Oh jesus, ghost river, I nearly forgot about it! SUCH a great song. And that album is so theatrical and rooted in storytelling, Chase will love it, I'm sure!
Exactly, I have heard these songs a million times and really pay attention to Tuomas's tricks. Yet he still manages to hear stuff I never noticed in the background, and on the first listen xD
After my grandmother passing away yesterday, I started rewatching all your Nightwish reactions. It brings me happiness even in these sad times. Thank you.

This could easily be one of Nightwish's best concerts. Each song in itself is worthwhile reacting to. BTW, you did Romanticide, Song of myself and Storytime from this same concert. Love the detail and depth of your analyses.
Emppu is the master of the effective, not understated, not inappropriately wild.... "Goldilocks zone"!..........I knew the double kick would get you!!!! The entire Wacken show is amazing! Not a single bad song in the discography...... Thank you!
In the last part when you stopped and explained the building of intensitiy and the kick ass drums. In the original version Marco supported Tarja in singing and Floor creates the effect of building and building on her own. And this makes exectly this moment so exceptional.
One of the very few reaction channels that actually pays attention to the music and notices among other things what the drummers and bassists do. Most other ones just seem focused on the vocals and most of the rest gets past them.
The Lord looked down from the heavens and spoke these words to the Nightwish Army. I have blessed you on this day of 02/21/1981 an Angel of Metal and her name is Floor Jansen.
This was the first Nightwish song i ever heard. Century Child had just been released, i was a 13yr old listenening to regular pop music like anyone else 'normal' my age. Thank you Nightwish for making me discover the world of metal
I love it when new Nightwish fans suddenly discover Marco can sing, and a new door opens up. Kind of like someone seeing Prince play a guitar on par with the best guitarists in rock.
Yeah, that was a good choice.. Especially after the poet and pendulum. I'll just say this about floor: Most vocalists, me included, sing what we can. Floor, she sings what she wants.
Nightwish can do a "normal" metal song. An then take it to the next level. An make it epic. That's why they sell out wherever they go. Tuomas could write the phone book. An find a way to make it sound epic. As far as listening to Tarja. My heart has to say. Phantom of the Opera. That's the song that introduced me to NIGHTWISH in 04. Been a fan ever since.
The song that got me hooked into nightwish with Tarja was Wish I Had An Angel, I would check out the album version. I prefer the album over her live performance, but that's my personal preference. Floor naturally does a killer job when she does wish I had an angel as well, but I get why you'd want to check out the other singers as well.
Should have said "Ghost River" Wacken 2013. Point of interest, At the Wacken concert you can tell if the songs are early or late in the set as Floor changes from trousers to skirt for the second half.
I just have to comment that it has been more than "pleasant" to watch you watch these Nightwish shows. You try to keep calm and stoic and then just can't help but smile and get excited over them. 😊 Thank you for sharing all the details for us common folks that appreciate Nightwish but don't have the professional wording to explain or understand all the geniusness of them. Pure joy these are!
Great work again Chase ! This is the song, at least I feel that, where Floor can use her strongest qualities as a singer ! You pointed thoses out at the end, those high notes under full power and full controll are simply Epic !!
For Tarja I would go with the End of an Era show "Wish I Had An Angel", "Over the Hills & Far Away", "Phantom of the Opera", "Sleeping Sun" would all be good ones to check out.
If you are going to do "Over the Hills & Far Away". You should do it to the music video they made for it. Everyone looks so young in it. th-cam.com/video/CwED4C5FJuo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for your channel and for the Respect to how much WE ALL LOVE ❤️ the Nightwish experience !!! Another awesome reaction 👌😁 !!! Much love and appreciation for your excellent, expert, and exciting 😊❤️ explanations !
