That lady said something about dancing on the floor & ceiling & Fred Astaire did that in a later film! Wow. Love Fred & I'll dance with him in Heaven.😊🤗
An excellent film, made when I was all of 15 years' old. Would you believe that food was still rationed. You needed ration books to buy food and sweets were almost impossible to obtain. Remember, this was only 6 years after ww2 and whereas America saved the German economy, we were more or less told to get on with it. No disrespect to our American allies. They were protecting Europe from invasion from Russia under Stalin. At least there was little problem with overweight Brits! Back to the film; I actually saw it at either the Odeon or Granada cinema in Epsom, Surrey, England. I enjoyed it then, and still do. Kind regards to all film fans from an 87 year old. May, 2023.
I'm in awe of the stark contrast you have described from then and now. Wow.... sounds like you have experienced a lot! Thanks for sharing and reminding. 😊
The dance scene around the 22th minute was Fred’s own idea based on his and Adele’s own experience dancing on a ship on it’s way to England, he writes in his autobiography Steps in Time
It is only now that I appreciate how advanced the film industry was in 1951, this was before Elizabeth became Queen and George vi was still king. Old good days. These are such romantic movies they watched❤
It's is only at the end of the movie that I got to realize it was princess Elizabeth and lieutenant Philip's royal wedding ❤😂nice. Watched from Zambia 🇿🇲
Hi I am a 20 year old turning 21 in 2025 and can I just say I know these Freddy movies are a bit before my time but I love how movies were filmed back then going from now. My favourite movie top hat 1939 would always sing to it on my way asleep with grandma and these movies have a deep connection to me and will always love them wish they would make modern movies this way
Always liked All the songs sung in All the Fred Astaire musicals they don't writes songs like that any more Fred and Jane were excellent dancing together
Great movie love Fred Astaire dancing movies and of course Elenore Powell is fabulous. Thanks for uploading, the resolution is fantastic as is the colour especially in Haiti👏👏👏👏
Fred Astaire was born in 1899, so he was 52 (!) when Royal Wedding was filmed= at a time when most people were OLD at 50! What an amazing talent and energy. And I'd forgotten how adorable Jane Powell was. Top it off with great clothes. XXX
It's amazing when you think about it a lot of dancers have given up their dancing shoes by that age Jane must have been in late teens or early 20 s when this was made her and Liz Taylor and Debbie Reynolds were all about the same age
Jane and Deanna durbin had two of the most beautiful voices in movies Shirley Jones also actually so did Marnie Nixon who did all the voiceovers for several non musically voiced actresses like Audrey Hepburn in my Fair lady
¡Qué joya de película! Muy disfrutable. Y que decir de las dos escenas donde Fred Astaire baila sin acompañante. Simplemente mágicas. Mil gracias por compartirla.
Keenan Wynn was a marvelous actor, comedy, drama, musicals, whatever. He helped his father Ed Wynn (remember flying Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins ???) get acting jobs when it seemed his movie career was over, even worked together in Disney's The Absent Minded Professor and Son Of Flubber.
Jane Powell was such a doll so cute pretty And along with Fred Astaire great dancer and she' had a sweet voice as tiny as Liz Taylor was in her engenue years Jane was even tinier
In June Allyson’s autobiography, she said her biggest goal in life was to dance with Fred Astaire, and yes, she was going to dance with him in this movie; but she soon realized she was expecting and couldn’t dance with him at all. Judy Garland was chosen then and was rehearsing with him, but soon became exhausted and couldn’t do it. So Jane was finally chosen … 🫢
Fred Astaire was a true dancing king. How did he do the wall and ceiling dancing? Seems to me a one-shot filming for the entire scene. [1:06:20-1:09:25]
It was a revolving room set. The room was built inside a spinning metal frame and the camera was fixed in one position; the frame was rotated accordingly whenever Fred was on the walls or the ceiling. There’s a pretty cool video on here showing exactly how this was done if you want to check it out.
Hi everyone, thanks so much for uploading this treasure of film and dance art. A question to the English speakers: What do you think of the german synchronization? Greetings from 🇩🇪
Back in the 1980's this film used to be broadcast nearly every weekend ( it seemed to me) in New Haven Ct. ( & S.F.) i hated it. ( I hated musical's back then.) I miss it so much now.

I never grow tired of watching Fred Astaire dance
I got bored with it 50 years ago, but I understand why people enjoyed it.
I love his voice, too, believe it or not. Now thatvl I age, I really love that Ginger Rogers spark!!

I enjoyed your story. Thanks so much for sharing. I hope you are well. God bless
The fact that they were 30 years apart makes it more incomprehensible. Love it!
It's the same with Maureen O'Hara and Victor Mclaglen in The Quiet Man.
I love how Fred acts like he's not old. Definitely something to look to when I get that old
Fantastic musical. Fred Astaire was the best dancer of the world. Thanks very much for this super quallity (4K) movie!!🎩🥰
Stupendo Fred bellissimo film guardandolo si trascorre momenti di serenità ❤❤❤

That's Jane Powell. The only movie he made with Eleanor Powell was The Broadway Melody of 1940.
That's Jane Powell
@@michaellasfetto5810 And both great dancers
A big fan! Love the classics. So romantic and wholesome! 🍓
My childhood🥹, oh Lord, the way I used to dance to this with my siblings had masterd the whole choreo😂

I just can't ever take him seriously as a Romantic lead. He could dance, but he was far from handsome. At least, not to me.

Как хороший певец сможет спеть песню , так и Фред Астер мог сделать танец из пустяка, танцуя с предметам в комнате, и это всегда интересно😊
Fred Astaire. Gene Kelly two of the best male dancers
