Are the “extra” letters every used or is rhat why they are extra? Just started learning Italian so im a bit confused on that part!

Not commonly used, only in some cases like "kilo", "x-ray" etc.

These letters aren't considered part of the "standard" alphabet and aren't commonly used in italian words... However, words that contain these letters are used everyday in italian.... In fact the teacher already used the word EXTRA which contains an X.

The additional letters are there for words of foreign origin that have been assimilated into Italian.
Exaples are: yogurt, karaoke, wafer, xilofono, jeans.
Apparently there are around 13000 foreign words in Italian mainly from English and French, both using these letters.

L' alfabeto è quello che ha detto inizialmente. Poi ci sono delle lettere straniere che però noi dobbiamo pronunciare per dire alcune parole, ma non sono parole italiane, anche se rientrano nell' uso comune. In assoluto le lettere dell' alfabeto italiano non comprendono quelle lettere. Che poi noi usiamo parole straniere per nominare alcune cose, in tutte le nazioni è così. Per esempio anche tu dici pizza, pure se la pronunci piza. Ma pizza è una parola italiana.

@@sexymanicou3403 It's the same! "V", you can pronounce it Vi or Vu in italian; both are fine! I prefer Vi, but I say "doppia Vu" for W; in that case, I prefer the u! In fact, in Italian, the German car brand BMW is called "Bi-Emme-Vu"!