This is one of Nightwish's earlier hit songs. Those ending chorus's are just breathtakingly powerful. For the most part a straight forward commercially oriented song with a great song structure. If you are interested you should listen to Tarja perform this song (original singer) to see how Floor has modified it to make it her own and also in my opinion make it much more impactful. I love Tarja's version, but Floor adds a heavier belting quality to everything she does from the older songs. Great job once again Chase! Love your attention to the musical nuances.
I'm so in love with your reactions. I love the interest in your eyes, and on your face. That would be I think the point of this kind of videomaking .And also it's very cool that you always tell us your opinion, about the music, and what they do. I'm fan of this band since 2004 ,and there are things what I've never noticed in there music, then you came. Thanks for that :)
We all agree Floor looks stunning, whoever did styling for her did a magnificent job, but how badass Marco looks singing with guitar and fire behind him?
I think it's absolutely mindblowing, the things you hear and pick up listening to a song for the first time. I doubt there are many others that will be able to pick up the same details even after hearing it for a couple of times. And it's been said before but I will say it again, I don't think there is another reactor (is that a right word? Excuse my english, I'm Dutch) that brings the amount of depth and insight to a reaction-vid than you, Sir. Now I have a whole new approach to my journey. Every time I hear a song that I like (mostly Nightwish) I first listen to the "original" song, and then I go straight to your channel and see if I can find a reaction vid from you of that same song. And that takes listening to it to a whole new level. And then, Floor hitting those high notes and listening to you making it even better, FloorCHASm once again!
For Tarja, as others have said "phantom of the opera" from end of an era, and for me personally actually Ever Dream from the same show. They perform it a tad differently than they do here with Marko doing more harmonization during the last section of chorus. Get goosebumps just thinking about it.
Your attention to detail, and the way you explain what you’re hearing in the songs structure, is exceptionally good. The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, from their show in Rio, is another excellent example of Marco and Floor playing off each other. A few Floor specific suggestions, would be from her appearance on Beste Zangers. Her ability to taking a song, making it her own and staying true to the feel of the original, is impressive.
This popped up on my feed today, and I figured that yes, I do need some Chase and Nightwish in my Thursday. I can't believe it's almost been a year since you started down the rabbit hole :)
Love your reactions! If you want to do some with Tarja, pick "Wishmaster" or "Phantom of the opera" from End of an era. With Floor: "Ghost river" also from Wacken 2013, "Weak fantasy" from Tampere. And "High hopes" is also from End of an era. The Pink Floyd tribute with Marco singing!
You can type his name and the name of whichever song you want in the search bar or go to the search section of his channel to see which songs he has done. And the same goes for any other channel.
Nightwish are just the best. Your reactions are highly professional but don't lack emotions. What you say is brilliant and straight to the point, and what your face shows is just so much to enjoy. I really really love your amazing reactions to this outstanding music. Keep on going, huge fan here. ❤️
For some Nightwish Tarja goodness react to the End of an Era live show: My ranking: "Creek Mary's Blood" (feat. John Two-Hawks) "Planet Hell" "The Phantom of the Opera" (Andrew Lloyd Webber cover) "Wish I Had an Angel" "Dark Chest of Wonders"
Chase - You continue to impress... No matter how many times I've heard a song, when you point out all the 'small' details and layers it's like I'm hearing it for the first time. It's amazing how much you pick up on and how educated you are in all aspects of instruments and songs. Thanks for another great reaction & analysis. :)
Omg finally someone noticed and appreciated double kick in the last two choruses. In my opinion it's the best part of the song perfectly culminating the build up through the whole piece.
Absolutely with Tarja, Phantom of the Opera will of course will be asked by many, the Siren (which is actually one of Marco's favorites), the kinslayer, wishmaster. Oldies goldies ❤️ but when you get to Anette one day, I'm sure people will ask for bye bye beautiful but actual masterpiece from Tuomas.. is a longer piece called meadows of heaven with Anette singing. There is no good live versions of it so you would actually have to listen the album version, it is such a crime it's not reacted to more often! It is absolutely one of my all time favorites and since they rarely play it live, people forget about it.
