Amy be a protector of nature. Black Knight n hell Prime have different versions of Amy that relates to nature. Amy taking the role of Lady of the Lake while Thorn whole part of protecting nature. Amy healing animals n plants along with helping other new life after Eggman's bs would be interesting for her. Plus too add on to this, since Amy mentioned she will meet up with Cream n 😑Sticks, have both of them team and travel the world to protect/heal nature after what Eggman have done to it. Plus to add a bonus, Sonic Team should bring in Trip n have her help out Amy since Amy was the first to helpful to Trip in Superstars and Trip also cherish nature too. Yes Trip is the defender of her home, but really what's stopping Sega/Sonic Team from letting a guardian step out of their post? I mean Knuxs is the guardian of the master emerald yet Sonic Team doesn't have a problem of letting him step out of Angel island back in the mid 2000s and now in Frontiers ending, Knuxs wants to have a solo adventure for a change. Eggman doesn't have any motives to check out the North star anymore since the black dragon was useless so Trip really got nothing to worry about.

The whole premise of heroes is that it was trying to get away from the serious grandiose tone and narrative. Heroes didn't have amy caught in a serious anime plot like in sa2 nor was she being chased by a scary robot like in sa1. It's just fine chocola and froggy and that's it. Amy can do whatever she wants in heroes. She's pretty much the same as the last two games.

To be honest, I’m not too sure what more they could’ve really done with Amy in Frontiers if they wanted to go with the “everyone going their own way” without retreading her adventure arc of finding her independence. It’s a bit of a bummer they did it with Tails but after Forces, I think Tails having a bit of a quarter life crisis, feeling like he should have had himself worked out by now and feeling ashamed about being inconsistent was warranted and actually kinda relatable, at least for me as I often feel that way myself. I guess they could write something similar for Amy but instead of being depressed about her situation like Tails was (to a degree) she could maybe just be more … contemplative about what she really wants in her life. I dunno, I’m just spit balling here but who knows; maybe Ian Flynn (if he’s on the writing team for the next game) has ideas on where to take her character if given the chance to put more focus on her
Flynn can't write a good Amy even if he were stuck in The Dark Place, she was a Sally expy during the Metal Virus arc and that's it.
I think what I could've done was place focus on her insecurities, of feeling that she has to be the emotional anchor to the point she can't have a shoulder to cry to, of not feeling good enough and be stuck on situations where she has to be saved, of feeling like her cheery persona is a facade to not reveal ugly aspects of her inner self.
@@dragondelsur5156 to be fair, there was a lot going on in that arc with multiple characters so naturally some would have received less focus. Besides, Amy being a “Sally expy” as you put it is probably the best Flynn and the other IDW writers could do under the mandates. Far as I know they’ve been less strict nowadays but at the time, they likely would’ve been in full effect. Not saying Amy should be or stay like that but I’m sure Flynn is plenty capable if given the chance.

Evan Stanley gets Amy better than Flynn, and all it took was one issue for her to be back at being the character I love. The ugly reality is that Flynn is no Amy fan as much as the people that praise his writing sell it, she's not a priority to him, she's just a middle point until reaching the characters he actually wants to write for.

I feel it was an inherent mistake to frame it around "being away from Sonic" as "long time no see" is such a common phrase in this franchise because Sonic is away from his friends for long stretches of time on the regular.
What for Amy perhaps could have worked would build on the fact that she is like the one self made hero with every power she has including her cards being things she gained through hard training and constant practicing.
So have her ask the question if all of her efforts were even worth it when in the end she still needs Sonic to save her both here and in Forces before.

Honestly, I think she had it good in Frontiers. Her characterization was much stronger from the get-go, and her gameplay in The Final Horizon was the only one that didn't need any adjustments. At worst, it's a step in the right direction for her character.

But about Amy, she's always been my second favorite next to Sonic himself. I think Amy needs more of her original cheery attitude, and a bit more of a dramatic personality similar to the funny moments in Sonic X. Still a voice of reason and very caring to others, but willing to go apeshit when pushed to the limit or when someone is threatening her / other's happiness. Her being too mature is boring, but being too chaotic or obsessive is annoying. It's good to find a balance between these two aspects of Amy's character. People might see her as a stereotypical girl, but I don't think there's anything wrong with Amy being feminine. As long as that's not all she is.

