Every pilot job is a cool one - personally if I were to fly professionally, I'd want to fly turboprops like the Q400 or Saab 2000. Sadly there is no chance of me passing a Class 1 medical so flying commercially is off the table. Everyone gets their own excitement from aviation in different ways, and I'm sure many people love flying Airbus planes, many love Boeing, many love the flying shed the Shorts 360!

Hi Captain Joe! It's true what they say..."When one door closes, another door opens." I'm really happy for you that the lady from CARGOLUX remembered you after two years. Please do a video about the difference between flying the Airbus and Boeing aircrafts.
Agree. Boeing is more of old school, Airbus is much more advanced. Boeing is like driving a car without ABS, traction control, EBD etc. while Airbus is like car who not only comes with these features but also ones like ESP, surface sensing suspension etc. I would personally prefer Airbus, not to forget the comfort of having open space in front of you & a table unlike Boeing
And with freighters, it's multiple big doors to boot :p I actually had to support a CargoLux flight when it got grounded overnight far from home with sensitive cargo. The flight engineer told me he actually prefers Boeing, as it is much more straightforward and fixable than the sealed black boxes on an Airbus. Kinda like an (older) Samsung Galaxy vs an iPhone, or a body-on-frame pickup vs a modern monocoque. That's why Boeing craft of all ages still get air time, whereas it's rare to find an Airbus that makes it past 30.
Hey Joe, so true what you said about the time between your flight school and the first job! I think almost every young airline pilot out there has experienced these times of uncertainty at some stage in their careers. But in the end it is all worth it and that’s why we fly 👌🏻😃
I can completly agree what you both say. Even though I am from a completly different industry (VFX) the same applys here. Be willing to work hard and dont just ist at home!
DutchPilotGirl Did you realize that Air Berlin is well... Gone ;-; but also remember the video where you 2 said the pros about joe' airbus A320 and you about your boeing 737 I think it was, Well now its 747 vs 737
Hi Joe. I've found myself in your shoes several times in my flying career. I too was type rated for Airbus. I flew the a320, 319, 300, 310 and the A380. Then Air India called and wanted me to fly their a320s. Two years later I go cross trained on the dreamliner 787. Believe me it has been a dream ever since. You have o take every opportunity that you can get. I appreciate your videos and I am sure you are helping young budding pilots everyday. .my son who is now a certified pilot and is getting trained in Toulouse for the next generation A320 neos, has a high respect for you. Kudos! God speed! P.S I've shared this video with him. My 19 yr old daughter is also training to be a pilot.
Don't feel sorry about being direct. Nothing about aviation is easy. I've spent over 8000 hours of my life working on the design of the 747-8F & 747-8IC. Owning rev - of a majority of the oxygen tubing system on the IC, to being a senior checker/lead of the modeling and drafting for the wing group for years, I can with so many lives on the line say I never let anything that did not meet our strict and ever changing standards by. I take a lot of pride in that, it was not easy to almost completely re design the plane in a new software, and or updating Mylar drawings from the 60's. That said, the 777 is hands down the most reliable, best engineered, most trusted, commercial aircraft, you can fly on today. Just ask the pilots. I'm so thankful to have spent the time I did working on the amazing teams I have. (Now once the planes have passed our inspections and FAA inspections, the carrier chooses to have their own maintenance team do service or rarely ours, it's out of our hands so it's up to you to choose a responsible carrier...) So think twice about flying carriers with a poor history.