Oh and how I didn't say beauty of the beast with tarja (album version), it's longer one from the early days.. And also underrated, it should get more appreciation!
Tarja song? Sleeping Sun, Wishmaster, Nemo, Creek Mary Blood, Swanheart, Walking in the air, and a song I have never ever heard or seen anyone talk about: White night fantasy.
Man this song gets me hyped!!! Another brilliant and entertaining breakdown brother. I think I can safely say that your observations, especially pertaining to the musicality, are not obvious to most of us out here. I definitely appreciate your keen ear and explanation of all the subtleties, really makes your reactions fun to watch:) Ghost River from same concert is sick, more from Marko in that one. Tarjas version of Nemo is beautiful. Have a good weekend Chase and all
For example: at 2:20 that smile and quick look at the cam, I am like.... what?!? What did I miss? It's a clue that you already heard "something". No idea what, but you know it will be coming right at the next "damn good pause" ;) And then a few minutes later you explain the change in Tuomas' play (chord) and I am like, no way! You are able to pick that up from just listening to that once? Again, absolutely mindblowing. Also probably because I know shit about all the technical stuff, I just enjoy listening, but still..... these are the things that make everything just a little bit better. Not because it suddenly sounds different (still sounds the same of course) but because you appreciate the time and effort put into a song more.
Yet another great reaction to a Nightwish song. One of my favorite songs of theirs with multiple floorgasms to be had :-). But it was one of my favorites anyway because I love both the musical side, and the lyrical side and I'm not one that takes in the lyrics to that many songs but this one means something to me. I've seen someone suggest Phantom as one with Tarja singing and I would agree.
Another awesome Nightwish reaction! Thank you Chase, you really made my day and it has been a shitty one so far. Thank you! It is a Nightwish Army favourite this one. More on their mainstream side but beautifully made nonetheless! Very impactful! Please more more more! A great one is " Ghost river " from the Wacken 2013 concert! If you want something with Tarya "Phantom of the opera" live from the "end of an era" tour is a good place to start (last concert before that infamous open letter). Or "Over the hills". Enjoy ☺
Such a great song and a nice reaction from you, thumbs up. Nightwish with Tarja: End of an Era concert: - Sleeping Sun - Nemo - Phantom of the Opera - or all from that concert ;) Nightwish with Floor: Wacken 2013 concert: - every song you didn't react to yet ;) One song with Marko - End of an Era - High Hopes(Pink Floyd cover)
Thanks for coming back to Nightwish! Regarding The Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere show probably is best version), I'd like to suggest you do Alpenglow from Wembley Arena first. It's a great, fun song on its own, but also some of the themes from Alpenglow are revisited at the climax of TGSoE. I tend to like having that depth of knowing the context, but of course your mileage may vary. For the Tarja years, it's difficult to offer up much live beyond the End of an Era show, or the music videos, because honestly those songs are from an era of lower quality recordings. That said, the songs which stand out for me are Wish I Had an Angel, Over the Hills and Far Away, Nemo, Walking in the Air, Sleeping Sun, Sacrament of Wilderness, She Is My Sin, Deep Silent Complete. Lots of people love their live version of Phantom of the Opera, but Floor's version with Henk Poort just ruined it for me (esp. since the backing band pretty much used Tuomas' arrangement of Phantom).
Empuu switched from Washburn CS-780 when the model was discontinued in 2000 to ESP mainly because he got a sponsorship. Both before and after sounded exactly the same - completely awesome. White guitars are tuned in standard EADGBE, velvet ones - a drop of a tone DGCFAD. Plus he has like 50 pedals for all kinds of effects, that part is his private secret of his signature sound. Unlike Alexi Laiho who had on/off switch on his signature ESP and gain to the max on the amplifier, so simple yet his sound was still magical. I still keep my own CS-780, the most elegant curves I've ever encountered. Ofc all customized with EMG's and original Floyd Rose 8)
Definitely checkout Tarja. I wish I had an angel or sleeping sun or Phantom of the opera are my suggestions for Tarja songs. Have a damn good day yourself friend!
