    Overall you have a great video and very well said. But you do need to correct yourself when it comes to the orientation of the Add-A-Fuse taps. It most definitely matters on which way you place the tap in the fuse box. Without adding all the technical terminology "Line", "Load", "Hot", "Cold", Etc... Their is a directional current flow that takes place. Depending on which pin carries the 12+ on your particular fuse panel will determine which way the tap is inserted. You would need to check this using your multimeter or test light on the fuse panel and see which pin is providing the 12+. If you grab your Add-A-Fuse tap and position it so that your looking at the wire pointing to the right and the pins facing down, the Left pin is your 12+ pin. That pin will be inserted into the fuse panel that you indicated as having 12+ reading. As for the fuse themselves, it does not matter what direction they are inserted into the Add-A-Fuse tap. Hope that helps those that were asking.

    Thank you from Saudi Arabia. I have the same car you are working on but no one in my city finds a solution for wiring a dash cam. The best one of them told me I will wire your dash cam to the battery which I don't want because I want the camera turns on when the engine is on and turned off when the engine is off. However, I showed him your video and within an hour he finished wiring.

    It's important to say it actually matters which orientation to plug in the fuse taps. If the fuse tap blade is plugged in the wrong side it'll bypass the fuse and it will have constant power leavening you without protection incase of a short or overload.

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! In the traditional sense, yes, the fuse taps do have a 'correct' orientation. The reason we stated the orientation is not important in this sense is due to the fact that there is still an in-line fuse in the BlackVue power cable that is between the camera and the fuse tap. Therefore, the secondary fuse tap fuse is actually redundant. We hope that clarifies our statement.

    At counter 14:00 - You claim that "if what to film from 'inside' the car, we can simply ROTATE the cam." But when I told this to my installer, he says that (with proper orientation for outside veiwing), rotating the cam from viewing outside to the inside as YOU DEMONSTRATE in the video, would invert the source view and rocrd upside down. So which is it?

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      + Clan Killas Gaming! Technically, you and your installer are correct: rotating the cam from viewing outside to the inside would invert the source view and record upside down. We're saying one quick solution would be to rotate the camera to record inside your vehicle. The recorded image will be upside down, but the image can easily be flipped the right way using the BlackVue playback software. Hope that helps!

      Actually the orientation of a fuse into a fuse slot is inconsequential as the fuse is just a link between two +power wires that enables the flow of voltage/amperage from the battery source to the load.

    you should point out that fuse taping is only safe for very low amperage devices such as dashcams , if you use a fuse tap for high amperage demand you can damage the cars electrical system. for high amperage devices you need to isolate the circuit with a relay and get power directly from the battery, and use the fuse tap to trigger the relay .

    questions
    1) cant i just wrap the red and yellow wire directly to my 10a and 7.5a fuse and ground the wire -
    2) since the hardwire kit already comes with 5v 1.5a output - what will be the point of add a fuse with 2a piggy bank
    3) does the fuse have positive and negative side

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Miles,
      1) Yes you can do this, the fuse taps just make the installation a little easier and safer
      2) BlackVue dashcams actually operate on 12v input (not 5v). Again, the fuse taps are just a convenience item and the added fuse is redundant as there is another in-line fuse in the actual BlackVue power cord as well.
      3) Fuses themselves are just a pass-through so we wouldn't necessarily state that they have a positive and negative side
      Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns!

    • @JCaddy007
      @JCaddy007 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) reply to line 2 - - dat means even if i decided to use add a fuse - i dont have to use the 2a fuse at top - only the 10a at bottom and leave the top spot empty - since u said there is another in-line fuse in BlackVue power cord
      2) does blackvue hardwire kit equip with low voltage cut out and if yes at what voltage will dvr turn off to save car battery

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) You still need to use the additional fuse in the fuse tap since without the fuse, the power for the camera will not be able to pass through the fuse tap.
      2) Yes the Power Magic Pro has low-voltage cut-off, the cut-off voltage can be set to 12 or 12.5v

      @Thedashcamstore  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! The risk of inadvertently setting off an airbag while routing a cable near them is extremely low (it takes a *significant* impact event to trigger the airbag system in a vehicle). It wouldn't hurt to disconnect your vehicle battery before the installation process, for a bit of added insurance if you like.

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jetvlog Depending on the type of fuse tap, the rating of the fuse we include will be either 2, 3, or 5 amps. The rating of this fuse is not significant since the BlackVue in-line fuse (in the power cord) is still retained when the Power Magic Pro is used. So yes, these fuse taps, even with 5amp fuses, are completely safe to use with the BlackVue system!

    Great video, I am going to install a dr 750(instead of the 900 series because the 750 does better in the heat) on my Tahoe, same model also. The only minor problem I see is that when installing it this way you can no longer open the rear glass window while keeping the whole tailgate down. there is no slack in the wire to allow you to open the window or it will pull on the wire. But I hardly ever just open the rear glass anyways so not really a big deal. if you left some slack to allow the rear window to open separate from the tailgate it would not be a clean looking install as there would be a few inches of excess wire hanging down when the rear window is closed. I am correct here? I can't think of a solution to this problem. Again thank man for the diy video

    Hi I know this was 6 yrs ago but every video I've seen on fuse taps that they have to go in a certain way, the left side of the tap is the hot 12 volts and must be put in the hot side of the fuse socket, please correct me if i am wrong but thats what ive seen on many videos,
    Thanks

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @Mhosborn
    @Mhosborn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I''m no auto electrical expert, but am pretty sure the orientation of the fuse tap IS important. The dash cam fuse will typically be smaller than the fuse being tapped into. Inserted with the incorrect orientation could result in virtually no protection for the dash cam, couldn't it?

    The amazon reviews for that BlackVue Power Magic Pro Hardwire Kit are pretty bad.
    38% of the 156 ratings give it 1 star out of 5. Many seem to receive a unit that does not work, and many report units failing within months. Its kind of off putting.

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daz, we would agree that the negative reviews on Amazon are concerning. Our experience with the Power Magic Pro is that they are extremely reliable devices, and easily 99% of the issues people experience with them are due to improper installation or setup, or a lack of understanding as to how exactly the device functions. You'll see that when people can get proper assistance/support when installing and setting up the Power Magic, our customers do not have the same issues as those on Amazon. I want to install this dash cam system and need it to run all the time. If I tell it to run even when it is off do you know if it will cause me problems with my battery? Even if the vehicle is off for several days?

    • @Thedashcamstore

      +Jordan Robinson That's the beauty of the Power Magic Pro, it will watch your truck's battery voltage when the engine is off, and if it gets below 12 or 11.8v, it will turn the camera off so that your battery won't be dead when you return. A strong car battery will have no problem powering this system for several days without issue.

    when you installed the fuse tap you stated that it does NOT matter for the orientation [@ 5:58]. You are incorrect, the orientation of installation does matter. you need to check the fuse socket for line and load position and install the fuse tap in the same orientation. So, once you pull the existing fuse, test the fuse holder for which terminal has +12 volts ( in your case, which lite up your test probe), then insert the Add-a-circuit tap with the load pigtail orientated opposite (away ) from the Line (hot, +12v) terminal.

    • @Thedashcamstore
      @Thedashcamstore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fuse that is taken from the fuse box and put in the fuse tap is strictly for the original circuit in the vehicle. The second fuse is for the "new" circuit that is being added and is only for the dashcam.
