- Here is how you install a dash cam in your Toyota Rav4. I install a Blackvue DR900S-2CH in my 2021 Toyota Rav4 Prime but these instructions are applicable to any 2019+ Rav4 and any dash cam.
Here is the dash cam I bought.

It has come down in price a TON since I bought mine. This is a smoking deal right now.
Because the card will be constantly rewriting you are going to want an excellent micro SD card. I went with this Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB card.

Way to go. I used a superlong zip tie and electrical tape to get behind the airbag using your method.
Nice work!
Lots of things are unexplained: how to take out the rear view mirror panels, how to take off the light panel, how to wire , which wire is linked to where. I wish this video could show more that a person like me who has no idea about cars can do it on my own.
That orange/red splice connector that you use, we call it as environmental splice connector, prevents moisture from entering the splice as long as you have use the heat gun properly, we use that on aircraft wiring modifications.
It’s not a heat shrink type. It’s just a cheap one.
BlackVue DR900S is 4K front 162 deg viewing angle, another brand Thinkware U1000 is also a 4K front but viewing angle is 140 deg.
Thank you for the excellent video.
The procedure seems complex for a newbie like me. LOL
Happy to help! Don't forget to hit that thumbs up button for me! Thank you!
Does the camera create any issues with the aux battery when you use the parking mode? how long does the parking mode last for you? I am concerned since the aux battery is charged when you drive on hybrid mode.
Hi James
I was installing the dashcam per your video and tried taping the sun roof power. I cut the pos and neg wires, checked to confirm power, wired in the 12v to 5v adapter. No power. I must have somehow shorted out the connection. Checked ALL fuses to no avail. Not sure what else to look for. Any suggestions much appreciated.
Dan
Hey man. I will be doing this soon, so I wanted to ask you if there has been any issues with the wiring since. Especially talking about the wires you selected to tap. Maybe you would have done it a different way now? Or still would pick the same wires again?
I have a Thinkware with rear view camera as well, so this video was very helpful about removing the plastic covers. Sometimes those are a pain and if you are too rough the clips can break.
I’m also wondering if the wire you picked for the moon roof is permanently powered? Or is it powered only for 30 seconds after you shut off the vehicle? I’d like to have the camera on parking mode as well.
Great content. Trying to decide Prime SE or hybrid XLE premium. Can you speak to the durability and toughness of the cloth seats vs Softex? Thanks
Thanks for watching! I think the seats are great. Kyle from Out of Spec called me yesterday. I was in an XSE with the softex and he said he liked my seats better.

I just watched the video on installing the auto dimming mirror. Yes, you did say at the beginning of this video that there would be some duplication. How about you include in the comments a time in this video to which we could jump to see the new part of this video?
The video that is the same is a very small amount. Just watch through it. Its maybe 2 minutes of combined footage.
I once consider the Black Vue after my cheap mini 0108 started to acting up, but I went for the Thinkware F750 instead, because, the voltage setting and cut off in the app so I did not have to install any additional unit like the magic pro. I did not hardwire it until I decided to get the rear camera and use parking mode. As for those wire tap I hate them too, since they punch the insulator and can indeed compromise the cable as you very well stated, so I use a fuse-tap instead since it do not requires striping, punching or cutting of the wires. When I get a new vehicle I am going for a 4K with cloud storage. Thinkware and Black Vue are the only two dashcam I will buy and they are both the best Primmum Dash Cam on the market.
Exactly! Great comment! Thanks for watching!
Hello James little bit off topic here. Did you consider washer jet mod for reverse camera? I found some aftermarket solution from russia. And I wonder if new Highlander camera with jet can be used in rav4.
I dont know anything about it. Have a link?

Anybody know what fuse controls the power moon roof wiring harness on the 2021 RAV4 Prime? I am trying to do this install, but would like to disconnect the power to the harness before I splice into wires...
Did you ever get an answer?
@@drsidskan no, ended up doing the fuse panel install rather than try the splice
