You can tell there is deep emotional meaning behind this song (for two reasons apparent InThis video) 1. The look on Emppu’s face at the end of the guitar solo, there is some raw emotion there 2. The tone of Floors voice when she says “Thank you” at the end. It is the same as when she said it at the Wembley version of Poet & The Pendulum. You can hear that it has touched her emotionally and that she has just been on the journey/story of the song at a deep and personal level. @@paulabernethy8396 1 and 2: Absolutely yes. Many reactors are wondering, why Emppu is not his typical joyful himself during that solo. Yes, raw emotions there, with almost tears in his eyes. If and when we are shaken to the bone listening that, just imagine what Emppu was feeling when playing that.
There's a fact that doesn't get noticed by all the people who reacts to nightwish. They're a band of friends enjoying and having fun playing, and that joy is feeled by the crowd.
Well, Emppu has been making music with Tuomas for 24 years now as Nightwish but, Emppu and Tuomas apparently went to school together... (I think music school) those guys are basically lifelong friends. Marco joined a bit after and those three form the solid core. Nightwish did shows opening for Marco's band Tarot a couple years before bringing him on as bassist so they've all been around each other for long time.
It's that passion and joy, for the music, for the fans, for playing together, that makes Nightwish so compelling. They just all seem to click and like each other. Given the length of many of their relationships, and the crazy long tours they do, that is amazing! Have I said that I adore Nightwish lately?!
I suffer from depression and anxiety, and I've been able to use their music as a sort of lifter and stabilizer. When I'm having a bad day, I use whatever song I need to change my mood. Nightwish is the band I end up using the most.
One of the things I really love about Emppu is that even when he plays the simple solos, you can tell he doesn't dismiss it as a "this is easy and boring" situation. He treats each solo as the piece of art that it is.
One of the most interesting things about this version of Dead Boy's Poem is that Floor does something pretty unique with her voice in it. Rather than switching between different vocal timbres for different verses or sections of the song, she almost continuously modifies her vocal configuration word to word and beat to beat so that she can smoothly ebb and flow between different sounds slowly building up the dynamic intensity all the way to the end of the song. It would be as if a guitarist were to continuously change the tuning of their guitar over the course of the song *while still playing it* the whole time. This approach does an amazing job at helping her tell the story of the song.
I agree. The Decades live album as a whole was very entertaining for how, not just Floor, but also the band approaches the old songs with a new arrangement. From '10th Man Down' to 'Come Cover Me', 'Deep Silent Complete', this one and 'Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean', each performance wasn't just a rehash of what's been, but a new thing altogether. 'Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean', for one, was one of the songs I was so glad to see Nightwish perform with Floor now because, honestly, that song was the song I skipped the most whenever Oceanborn was on. This rearrangement for 'Dead Boy's Poem' definitely was a highlight of the album - I already loved it when I first heard it in Wishmaster almost a decade ago, and was an example of what it means when we say Floor is versatile. And, to think, she was sick here lol
@@cainyourkids yeap, I had also fortgotten the song "DEvil and the Deep Dark Ocean" and I used to listen daily to the entire album on repeat!!!!! I got my mind blown when the new live version was released last year and I actually went back and listened to the original and I was like "'oh... that was that song? daamn...." :)
@@Wriwnas1 Yeah, like it wasn't that the original was boring or whatsoever, but it never really appealed to me, you know? I then checked out this new arrangement when Decades live album came out and it became one of my most replayed songs on Spotify for 2019 lol
@@jeffk1482 Right? Me listening to 'DatDDO' on Oceanborn for the first time: "oh it's cool. Not really my favorite, but it's a Nightwish song so there's a certain amount of love there." Me listening to the Decades live version of 'DatDDO': "WE WILL COME TO SET THE DOLPHINS FREEEEEEEEEE~"
If Floor would sing "terms and conditions" of a web page, that would be propably the only time people would actually pay attention to them, and at the end smash the "I agree" -box 😂
I quote a TH-cam comment (forgot who wrote it and under which video, sorry) "She could fart on a snare drum and I'd put it on repeat". That one had me cracking up
I am a 69 year old grandfather who has just recently discovered Nightwish. From the writing of the songs to the musicians in the band, everything is exceptional. And then there is Floor. Is she the most gifted singer I have ever heard? I have gone up in my 2 grandsons estimation, because I am a fan. Your reactions are first class. Thank you!
