I'm trying to learn like 10 languages at once already, but I think Italian is one of my favorites. I'm starting today. I haven't been consistent with my language learning but since I have nothing to do besides sleep all day I'm going to try to learn almost fluent Italian and French by the time quarantine is done. I'm also 8% Italian and my great great grandparents immigrated from Sicily, Italy to the US.

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. I’ve heard many times you are supposed pronounce each vowel but is that so if they are in the same syllable? Listening to Italians say certain words sounds more like diphthongs but maybe it’s because they are spoken faster. Euro for example sounds arrow to me but is it just eh-ooh-ro? Or do some people pronounce same syllables as diphthongs and others as individual sounds? I would really appreciate some clarity on this lol. Thanks!
Your question would require a very long explanation ... because there are "diphthongs" but also "hiatuses" ... the difference in pronunciation depends on the accents on the vowels. The diphthong is a group of two vowels that is pronounced with a single emission of voice and forms a single syllable. The hiatus is the union of two or more vowels that are pronounced with distinct sounds and therefore do not form diphthong. To make your life easier, however, let's say that in Italian all vowels should always be pronounced.

Seems easier to learn than the Spanish alphabet and some of these I recognize from Spanish class. I would have to remember to omit some letters.
