Seven brides for seven brothers was my mum’s favourite movie . I think the dance scene in that movie was one of best dance scenes ever ! Jane was a beautiful lady and a great singer . Thank you for the wonderful memories Jane .
I am commenting because I was watching Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and Jane Powell was in it, portraying a lady with Alzheimers (her last performance, 2002). So I looked her up and found out she only passed away a couple of years ago. I won't pretend to be some kind of mega fan, or a connoisseur of her work, but her performance impressed me enough to come and pay respects. Rest in peace.
The tragic ones are suicides, illness and accidents. Deaths that are avoidable with many more years to live. But the resurrection is the promise given in the Bible. The dead are unconscious till that time. Ecclesiastes 9:5
@@arielsea9087 i thought when we died we went to the presence of the lord, awaiting until the resurrection. And unbelievers go to a place without God (hell) with self pity and self inflicted suffering away from any presence of good. Until the resurrection and lake of fire
You got it! They always use the caption, the sad Ending of or the tragic life of, etc. Jane Powell lived a long life and had a successful career, what is sad about that!🤔
Royal Wedding where she plays Fred Astaire’s sister and dance partner (in an echo of Adele Astaire, Fred’s older sister and childhood Broadway partner).
In an interview with Robert Osborn about "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" a member of the audience asked her what her favorite role was and she answered "Two Weeks With Love" because it is a period film. "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" may have been her most popular film, but her favorite film.
She pretty much stayed employed from the time she was a teenager until SHE decided to retire. Although her love life was a little spicy (by that era's standards), she did manage to find her true love and marry him. She didn't do drugs or alcohol, and her children turned out okay. She settled down and took it easy after her husband died, living a quiet life in a small town. She was loved and adored and respected by her friends, family, and peers. She died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92, after living a life most of us can only dream about: dancing with Astaire; kissing Montalban; being whisked away by Keel, etc... I don't consider Jane's life tragic, I consider her blessed. May she rest in peace.
What beautiful woman as she got older she became better looking as the years went on, I found her stunning! Always with a smile on her face very talented !!!
Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is wonderful, in part, because Jane Powell is so wonderful in it. Whenever I watch it I get so involved in the songs and dancing. Michael Kidd sure did an incredible job 👏 with the choreography. So did Jane. I'm so sorry she has left us, but there 😔 are so many great movies 🎬 we can see that will always keep her alive in our hearts and minds!!
I loved her in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! I'm seriously heartbroken that she passed away I didn't know, she was my favorite! What a loss , R.I.P. Jane Powell
I thought to myself, "Who had the greatest singing voice I've ever heard in my life and, will ever hear?" Not Adele. Not Celine. Not Streisand. No! The greatest voice? "JANE POWELL" I wish I would have been able to meet her. Heaven, has gained the greatest singer of all time.
What was “tragic” about Jane’s career or life? It all seemed pretty good for the average entertainer. It was a long career and encompassed almost every medium one can imagine. BRAVA to Jane Powell, I say. RIP
Jane Powell had a long and steady career. Seven Brides was definitely a high point, but she was terrific in Small Town Girl and so many other films. I think I'd put Royal Wedding in second place. The number "How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Love You When You Know I've Been a Liar All My Life" is sensational.
@@arlenehodges3678 And still, in a 1995 interview with then-host Robert Osborrne, Ms. Powell said, "I think we're all unwanted, lonely, and lost." (It was such a striking thing for her to say, I jotted it down and kept it in my memorable quotes file.)
I was born near and grew up around the studios with my grandfather a studio painter and my mother and father knowing people who worked there and meeting many of the stars throughout their lives. I myself have met many of the older stars growing up too. I remember her in the Polident commercials. Makes me very sad when the older stars I watched as a child and through adulthood are falling as time moves forward. RIP and my condolences to her family.
I loved every musical that Jane starred in. A top favourite would have to be 'Royal Wedding' with Fred Astaire playing her father. In it they sang a song with one of the longest English titles ever written. Also, Fred danced on the ceiling.
Jane Powell was 4'10 and that was limiting in the kinds of roles she was offered. A long time friend in her obituary described her as "candid". Some of her candid, less than cordial, interviews are on youtube.
I loved jane i all her movies i especially loved her operatic performances in her movies ...two weeks with love..athena.. and a date with judy were my favorite movies but many many of her individual performances in her many movies were fabulous beyond words...jane powell kathryn grayson and susanah fosters voices were and always will be imprinted in my heart..my soprano coloraturas.....
My favourite and still favourite film ever I used to come home from school and watch it over and over again everyday singing along and just loving the characters and story line ❤
FV...I love the way she sang "It's A Most Unusual Day". She was a good person and had some heartbreaks in her 5 marriages, but...don't we all? That, my friends is much closer to the truth than the "tragic" implication the title gives.. "The Glorious Life of Jane Powell, Old Hollywood's Girl Next Door." How about that? Sounds so much better, doesn't it?
She had a knack for playing the happy young girl in her early roles and she did it with grace. Never really over the top! Loved her in A Date With Judy and Flying Down to Rio. For several years I used to mix up her part in The Girl Most Likely with How to Marry a Millionaire because the plots were similar!

I designed a overcalled film strip with camera sprockets with film frames with the center in green chromakey green that the films were shown in. I was.surprised at what a tiny figure she had, but the set did not over power her.
I think Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was her best movie. But she was always delightful in her rolls. I'm sorry to think of her as being in her 90's & now finish with her life. I wish she could have had more movie like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It sounds like her work on the stage would have been fun to see. I believe her last marrage was a happy one, I hope her family life was happy. May she rest in peace & thank you Jane Powell for some happy memories.
Carleton Carpenter: You were great in the movie "Two Weeks with Love", and now my heart is broken. I will see you in a bit Jane. Tell Debbie Reynolds that I will see you in a bit.
While a nicely done video, this tribute is like many others on TH-cam that hint about a "tragic death" that doesn't come remotely close to being tragic by anyone's definition. I toured with Jane in "Sound of Music" back in 1968 and then booked her on "Murder She Wrote" many years later when working as one of her theatrical agents. She was a lovely lady who was kind and generous and truly one of the nicest people in the industry. But a tragic death...seriously?

Jane Powell’s death was far from tragic. We should all be so lucky as to live to age 92, and in relatively good health right to the end.
So true
That's right!
Someone born in the 1920s who passes away peacefully in 2021 - no, tragic is not an accurate word.
And still beautiful, so beautiful !
Amen.
Jane Powell is timeless talent. Her acting and singing was prolific. May she rest in peace.

Why is it tragic? She was 92. She didn't die young or in an accident or of a drug overdose, she had a long and happy life and entertained millions.

When this channel says tragic it is referring to death itself, which is always indeed tragic to the victim. 👍👍👍
