  • Hello and welcome
In this episode I continue with bulkhead, floor and inner wing work on this very nice and tidy - but 29 year old - Range Rover Classic 300TDI softdash.
Driver side repairs are slightly more involved than you might have expected.
The car is in for phase 2 of works which was originally to sort some minor issues and also have a look at all the usual mudtrap / rot spots and assess.
    loads of fun
    Enjoy

Your welding looks very neat these days 🙂

Why thank you, all credit to my Oxford welder I think.

I find turbo hoses have a coating of oil mainly from sucking the oil vapours from the engine breathers.

Good access when welding is always a bonus.chap I worked with years ago had his mini up on the ramp and was happily welding a cover sill in place but what he didn't realise was that he had blown a hole through the floor and set fire to the seat.when I appeared and pointed this out to him panic ensued on his behalf.
He was gas welding and bugger me if I did exactly the same thing 5 years later putting sills on my triumph 2000.
Seat foam absolutely stinks when it burns 😂.

Intercoolers are supposed to be flushed out with thinners or petrol every so often and then dried out before refitting. The breather system dumps a lot of oil vapour into the induction system.
Aircon…. Evaporation causes cooling (pour ethanol into your hand and see), so the cooling heat exchanger in the dash box is the evaporator.
I don’t think any D2 had Tdi from the factory. I hesitate to say I’m certain, but I’m quite confident that most were TD5 and all of the others V8. Some late 300Tdis had an electronic throttle referred to as EDC, and one of the injectors had a sensor connected to the throttle ECU. This was used on 300Tdi Discovery automatics, but I think that was developed after the end of the RRC.

    Great videos as usual Richard.
You must have covered most places that a rr classic rots, except above the windscreen.
If you can manage to cover this before next spring,it’ll be most helpful 😁

The windscreen top rail pre 1986 is a bolt on job, post 1986 it is the same panel but welded in. replacement is pretty much always the easiest method. Drop me an email if you need more info

I'm not a Disco man, but my understanding is that the fly by wire pumps were fitted to the automatic Discos. Engines with those pumps on are fairly cheap because they cannot be retro fitted into Series vehicles. I'm guessing they cannot be fitted because the fly by wire needs various sensors and maybe a (simple?) ECU. I don't know, I'm just guessing that bit. Would your bits supplier (Tim?) know?

Cruse control on my 1991 v8 3.9 is cable operated I dont see how it would not work on the softdash you have there so long as you have a vacuum source.

easy way to remember if you fart in a car it evaporates therefore the Evaporator is in the car and the Condenser is in front of the engine and condenses your farts under the hood. SIMPLE.
This may sound silly but you will never forget.🤧🤧🤧

On the late disco 1 it was fly by wire, they came as standard. My feeling is that if Land Rover couldn't do it.......
