Queen absolutely ARE the greatest rock band of all time. I definitely agree. ❤
The a cappella intro (four heads) is only Freddie singing each harmony. Since this is one of your favorites I suggest you watch "Inside The Rhapsody", a short documentary on the making of the song. Thanks.

This statement is not true. You can clearly hear Rodger Taylor’s soprano, and Brian May’s tenor vocals. If you listen closely to all Queen songs, you will hear a strong support from Rodger Taylor.
In the documentary, "Inside the Rhapsody" (Queen Official), Brian clearly states the opening harmonies are all sung by Freddie and plays the backing harmonies without the lead vocal which is cool to hear.
That’s incorrect, each band member can sing and did so throughout the song. In the seventies, they started playing with the production of the music but the vocals were not tampered with.
You probably already know this, but just in case you don't, you might find it interesting/surprising: Brian May is also an astrophysicist and was a university chancellor. In case you think I'm making this up, lol:

Great reaction-- and you're on the money when you mention how off-rock genre the song is. I've read that Freddie Mercury called it a "mock opera," and others call it a "rock opera" or "operatic rock." Whoda thunk--as you said-- it would've even gotten played, let alone that it would be one of the most popular, famous and loved of all rock songs of all time?

I have seen a lot of reactions to this and I particularly appreciated your comments about the ending. The way the ending echoes the beginning but with all the added motifs. Also the calming of the chaos but still retaining elements of it. I think all this is thanks to Freddie's interest
in classical music and the way it is constructed.

This song is considered by many to be the 1990s counterpart to "Bohemian Rhapsody", and the animated music video did receive a Moniter Award for Best Achievement in Music Video.
Nobody was doing videos at that time yet. Queen made this video because they were going on tour and would be out of the country. The number 1 song was always featured with the band on Top Of The Pops (Britain's music television show and the only place to showcase your music) but Queen would be in another country on tour so they made a video for TOTP to play in their stead, There were no music videos for promotion yet, Queen ended up being the trailblazers.
I agree they are the greatest. 15 year old me was lucky enough to see Queen in Toronto with Freddie (The Game tour) and they were even better live than you can imagine. Only one other band comes close, I consider them the 2nd greatest band and as they came before Queen, Freddie was a huge fan. That band is The Who (have seen them live 3 times). They managed to pull off a ten minute interconnected group of small songs into one glorious number called The Mini Opera in the mid 60’s. They were the first to get away with this. Like Queen they were a mix of an amazing singer (Roger Daltry) & three of the best musicians alive. John Entwhistle on bass was the strong, silent type & kept them grounded. Keith “the loon” Moon was a legendary drummer and over the top personality who often destroyed his drum kit (the biggest in music at the hit of their fame). Unfortunately Keith died much too young from too much fun. Finally there is the musical genius & guitar legend known as Pete Townsend. He wrote most of the sons, played multiple instruments, produced, arranged and invented quadraphonic sound technology so he could make the music sound the way it was in his head. This lead to their second rock opera, Quadraphonia, a brilliant album. Tommy was their first.

I grew up as a metal head listening to Ozzy, Metallica, Iron Maiden etc. an queen was to soft for me. As I got a bit older and started playing guitar and some piano it sort of opened my palette to other music and I had a new found respect for

No worries. Yeah most official music videos get blocked. Or if you dispute it it can take a long time to get unblocked. So to avoid that and continue to put on content timely for you all, I just cover it.
No other band can pull this off..you said Rush but I have to disagree..only Queen can pull this off ...no other else because it was written by Freddie Mercury..I think no other band can cross the opera and rock together except Queen, they were brave and bold enough to do this genre and I think some bands have follow through,not so sure..
Queen is awesome but Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever....
