Lotus (i.e., 莲 /Lian/) in Chinese pronounces like "lit", so he repeats "I'm the 莲（/lian/), I'm lit..."
In Chinese culture, Lotus represents purity -- it grows in the muddy pond but lotus flowers are so pure and beautiful. His rising up from dark water is also symbolic of this.
The fight is responding to haters who faked news about him, who laughed at him when he said he wants to bring M-pop to the world, who looked down on him because he's hardworking, etc. -- He is not afraid of them and no one can stop him from realizing his dream and achieving his goal. He was krumping wearing a mask with needles because haters can say whatever they want from behind the computers but he cannot diss back. But krumping (and other types of dances and music of course) allows him to express his emotions in a powerful but non-violent way.
There are two sides of lotus, of him and of everything in the world -- he lives and works with integrity like lotus but also with power like a dragon.

Even in India (my state idk about others) , lotus is a symbol of purity , even though it grows in the mud, it's unstained by the mud which means that whatever bad things happened, it remains pure and unstained by the world's dirty things(dk how to explain)
Lit is actually wordplay, it means Lotus in Chinese so he's actually saying he's a Lotus which means he is pure and is invincible in defence to the haters that call him white lotus which they define as pretending to be a victim.

The MV was filmed at Zhejiang Hengdian World Studios in China, the world’s largest outdoor film studio, More than 100 background actors were involved in the scene. The production company that made the effects for the Lit MV is Dexter Studios. This is the first time that they have produced an MV, as they usually make movies, such as the Oscar-winning “Parasite”.Reportedly, Yixing spent up to 10 million RMB (1.4 million USD) on the music video.
It is clear in the credits of the MV that Yixing worked hard, being involved in all the processes during the creation of the video.

•Lay released his semi-autobiographical book “Independent 24” or "Standing firm at 24 " and spoke about the Dragon in this book he said he always felt that there is a Dragon inside him Who help him ,so I think he is referring to him in the MV and The dragon is helping him to fight the enemies.
•regarding the lotus the haters call him white lotus which mean fake and that he claims innocence but he is not Yes yes they are stupid ,So I think he is responding to them coz in chinese culture lotus means purity , it grows in the mud but it doesn't get dirty
•also the mv is based on Xiang Yu's life story (Chinese warrior) and the battle of Gaixia where he was defeated and he committed suicide at the bank of the Wu River.
• in the intro he played the song Gaixia which is a traditional Chinese poem about the battle of Gaixia
there are alot of things in the MV and I know I missed alot of things for example I don't know what he means by the witch maybe he reffers to Xiang Yu's girlfriend that commited suiced also ,but I don't think so , I'll try to watch the MV more so I can understand and catch everything. Lay is not a rapper. In this video he is not rapping, he's rather saying his lyrics as bold statements backed by striking movements. He is a dancer. He has trained as a dancer since school age, and he's extremely precise and almost arrogant in his dance today. His professionalism in dance stems from his training, practicing, invention and imagination. He's a perfectionist.
But his musical career besides dance is his vocal career. He sings so beautifully, and can have a softer side in singing compared to his hard tones of dance. Lotus in Chinese culture is a good plant that always keep clean and pure even it grow in mud.
In China,Lay's antis call him "white lutos ",which satirizes they think lay is fake and they hate him. But Lay accepted this anti word and made it a song to tell everyone hate him that he is a king of music, he will keep going to do what he wants to do, and he can lead m-pop.
2.The characters in the MV is about a real historical hero named Xiangyu. Lay''s song JADE and HORSE also connected with this hero. Lay may think he like Xiangyu, a man who fight alone to the end against all people hate him.
3. Some Chinese fans found that this vedio is connected to NAMANANA and obsession, the lay wears black mask may be the X-lay.

Lay splurged his own money into his solo works. SM did nothing. This mv alone costs over 1.5 million usd and took 6 months, hundreds of people involved in this production.
SM did lack on promoting him but I think they won't put SM's logo on the video if they didn't contribute even a little. There's still a korean team working behind this as well as the chinese team of Lay. I must say this is a collaborative effort but most of the works still comes from Lay.

SM did nothing for this album production. Lay need to afford all the money but still need to give the profit to SM. The reason Lay put the SM logo on the mv is due to the Chinese law to avoid any conflict because he still the ambassador of the government.

This MV was based off of Yixings (Lays) favorite Chinese historical figure. A Chinese general named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. The background music you hear in the beginning is called “The Song Of Gaixia” which Xiang Yu composed for his wife Lady Yu (lays song Jade) who later took her own life. The MV is the portrayal of Xiang Yus entrapment by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife Consort Yu.

Some background about the "opera character" appear in this MV, he's a famous overlord(西楚霸王) in China history, Xiang Yu(项羽) (232-202 BC).
What Lay playing/acting in his MV, I think it's the last battle of Xiang Yu(项羽), he lead army of Chu(100,000) versus army of Han(400,000), Xiang Yu(项羽) lost and retreat to the Dark River(乌江) with 800 men. He could have cross the river and comeback later, but he refused and fight. At last, he cut his throat with his own sword.
He left a poetry before he died (which is the teaser song)

The first half of this album consist of 6 songs which represents the previous life and all songs uses some chinese instruments in it. 🔥 There will be second half of the album which will represents the current or future life. The whole album is so great you guys have to listen to all of it!
Lay has always been proud about his roots and his ultimate goal is to make C-POP a popular genre across the world. This time round he his releasing his album in two parts the first one contains music like LIT that combines traditional chinese music with experimental music and that's why it's unique and the second part contains trendy music style.
Throughout the years Lay been called many names by haters like SHEEP as he is acting so innocent and almost silly but he's in fact faking it and Lotus as it symbolises purity to imply that he's acting pure and in fact evil and cunning. What Lay did is embodying these names and making them his own. He has released a song called sheep before (you should really check it out) and now he released Lotus (lotus in chinese is pronounced LIT hence the eng title so you can say it is a pun 😂). The lyrics are really strong and in one of them he says "I'm the lotus, the lotus that lives in the silt but not imbrued" and it's his way to reply to all those haters.
The MV was produced by the same company that produced the movie Parasite and many other great korean movies. That's why the scale is huge.

1.The pronunciation of LIT is similar to lotus in Chinese (莲，lian)，and there are many lotus flowers in the lyrics and the music video. The lotus represents the purity and beauty in Chinese culture, because it grows up in a dirty environment and remains pure. In the MV, there is also a scene in which the lotus appears from the black but is still white. What's more, the lyrics also have words about lotus.
2.This song was inspired by Xiang Yu(项羽）, an ancient Chinese hero with many legends. After losing the battle, he refused to run away. His lover YuJi (虞姬）suicide after singing a farewell song for him( which is the opera at the beginning of the MV). Xiang yu later committed suicide. In the MV, LAY and Xiang Yu are surrounded by soldiers, as if they're talking through time and space.This year is also the 2222 anniversary of xiang yu's death.What's more, the 'Jade' in the album is written from yu ji's point of view.
The video cost nearly TWO MILLION dollars, and there were a lot of details I didn't mention.
