The success of Ever Dream is to express pop sensibilities with the tools of metal: the sweet-but-plaintive guitar solo (which IIRC Emppu said is the one he's proudest of), the double kick drum to emphasize/glorify the final key-changed repeat of the chorus. This is the song that got my mom into metal. Now she listens to Volbeat while gardening.
This could easily be one of Nightwish's best concerts. Each song in itself is worthwhile reacting to. BTW, you did Romanticide, Song of myself and Storytime from this same concert. Love the detail and depth of your analyses.

In the last part when you stopped and explained the building of intensitiy and the kick ass drums. In the original version Marco supported Tarja in singing and Floor creates the effect of building and building on her own. And this makes exectly this moment so exceptional.

An find a way to make it sound epic. As far as listening to Tarja. My heart has to say. Phantom of the Opera. That's the song that introduced me to NIGHTWISH in 04. Been a fan ever since.
The song that got me hooked into nightwish with Tarja was Wish I Had An Angel, I would check out the album version. I prefer the album over her live performance, but that's my personal preference. Floor naturally does a killer job when she does wish I had an angel as well, but I get why you'd want to check out the other singers as well.
I just have to comment that it has been more than "pleasant" to watch you watch these Nightwish shows. You try to keep calm and stoic and then just can't help but smile and get excited over them. 😊 Thank you for sharing all the details for us common folks that appreciate Nightwish but don't have the professional wording to explain or understand all the geniusness of them. I think it's absolutely mindblowing, the things you hear and pick up listening to a song for the first time. I doubt there are many others that will be able to pick up the same details even after hearing it for a couple of times. And it's been said before but I will say it again, I don't think there is another reactor (is that a right word? Excuse my english, I'm Dutch) that brings the amount of depth and insight to a reaction-vid than you, Sir. Now I have a whole new approach to my journey. Every time I hear a song that I like (mostly Nightwish) I first listen to the "original" song, and then I go straight to your channel and see if I can find a reaction vid from you of that same song. And that takes listening to it to a whole new level. And then, Floor hitting those high notes and listening to you making it even better, FloorCHASm once again!

For example: at 2:20 that smile and quick look at the cam, I am like.... what?!? What did I miss? It's a clue that you already heard "something". You are able to pick that up from just listening to that once? Again, absolutely mindblowing. Omg finally someone noticed and appreciated double kick in the last two choruses. In my opinion it's the best part of the song perfectly culminating the build up through the whole piece.

This is one of Nightwish's earlier hit songs. Those ending chorus's are just breathtakingly powerful. For the most part a straight forward commercially oriented song with a great song structure. If you are interested you should listen to Tarja perform this song (original singer) to see how Floor has modified it to make it her own and also in my opinion make it much more impactful. I love Tarja's version, but Floor adds a heavier belting quality to everything she does from the older songs. Great job once again Chase! Love your attention to the musical nuances.
Your attention to detail, and the way you explain what you’re hearing in the songs structure, is exceptionally good. The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, from their show in Rio, is another excellent example of Marco and Floor playing off each other. A few Floor specific suggestions, would be from her appearance on Beste Zangers. Her ability to taking a song, making it her own and staying true to the feel of the original, is impressive.

Yet another great reaction to a Nightwish song. One of my favorite songs of theirs with multiple floorgasms to be had :-). But it was one of my favorites anyway because I love both the musical side, and the lyrical side and I'm not one that takes in the lyrics to that many songs but this one means something to me. I've seen someone suggest Phantom as one with Tarja singing and I would agree.

For Tarja, as others have said "phantom of the opera" from end of an era, and for me personally actually Ever Dream from the same show. They perform it a tad differently than they do here with Marko doing more harmonization during the last section of chorus. Get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Around 7:30 into the reaction you mention "the master lego-builder of music", construction and deconstruction of the song/music. That actually is what Floor does as well with her singing, BTW, and she always has, which is probably why she fits so well in the band. No idea if anybody mentioned this, couldn't find anything on it in the comments yet, but Floor is a self-confessed vocal tech-nerd and perfectionist with perfect control of her instrument and breathing, who not only knows how to use her voice as a multi-faceted instrument without doing damage to it, be it singing, belting, growling, cries, sliding or whatever, but she also knows how to creating emotion with her voice, and knows how to place parts precisely where they need to be, and also knows what the duration, trail-off etc. should be. This is why she could basically sing anything, but because of the many aspects of metal compared to other styles of music, prefers to sing metal. In case no one else mentioned it yet: at the age of 16 she started with her first band, which later became After Forever. After secondary school, she went on to study at the Rock Academy (3 yr study), followed by another 3-year study, musical theatre and classical singing. She also was a vocal teacher, until professional singing took away too much time and she could no longer continu with the teaching. She plays a few instruments too, flute, guitar and piano. I agree with the others on Gost River, but a really strong alternative should be: While your lips are still red, Wembley 2016 - a nice ballad where Troy is using an E-bow instead of the uilleann pipe - and Marko is lead with Floor as backing vocal!!! - and I believe it's Marko who has written the song as well. You are a gem Chase. Yet again and every time you do one of these I learn something, thank you, sincerely. Well, the whole Waken concert is out there, maybe later you can do the whole show. They're all bangers, trust me. :-) I needed this one after being rather wrecked by The Poet and the Pendulum, but that's quite normal for me. Emppu always uses an ESP and for some time now a Kemper modelling amp, it's both DI'd into the desk and fed to his 4 x 12 "beer and pick stand" on stage for feedback/sustain. I understand he spent quite some private studio time with a friend getting the program as he wanted it. Marko also plays through a Kemper when he uses his 6 string neck on the Warwick Infinity/Panthera twin neck which you'll hear on "Weak Fantasy" and have heard in "Islander". My very grateful thanks for connecting my old ears with the old brain. Again.

