I tried this drill and then removed the stick and couldn't believe the distance my shots were going. Best advice ever to help store power in the back swing. A truly eureka moment.
On my first lesson the pro pointed this out at the start. . Amazing how this fix corrected other things as well. He gave me a feel drill thats working but I will for sure add this into my routine.
Randomly ran into this last night and I finally fixed my lower body getting in the way because of my sway... Thank you so much.... My swing that got me through junior tournaments and college golf is now soo much better, you’re the best!!!
Wow I wish I would have found this video and drilll a long time ago. Been struggling with poor hip movement (rotation) and a sway for years. Best drill for hip work I've seen.
Well explained Chris, most golfers I see do not rotate the hips correctly in the golf swing. Usually, not enough rotation is made! This video clears that up for them and should get them on the right track. Cheers.
Going through some of your instructional videos, and your channel is the best one out there. This video right here will have the avg golfer hitting crisp powerful shots
I think learning to properly rotate the hips is the foundation of the swing. This is a great tip which ive never seen, thanks. Flexibility in the hips is crucial to this. I have a great 5 minute hip rotation routine on my channel that could help your students in their quest for lower scores.
I think we all struggle with the concept of hip rotation. Your drill using visual aids really explains the term keep centred. Years ago my professional at the time coaching me kept saying keep centred. Your losing your centre. This video makes sense. Thanks John blagg
Thank you Chris. Returning to golf after some years away (kids/family etc.) having once been off lowish single figures I am horrified by my awful sway which is causing lots of variation in the top of my swing and results that I'm not happy with. Only today I had a great lesson on this (my left leg was collapsing towards my right leg making a less stable base against which to torque). Now I have a drill too which I look forward to applying to reduce/eliminate this horror! Many thanks and cheers from Australia - Dave.
Great drill. Would you apply that same logic to the hip turn in the downswing (i.e. try and keep it centered) or should there be a slight lateral move to your lead side?
Chris, I think you need to get out a bit more if you are having a relationship with your golf ball! Seriously though, great instruction. Very clear and informative. Cheers
Love it Chris! My wife and daughter gave me a funny look when I was following along in front of the TV - broom stick dangling from my crotch. lol. I just discovered you recently and you are already my new favourite mentor, thanks for your pro guidance, the best part is you - good energy and communication skills. I look forward in watching all your other videos, thanks again!!!
Watch 4:46 to 4:47 , from back swing to down swing your belt buckle has moved 6-8 inches laterally before hip rotation. That is perfectly normal for a good swing but it is in contradiction to your alignment stick drill.
Why focus on the hips in the first place? The hips will do whatever is necessary if you present brain with the correct task. The task in golf is to hit the golf ball towards the target.
So there is no lateral movement to the left on the downswing? If so I’m confused as most other well known tutors advocate a drift to the left, if RH? Can you please clarify?
I'm gonna have to try this.... My iron striking has been extremely bad lately .... I thought it was due to firing my hips too soon causing arms to lag behind but this could be part of the issue as well
Hi Chris. If that stick doesn't move right (since you have it connected to the front of your body) that means that your tail bone must be moving left. But shouldn't our body mass (which is in front of the spine) be turning around and to the right? So the tail bone shouldn't be moving left and that shaft should be moving right?
See my problem is that when I hit I have no hip rotation and my ball (with the driver) always goes right. Now with my irons I still have no hip roation but I smash the ball almost every time. Im really trying to better my game I don't play very much but when I do I either play really good or really bad. The last time I went golfing I played 9 and shot a 47. Do you have any tips on how I could fix the dramatic slice to the right.
Curious if this could also be used to show a good lateral pressure shift towards the target in the downswing. By making the alignment stick move forward in the same drill in the downswing. sort of a 2 for 1 drill.
I think this is a good tip, my problem in making the turn is that my head comes up because I am not dropping my left shoulder. I will use this at home to help overcome this problem. Does exercise also apply when using the driver or is it just for use with irons?
OK... that's all well and good. What about the "inverted K" look some say you should have. Right shoulder leaned somewhat lower than the left.. I suppose you still have the proper upper torso swing???
I think the rod should not stay centered. The belly button moves into the right leg/hip, that is internal hip rotation. In the bad hip turns this doesn't happen. If you move the pelvis as a whole the distance between belly button and right leg/hip stays the same or even can get bigger.
You will improve ball strike by learning how to move the hips? Never heard anything so silly. This ladies and gentlemen is golf coaching for you. Pick a body part and learn how to move it and you will run like a Usain Bolt.
I tried this drill and then removed the stick and couldn't believe the distance my shots were going. Best advice ever to help store power in the back swing. A truly eureka moment.
Hit some today's, I practiced this but focused instead on keeping my belly button in line with ball. Much better consistency, thanks.
Great Lesson.
Outstanding tip, thanks
Excellent visual aid that makes sense. Thank you!