The Metal Mozart, The Viking, The Bard, The Electric Hobbit, The Human Metronome and last but not least The Valkyrie Goddess of Metal.... Master Musicians of Midgard... Hail Nightwish
I assume you're aware of Nightquest? The B side that writes the band as some form of Tolkien troup? Before the Metronome, the Viking and the Valkyrie were about though. Time for a Nightquest pt 2.
I have no training nor can I appreciate the intricate details of the sounds of Floors voice. I only know what her voice does to me. The Magical quality that I hear, the dynamic clear clean sound, the Intensity, and her ability to change in an instant the type of voice she is using. I do like to hear from someone who does know the details, and seems to be as impressed as I am.
That's why Emppu is the perfect guitarist for Nightwish. He's got the chops for when he needs them but, he's always served the song. This solo is practically identical to the album version from back in Wishmaster 20 years ago.
This song is beyond beautiful! I cried so much seeing Floor singing this song so close to me (about 3 or 4 meters). Actually, I cried the whole show...☺ It was definitely one of the most memorable moments of my life! This band is magical! ❤
@@Pamgiber Powerful, Beautiful, Becoming One with the Song. It is weird because I watch it more than Wacken. And the way she towers over her Brothers and her dancing on those high heels. Incredible
Need to add, as Chase noted is beautiful, Floor simply standing there with arms wide, pulling you into the instrumental interlude. What other woman has the power, magnetism, and heart to be so, so powerful and soft at the same time, and just be a magnetic siren simply standing there like a beacon?! Amazingingly so into the song that there is no ego in her stance but love and emotion and inviting the audience to come into the gathering maelstrom with her/them. NW finds yet another way to hold your heart. Floored.
@@Vainda , saw Nightwish at Minneapolis show, and in person, Floor really comes across with that unique blend of strength, power, grace, passion, joy, humility. It was a glorious and humbling experience to experience Nightwish live and up close!
Floor was getting over the flu and not 100% here, and still she is just outstanding. This song really rips at you and Floor takes it so she can squeeze your heart and stir your soul and if she didn't well then you are either dead or in a coma and it doesn't much matter. Hey enjoyed you and Julia on the Weak Fantasy and hope you duet with her again as that was really a great reaction and education!!!
This hits you in the feels... No matter how many times you hear this. Be it Tarja or Floor singing. This is a masterpiece and one of my favorite songs of all time. There is just something about this that hit me hard in 90's when it was released and still does to this day. Just brilliant.
I'm all in for getting them their due in the US! Found them 6 months ago, am now completely in love with Nightwish! Nothing like being a gushing fangirl, for the very first time in my life, at 50+! Talk about them ALL the time to family and friends. Trying to figure out how to see them if their postponed tour happens next year. NW opened a whole side of me I never knew existed, major fan for life!
Yes, Jesus Christ gave her that talent and voice, ....and the hardships to give her the strength to be in this position. She persevered in practice and endurance. What a woman.
@@m2duebbie Been a fan since 2008, and people do not want to give them a shot when I mention them. They are too stuck in their "country" or rap/hip hop to listen to something like Nightwish. If you think liking The Grand Ol Opry is having culture, you might be from Indiana.
I believe the greatest compliment any artist, in any medium, can have is when fans select multiple iterations (be they music, books, sculpture...whatever) of a creator's work. You'll hear "I like this one the best...I don't care for that one especially". And then the next person will say exactly the opposite. That's when you know you've connected with a wide audience and that you're not a one-shot wonder. Nightwish is a perfect example.
Thank you for this reaction. Haven't listen to this song for years and forgot how good it is actually. And I wanted to thank you in general. I rarely write comments but I enjoy every Nightwish reaction/analysis you do. Really appreciate it and you can learn and discover things I never would have noticed.
Since the song, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF ADVENTURE, is actually not a nightwish band song. TUOMAS wrote it for his wife and friend, so you can react to it any day. Right, enjoy all of your reaction.
Did you mean the song A Lifetime of Adventure from the album The Life and Times of Scrooge by Toumas? Or perhaps you meant the whole album which would be even better! That whole album is a pure master piece.
@RhinoVanDam Buy and read the book (compilation of a dozen comic stories linked together that detail a single imaginary lifetime) by Don Rosa, and it will enhance the music for you.
Sugar, spice and everything nice. These are the ingredients chosen to create a perfect YT reactor, but Professor TH-cam accidentally added an EXTRA INGREDIENT to the concoction: the PAUSE BUTTON. Thus, Chase Carneson was born.
