Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel. Today I´ll be showing you what´s in my pilot bag. The things you definitely need and you can without.
You have requested this video so many times, so it is my pleasure to help you out!
Okay, when it comes to choosing your first pilot bag, pleae do yourself a favor and don´t by the cheap one. If you can afford a 800 Dollar mobile phone, you expect a certain reliability as you use it on a daily basis. So be smart and invest in a decent bag as you are going to be using it very often over a fairly long time. I know colleagues who had their bag for over 25 years, Rimowa or Samsonite was their choice and there are many other high quality suitcase manufactures out there. But if you decide to buy the cheap one, you might as well buy two, to use the other one for spare parts.
Size does matter. Your flight bag shouldn´t be to big, and not to small. Make it dependent on the airplane you are flying. Boeing cockpits are less spacious than Airbus cockpits, so make sure that it fits next to your seat, cause you don´t want to place it behind you, as you are constantly getting stuff out of it.
If you are planning on becoming a pilot in general aviation industry a carry on bag will do the job, but if your planning on becoming an airline pilot make sure you get a pull trolley. Cause you´ll be walking miles and miles through terminals and around airport aprons and you do not want to carry your bag, trust me. And whilst your at it, make sure it has a strap at the back so you can attach it to your layover suitcase.
Let´s talk about the items to go in your bag. So this is all the gear you´ll be needing and let´s pack them in the order you´ll be using them.

Never seen a USB power port in a Boeing or Airbus f/deck... normal outlet yes.
George Joseph thats weird because the planes i’ve been to are AC 12 volt sockets. Those cannot charge an ipad. They can just about power a lightbulb. Because in the cockpit there are AC 12 volts its hard to charge anything. You’d need an adapter. So to charge an 128 volt ipad charger follow these steps:
1. Smuggle an adapter past security
2. Get it on the airplane
3. Drown the loud noise of the adapter
4. Dont cause suspicion.
Or if you find a way to connect your power directly to the DC power batteries or to the APU when running, witch is frankly much harder
For example the B787 f/deck power outlet is 115VAC/60hz.

On the printed pages and EFB he probably blurred out sensitive information. But I highly doubt that the logo on the back of his high visibility vest is that secret. ;-)

Opsec! you're gonna need more than a lanyard to to blend in as ground crew if you dont belong. But a high vis with the right logo will keep an intruder from looking suspicious at a distance. Can someone just take a picture in the terminal? Probably, But Joe is making sure its not his video thats the source :p

For those who can't wait... Pilots can't wear polarized sunglasses because the windscreen of the aircrafts is already polarized. If you wear polarized sunglasses, the pilot can't see the sparkle of light that reflects from other objects with shiny surfaces, such as another aircraft.

Actually, if the cockpit windows are polarized as well, you won't be able to see anything at all. Two polarization filters that aren't aligned are effectively a window blind.

Most of the LCD screens are also polarized. I had polarized diopter glasses and whenever I had to work at PC I had to use non-polarized ones :-D Every screen has different align of polarization. Sometimes there was almost no change in view, but in some cases I seen just black screen
Also the newer airplanes like the A350 for instance and also some Boeing planes have now heads up displays and with polarized sunglasses you can't see the projected writing on them.

I travel A LOT on business, & after seeing this video about 6 months ago, I bought a Rimowa bag & frankly....Captain Joe is absolutely right. My all aluminum luggage (cabin S) are not only extremely well engineered & constructed German made quality, it looks great! It get compliments all the time from people in the airport & colleagues as well. It was expensive (over 1000 dollars) but its worth it.

Chatta290 Most airlines do provide headsets with every aircraft but they are almost always rather shitty and it's definitely better to use you own!
The ones provided by the airline may not suit your ears or preference and... germs.
The aircraft does have headsets (required by law) but they are not expensive noise cancelling ones like what he has. If you're going to be flying 7+ hours a day 4 or 5 days a week it's worth splashing out on nicer ones. Plus you can then listen to music as you fly.

Excellent advice Captain Joe! I did this with my photography hobby, spent £100 on a camera bag and its lasted me 4 years so far with no wear and tear.
A top quality bag is a good investment. Again, you most often get what you pay for...

So as a teenager. I carry a few things with me for my travels (Flight or not) I will have my normal school bag, one bag to hold my books and stuff like that in, my laptop, my phone, change of clothes, emergency gear (lady products, toiletries and medication for a day or two), medication for the trip, water bottle (Flying international wont be full but otherwise it will be full and snacks

I really doubt pilots in this day and age have time or even wanna risk having sex while on or between jobs.
Pilots split up before flights to ensure they don't concoct the same illness together. And they take extra care to avoid anything that can contaminate them.
I always bring a separate cadre of food, for this reason alone.