Super reaction from you again, and you are spot on, on the details. Really nice 👍 And you are certainly right, a "plain" metal song like this, put through Tuomas's head - and out through Floor's phenomenal voice - removes the plain completely, and you get a Nightwish result that's just awesome. I agree with the others on Gost River, but a really strong alternative should be: While your lips are still red, Wembley 2016 - a nice ballad where Troy is using an E-bow instead of the uilleann pipe - and Marko is lead with Floor as backing vocal!!! - and I believe it's Marko who has written the song as well. That is beautiful, just beautiful. Just keep them coming - you are doing a great job on the analysis - but you might never be able to let go of Nightwish - it will be a lifetime addiction 😁👍😂🤘🤘
Awesome reaction Chase! The key change and double bass kicks gets me every time, can't help but head bang to that!! You could do "Phantom of the Opera" as Tarja sang it I believe at the show before the infamous sacking and Floor has done it recently on a TV show. Also check out "High Hope" (from the same show as Phantom) as Marko does an amazing Pink Floyd cover.
As Epic as Poet, GLS and Greatest Show are, this is my favorite Nightwish clip on TH-cam. It's short and sweet and captures Floor's incomparable power as well as anything I've seen. Great reaction!
And yea, the 2013 Wacken concert is one of the greats, particularly because they recorded it really professionally. You could just go through the setlist (remembering to use the version that isn't slowed down, someone sure has a link), as there is not a single bad song in that concert. I am partial to Amaranthe, not just because its a good song, but because it showcases just how in love the crowd is ... its the singalong piece of the set, except its not easy to sing along to, and they do it amazingly (for a festival crowd).
It's always the same with Floor, no matter how many videos I watch- she keeps topping herself. I mean I'm already a fan and she surprises me over and over again. Thanks for your great, joyful and still chill reactions and comments. Among the best on TH-cam.
Maybe something with more Troy? How about I Want My Tears Back for the traditional Celtic instruments he uses, Dead Boy's Poem for guitar, or the Planet Rock acoustic session where he and Floor do How's The Heart? Or all three? :)
I recommend as Tarja songs Wishmaster and Dark chest of wonders from End of an era (also Pink floyd cover High hopes from same concert with Marco doing vocals) and for more Floor stuff Last ride of the day and Weak fantasy (from Tampere 2015)
Fantastic review! every time you do a Nightwish song I learn something new and I've heard these songs 100's of times. I love this song so much, and Floor just absolutely crushes the ending, So much power, and so much skill to control and manipulate that power. She is unmatched.
You may like to try "Ghost River". It shows great interaction between Floor and Marco. It rocks.
Floor and Marco sound amazing in Ghost River.
Great song.
Oh jesus, ghost river, I nearly forgot about it! SUCH a great song. And that album is so theatrical and rooted in storytelling, Chase will love it, I'm sure!
Agreed
Ghost River it shall be !
I cannot believe you can pick up on so many details while listening for the first time. Amazing job!
Well, this is where you can tell he IS a professional AND devoted musician with well functioning ears and synapses. ;)
I thought the same,maybe i'm deaf😉
Exactly, I have heard these songs a million times and really pay attention to Tuomas's tricks. Yet he still manages to hear stuff I never noticed in the background, and on the first listen xD
Best commented reactions on nightwish Songs i Think. All the Infos are so great
Absolutely. I wish Nightwish band members would check out Chase's analysis. They themselves would be equally impressed.
I love the way you go still when Marco comes in.
A 54 year old viking is capable of captivating all of our hearts with just one line.
The final minute is like a tsunami, hurricane and a thunderstorm combined washing over you in an epic sonic wave.
I'm surprised there isn't an actual sonic boom when she soars after the key change. 😱
I once read something that describes the feeling perfectly:
“It’s like honey being poured over a thunder...”