You remember that goat character from Hoodwinked? That’s my take on Amy. She expresses her feelings for Sonic through music and song, the one consistently good aspect in the entire sonic series. She’s a banjo troubadour, and also has a huge gluttonous appetite, so her and Sonic have this Shaggy Scooby Doo dynamic where Amy just straight up steals Sonic’s food, which also ties into her throwaway trait where she wanted to open a cafe, and practice cooking.
Also, why not emphasize Amy’s love of soft serve ice cream in addition to her tarot cards? Have her and Sonic go onto long conversations about their favorite food establishments, favorite dishes, flavors, etc. Let’s bring back Amy’s interest in cooking and food, and have her be a bit of a big eater in addition to being a chef and a banjo player?

No matter how much hate people have given Amy in the past. No matter how much hate people still give Amy nowadays. Amy Rose is still and always will be my Favorite Sonic Character. I like and love her for who she is as a character. She is very cute, sweet, positive, caring, heroic, and very funny at times. I admire Amy for all of the great things that she has done in the past. Like helping Gamma see the good in himself, helping Shadow remember Maria's promise, and helping Cream save Chocola, plus helping Big save Froggy. Amy never gives up on her goals, and she is always positive. And those are great things to have. Amy is such an underrated and under appreciated character. It's unfortunate that she is hated more than liked. But regardless, I will always like and respect Amy for who she is. And Amy will always be my Favorite Sonic Character. ❤

I think Amy has a trait that the games hinted A LOT as well as Sonic x but everyone misses or shoves it off as a gameplay/animation mechanic. Magic!
Besides teriot cards, Amy had been shown to use real magic multiple times in the series though Sega kept it as Gags and subtle, never doing much for the plot.
Heck even her Sonic Superstars Act Amy Lagoon City theme has a magical vibe to it if, you listen closer.

I went from liking Amy to kind of hating her. The same way certain people feel about me (Classic Sonic) is exactly how I feel about Amy. I genuinely don’t see a reason for her to exist anymore. I don’t find her to be an interesting character. She feels too similar to Sonic and Tails. She has the empathy of Sonic and the admiration for Sonic of Tails. Nowadays, she just feels like a basic girl character, and it’s only decreasing my interest in her. I don’t find her relationship with Sonic interesting at all. Anyone can say no to a girl, so why is it only interesting when Sonic does it? I guess she got a teeny bit more interesting being something other than an annoying simp, but still, she's nothing special.
Personally, I feel that Amys character in Frontiers was well done. She felt more mature than her previous versions who always kept trying to get Sonic to love her. Obviously he does, but they focused her more into the lore or Kronos Island and how much she cares for others.
Also, Thorn from Sonic Prime pretty much solved the nature defender issue since she literally isolated her friends to protect the forest that was getting exploited from them. I do wish she had a bit more screentime though...
I think the whole "protector of nature" angle might be where they are taking Amy anyway, and admitedly this is mainly cause of Sonic Prime. Which I understand is a touchy subject when it comes to characteriation but here me out. Easilly the most plot relevant version of Amy in that show was Thorn Rose, who acts as a guardian of nature in the show. Also i'd like to point out that in Frontiers, Sonic suggest leaving the coco because he wants to prioritise saving Amy and she tells him off for trying to leave someone in need behind, so i'd say some of Adventure personality is coming back in Frontiers if not as blatantly as the rest.
My last thing is that I have no personal issue with them bringing back her tarot cards, let the girl have her hobbies. Gives a bit more flavour to make the character more interesting.

I recommend using the original japanese stories of the sonic games and not english ones i understand you maybe dont know japanese and that is why you dont use them but windii has translated lot of the japanese cutscenes. (unfortunately most of her videos were deleted but there are some repost i have made a playlist of most of the reposts.) but other than that good video. There are also a few retranslated mods you can use. And the voice acting is just way better.
Amy wasn't amazing in SA1 and 2, but she was fine. Just a slightly pushy girl who wants to help and sometimes does, but has much to learn. Then Heroes came and Sonic Team decided she either has to be crazy or largely irrelevant for some reason, which stretched all the way until around Lost World(Yeah, she is the one character who started her road to being un-broken in the 2010s, it's genuinely a shocker) when she suddenly made a turn out of nowhere towards being more reasonable while staying somewhat relevant towards the narrative's focus and a few years later, here we are.
Current Amy is fine, it's an upgrade over what we had before, but it kinda feels dry and flavorless? It may just be that her character was assassinated hard enough for almost a decade to the point where no progression can feel particularly "natural" and it is hard to get excited over her presence at all. I guess I am one of the few people who actually liked what they did with her in Frontiers mainstory(I genuinely don't even remember them doing anything with her writingwise in Final Horizon...which is ironic, considering she is actually playable there), so that's something.
Also, can we talk about how people push her entire assassination onto Maekawa even tho that does not make much sense? Sure, she is more passive and helpless in SA2 than she was in SA1 so you can give some flak to him as a writer there I guess, but like...she was still entirely fine overall in that game. And she fell into the exact same issue of "either be crazy or irrelevant" in games he didn't write at all and even other media. Just because he wrote Heroes(under strict mandates because they only allowed him proper creative freedom in Team Dark's story...which is the best part of the game btw, lmao) does not mean he is the spark that burnt down the forest, that character direction was clearly pushed from above.

