I play For Honor since it's release but I still can learn so much from your guides (Well, this is the first one I watched but Im sure the others can teach me things too :D)! Really good understandable and detailed yet not boring. 10/10 :D
When i started playing JJ a long time ago, i hardly ever fainted, or faked any hits. I watched this video and i started to learn how to make people so confused they couldn’t parry a single hit. The choke slap is easily one of the best moves in the game considering it’s recent buff, and overall he has some of the most fun mechanics to me. Whenever i’m close to low on stamina, i switch from fighting stance to sifu poise constantly and i spin like 20 times and they just can’t land a hit unless they charge me. it’s crazy lit and i recommend to anyone new
JJ is a very interesting character, Sifus stance is a good mechanic and now JJ's animations have been fixed he's in a good spot. That zone is easily parried if your opponent expects it so try not to rely on it too much, you've already seen the difference in Adapting your playstyle can do for you. Keep evolving and mixing it up. One of the most fun heavy class heroes in my opinion. The choke slap is a little too strong now at the moment though.

Good guide as always. I am starting to get into Jiang Jun just few days ago. However.. Due to the longer cooldown for second wind, would you still suggest it? I have tough as nail for now.
Thanks! 🙂 Tough as nails was nerfed also. Only giving 15% extra instead of 25%. Despite waiting 2 minutes, second wind is still better. The recovery helps save you from not only a deathblow but cleanses bleed and fire damage. Consider running bulk up as a perk if you really want more health. It's up to you ultimately though. @@Mattman_90 Yeah, even though tough as nails is nerfed as well, having extra health is always nice in my book. Combining Bulk Up and Tough as Nail sounds crazy good as a tank. But, I would rather have second wind however since JJ is already tanky.

It is still his best pick of the 3, soothing mist heals far too little and even tough as nails got nerfed, second wind nerf hurt a lot of heroes but it was a necessary change.