I don’t think you will really read my post, but it’s worth trying. First of all congratulations for your new job at Cargolux and flying the beautiful 747. I used to fly for LAN Cargo flying the 76 and now I’m flying for an airline full of A320. There are many many differences between Boeing and Airbus. First, the fact that you’re no longer CM2, now you’re s first officer and many things change mainly in the ways of thinking and developing in your scan and many duties. Second, you will have to flare much more higher. In the 76 the flare was around 30’ flare, and at 20’ idle, here is around 50-40’ flare and then reduce thrust to idle. One big big point here is that in Boeing you will decelerate the throttles and hence the thrust, while in airbus while you set the throttles to idle either super quick or slowly the decelerate rate of engines is always the same when auto thrust sooooo just hang on tight while you find the speed to move the throttles to idle. The faster you set them to idle it will fall like a rock, the slower it will float. You might don’t need that but no one will tell you this unlesss you’ve flown Boeing and airbus and vice versa. Much of good landing the Boeing is in the throttle. I have 6k flight hours in the 76, and I also used to fly cargo only. It’s fantastic but no more clapping. Congratulations again !
Wait a second "captain" joe isn't a captain? Well, that just tares it, stop the video, cancel the subscription, hit the dislike button, and then find a airplane video that has an actual captain, LOL 😆
Sarkario Let's jusr say that a crashcourse in flying wasn't the best thing. If you look from a historical standpoint, like a lot of recruits died trying to learn to fly planes in the first world war.
Currently on holiday in London. Flew in an Airbus A320 with SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) from Copenhagen to London, Heathrow. On the day of my flight I kept thinking "imagine if Joe is flying this plane, or maybe my return flight" since we didn't know who you were flying for now, but that you flew A320 before. Wish you all the good luck in the future with CargoLux! Greetings from Denmark
Capt. Joe, I know this is well after the fact, but Congrats and your videos are very interesting. I just retired from a major jet engine manufacturer. Keep up the good work.
Joe you’re such an inspiration for me. I’m currently an independent architect working so hard to start my aviation education soon, it’s been my lifetime dream. I love watching your videos everyday, I learn a lot and admire the work you do with your videos.
Congratulations, Joe! May your new job bring you many adventures (of the fun kind, not the scary kind!), and I'm looking forward to your videos about them!
You’ll be flying Huntsville Alabama quite a lot. Amazing company. I’ve flown hundreds of flights as a cargo passenger Lux to Huntsville and loved every single one of them even when we had diversions to Iceland or Central America. Amazing times
Wow I love how honest you are about how had and induring it is to go from a cessna to airline. Youre a great pilot Joe and you for sure show this in all of your videos. Your knowledge for aircraft and the air industry is astounding. Keep pushing and keep going Joe, you'll be a Captain very very soon!
Congratulations on getting the new job and a dream to come true for you to be flying the Queen of the skies, Boeing 747! Some pilots say its their favorite aircraft to fly, hope it will be the same for you. Looking forward to hear your thoughts on your change from flying the Airbus to Boeing.
The reason they thought about you after such a long time, is because you appear to shine with confidence. Your demeanour is smiling, pleasant and helpful and this makes you look very professional. The aviation industry should be in admiration of you.
Screw being sorry about being direct.. Appreciate your honesty and you sharing your story.. I'll never be a pilot and have never aspired to be. What I aspire to is being able to fly without taking pills and to be able to see my children which are both based on opposite ends of the country without shaking at the thought of boarding a plane.. Watching your videos explaining everything flying has helped me more than i can tell you. Thank you for what you do Joe. Be well.
When I was still young it was my biggest dream to fly for Air Berlin one day since Berlin is my hometown and I used to see a bunch of these red and white planes. Well. Really sucks. I was so close. I would've applied for 2019. Well, the bancrupt of Air Berlin and the Ryanair strikes lately have changed my mind. I'll be studying and then I'll get a safe and well-paid job. And when I've saved up enough money I want to make my pilot's license and buy something like a small Cessna, maybe a 150 or 172.
Yeah, the being stationed in Berlin was the childish me 3 years ago. Now that I'll be studying of course I'll have to move and I'm at that time in my life where I start to accept that.
@Felix im also interested in the Lufthansa program but don’t speak German and lack the funds to pay the fee, do I have a chance in getting accepted? (I speak English, Spanish and Bulgarian fluently and have basic knowledge of French) I also live in the EU
John Gatev You can get into the ATPL course without any German knowledge. Currently, there is also an option to defer the payment for the training and get a sign on bonus which helps a lot.
Congratulations Joe! I am the lead/editor for the Boeing 747 FCOM/QRH. I would love to hear your experience on using our products and suggestions on how the 747 FCOM/QRH can be improved.
I always get so happy when I see a new Captain Joe upload! If I were studying to become a pilot I would love to have Captain Joe as my instructor. He’s just so good at explaining things about aviation and he’s so passionate about his job.
WOW Joe, glückwunsch zur 747-8F ich wohne in Saarbrücken(1,30 Stunden von Luxemburg entvernt) und ich war schon selbst da! WOW Joe, congratulations for youre 747-8F iI live in Saarbrücken(1.30 Houres from Luxemburg) ann I was there!
Mate, sorry for late reply, but you cannot compare the two. In what ways can you compare a small, twin-engine jetliner for 150-200 passengers vs. a massive, quad-engine cargo liner that can fly to Toronto at full load?
Well I’m an industrial automation engineer but the aviation is my second love. Joe’s words about pushing hard ahead after the dream of your life couldn’t say it any better, no matter what area does your dream lay in. Motivation and courage are the basic of any dream-come-true but I think that the faith in the success is more important. What do you believe in is one of the fundamental laws in the Universe. Everyone gets what he truly believes in. Every life dream is a hard task, but a combination of motivation, hard work and faith will definitely make it come true…
He did WAY better! Starting at the bottom of BA seniority would take 10 years off your life expectancy. Joe gets to fly anything, anywhere for anybody, now!
I was not able to become a pilot but I still love aviation. I read about it, visit airports to watch planes, watch videos, read private pilot instruction manuals and revel in the memories of the times I was a passenger in planes ranging from a two-seat Taylorcraft up to the triple 777. A person can find any way they can to stay a part of something they love. I even worked in an airport parking lot just out of high school. I also grew up near the New England Air Museum. Take a visit if any of you get into Bradley and have some time.
A lot of people forget there are many cool pilot jobs in aviation besides going to the Airlines.
You here? Nice!