Funny to see another pilot mention pens. I have had pens fail in the cockpit. I now use the Fisher Cap-o-matic pens. The pressurized cartridge has been quite reliable. I've always got two handy in case I drop or lose one. What do others recommend for reliable pens? Looks are irrelevant here.
I've sworn by the Uniball Jetstream series for years myself. The ink flow is so much more consistent and smoother than regular ballpoint pens and doesn't get clogged even if not used in a while.

When I still used paper in the cockpit, a pencil would never fail. Staedler makes a nice one. If you have to sign something on the ground, just use one of the 500 hotel pens you have (don't play coy, pilots are incapable of leaving a hotel without taking all the pens). I still keep a pencil in my pocket but I use a stylus and our EFB for 99% of cockpit writing.
I am not a pilot but work closely in the industry. A little while ago some of the Boeing guys popped by and gave us a little corporate goodie bag. The usual tat (lanyards, keyrings, notebooks etc) but they also had an interesting pencil that had about 12 spare leads. The pen was surprisingly heavy too. When we queried, we were told that the pen and pencil (and notebook) were part of the kit that Boeing provides to its test pilots as well as options for first-tier pilots. I can't comment about the pen but the pencil was fantastic. It has lasted me 10 years, two of which I used it exclusively while draughting engineering drawings.

Not a pilot; but a auto mechanic. Out of all the flashlights I have used, streamlight stinger is the best. LED, Very bright, comes with a spare battery and charging cradle.

It's not an automatic translation. Users may add subtitles in their languages and translate the title and description. So, if you are still seeing the title in English, it means that nobody had translated it yet.
In my bag's emergency compartment, I have 2 pcs of pain-killers, just in case I get a terrible headache due to fatigue or lack of proper sleep.
On the other hand, I save on underwear. I can survive 2 days in the same underware. Yes, it's disgusting, but survivable. At least for me. Not for the captain though.

@@naveenpatidar3328 actually that depends on the specific condition that you have in your eyes. For example, if you have nearsightedness you have something like -5.0 to 5.0 diopters limit but if you have estigmatism you can only have a maximum of -2.0 to 2.0

Yes, they do. Many countries require visas. At some places you can arrange it upon arrival, some of them OCC team can arrange it for you with prior notice and there are also locations where without the visa you cannot enter the country.
No the pilots go back to their country after like 18 hours or maybe 10 hours after flight.

I'm amazed that your company does not provide basic things like bag and headset etc.
Headset is provided but it is more comfortable (and more hygienic) to have your own personal headset than use the standard headset.

‼️⚠️GREAT TIP BELOW‼️⚠️
-Pens don’t need to be expensive (you’ll occasionally lose or leave one behind), just bring more backups.
-Bose are excellent, but overpriced IMO. Look at brands like David Clark, and save yourself lots of $$$ while not sacrificing quality.
-Polarized sunglasses will make the instruments in a glass cockpit fade-black. Don’t cheap out on eyewear, but no need to go crazy either. I use RayBan, and only use this pair for work. I use another cheaper set once out of the aircraft. This minimizes the chance of losing or damaging an expensive pair of necessary protection. So I’d add to the list, this cheap backup pair of sunglasses
-the tooth brush kit and underwear, socks, t-shirt are an absolute must!
‼️⚠️TIP: neatly roll the items into the T-shirt and vacuum seal it (squeeze air out of a ziplock bag also works). This will keep these items clean and most of all MINIMIZE the space they use up in the Flight Bag.
Agreed with all. Just adding,
In pens, yes doesn't have to be expensive, but just generic reputable (don't want a pen which has a chance of leakage and mess up flight docs or uniform). Also get a spring click pen, rather than a cap one.
Bose, DC, lightspeed etc is an investment for your ears. So don't try cutting corners here. Get one based on your requirements and budget. But yes this is more applicable for GA aircraft which are noisy. For an airliner a telex will also work fine.
Sunglasses, are also an investment for your eyes. So do get a good pair. Polarised may be hit or miss, but just go for non polarised to be on the safe side, especially if you'll be operating a glass cockpit aircraft.
An emergency night kit is more applicable if your flights are QTA back to base, as for layovers you'll already have a layover bag with you.

Not a pilot here but always dreamed of it. Now just a curious mind about learning all the details.
BUT GOD There are so many many many many x 10 details. How the hell does a human remember so many details?
Just watched the video for the airplane lights and you have so many details about 10 switches of lights while taxing-taking off while having to deal a lot more serious things.
Also spents so many hours thinking remembering the details, planning the next flight route as he said and taking notes. This life is so dedicated to a job which is ok to understand but still can get how a man can remember so many details for so many things!
Those things and details will become familiar during the flight training. There is also the line training which happens when flying the real flight routes and during this period the pilot will learn the airline's procedures. And before starting to fly a certain aircraft type there is a type rating training for that particular aircraft type.