Best comment I've read under any video on the platform in at least a week! Take this comment in lieu of the extra thumbs up I can't give you! Though I'd argue that these days John Wick would be a better fit than Bond. ;)
Yes, how do you describe Tuomas...he is above everyone on the planet today...he goes there with Mozart, Wagner, Beethoven and Sibelius...Nightwish never let you down, and the same goes with you...this was really nice...thank you.
I absolutely love when someone is playing the guitar, and you can hear their fingers brush along the strings. That and harmonics played on the frets give me chills.
One of my favorite Nightwish songs. I loved the original version, with Tarja. And I love the version with Floor. Both bring the emotion very good in their own way. You should hear the Tarja version one day. Not to compare, but just to hear how beautifully this song is with both singers.
...and considering this track is over 20 years old, shows just how mature Tuomas' songwriting abilities was already back in 2000. This track is one of the most haunting but at the same time the most beautiful I've ever heard still to this day. Simply amazing.
I appreciate your commentary on the instruments, so informative. I`ve been listening to Nightwish for over 15 years and still tear up at this song and many others even the harder ones. This is the perfect band every word in Tuomas`s songs are powerful!!
Can we just note how Emppu has not aged a bit? Doesn't matter if we're watching End of an Era, Wacken 2013 or Decades 2018, the man just stays the same. Would be lovely to see you react to some of his non-NW work, for example stuff he did with Brother Firetribe before stepping down earlier this year.
He`s getting some lines on his skin........ not getting old, just older........ Saw a photo of him (don`t remember where) with a moustache and beard ( not quite as Marko`s). Looked great!!
Nightwish Only three US cities in 2021 Lowell, MA 10-7-2021 Tickets on sale now. Let's sell out the place and give this band the US recognition it should have!
Somehow, some of the comments make me feel like this is an old boys (and gals) club, but that is a good thing, since I am 71. It shows the brilliance of NW music, which can truly be appreciated across the divide of several generations. Now that takes some doing. As always, thanks for the insight you bring Chase. Pauses don't bother me. I just go back to the original version and listen with deeper understanding.
Have you ever noticed how beautiful people are when the do something they love? Look at them doing just that, being happy, being authentic, being so beautiful that it hurts!
Thanks Chase. Your reaction to and analysis of Nightwish songs is a highlight of my week. Helps me as a non-musician understand better why I love this band so much. Keep on keeping on. 😁
"Born from silence, silence full of it" In the studio version (Tarja's), this first lead lines are sung a capella, in complete silence apart from Tarja's voice, as the text tells us.
❤ la voz de Tarja Turunen es puro sentimiento y emoción lloras porque ella siente e interpreta la canción de manera magistral, floor pop jansen está interesada en sonar bien
@patricicurrais687 That's so not true, Floor needs singing to let out her emotions, that's why she doesn't like the current long pause from touring they took. Which doesn't mean she doesn't want to sound good of course. It's necessary to want people to listen to you.
I have never seen a band put so much care in the arrangement performance visualization presentation it is at a level beyond anything I have ever seen or heard
The only song that is able to make me feel happy and sad at the same time. Masterpiece! This is one of the most underrated songs. I would love you to react to "come, cover me", "the carpenter" or "gethsemane" from Buenos Aires or "Alpenglow" from Wembley. All seems to be second row songs for most reactors, but they are just great songs to listen to.
Like Floor sais on the live recording, "this song, this song just makes you feel great" "this song will kick you right into it"... I LOVE Alpenglow!!!!!!! Come cover me ofc is close to my heart since the moment that album came out and I 1st listened to it... And the other 2 are fantastic like almost all Nightwish songs :)
"She could sing the phone book and I'd listen" .... with Tuomas as the composer for the music, it would go down in history as one of the greatest songs of all time! In my opinion, and I know many will hate me for the following, this performance is one of the best examples that Floor has so much more ability in telling stories and adding a certain mood to a song with her voice than the previous singers had. Don't get me wrong, Tarja did a great job on the original and it was one of my favorites from the Album back then, but this one here speaks a lot more to me.
I hadn't thought of it like that before. Now that you've mention it, I realize that I always prefer the Floor version of the most storydriven songs. When I was a kid, my parents used to read to me. My mom would read the story beautifully, but my dad used his voice to really build the tension, or brought comfort when appropriate to the story. I feel like that's the difference you're describing here.