Appropriate comment and simile because that's literally what's happening on the screens in the back.
After my grandmother passing away yesterday, I started rewatching all your Nightwish reactions. It brings me happiness even in these sad times. Thank you.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Glad these videos give you some distraction and happiness. Sending love and good vibes your way.
@@ChaseCarneson Thanks, it means a lot.
The success of Ever Dream is to express pop sensibilities with the tools of metal: the sweet-but-plaintive guitar solo (which IIRC Emppu said is the one he's proudest of), the double kick drum to emphasize/glorify the final key-changed repeat of the chorus.
This is the song that got my mom into metal. Now she listens to Volbeat while gardening.
"You need to stop talking" said none of us viewers, ever. Thank you for another great song review. 👌
Lots of reactors i wish would not talk so much... but i can listen to Chase all day. Or at least about 20 minutes EVERY day. :D
Emppu (the guitarist) has said that this is his favourite solo to play live! Such a gorgeous song.
Floor has said in the past that Ever Dream is her most difficult song to sing because of all the prolonged belts, damn I love this woman! ❤
This could easily be one of Nightwish's best concerts. Each song in itself is worthwhile reacting to. BTW, you did Romanticide, Song of myself and Storytime from this same concert. Love the detail and depth of your analyses.
It's the best single concert by any band I've ever seen. If there was ever a band that had a better night than this I'd love to see it.

@@TerribleChester Pulse with Pink Floyd comes close atleast. Scenes from Memory NY with Dream Theater also
@Semper verum With good reason. She threw everything she had at it.

Marco's vocal entrance on this song gets me every time.
Yep! It's kicking ass already, then just goes nuclear when Marko comes in!
Emppu is the master of the effective, not understated, not inappropriately wild.... "Goldilocks zone"!..........I knew the double kick would get you!!!! The entire Wacken show is amazing! Not a single bad song in the discography...... Thank you!
THAT'S a MULTIPLE floorgasm
Revisiting this one. "Does he always play the ESP?" TIME FOR TANK.
Say it with me: "Emppu is playing his signature ESP EV-1." 😂
he used Washburn guitars till the Century Child album.
In the last part when you stopped and explained the building of intensitiy and the kick ass drums. In the original version Marco supported Tarja in singing and Floor creates the effect of building and building on her own. And this makes exectly this moment so exceptional.
Definitely "The Phantom of the opera" live End of an era concert, sick singing by Tarja and Marco. You will be blown away.
Surprised by the lack of reaction to this performance
I was waiting for the double kick drum to come in and waiting for your expression 😂😂. You didn’t disappoint man

Also probably because I know shit about all the technical stuff, I just enjoy listening, but still..... these are the things that make everything just a little bit better. Not because it suddenly sounds different (still sounds the same of course) but because you appreciate the time and effort put into a song more.
I'm gonna ask "Last Ride of the Day", also from Wacken. It's the last song of the show.
This!
Your deconstructing the songs is why I always come to your channel. It is so enjoyable.
those "so epic it hurts" faces at the end there, me too man 😂
Yet another great reaction to a Nightwish song.
Enjoy ☺
Sorry the day hasn't been great. Glad you enjoyed the reaction. Hope the rest of the day is better.
@@ChaseCarneson Thank you I hope so too!🌷
@@ChaseCarneson I hope you have a great weekend so far
Gotta be my fave Nightwish song. Love it! It's full of so much longing and loss.
Ain't she a festival in and of herself?
Great detailed review. Nightwish version of Phantom of the Opera from End of an Era with Tarja and Marco's vocals are worth a listen.
Oh your face! It's really showing now how much fun you're having when just letting the music sink in. ❤️
Good songs with Tarja are Sleeping sun, Wanderlust and End of all hope
Edit: I forget Walking in the air. That one is better than sleeping sun.
the whole band really enjoys what they are doing ... makes for an enjoyable experience ..
they have never been happier
Such a great song and a nice reaction from you, thumbs up.