This will be my focus at my next range session, I think it will solve some of my issues. Thanks.
Well explained Chris, most golfers I see do not rotate the hips correctly in the golf swing. Usually, not enough rotation is made! This video clears that up for them and should get them on the right track. Cheers.
Excellent simple drill, well explained. Thanks
Going through some of your instructional videos, and your channel is the best one out there. This video right here will have the avg golfer hitting crisp powerful shots
Thanks Chris, great drill I’ve been playing golf for 50 years and I know this will help me

What a wonderful demo/drill!
Cheers, Chris!

Your videos are always original, non-gimmicky and so well explained.
Thanks Edmund appreciate that 👍
Just found this video. Thought my rotation was good, how wrong was I. Strike has improved no end. Thanks Chris, keep up the great work.

Chris....Such and important lesson for golfers...well done
Literally the best hip rotation instructional video i have ever seen.
Easy looking drill. I'll be trying this indoors this winter.
Can't wait to try this drill Chris. My question is do you rotate your hips and shoulders at the same time or shoulders first and hips follow ?
Fantastic drill! Can't wait to try it at home!
The video that have been missing all along thanks for this amazing drill!! Definitely trying this out on the range!!!
Best tip yet Chris! Thanks!
I didn't even need the alignment rod. I have a much better substitute.
ssbsnb1 Jesus Christ your a legand😂😂
Should be a bit fatter though if that’s long
I was talking about an aluminum rod. What are YOU talking about??? 🤔
@@ssbsnb1200 🤣🤣🤣
Good looking drill will defo exercise this drill as I would tend to sway my hips backwards to much. Thanks Chris
Chris... this is truly exceptional. Thanks!
I’ve been working on reducing my sway. I’ll try this. Thanks!
Great drill. Would you apply that same logic to the hip turn in the downswing (i.e. try and keep it centered) or should there be a slight lateral move to your lead side?
Fantastic drill! Cheers chris
Good tip! Thanks!
As a beginner some great pointers!

Awesome Chris! This is a great drill !
Thanks Mike 👍
Thank you for your help, great drill!
Nice drill! Thanks

Thanks Ryan, and that’s what I like to hear, at home practice in the living room, perfect 👍👍
True Story - My wife and daughter were in front of the TV this morning following along your videos. lol,
Watch 4:46 to 4:47 , from back swing to down swing your belt buckle has moved 6-8 inches laterally before hip rotation. That is perfectly normal for a good swing but it is in contradiction to your alignment stick drill.

it's about exaggerating
Great drill Chris.
When you do hip rotation to the right, what type of hip rotation is it? Internal or external?
So there is no lateral movement to the left on the downswing? If so I’m confused as most other well known tutors advocate a drift to the left, if RH? Can you please clarify?
Can this drill use in the downswing?
I'm gonna have to try this.... My iron striking has been extremely bad lately .... I thought it was due to firing my hips too soon causing arms to lag behind but this could be part of the issue as well
I can't wait to try this out. I feel like right now, my alignment stick (driveway marker) is going to get some grass stains.
4 divots for the first good shot of the day, Chris your pulling our legs... Oh to be young again!
How long is that alignment stick? Can I use a snow stake?
Great video
Hi Chris. If that stick doesn't move right (since you have it connected to the front of your body) that means that your tail bone must be moving left. But shouldn't our body mass (which is in front of the spine) be turning around and to the right? So the tail bone shouldn't be moving left and that shaft should be moving right?

Excellent, I’m going to put this into play!
great drill. thank you!

Yes it could help
With that too, I’d like to see a small lateral move to begin down 👍
A very good drill to stay centered
Chris good video. Question for you, in the backswing do I initiate with my shoulders, hips or both simultaneously? Thx!
Great video I am going to try some of this
I think this is a good tip, my problem in making the turn is that my head comes up because I am not dropping my left shoulder. I will use this at home to help overcome this problem. Does exercise also apply when using the driver or is it just for use with irons?
Can you make a video how I can grow my hair like yours.
Nice
OK... that's all well and good. What about the "inverted K" look some say you should have. Right shoulder leaned somewhat lower than the left.. I suppose you still have the proper upper torso swing???
Excellent!
Does the length of the alignment stick matter?
No shouldn’t do with this drill
Thanks!
:puts the ball 150 yards into the hole: "sorry, it was the first swing of the day, a little rusty"
I think the rod should not stay centered. The belly button moves into the right leg/hip, that is internal hip rotation. In the bad hip turns this doesn't happen. If you move the pelvis as a whole the distance between belly button and right leg/hip stays the same or even can get bigger.
You missed the comment at 3:50 into the video. He's talking about excessive sway.
Makes sense but small majority of pros do not even rotate like this. I’ve tried this and my distance has reduced.
I wish my swing looked like that lol
I heard a lot of WHAT and zero HOW.
ん
You will improve ball strike by learning how to move the hips? Never heard anything so silly. This ladies and gentlemen is golf coaching for you. Pick a body part and learn how to move it and you will run like a Usain Bolt.
dont destroy my time pls
Excellent !