I've loved nightwish since 2000. This song originally is from the Tarja era. (Love you, Tarja!) I had tried several times to get a chance to see nightwish live in those days with Tarja but things never worked out for me. Anyway, Dead boy's poem always gave me emotions. (Amoung others) Then, one fateful day, I nabbed a VIP ticket for Decades, and was overcome as I've already loved both Nightwish and Floor (Floor in after forever). See, My momma showed me Nightwish as a teenager, and I was entranced since that day. My mom and dad both passed away in 2013. Ma and I were supposed to see Nightwish live. together... but things never worked out. Obviously in 2018, it didn't happen that I was able to bring her in much more than spirit or heart. hearing Floor sing this song live literally just took hold of my entire heart and I cried as I sang along. They changed the harmonies, and other such things to fit the line up as well as the vocals, but Floor just has this way of hitting you, emotionally, when the music already has you stunned. These are brilliant, incredible, and empathic individuals who Excell at their talent/craft. I am a fan til my death.
Ohhh noooo, is he going to listen Dead Boy’s Poem...? Does he dare... O m g... he is going in... no way back... nothing can save Chase now... after this mind altering experience he should join the ranks in the Nightwish Army as Chief of the Reaction staff...
A cup of coffee, a cool evening breeze and Chase's reactionalysis over one of my favorite Nightwish songs. It's a damn great Saturday night on my end of the world. :) Also, Chase, perhaps you've checked out Epica's Abyss of Time? Edit: Nice of you to catch Tuomas during the first 'chorus'. If you noticed across the Nightwish songs you've reacted to, every mention of a 'dead boy' or 'poet', or variation thereof, is Tuomas talking about himself. :)
If anyone ever wants to know what Nightwish is all about, the answer to the question is without doubt buried within this song. Firstly, the song explains the "Dead boy" theme, which is a recurring theme in Nightwish songs referring to the innocence and sense of wonder, Tuomas lost when he ceased being a boy and grew up to be a man. A lot of songs directly explore this theme in their lyrics (the most direct examples would be Dark Chest of Wonders, For the Heart I once had, and I want my Tears back) while some others directly mention "dead boy" in their lyrics, usually in a self-deprecating way like in Song of Myself ("[...] just another dead boy's song.") The lyrics of this song beautifully describe Tuomas' entire approach to songwriting (for example the line "sweet piano, writing down my life." as well as "sing what you can't say, forget what you can't play.") while also giving us a glimpse into his general mindset while the instrumentation also shows off a wide range of the band's skillset. So in a sense, Dead Boy's Poem is THE Nightwish song because it is the most representative for everything the band does and stands for while also providing a key to unlocking a lot of other song's lyrics. If you don't know this song, you will just gloss over a song's lyrics mentioning "dead boy" but if you know it, you will always perk your ears and listen closely whenever the lyrics mention the term "dead boy." Equipped with this knowledge, it would only be fitting to tackle one of the "dead boy's songs" next. Maybe Dark Chest of Wonders from the end of an era live concert with Tarja.
Dead boy’s poem was the first Nightwish song I heard. Think it was back in 2001 or 2002. Fell in love with the band and have been a die hard fan since.
i went into this video having heard this song countless times. i didnt think you'd catch anything i hadnt already. and then chase goes off and says "bit of a horn section coming in" so i went back and ill be damned, theres a horn section. well done chase. just one of the many reasons i love your videos
I've heard this band for decades. They just keep getting better, the and the older music holds up remarkably well. As always, a hearty thumbs up for Chase.
Can't wait for this (beautiful) one ! Suggestion for a little bit of Floor in a different way: Areyon, "The day the world brakes down", or "Valley of the queens".
this song and the whole wishmaster album owes so much to stratovarius and the whole power metal genre and I'm so happy Tuomas decided to go in this direction because it was amazing, Oceanborn and Wishmaster are great albums
I think who doesn't get enough credit is the genius on the sound board that brings the levels up and down on the different instruments with perfect timing and rate.

Dead Boys Poem is song where Tuomas asks forgiveness for people who he had hurt. He said that it is not easy for finnish man to ask forgineness... I agree with that. 😉 The boy who is doing spoken word is son of british movie director (who lives in Finland 🇫🇮) Neil Hardwick. Tuomas wanted to have a boy who speaks english as a native.