Play whomever you like, no reason why you can't play both! In terms of strength, Jiang Jun is a better hero, he has better Feats and his kit lends well to 4v4. Tiandi is lethal in the right hands but struggles to open opponents at high level play. I recommend watching Price Yasuke on TH-cam, he's a Tiandi main and really shows how to use the hero properly.
I haven't played Shaolin enough to compare to JJ in terms of fun but they both have their merits. Shaolin is way more complicated than JJ but offers a more expansive moveset and some very interesting Feats, where as JJ has excellent team fight and anti gank potential and good soft feint options with high damage. Take them both into training and play around with them for a while, see who feels more natural.
When wallsplatting an opponent from choke do you choose to mighty sanction and kick so you get a top heavy finisher instead of just a top heavy opener? Just trying to understand why you don’t just do a top heavy after the choke to wallsplat. Thank you.
Not sure if it's the same now after the CCU but the reason was confirmed damage. JJ's chain heavy is faster than opener so it was done to confirm damage. Might have changed now.
I have 11 reps in JJ. He's a very strong hero, good feat selection. Wide hit box on zone and good range too. Like all heroes he requires practice to acclimate to his moveset and playstyle. Jiang Jun benefits from patient methodical play, he copes very well outnumbered and can stall a long time. Easy access to unblockables give him good pressure too. He's certainly worth a go but if you're looking at 15k steel to use him then I understand your hesitation, watch some gameplay stuff online and see if it appeals to you. 🙂
@@Mattman_90 is he better than highlander since I have 10 reps on highlander.( I'm really beast with highlander and I really got bored from him) ... will JJ be better than highlander?
@@mazenmostafa2534 Well from an objective competitive sense, yes he is. Though I would say highlander is more fun to play. At least for me personally. If you're getting bored of a character then it's good to switch it up once in a while. I would never advocate not playing Highlander though.
Top heavy opener and finisher deal more damage than the dodge forward heavy. The dodge heavy (Mighty Sanction) is used to close distances and open opponents with soft feint into kick, this confirms a light normally and a top heavy finisher if the kick causes a wallsplat.
Before I had convinced myself I was more excited for the Wu Lin hero but I have to say I'm pretty hyped! The hammer is smaller than I thought it would be though compared to the teaser image way back when. Good news all in all, new breach map and potential hero updates for Orochi, Nobushi and Shinobi. I'm going to be busy lol! What about you? Excited? 🙂
There really isn't any need to update the video. Jiang Jun plays exactly as he did before. Sifu's poise doesn't travel back as far as it used to, this will keep him in striking range of heroes, the Sifu's poise will still dodge attacks, so basically it should be used more strategically as opposed to liberally. His damage remains the same.
@@Mattman_90 is it JUST ME, or is it better to backdodge then go into sifu, for certain defensive situations? I find myself getting smacked more when i try to use sifu as a defensive option, mostly when im really close to the enemy. Idk much about how the i frames work in this game, but there are definitely a few times where i backdodged and KNOW i wouldve gotten hit/bashed if i attempted a HS
@@danielbenitez4120 Well it depends on the situation I guess. Back dodge let's you convert to a roll but Sifus has better recovery allowing you punish whiffed attacks/bashes with your zone. Ultimately its going to take adjustment and understanding your match ups.
The shin kick is performed by dodging forwards and pressing heavy attack and midway through pressing guard break. So if you're using default controls then (Forwards + A + RT, X).
@@gundamlupuzrex4246 It's the same on PC. Admittedly the frame rate is much better on PC and the fov slider. However console For Honor is fine, with next gen fixing the frame rate. The two platforms will be more or less on par. What about the CCU did you not like?
@@Mattman_90 the pc experience was much slower before the ccu update but console was already fast-paced and ccu update made it extremely hard to play for the casual player base. 5 people I know quit the game because of the ccu update. Highlander is retarted on console and monks heavy and light combo is just dumb. They still haven't nerfed fire flask , bp 4th and highlanders 4th. Playing assassin's on console is like playing a Fleshlight unless of your farram of console. Law before had bad offence but now its worse. Dodge forward gets lighted, try to get your unlockable gets lighted, try to mix them up, gets lighted. Hyper armor is king of console unless if you have something it stop it, good luck. And that's just the problems of a competitive player, how about a rep 50 or even someone that just got got the game. It's now even harder to get into for honor then ever before. So like yeh ((btw 4 of my friends where long-time players of for honor
Does anyone know about a wierd throw he does after parrying , he throws someone to the ground even when they have stamina, not sure if its a glitch or not
Can they undo the nerfs they made on him? As slow as he is, he should hit harder. I really hate that despite not doing 40 damage he doesn't get a heavy off a guardbreak.
I don't think that the damage nerfs will be reverted. Nor is it needed. JJ is very strong, and 37/38 damage unblockable heavy finishers is really good. While he doesn't get a heavy from GB, he does get a 25 damage zone. That's on par with a lot of heroes, JJ recovers stamina easily, and he has high damage lights too. As for speed, his heavy openers are slow with armour but they make them very suitable for trading if your opponent is fishing for a light parry and the heavy finishers are faster than most. He really doesn't need a heavy from GB, it would be nice but it's counter intuitive to his playstyle.
@@Mattman_90 JJ is good but I wouldn't say he's strong. His zones are relatively easy for very experienced players to parry. While he does get a 25 dmg zone off a guardbreak (like Warlord and Aramusha's top heavy) it costs a lot of stamina. And that's on top of what mixups you'll need to do to get them to be guardbreak vulnerable. If you could Shi Fu Stance directly from a zone, I wouldn't have a problem with this but you can't. I get that you won't be able to get a heavy from guardbreak. With his animation, it would be silly. What I meant to draw attention to was the fact that he can't easily land heavies despite their damage not even being 40 when vanguards and hybrids can. That makes no sense. I understand why they took away the excessive stamina drain off his parry choke hold but then a few months later they make it so Jormundar's gut punch mid combo deals 55 stamina damage and from neutral deals 40. Wut?! But why did they take away his 5 damage from the slap on top of to his heavies? The least they could do is make them 40 damage. As for his opener heavies, they are absolutely horrible at trading. Like Warlord's. Which is why they're getting buffed on him. Most of the time when I do a heavy from neutral, the A.I. interrupts me before the guard comes out a real people do it but not as often unless they're spamming. His Shi Fu Pose was also made less safe since it backs you up only have the previous distance now. Still, I like playing JJ. One of my favorite things is to Shi Fu dodge people back to back and counter. You feel like a badass doing it but the timing is strict and I'm still mastering his movement.
@@demonwolf570 Warlords heavy finishers are getting buffed meaning his chains are used for trading. Openers need to have slower application of armour to allow interrupts other wise you just get another Hitokiri. Jormungandr's high stamina drain compensates for his bashes being unable to ledge or confirm damage unless the opponent is out of stamina. Jormungandrs neutral bash is also slower than the chain one. Plus Jormungandr needs to have high stamina drain because of the stamina changes applied to the game, it's not as detrimental as it once was being oos. JJ's heavy openers may seem bad for trading but they still can trade, it just requires the right application to do so successfully, again we don't want another Hitokiri. Sifus poise isn't needed after a zone, even when blocked there's enough pushback that you can safely defend after. It can be parried easily yes but a lot of unfeintable attacks can be with good reactions. He's a team fighter first and a duelist second and his kit lends to that idea. Sifus poise is still good too but the distance travelled is reduced to punish players depending on it. Getting a light or zone from GB is still better than getting no damage at all, and JJ has hard hitting attacks and easy access to unblockables giving him pressure. There's many arguments that could be made for damage for many heroes, of all the heroes needing damage changes, Jiang Jun is probably the least. He excels where other heavies don't and as such lacks where other do too.
@@Mattman_90 You make a good point. I forgot that if the hyper armor occurs too soon in an animation you'll get another Hitokiri. I don't think his startup heavy was meant for trading either but I would like for it to be slightly faster so I don't get interrupted mid attack so easily. I also get that you're safe after a zone due to the push back but after the pause, you're vulnerable to a guardbreak if you Shi Fu right after the pause. Not asking for guardbreak invincibility (We don't need another OP Nobushi), just the option to do it after zones. Edit: I forgot to mention that while people are able to react to other attacks at the same speed, his zones are easier since you can tell which direction it will come from.
@@demonwolf570 Sifu has two design purposes, to dodge. (Dodges are GB Vulnerable). And to regain stamina. If you suspect your opponent will try to GB you after a zone then a follow up light will catch them. The safest thing to do is nothing but that's the nature of fighting games. Knowing when to hold back and when to push forward. The heavies aren't necessarily designed for trading but they can. I think they're designed to allow him to attack other enemies around him without being interrupted. He's an anti ganker after all.
Press guard break during a forward dodge heavy. Whatever your key bindings are, not sure what the default is on mouse and keyboard as I play controller.
My least favourite is Shaolin but for other reasons. JJ isn't untouchable but most of what he can do requires a different approach in order to punish him properly.
@@camrendavis6650 JJ likes his space, get in his face with Nuxia and remember to let those heavies fly occasionally, the side ones for Nuxia are pretty good at tracking dodges.
@@Mattman_90 His kit has too many tools and provides way too many options and advantages to the player. He can essentially deal with any situation. There's no identity to this Hero. With the exception of his kick which is, essentially a worse version of Kensei's pommel strike, all his moves are better versions of what other heroes can do. No drawbacks, low risk, high reward.
@@Mattman_90 Forgot to say that I don't think he's game breaking or anything like that. And perhaps I'll change my mind once I get more accustomed to his move-set. But when you have a character whose every move can pretty much be described as "it's Xs move except better" then there's a clear problem. For now, my opinion stands on "What the shit, that's not very balanced"
@@bernardobastos5996 Fair enough, your opinion is your own. JJ has gotten better since his release, he's decent with ganking and anti ganking, has good interrupts with his range and his zone has a huge hitbox. I'd argue his damage needs to come down a bit and maybe lengthen a couple of recoveries so there's a point to using Sifu cancel. He's strong, I just don't think he's overpowered.

