I live in NYC , I have a grandfathered AR , but I just picked this rifle up last week in 223/5.56 I am extremely glad I did . It is very accurate for me and it is very good quality . I ran 2k rounds in a week . I used 5 types of ammo from the cheapest all the way to the top , no issues at all , not one . I have owned a mini 14 my entire life and this gun is way better than a mini 14 . I love that it can use any brand of AR mags unlike the Ruger . And ruger mini 14 in NYC are selling for $1200-1500 as of the last few months , taking advantage of the fact we can’t get any semi auto AR style rifles except for the Ruger , but that has now changed . This is less money and way more of a firearm . And as a man who has hunted his entire life and used hunting style rifles and shotguns , this gun feels real nice to me , better than my AR . It’s more natural and after or aging for a week I am extremely competent with this firearm , more so then anyone who shoots in the 3 gun clubs I am a member of ,
Yes, considering this as well. Would you use this to hunt white tail with this caliber, however? I am new to hunting and from what I read 223 is borderline for white tail deer. Any feedback appreciated.
Fightlite is sitting on a gold mine and is just twiddling their thumbs, milking this as much as they can. If they would make an SCR that works with an AR-10 upper, it would be sold out within a day.
If these were as available as I am seeing on the internet, fightlight would be rolling in money. Something is slowing their manufacturing and distribution.
@@Joncenalol235Here in NY many people modify the BRN-180 upper to fit the SCR, because the rumor is the rat tail bolt carrier tends to jam. Instead of going through that most people just get the Ruger mini.
Glad to see the FightLite seems to finally be embracing the SCR. I have two of the original ARES-branded SCRs from 2014(?), which have been my primary semi-auto rifles here in NY. For many years, it was like the SCR was an afterthought, as far as production and support. It's always been a great product, so I'm happy to see higher production and more promotion. Hopefully, there will be a precision trigger option at some point, either from FightLite or from a third-party manufacturer (e.g., Geissele.)
Also from NY. I think the SCR is the best NY option as it’s still half an ar15. I let these pass me by the first two production runs. Wasn’t making that mistake a third time so I jumped as soon as they became available. I have a BCM upper on mine and happy with it but I’m also hoping for some aftermarket support. Hope fightlite is reading! Lol
The gun shop upstate back in 2014 was selling these. The customers all complained about the terrible trigger. Another model was made with an improved trigger. The gun shop stopped selling them. The Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30 are better rifles with plenty of aftermarket options.
@@boostimalaka1 The very first triggers were bad, but that was quickly changed, and you could send them back. I have a low serial number one that was already after the improvement. They were actually a really great option, but Ares/FightLite never kept production up. There's a very good chance that "the gun shop" didn't choose to stop selling them; they just couldn't get them. I like the Mini-14, but with the SCR, you literally have every upper-receiver option for AR's (except the carrier), every Remington 1100 stock option (870, too, if you use a piston AR upper), and can use any AR magazine.
@@carpingnyland8518 The Remington Stocks need to be modified for a proper fit. The wood furniture is a nice look. Sadly, you will pay a premium now if you find a FightLite. In New York, it must be a non threaded barrel. The other problem is mounting a scope. It is difficult to rack the action because of the lack of clearance with a scope.
One of the most sleek and sick looking AR-15 in these high-tech days. Hope the magazine release is extended so you can manipulate it with a trigger finger.
Got mine in about 3 weeks ago, absolutely LOVE it!! Very small break-in period...like one magazine. I've put about 200 rounds through it, 300 Blk, and it handles and shoots like a dream. Everyone that gets to shoot it immediately wants to order one. AND, Fightlite was top notch at contacting me and keeping me up to date on my order progress and delivery date. 5 stars all the way around.
Hi guys. Don't know if this is in the works, but i would LOVE to see (and buy) the MCR in a piston driven configuration with a 1913 rail for fixed or folding stock. I also saw the new Herring Bandito and interested in buying one in an AR10 lower. If i could fit my Gen12 upper on it, that would be a bad ass setup. And if it's sold by you guys in 8.6Blk and 6.5CM that be even better. Love what you guys got going on here and can't wait to buy myself the lower for the bandito on Christmas.
Any chance of a Washington State version with a stock forearm extension from the lower like a classic rifle? Dunno if that's doable but would be such a blessing
Are there any recommendations for sights? I find all the standard ar15 sights, even the Troy micro sights, sit too high and give me more of a chin weld than a cheek weld
I placed a comment in agreement with this post earlier today. It's gone for some reason. Basically I agreed that open sights are unobtainable for the SCR and I mentioned - with a link - that ARES (now Fightlite) used to make iron sights for the SCR and posted a link that described them. Is posting a link a problem and that's why my comment was deleted? Here's some information from the link... From ARES: May 2015 ARES Defense Systems, the country’s leading manufacturer of innovative, mission-configurable firearms, parts and accessories announces the release and availability of its optional iron sights for the company’s ARES SCR™ rifles. The sights are designed to be user installed in minutes with the supplied wrenches and instructions - No Gunsmithing Required! The front sight is installed over the ARES SCR™ low profile gas block and is a four-position protected post, adjustable for elevation with a standard AR sight wrench or bullet tip. The rear sight fits over the ARES SCR™ MIL-STD 1913 receiver rail and is user adjustable with a windage drum. Additionally, the front sight housing includes a 1″ sling swivel for mounting your favorite sling.
Big issue I have is the point of contact between the bolt carrier and the buffer. Just seems too easy for that little tail to slip out of the little dimple.
That hasn’t occurred at all in the decade that we’ve been producing and shipping our SCR, so we have no reason to believe that it is likely to occur at any point in the future.
Sweet set up but the one thing I don't understand about all these high price offerings not just these guys but almost all is why in the hell do they not just put some flip sights/irons on these things ? Yeah I get most want to run red dots and or scopes but a rifle over a $1000 should come standard with sights. But yeah this is a nice rifle.
The only BCG that works for the SCR is the SCR unfortunately. BCA 5.56/.223 works but you would have to bring it to a gunsmith so you can have the BCG accept the threaded charging handle.
I don't see why a 22lr upper wouldn't work. They don't use the buffer at all. I only have experience with CMMG 22lr uppers. Mine is from right to bear. I believe the BCA is just different enough to not be CMMG parts compatible, but the same overall design. The only issue I could see is the back of the CMMG bolt carrier wouldn't have the stock ar15 buffer to push up against. To correct that some type of spacer could be created on a 3d printer or other material. I don't know how 9mm ar15s work, but I believe they require a buffer tube, and they use a different bcg. You could probably use a 6.5 grendel upper since they use the same bolt carrier, but a different bolt.
@@iangrefig8815 looks like as long as it's designed with a buffer tube. The arak 21 I have did not mate well with the scr since it doesn't have the typical bolt carrier design.