Nightwish with Tarja:
End of an Era concert:
- Sleeping Sun
- Nemo
- Phantom of the Opera
- or all from that concert ;)
Nightwish with Floor:
Wacken 2013 concert:
- every song you didn't react to yet ;)
One song with Marko - End of an Era - High Hopes(Pink Floyd cover)
You're face when Floor starts doing that belting beast mode... That was mine my first time 😂
Another great analysis. Man, I really enjoy your content. Such a deep, professional, expert strip down of these great songs. Thumbs up!
I see your back Chase with Nightwish. Couldn’t keep away for long eh 😉
He's been doing them every Saturday for a while now...
John Shanks I know I was joking
I love watching someone's reaction to nightwish, esp floor, when I know what's coming...and I loved your reaction AND your analysis. Great vid. 😎😎👍👍🤘🤘
Sleeping Sun with Tarja is beautiful, do that one please.
I love Tarja in The siren or in Sleeping sun☺️
Yes these two are among her majestic performances. I also love the original music video to Sleeping Sun. It's so...ethereal.
Sleeping Sun was the first Nightwish song i ever heard. I would love to see Chase's reaction.
Dude, you are the undisputed champ of dissection and detailed explanation. A joy to listen to!! Keep it up!
Much appreciated! Thank you for that.
Definitely checkout Tarja. I wish I had an angel or sleeping sun or Phantom of the opera are my suggestions for Tarja songs. Have a damn good day yourself friend!
Floor's Beste Zangers 2019 Phantom much preferred very impactful
I just love watching you! I have no more to say
Super reaction from you again, and you are spot on, on the details. Really nice 👍
And you are certainly right, a "plain" metal song like this, put through Tuomas's head - and out through Floor's phenomenal voice - removes the plain completely, and you get a Nightwish result that's just awesome.
YES!!! While Your Lips Are Still Red, Wembley 2016! Wonderful song. Beautifully done. :-) \m/
My two favorites with Tarja would be "Bless the Child" (still my favorite Nightwish song) and "Planet Hell". "The Siren" would be a close third.
As Epic as Poet, GLS and Greatest Show are, this is my favorite Nightwish clip on TH-cam. It's short and sweet and captures Floor's incomparable power as well as anything I've seen. Great reaction!
I can't wait for watch you to react to "The Greatest Show on Earth" live in Tampere
You should do "phantom of the opera " from end of an Era , that was Tarja's last show
TBh, I would prefer him doing a Nightwish sond with Tarja and not a cover :/
It's always the same with Floor, no matter how many videos I watch- she keeps topping herself. I mean I'm already a fan and she surprises me over and over again.
Thanks for your great, joyful and still chill reactions and comments. Among the best on TH-cam.
for tarja i would recommend Sleeping sun or phantom of the opera from End of an era concert(concert after which tarja got the letter)
You and The Charismatic Voice are the best reactors out there. Really nice job.
Maybe something with more Troy? How about I Want My Tears Back for the traditional Celtic instruments he uses, Dead Boy's Poem for guitar, or the Planet Rock acoustic session where he and Floor do How's The Heart? Or all three? :)
another great reaction, tnx chase. ur insight into music theory makes me listen in a different way, love that...
Marko and Floor singing "Ave Maria". It's a religious experience.
I recommend as Tarja songs Wishmaster and Dark chest of wonders from End of an era (also Pink floyd cover High hopes from same concert with Marco doing vocals) and for more Floor stuff Last ride of the day and Weak fantasy (from Tampere 2015)
Man, I love your videos! I hope you dive into their new album as well. But for now I think it's time for a story, it's STORYTIME!
Fantastic review! every time you do a Nightwish song I learn something new and I've heard these songs 100's of times. I love this song so much, and Floor just absolutely crushes the ending, So much power, and so much skill to control and manipulate that power. She is unmatched.