Wait a second "captain" joe isn't a captain? Well, that just tares it, stop the video, cancel the subscription, hit the dislike button, and then find a airplane video that has an actual captain, LOL 😆

Will take a long time at Cargolux!
He's a FO. Look at the 3 strips on his arm. CPT has 4
Last week I was in Luxemburg and took some photos of cargolux planes at ELLX and now your‘re pilot there: just great
What a nice man this Joe seems!
I just love the Irony of a "Crashcourse" in flying.😋😄
Sarkario Let's jusr say that a crashcourse in flying wasn't the best thing. If you look from a historical standpoint, like a lot of recruits died trying to learn to fly planes in the first world war.
Dammm dude get to fly the Queen you lucky fella mate :) congrats
extremely happy for you man!!
Congarats for the 747 typerating
And your advice was just insane
Your advice for working hard and learning and pushing stands for all walks of life
Currently on holiday in London.
Congrats Joe. Happy 747 flying. Hardworking always pays off. Hope you will be a Captain soon. Good luck.
Capt. Joe, I know this is well after the fact, but Congrats and your videos are very interesting. I just retired from a major jet engine manufacturer. Keep up the good work.
You are my inspiration. Thank you so much. I will never forget your words: „A good pilot is always learning“.
I knew it was Cargolux the moment you said "one of the smallest countries in Europe."
i thought he was flying the pope
@@insanebmxthomas haha!

Vpmatt that would basically be the modified VC-25 aka Air Force One
He’s working for cargolux which is from my home country 😂 I’ve seen so many of those planes, maybe he was flying it 😂
The recommendation of doing something of value during downtown instead of sitting on the couch is great. Employment gaps look bad on resumes.
Congratulations Joe.. All the best... Love from India..
Glad to see you back Joe! Greeting from BDO / WICC (Indonesia) keep on good work Joe :)
I think you are very kind person and very good at your work, its good the world has people like you
Joe u didn't tell ABOUT how u financed your training
Rich parents like all of them
@@junkshow1463 No rich parents for me. 100% good credit, and working hard finding a lender.
Unfortunately, companies want 500 hours on type for first officer positions nowadays. BAA do a good cadet scheme, wouldn't bother with ctc or l3
@@CPTLYNXY not at all, flybe, ryanair, BA for example

