    The item I'm the most proud of, in my flightbag, is a ball inflating needle... I've saved the day many times by deflating the kids footballs that we can't accept on-board unless deflated... 😊

      Probably not joking
      The cabin may be pressurised, but its pressurised to specific altitude (such as 5000ft)
      Meaning air pressure drops after takeoff- and any inflated/sealed item swell up. (take a packed of crisps with you next time you fly)
      The last thing anyone wants to hear is the loud *BANG* when an over-inflated football bursts in the cabin.

      Thats a really good idea, just few days ago we spent precious time trying to deflate a kid's ball with no succes, even the captain try, but we don't have a needle so we have to board it partially inflated

    A better question is, what's in the *passenger's* bag? I worked part time for TSA a few years ago. One day I was running the x-ray machine when I saw a weird looking skeleton on x-ray. I called for a bag check and the officer found a live cat stuffed into a carry-on.

      Not only that, but if you call the airline he works for with your (very legitimate) concerns, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to acknowledge he does...right before calling TSA...
      Rule #1 in situations like these; Whenever working with, for, or around someone on a professional level, the first thing you should do, even before reviewing on-site safety protocols for whatever job you're doing, is always ASK for CREDENTIALS!
      It's one of the first things I looked into when I started watching his channel. Plus, it's also kiiiinda hard to gain access to both the cockpit of a jumbo jet in service today & FAA approved flight sims if yer not...

      @Jablicek 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Oh, wow. That's a great question.
      Conflict resolution is difficult, because it relies on so many factors.
      * Corporate culture
      * The attitude of the person giving you grief
      * Their place in the heirarchy
      * The length of time you and they have been with the organisation
      * Your attitude
      * Others I haven't thought of
      The first step should be to address the person you're working with, calmly. State your case unemotionally, it leaves the person you're working with room to respond unemotionally. If you start bringing anger, anxiety or defensiveness into it, you'll be seen as less professional. A great way to explain your feelings is with statements such as "When you ..... I feel .... " This makes the conversation about your reaction, and not blaming or accusing the person you're talking to.
      If discussing the matter has no effect, you may want to broach it with HR. If they receive enough complaints about one staff member, they'll look into it, regardless of their rank or length of service or whose friend they are. A good HR dept will never tell the subject of a complaint who brought it against them unless you go into a resolution conference together.
      So. Perhaps the corp culture is that newer employees (regardless of rank) are cannon fodder and you have to put up with a poor working relationship, perhaps on a regular basis. Maybe the management support is based on your rank. You should have a feel for where you fit and what sort of reception a complaint may get if you lodge one.
      The person with whom you're having a problem may or may not be receptive to what you have to say. Pick your time. Don't do it when you're busy; your feelings just aren't that important. Focus, and get the job done first. Don't even try it if that person's having a bad day, just gotten divorced, etc. Trust me, they're having a worse day than you. Use the "When you ... I feel ... " statements. "When you talk to me like a child, I feel patronised." "When you shout, I feel anxious." "When you make sexist comments, I feel diminished as a person, despite my years of training and service"
      No-one gets past childhood without having gome through conflict resolution processes at some stage or another. Think back to times when someone's been brilliant at getting you and someone else to talk things through, or when you've been able to confront someone about their behaviour.
      Don't be intimidated. Everyone deserves a decent workplace.
      Lastly, you're not going to get on with everyone you work with in your career. That's life. Put a brave face on, ignore them when you have to, be the bigger person and be professional. The view from the moral high ground is fantastic.
      :)

    When I was a pilot, I always carried two pairs of reading and sunglasses each, a copy of all my essential documents, medical records on a flash drive, and at least two pairs of underwear, Essential medications, toothbrush, flashlight, earplugs, headset, etc., all were put into plastic bags for protection. The use of EFBs was wonderful, and as a result, traditional, bulky, sectional map binders were no longer needed. Two sealed bottles of water and snacks were a good idea as well. Don't forget your car keys, wallet, passport, as well as your airman's and flight physical certificate.

    Funny thing...I'm not a pilot but because my dad was an Air Force pilot when I was born, both my mom and I have paper WHO vaccine records. When I went to get my COVID shot, the lady at the (civilian) pharmacist was very surprised because she'd never seen it before. I hadn't realized until then that it was unusual to have that kind of shot record.
    Also, you're very right about things not surviving pressure changes. Funny/irritating story...my bag got searched by TSA once and they did the chemical testing, forgot to shut my conditioner bottle (or didn't shut it tight enough) and when I got home I opened my bag to find a TSA "we searched your bag" card and a huge conditioner mess all over my clothes. Thanks for that. -_-