Tiandi is lethal in the right hands but struggles to open opponents at high level play. I recommend watching Price Yasuke on TH-cam, he's a Tiandi main and really shows how to use the hero properly.
@@Mattman_90 Thank you, I can only afford one atm, I don't have marching fire
@@Athaeme I would jump into training then. Practice against the bot for a while with each character and see who fits best. 🙂
Amazing guide!
Thank you. 🙂
Hey Matt you forgot to add the video to your guide playlist.
If that's all I forgot then it's a win in my book lol. Easily remedied though 😂
MightyMattman90 yeah I forgot to add my siege videos to my Siege playlist so me reminding you reminded me lol
I’m considering buying JJ or Shaolin, which one is more fun in your opinion?
I haven't played Shaolin enough to compare to JJ in terms of fun but they both have their merits. Shaolin is way more complicated than JJ but offers a more expansive moveset and some very interesting Feats, where as JJ has excellent team fight and anti gank potential and good soft feint options with high damage.
Take them both into training and play around with them for a while, see who feels more natural.
MightyMattman90 okay, thanks for the help!
MightyMattman90 got it. Thank you.
How did you turn on that parry bar thingy
So the thing is I want to play him , but idk if he Is really worth playing .... what do you think?
Cool!
😁
Do Hitokiri next!!!
I have already made a guide for Hitokiri, check my playlist to find it. :)
The hero has received a substantial nerf since I made that guide though.
How do we go into Stamina regen stance again?
All guard, if you're on M&K check your controls for the relevant input, on controller it is simply moving the right stick down.
Please explain...whats the difference between top heavy and dodge foward top heavy?? Same dmg..so...what is this dodge foward heavy for? Thx
Top heavy opener and finisher deal more damage than the dodge forward heavy. The dodge heavy (Mighty Sanction) is used to close distances and open opponents with soft feint into kick, this confirms a light normally and a top heavy finisher if the kick causes a wallsplat.
Thanks for the vid
Thanks for watching!
@@Mattman_90 :D
Bruh what you think about the Hulda trailer?
Before I had convinced myself I was more excited for the Wu Lin hero but I have to say I'm pretty hyped! The hammer is smaller than I thought it would be though compared to the teaser image way back when.
Good news all in all, new breach map and potential hero updates for Orochi, Nobushi and Shinobi. I'm going to be busy lol!
What about you? Excited? 🙂
i don’t even like jj but i wanted to see if he was op or not
He's strong but certainly not OP. I would argue that his light damage is a little too high for my liking though.
I call him Guan Fei as I think he’s more of a mix of Zhang Fei and Guan Yu
Wiol you update this since his sifu and damge gor nerfed
There really isn't any need to update the video. Jiang Jun plays exactly as he did before. Sifu's poise doesn't travel back as far as it used to, this will keep him in striking range of heroes, the Sifu's poise will still dodge attacks, so basically it should be used more strategically as opposed to liberally. His damage remains the same.
@@Mattman_90 👌👌🙌🙌