It would be cool if you make a video about the differences of Cargo and PAX flying

Joe, you are blessed because you’re a good man with a good heart.
Hell yeah, can't wait to see a 747 on that wall. Congratulations, man!
Finally Joe decided to switch from side stick team into yoke team
Firehawk Android lol
Hello Capt Joe ,you deserved it ,because you are the best....Congrats! and thanks for the clever advices.
Thanks for emphasizing “hard work” is an important.
Congratulations on getting the new job and a dream to come true for you to be flying the Queen of the skies, Boeing 747! Some pilots say its their favorite aircraft to fly, hope it will be the same for you. Looking forward to hear your thoughts on your change from flying the Airbus to Boeing.
Direct, honest and informative. That's a good video. You've made another masterpeice.
James Sawley I saw calgary airport
The reason they thought about you after such a long time, is because you appear to shine with confidence. Your demeanour is smiling, pleasant and helpful and this makes you look very professional. The aviation industry should be in admiration of you.
Captain Joe, now that you have moved into a Boeing 747 the next video with DutchPilotGirl is going to be 2 engines vs. 4 engines!
Great story! 😍 Wish you all the best for your new journey and a lot of fun flying with the queen! 😊
Glückwunsch! Jetzt gibt es bestimmt eine Extra-Folge wie man in der 747-8F seinen Kaffee bekommt :)
Be well.
YES! Cargolux does come to Mexico City! I will be able to spot you!

it fly everywhere, sometimes I saw from my house the tail of cargolux on a flying plane, Subang Airport Malaysia ✌
I was hoping to be stationed in Berlin tbh
Good luck bro
Brilliant, informative video and many congrats on the job with Cargolux!
Joe’s advice is spot on. Anything worth having is going to take hard work.
That was amazing! Good luck with your new company!

I always get so happy when I see a new Captain Joe upload! If I were studying to become a pilot I would love to have Captain Joe as my instructor. He’s just so good at explaining things about aviation and he’s so passionate about his job.

Do a 737 vs 747 video with Dutchpilotgirl!
Mate, sorry for late reply, but you cannot compare the two. In what ways can you compare a small, twin-engine jetliner for 150-200 passengers vs. a massive, quad-engine cargo liner that can fly to Toronto at full load?
tesla guy, a Cessna172 can fly to Toronto.. Where do you start?
@@Planeverse Yup, that was the entire point of my comment.. Thanks for clarifying that, I guess...?
2 737 MCAS system failure recently, 747 takes the win automatically.
Essey Tesfay MCAS is only one the 737 MAX 8, there are other 737 models
Well I’m an industrial automation engineer but the aviation is my second love. Joe’s words about pushing hard ahead after the dream of your life couldn’t say it any better, no matter what area does your dream lay in. Motivation and courage are the basic of any dream-come-true but I think that the faith in the success is more important. What do you believe in is one of the fundamental laws in the Universe. Everyone gets what he truly believes in. Every life dream is a hard task, but a combination of motivation, hard work and faith will definitely make it come true…
Awesome! Cargolux are a great carrier.

Your a credit to your industry Joe.. hope I’m lucky enough to fly as a passenger with you one day
Congrats!!!!! I love Cargolux
You made me want to be a pilot
I honestly think that flying a Pilatus full of skydivers *32 times a day* is even more exciting than flying an Airbus.
I don't doubt it. To each their own I guess!
did you see the powerdive that passed the skydivers??
I was not able to become a pilot but I still love aviation. I read about it, visit airports to watch planes, watch videos, read private pilot instruction manuals and revel in the memories of the times I was a passenger in planes ranging from a two-seat Taylorcraft up to the triple 777. A person can find any way they can to stay a part of something they love. I even worked in an airport parking lot just out of high school. I also grew up near the New England Air Museum. Take a visit if any of you get into Bradley and have some time.
