I finally went out on my first trip for 2021! Joined a few friends on the Liberty out of Fisherman's Landing in San Diego, CA. The goal was to chase the elusive bluefin offshore.
The Captain and Crew of the Liberty delivered once again! One of the best, if not the best, full day trip I've ever been on! Awesome weather with biting bluefin close to port.
    Enjoy!

Not the worst thing to drop down in line if you have enough line and a forgiving rod. Especially with a good circle hook.

  • @svvamprat22

I do the same I drop down in gear if I don't get bit. I'd rather have a heartache then a classic bluefin tuna boat ride.

The recent bft should really be fished at 60lb and up. They're even biting 130lb sinker rigs around gray light and on overcast mornings. Lighter line = longer fight & possible heartaches. The grade of fish changes by the hour so be prepared to put your jigsticks away and pull out the xxxh setup

@@trident2309 you don't know anything about 2 speed reels .wow. if the fish is far away you use high speed. When the fish is under the boat switch to low gear and you just crank him. Its easier to use a 2 speed reel. If you are fishing for big fish any over 40 pound use 2 speed. All my reels are 2 speed shimano talica or avet 2 speed you have to buy the quality reels to catch big fish.

@ Tri Dent two speed reels are kinda like bikes with gears. The gear ratio changes which means it is easier to turn the handle but you won't get very much line back. Less fatigue on the angler, easier to turn the handle. Single speeds still get em, killed a 180 pounder on my avet hx in about an hour. Tight lines

I have several videos of people fishing bluefin tuna why do people continue to bring spinning reels and bass reels. This is tuna fishing you should fish no lighter than 40lb fluorocarbon and 80lbs spectra 30-80 rod Shimanotalica16 2speed, fathom 40 2speed, avet lx raptor 2 speed. Another rod would be 60lb-100lb with Shimano talica 20 or 25, avet hxw raptor 2 speed, fathom 60 2 speed with 100lb spectra and 80lbs fluorocarbon. Last rod 60lb-13 rod with 130lb spectra and 100lb fluorocarbon penn international 30 or 50, Shimano talica 50, avet san deigo special 50 and etc.