@@cainyourkids Same!
@@jeffk1482 Right?
Me listening to 'DatDDO' on Oceanborn for the first time: "oh it's cool. Not really my favorite, but it's a Nightwish song so there's a certain amount of love there."
Me listening to the Decades live version of 'DatDDO': "WE WILL COME TO SET THE DOLPHINS FREEEEEEEEEE~"

Thank you!
And I thought that I was one of Nightwish's older fans at 64 years old!
Nope my dad’d 78 and loves Nightwish!
The Metal Mozart, The Viking, The Bard, The Electric Hobbit, The Human Metronome and last but not least The Valkyrie Goddess of Metal.... Master Musicians of Midgard... Hail Nightwish
🤣🤣the electric hobbit.....🤣🤣🤣again tears but now because of laughter 🤣🤣🤣
I assume you're aware of Nightquest? The B side that writes the band as some form of Tolkien troup? Before the Metronome, the Viking and the Valkyrie were about though. Time for a Nightquest pt 2.
Electric hobbit >.< :D
This was the best 😂
hands down, this is the BEST description of Nightwish I've ever seen
I have no training nor can I appreciate the intricate details of the sounds of Floors voice. I only know what her voice does to me. The Magical quality that I hear, the dynamic clear clean sound, the Intensity, and her ability to change in an instant the type of voice she is using. I do like to hear from someone who does know the details, and seems to be as impressed as I am.
That's why Emppu is the perfect guitarist for Nightwish. He's got the chops for when he needs them but, he's always served the song. This solo is practically identical to the album version from back in Wishmaster 20 years ago.
It was my fav song of that album, was it Oceanborn?
@@mjoezic3198 this song was on Wishmaster.
“Just Nightwish doing Nightwish things.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Quote of the day😄
Hopeful sadness, brilliant description
This song is beyond beautiful! I cried so much seeing Floor singing this song so close to me (about 3 or 4 meters). Actually, I cried the whole show...☺
It was definitely one of the most memorable moments of my life! This band is magical! ❤
You were there! How cool!! 😃
@@mjoezic3198 wasn't this show specifically. I was in the previous one that took place in Brazil 2 days before that.
Wow,to stand so close to her,the Goddess..
@@eddiecreutzburg7375I couldn't stop looking at her! She is absolutely Majestic and looked like a valkyrie warrior in that outfit. A real goddess!
Floored.
Beautiful bro.... Her dark silhouette against the bright background... a true Goddess of Music
That combination is breathtaking!
I know im late but dang you took the words out of my mouth, very nice worded.
@@Vainda , saw Nightwish at Minneapolis show, and in person, Floor really comes across with that unique blend of strength, power, grace, passion, joy, humility. It was a glorious and humbling experience to experience Nightwish live and up close!
i think tou didn't seen Them with Tarja to see more natural ; Floor it's fake
Floor was getting over the flu and not 100% here, and still she is just outstanding. This song really rips at you and Floor takes it so she can squeeze your heart and stir your soul and if she didn't well then you are either dead or in a coma and it doesn't much matter. Hey enjoyed you and Julia on the Weak Fantasy and hope you duet with her again as that was really a great reaction and education!!!
Ah ..... that explains the light quiver in her (very) low register which she usually aces. Still better than most singers though.
This hits you in the feels... No matter how many times you hear this. Be it Tarja or Floor singing. This is a masterpiece and one of my favorite songs of all time. There is just something about this that hit me hard in 90's when it was released and still does to this day. Just brilliant.
Usually it's Floor's delivery that makes me cry like a baby. It isn't usually just a guitar 🤣
Jesus Christ the emotions in Floor's voice, shame that this band is not more popular here in NA.
Let’s make it popular there as well...
Biggest band in Finland, here they are so well known and even all the kids probably know them :D
I absolutely love Emppu's heartfelt solo in this song, feels like a knife through my chest every time.
YOU CAN TELL BY HIS EXPRESSIONS HE IS QUITE SERIOUS ABOUT IT
I’m pretty sure he’s crying while playing his solo.
This song has one of my favorite lyrics of all time
Sing what you can't say
Forget what you can't play
Yes.....so beautiful
"If you read this line Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse"
Quote from shakespeare's sonnet lxxi
@@swerasnym yes, that's right. I would enjoy that.
Don't mind me, I'm just adding my usual request for A Lifetime of Adventure here. Carry on.