This is one of Nightwish's earlier hit songs. Those ending chorus's are just breathtakingly powerful. For the most part a straight forward commercially oriented song with a great song structure. If you are interested you should listen to Tarja perform this song (original singer) to see how Floor has modified it to make it her own and also in my opinion make it much more impactful. I love Tarja's version, but Floor adds a heavier belting quality to everything she does from the older songs. Great job once again Chase! Love your attention to the musical nuances.

The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, from their show in Rio, is another excellent example of Marco and Floor playing off each other.
A few Floor specific suggestions, would be from her appearance on Beste Zangers. Her ability to taking a song, making it her own and staying true to the feel of the original, is impressive.

Yet another great reaction to a Nightwish song.
One of my favorite songs of theirs with multiple floorgasms to be had :-). But it was one of my favorites anyway because I love both the musical side, and the lyrical side and I'm not one that takes in the lyrics to that many songs but this one means something to me.
I've seen someone suggest Phantom as one with Tarja singing and I would agree.

For Tarja, as others have said "phantom of the opera" from end of an era, and for me personally actually Ever Dream from the same show. They perform it a tad differently than they do here with Marko doing more harmonization during the last section of chorus. Get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Around 7:30 into the reaction you mention "the master lego-builder of music", construction and deconstruction of the song/music. That actually is what Floor does as well with her singing, BTW, and she always has, which is probably why she fits so well in the band.
No idea if anybody mentioned this, couldn't find anything on it in the comments yet, but Floor is a self-confessed vocal tech-nerd and perfectionist with perfect control of her instrument and breathing, who not only knows how to use her voice as a multi-faceted instrument without doing damage to it, be it singing, belting, growling, cries, sliding or whatever, but she also knows how to creating emotion with her voice, and knows how to place parts precisely where they need to be, and also knows what the duration, trail-off etc. should be. This is why she could basically sing anything, but because of the many aspects of metal compared to other styles of music, prefers to sing metal.
In case no one else mentioned it yet: at the age of 16 she started with her first band, which later became After Forever. After secondary school, she went on to study at the Rock Academy (3 yr study), followed by another 3-year study, musical theatre and classical singing. She also was a vocal teacher, until professional singing took away too much time and she could no longer continu with the teaching.
She plays a few instruments too, flute, guitar and piano.
If you'd like to study or react to different aspects of her voice, please do look at all of the songs she performed at Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from the Netherlands), in the order that she performed them. It really shows how grat and versatile she really is.

And you are certainly right, a "plain" metal song like this, put through Tuomas's head - and out through Floor's phenomenal voice - removes the plain completely, and you get a Nightwish result that's just awesome.
I agree with the others on Gost River, but a really strong alternative should be: While your lips are still red, Wembley 2016 - a nice ballad where Troy is using an E-bow instead of the uilleann pipe - and Marko is lead with Floor as backing vocal!!! - and I believe it's Marko who has written the song as well. That is beautiful, just beautiful.

I needed this one after being rather wrecked by The Poet and the Pendulum, but that's quite normal for me.
Emppu always uses an ESP and for some time now a Kemper modelling amp, it's both DI'd into the desk and fed to his 4 x 12 "beer and pick stand" on stage for feedback/sustain. I understand he spent quite some private studio time with a friend getting the program as he wanted it. Marko also plays through a Kemper when he uses his 6 string neck on the Warwick Infinity/Panthera twin neck which you'll hear on "Weak Fantasy" and have heard in "Islander".
My very grateful thanks for connecting my old ears with the old brain. Again.

I followed some of your earlier reactions and normally I don't send any comments, but I must compliment you on your excellent musical analyses of all those different elements in these big Nightwish numbers. It's such a complete band of great musicians, all of them. And you notice everything and understand and know it all, so great reaction !

Fantastic review! every time you do a Nightwish song I learn something new and I've heard these songs 100's of times. I love this song so much, and Floor just absolutely crushes the ending, So much power, and so much skill to control and manipulate that power. She is unmatched.
My two favorites with Tarja would be "Bless the Child" (still my favorite Nightwish song) and "Planet Hell". "The Siren" would be a close third.