  • @miroslavpavlov8131

    I loved the video! Makes 98% of reasonable sense to have any of the items in it. I'm still not a pilot but I sure want to be one(since as long as I am self aware) so this was quite the good learning experience. In my day to day backpack that I always carry with me I actually do have most of what you showed for the very same reasons you explained - common sense is to have always a good pair of backup glasses(in my case sun glasses, I never leave home without them), I keep a pincer board with me too to order my most needed documents(in my case all of my "big" car documents, and it also helps to have some good quality white paper to write on. PENS! This is what you got me sold on the video the moment you mentioned them! "Black ones, because they are good if you need to scan something after that" - I don't know how many times I had to explain myself to other people why most of my pens are black(and I have at least 2 pencils too) - scanning, copying, faxing - everything is so much better quality if it's done with a black pen or a very good quality pencil :)
    Since I'm also into electronics I have just one tiny thing to mention, but it caught my eye and it's going to keep bugging me if I just stay silent about it: You put your iPad with your screen out, and you did it twice. This makes me feel that this is maybe an unconscious habit. This increases the chance of the screen braking. Yes you had some had objects behind the iPad from the other side of the bag, BUT - if you just arrange the board to have the pinch facing inwards, and the vest for example between the board and the "head phones" section - this will reduce even more the chance of an accidental damage - probably more than double.
    Thank you for the awеsome video and continue making them. I'm watching most of them when I get some free time, and it really helps me prepare for what is to come :)

    LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3
    Tie two or three colored ribbons of different lengths around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it.
    Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the turnstile...
    Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long. Cut the ends at 45 degrees then seal the end with one drop of Super Glue to prevent fraying. If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/2” or so, they will all show up no matter how they drape.
    Tie the 3 ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 6” from the handle. A longer ribbon shows up better. You can see it from 40 feet away. Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case. This way, it won’t slide around.
    Put your phone number on one ribbon using a permanent Sharpie.
    Example: “Owner 454-333-7878”
    Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique.
    Stand by the output hole port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing the piece.
    Tie your skiies, duffel bag, and what ever with matching ribbons-even your computer case.
    If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself.
    Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible.
    Pleasant color combinations:
    Red and blue
    Chartreuse and purple
    Orange and light blue
    Orange and yellow
    Gray and pink
    Green and yellow
    Red and Green
    Red and Gold
    Light blue and light green
    The third ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan
    Tip #2 Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like”.
    Tip #3 Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape..

    Thanks for the great podcast, I absolutely love watching your videos! I've got some questions, I hope they have not been answered yet. You mentioned you drink coffee, so do you make it before the flight in an airport or being on board? And if you make the coffee on board which water do you use? Is it the same water all the passengers are being served with or is it from some separate special water tank? The reason I'm asking that is because there're some stories on the internet suggesting that you should never drink the water served by the cabin crew because the water tanks are never being cleaned. Thanks again for the interesting videos!

    The other reason for a plastic clipboard is for security scans: A metal clip board can/will/should trigger the metal detector and show up on X-ray.

    • @filippogallo1088
      @filippogallo1088 ปีที่แล้ว

      doesn't make sense. you still have the headset, ipad, torch and surely other items that would trigger the metal detector/show up in the xray. the only pro for having a plastic clipboard, IMO is being lightweight and to don't scratch the glare shield

    Hi, one important thing to mention: in modern glass cockpit aircrafts you should not use polarized glasses, for the simple reason that you would have a hard time seeing the MFDs and such.

    • @mrblc882
      @mrblc882 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I heard about it in another video, even tho, this problem should be avoided because polarization of glasses is known and standard. Unlike mobile devices which could be looked at different angles (of rotation, not vertical/horizontal angle), cockpit displays are fixed and unless you are laying down in cockpit, you are always looking in same angle.
      Also, if you are required to use glasses, your sunglasses should also be correctional.

    • @crysishell9226
      @crysishell9226 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video Mentour! As always very formative (especially when you are starting in the business).
    Unfortunately, at the begining of the "food chain", I may have to go for the cheap option first...

    • @patheddles4004
      @patheddles4004 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly that just depends on whether you can afford the expensive option up-front. If you can then you definitely should - it'll help you quite a lot through your training, and you won't have wasted money on the cheap option that you then replace with the expensive one anyway.
      I've just started my training, and I have the same Bose A20 that Mentour has. They're amazing, and I'm really glad that I could afford them up-front.
      (I realise I'm a bit late to the party here, but I figure this might still be useful for other people reading this)

    • @avamendez1272
      @avamendez1272 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hot knife gaming this is a very pressurized industry. we understand, stuff happens. traffic, cars break down etc. .first thing that would happen is you call scheduling and let them know. what it's going to boil down to is the time you push from the gate. it's not a great scenario, say you push ten minutes late, generally no disciplinary action would be taken.