That is a great song. Would love to hear what Chase thinks about it.

This is one of Tuomas's greatest compositions, and one of Floor's best emotional story-telling performances - second only, IMO, to PATP.
As I mention should go down in a must hear quartet with GLS, Poet and GSOE. 🤘🤘🤘🤘. Magnificent piece of music - especially this version.
As i have said before this song should be added to the BIG 3 just as great as those just not as long Nothing wrong with having a BIG 4
Thanks for taking the tome to watch and comment. Really does mean a lot .
This is one of a few NW songs that kicks me square in the feels, every single time I hear it.
Somewhere there is a painting of Emppu slowly ageing in the attic...
He`s getting some lines on his skin........ not getting old, just older........ Saw a photo of him (don`t remember where) with a moustache and beard ( not quite as Marko`s). Looked great!!
Floor can sing the Chinese phone book backwards and it would sound great...
I mean, she's in for challenges. We should probably suggest that to her. lol
Don't worry mate, they aren't the only ones who hit it out of the park!!!.... and congrats on the collab, it was nice, you two work well together.
Nightwish Only three US cities in 2021 Lowell, MA 10-7-2021 Tickets on sale now. Let's sell out the place and give this band the US recognition it should have!
3 cities what a travesty
She doesn't so much sing as she makes love to the music.
"just Nightwish doing Nightwish things". what a perfect way to describe the situation!
If Chase reacted to a phone book I would watch!
One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard 😍 can’t wait
I just realized why they're called Nightwish: because they sound hopeful and sad... they are a Wish in the Night! :)
Criminally underrated song. Leaves me alone with my thoughts every single time I listen to it.
“Never sigh for a better world - it’s already composed, played and told.”
This Amazon queen's got some regal chops. Oh god, I love her so much.
This is Nightwish' version of "The Stairway To Heaven"! Floor nails this song with a haunting, hypnotic and vocal masterpiece.
And did I mention...she did during a live performance.
"Born from silence, silence full of it"
In the studio version (Tarja's), this first lead lines are sung a capella, in complete silence apart from Tarja's voice, as the text tells us.
Oh, if you do The Carpenter, make it a double reaction - live from Buenos Aires and also the studio version, just for the fun of hearing Tuomas sing!
What a great way to describe this song.
Yes, yes and yes!
How about 10th man down?
@@JWildberry Yeah, that's a pretty good example. Not just having the tools but also know when and how to use them.
I've loved nightwish since 2000. This song originally is from the Tarja era. (Love you, Tarja!)
I had tried several times to get a chance to see nightwish live in those days with Tarja but things never worked out for me.
Anyway, Dead boy's poem always gave me emotions. (Amoung others)
Then, one fateful day, I nabbed a VIP ticket for Decades, and was overcome as I've already loved both Nightwish and Floor (Floor in after forever).
Troy and Marco jamming together on the second part of the song makes this so much better
I love Floor and Nightwish, and this is one of my favorite songs, and Tarja's versions is also fantastic.
You are a consummate pauser. You identify the brilliance , your pauses have depth and intelligence. Lyrically this is a masterpiece., an open vein.
Nice one Mark. Appreciate that 🙏
Tuomas is extraordinary!
Ohhh noooo, is he going to listen Dead Boy’s Poem...? Does he dare... O m g... he is going in... no way back... nothing can save Chase now... after this mind altering experience he should join the ranks in the Nightwish Army as Chief of the Reaction staff...
He should.
16:29 you paused it just in time, look how she shines. Just a perfect pause. :)
The point on Tuomas's composing skills: you don't know where they will go, but when they go there it is always right. Yes, exactly!
And finally, there it is. I have been waiting the reaction for this one!
A cup of coffee, a cool evening breeze and Chase's reactionalysis over one of my favorite Nightwish songs. It's a damn great Saturday night on my end of the world. :)
Also, Chase, perhaps you've checked out Epica's Abyss of Time?
A lot of songs directly explore this theme in their lyrics (the most direct examples would be Dark Chest of Wonders, For the Heart I once had, and I want my Tears back) while some others directly mention "dead boy" in their lyrics, usually in a self-deprecating way like in Song of Myself ("[...] just another dead boy's song.")
The lyrics of this song beautifully describe Tuomas' entire approach to songwriting (for example the line "sweet piano, writing down my life." as well as "sing what you can't say, forget what you can't play.") while also giving us a glimpse into his general mindset while the instrumentation also shows off a wide range of the band's skillset.