Though for the sake of the lolz, I'll comment that I actually was a shipper until I realized that Heroes onward kinda negates any legit potential for anything to happen.(If anything, Black Knight teasing the possibility twice is kinda crazy given the circumstances. But then again, it is Black Knight, the game that's just wrong about nearly everything outside Sonic's character, but maybe even that considering the story is so ducttaped together and gassing up Sonic beyond what is reasonable and also never properly referenced again even when it should be...to the point where many people genuinely agree with Amy that he made it up, which would be horrendously OOC for him. Heroes was actually mostly fine the real problem was the presentation, IN game dialogue Amy greatly changes the look of her cut-scene dialog.
Shadow she was like quite a few character just there to give you a mission (at least her mission in saving Cream was very much related to her character with Cream being her Tails)
Riders she is actually pretty okay I think. She has her own interest and cares for others. And the most extent of her love is to actively annoy Sonic.
06 is very mixed between the "Sonic>World" line (tho to be fair Silver, Rouge and Elise bring the exact same lines so its not juts her) and her actually showing genuin care for Elise emotions and trying to make her mistake up to Silver which also pushes both of there character arcs further.
In rivals and Unleashed is she kind of just filler
Only the unholy trifecta or Rush, Battle and Free Riders have Amy go fully insane over Sonic.
I would also disagree that nothing could feel natural for Amy at these state as just about everyone seems to be happy with her writing in "The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog"

@@rynobehnke8289 I generally do not mention Shadow for Amy because she is barely in the game and there is nothing much to talk about, as she only appears in like 2 cutscenes, one stage and one bossfight. I guess she can be considered as largely irrelevant in that game, though that's actually fine because that game is basically an "anything goes"-narrative. There is just nothing outstandingly good nor bad.
And my issue with Black Knight is that the story basically falls apart if you look at it funny, yet it is praised like the second coming of sliced bread interms of story. Like, an example is that Merlina's plan only makes sense due to people writing fanfiction into the public contiousness. The game never explains what that is all about and all it DOES provide us with makes it seem like she is just going to destroy the kingdom, not preserve it. And I can go on and on. The plot has a onesided illusion of working and nothing more.
There is also a personal component I am not entirely proud of, in that even interms of character writing where the game is genuinely good(at least if we don't go with "Sonic made it up to get out of the date", which we have more reason to believe at this point), people take it to the point where they will trash writing consistent with the good characterization of SA1 and Secret Rings just because "it is not how Sonic acted in Black Knight". And that's just not it chief.

I don't quite get your issue with Black Knight at least the parts you have mentioned.
Merlina's plan and motivation is rather simple. She (properly using magic like Erazor in Secret Rings) read ahead on the story and learns that Arthurian Legends end in a tragedy.
So to prevent that did she get a super powerful magical object her grandfather Merlin created which allows her to bring the entire Kingdom of Camelot into the Underworld were she can freeze the kingdom in place. No one is ever growing older, nothing new is ever build or changed. Everything will last forever just the way is it right now.
She does work more with her the boarders of the book than Erazor did who literally just rewrote the text but her plan and motivation aren't that complicated as long as you accept that Magic can do what she says it can.
I wouldn't take Amy's side on the whole "did Black Knight happen" argument as we in the very end literally see the title of the book change like it happened in Secret Rings.
And I have to ask what are you specially referring towards? Is it about this damn IDW Sonic issue 50 thing again?

That is what I mean with people writing fanfiction to justify why the story is any good.

Caring and sympathetic is not everything Amy should be, she's a go-getter and someone who will jump to danger without thinking twice, I feel those aspects should be given relevance too or else you risk the character being turned into a stock nice girl with no other emotions.