Was his shin kick removed? I’m playing on Xbox and can’t find anything about it, except that when I play him now I can’t do it
3:00 The shin kick was not removed. You can perform it by pressing guard break during Mighty Sanction. (Dodge Forward + Heavy).
How About berserker
In due time my friend.
I just got my Jiang Jun to rep 1 and I had no idea he could kick, how do u do that for Xbox?
The shin kick is performed by dodging forwards and pressing heavy attack and midway through pressing guard break. So if you're using default controls then (Forwards + A + RT, X).
How do i kick
By pressing guard break during a forward dodge heavy.
Thank you very much

I remember when for honor was fun
When was that?
I think aside from character balance issues (something the game has always had), For Honor's core gameplay is at it's best yet.
@@Mattman_90 the ccu update on console
Is different then on pc
Does anyone know about a wierd throw he does after parrying , he throws someone to the ground even when they have stamina, not sure if its a glitch or not
Hmm I'm not sure about this, is this unrelated to the choke parry counter?
Sounds dumb but you should help people choose their first character/main too many characters lol
It's an interesting idea, not sure how I'd go about it but I'll give it some thought!
How fast is his zone?
Both his neutral zone and zone from Sifu's poise is 600ms. His zone parry counter is 500ms.
Combination?? 180??
Spin to win?

MightyMattman90 yea hes pretty fun
My least favorite Wulin. They're impossible to touch
My least favourite is Shaolin but for other reasons. JJ isn't untouchable but most of what he can do requires a different approach in order to punish him properly.
@@Mattman_90 I'm a Nuxia main, I will practice getting past his weapon
@@camrendavis6650 JJ likes his space, get in his face with Nuxia and remember to let those heavies fly occasionally, the side ones for Nuxia are pretty good at tracking dodges.
@@Mattman_90 ok
Too many tools. Doesn't seem very balanced.
How so? JJ is a strong 4v4 hero with good stalling potential but lacks in 1v1. I would argue his only real overturned asset is high damage lights.
@@Mattman_90 As you said, fair enough.