So in a sense, Dead Boy's Poem is THE Nightwish song because it is the most representative for everything the band does and stands for while also providing a key to unlocking a lot of other song's lyrics. If you don't know this song, you will just gloss over a song's lyrics mentioning "dead boy" but if you know it, you will always perk your ears and listen closely whenever the lyrics mention the term "dead boy."
Equipped with this knowledge, it would only be fitting to tackle one of the "dead boy's songs" next. Maybe Dark Chest of Wonders from the end of an era live concert with Tarja.
He already did Song of Myself which also has references to Dead Boy's Poem
Dead boy’s poem was the first Nightwish song I heard. Think it was back in 2001 or 2002. Fell in love with the band and have been a die hard fan since.
Yesssssss finally! It is sooooo good!
I’ll prepare myself for: if only my heart had a home, chillllls.

"Stop!" Dont stop,!Love that 😍 Tuomas IS genius ❤️
He’s a magician that’s for sure.
"I feel very calm." Yeah, *15 minutes after bawling my eyes out at the "A lonely soul/An ocean soul" part* me too.
With Tarja it's best version
I've heard this band for decades. They just keep getting better, the and the older music holds up remarkably well. As always, a hearty thumbs up for Chase.
It's always cool when the audience is turned into an additional musical instrument.
Tuomas is Beethoven in this time.
Forget the world, my mind and body lives in this song
Can't wait for this (beautiful) one !
Suggestion for a little bit of Floor in a different way: Areyon, "The day the world brakes down", or "Valley of the queens".
this song and the whole wishmaster album owes so much to stratovarius and the whole power metal genre and I'm so happy Tuomas decided to go in this direction because it was amazing, Oceanborn and Wishmaster are great albums
I think who doesn't get enough credit is the genius on the sound board that brings the levels up and down on the different instruments with perfect timing and rate.
Floor leaves me speechless in this every time ❤️ this band is just outstanding!!!
Chase, thank you. You are my favorite reviewer by far. Your knowledge and skill to break down the finer parts of music is appreciated. Your love of music enriches my own. You appreciate Tuomous's composition and arrangement skills; the artful musicianship of Nightwish as a band, and then there is the otherworldly Floor. Seeing Nightwish live is on my bucket list. I am 67, have been a fan of Nighwish for 8 years. Probably my favorite band.

Great reaction Chase, this song gets me every time, the child's voice is far more pronounced in the studio recording but the atmosphere it provides is incredible. This was a special performance and you brought extra depth to it as usual 🙏
Just Nightwish doing Nightwish things. Love that coment. kkk
Can’t wait for this. Such a great song and Floor does an amazing job as always at delivering the emotions of this song ❤️❤️❤️
Dead Boys Poem is song where Tuomas asks forgiveness for people who he had hurt. He said that it is not easy for finnish man to ask forgineness... I agree with that. 😉
The boy who is doing spoken word is son of british movie director (who lives in Finland 🇫🇮) Neil Hardwick. Tuomas wanted to have a boy who speaks english as a native.
The words to this song make it a total "tear jerker" as we say in Texas!!! This is just one brilliant composition and the music is amazing! And of course Floor is freaking amazing! At 63 years old...I thought I had heard just about every genre of rock n roll and heavy metal! Then...this time last year...I heard Nightwish.....mind blown! If this was as US group....they would be mega stars! Me...I have started collecting every Nightwish album I can get my hands on! I just got the double CD and Blue Ray DVD...and I am looking up the lyrics to all the songs..just so I can understand the meaning of the song!
Bravo Nightwish!!!
Having seen them on the end of an era tour, and hearing Tarja sing this song. I love this version so much, this song is filled with so much emotion . And how the 3 singers have made the songs their own. Really showcases how well these songs are written and performed. Love and seen all 3 lead singers this band has had, and can't wait to see them once the world goes back to normal

I'd love to hear Tuomas' orchestration of the phone book.
Just wanted to thank you for appreciating more than just Floor with Nightwish. Yes she is literally a goddess but the rest of the band is equally as impressive. I have been a fan of Marco's since 2003 when I first discovered them and their album Century Child. He is amazing and no matter who fronted the band, the rest of the members have always been the heart of the music.
She did sing the phone book. And killed it.
"... and than you go off course... of course' Brilliant comment, loved it again Chase, as always
