ASICS METASPEED SKY PARIS RACE TEST - KING OF THE SUPER SHOES? - YEOVIL HALF MARATHON 2024
I travelled travelled down the road, to the YEOVIL HALF MARATHON to test out the ASICS METASPEED SKY PARIS on a road race!
Find out how i got on and my thoughts on the race route along with my analysis of the shoes.
A half marathon PR today, long time coming, getting closer to that sub 90 minute goal.
This is a shoe sent to me by ASICS for testing, though they are not paying me to make this video nor will they be vetting my views before you see them.
Hold tight people, stay strong and we WILL make it through.
Keep it nice in the comments please, i do not do unpleasant, its just ..... unpleasant. See you in the digital ones and zeros......

Yesterday, I ran a Boston Qualifier in my Sky Paris.
How did it go?
@@EDDBUD The race went well, thank you. I'm a mid to forefoot striker, so the Sky Paris worked very well for me. The heel is very narrow; so, I would not recommend this shoe for heel strikers. They would lose stability towards the end of the race when the form starts to break down. Otherwise, this is a brilliant shoe. HIghly recommended with the aforementioned caviat. Cheers, Edd.
@@Wings_nut Heel striker here, on Edge Paris. They didn't lost stability in the end of the race for my half marathon on Sunday, but there was some serious post race pain in my right ankle. Sub-strengthening? Maybe.
Question-mark if I would use them for a marathon.
@@Wings_nutI’m reading “ran a BQ” as confirmation that you qualified. If I’ve got that right: CONGRATS!!🎉🎉
@@chad.haggerty I did. Thank you.
I just ran a marathon in the Edge Paris in my second marathon and improved my time by more than an hour. Age 72 did 4:37 yesterday in Baltimore area and last December did 5:46 in Honolulu in the heat.
Congratulations. I’m the same age and last April I cut 18 min off my previous year’s Boston time wearing a super shoe for the 1st time (the Endorphin Pro 3) though I expect in your case like mine that it’s not just the shoes! My training was better as was my carb loading. But the shoes did help, especially with recovery.
@@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 I also did more carb loading and that helped prevent a bonk. Shoes do matter if you are in peak condition. Great job to cut 18 min off!
Fantastic running Sir 👍🏼👊
@@EDDBUD Thank you Ed! Three weeks later I ran a 2:01 half on a flat U.S. bike trail in Ohio (easy course) and the two weeks ago a 4:44 in BMO Vancouver Marathon. I hope that I can cut my marathon time to 4:10 or lower. Hard to keep up with you young guys!
An Alphafly without the weight and all the complications!
Asics = 👌👌👌
Spot on
I've just bought mine....Nike missed out on my earth credits.
I went to Asics just now to buy this shoe right after watching your half marathon review and I was super impressed. It reminded me of Nike Streakflys coz of the lightness and bounce and if that had a v2 this should be it.
It’s really a super shoe for all time!
Hell yeah, Ed!!! Congrats on the PR!!! 👏👏👏
Congrats on the PR, Ed! I may pick these up for the next marathon. Thanks for the review!
Hope you enjoy it!
Well done! I’m sorely tempted by these for fall 🤔
Congrats on the PB! Those Sky Paris sure look interesting. Did a half marathon PB in the Superblasts in January in the Faroe Islands, will try new PB in the Endorphin Pro 4s in May 👍😊
Best of luck on your events
Well done. 🎉🎉🎉. I have the Metaspeed Edge plus and Sky plus. Love the Edge plus but Sky Plus make me feel like I have to go over a bump under the metatarsal every step. Excellent for long fast runs but 10K and up only the Edge Plus.. Confused about both Paris models have the same drop ❓
The plus is quite different to this shoe in all honesty
Great going boss, delighted you got the PB❤🎉. Got one myself in my Boston 12s 🎉
Enjoy it
🔔Well done Edd , great run (even better given the ups and down's that course has) . I will have to seriously look at that shoe in the summer , my coach ran in them at the Wimslow half this weekend and also ran a great race (he is very fast anyway but would have mentioned it if the shoes did not work for him)
It’s really quite the shoe. So light!
Great run Edd, congrats on the PR. I heard the Edge is harder to get than the Sky, but many have said that they would rather have the Sky.
Edge sounds more traditional in terms of plate placement
Congratulations, Ed!! Impressive run and a PB to boot!!🙂💪🏃🏻♂️👟👏👏
Thank you so much 😀
Well done Edd. I notice you have a stryd pod. I bought one recently. Would be interested in your thoughts on it in a video sometime?
Coming soon 👍🏼
@@EDDBUD awesome 👊
Awesome run on that course. Well done Edd!
Thanks 👍
Ed, great run. Perhaps relying more on "listening" to your body, monitoring pace accordingly, relying less on what the Garmin is telling you may have something to do with your successful race. In my opinion, Garmin data have their place, but I'm not convinced in a race day situation. I'm old school 😂.
There’s something in there for sure 👍🏼👊
Hi, Ed. Used a generous return policy to test these at the NYC Half Marathon about six weeks ago. Had trained less than any other year I'd run this race and somehow bounced myself to a course PR despite quite a few uphills. You're right, you really don't feel like you're pulling your lead foot up so much as falling into the next step. And, as a stride runner, I was amazed by how much longer my faster-paced strides.
Congrats on the new pr! You mentioned partially recommending the Sky Paris shoes, was waiting for the buts or downsides. Did a 10 miler yesterday (after half previous weekend) and was happy with it, brought out the adios pro 2s but they're starting to show a bit of wear so not sure how much more I'll get out of them, at about 372km now.
Might see if I get lucky with the Sky Paris on Wednesday or else visit shop up the country that's stocking adios pro 3s in next few weeks to try them on
At about 100k I'd worn through the outsole of my Pro2's, puncture repair kit and an inner tube had them like new again.
Meanwhile I shattered my Vaporfly 3's carbon plate when I ran over a rock. Afterwards it sounded crunchy. Used a box cutter to cut it open and the plate was like broken dry spaghetti in there. Very odd and splintery if that's even a word. Even had a piece of carbon stuck in my finger afterwards😂
Oh no!
Great result. I think you can go sub 1:30 if it all goes right between now and your on a great day
Yeah this is a tougher course elevation wise. On Bristol it’s almost flat
How does the sky paris compare to the AP3?
Lighter and softer by some margin.
Excellent “PB” way too much use of PR in this vid. for my liking 🤷🏻♂️ definitely gonna try and get hold of a pair of “edge Paris’” tomorrow, think they will suit 5k and 10ks better which I mainly do. You know what’s gonna happen you will get to Bristol and it will be 20 degrees C, if conditions are good u are going low 1:29s 👊 I’ll be there hopefully doing the 10k.
Personal record is for a measured course. PB for me is for outside of that
Great run Ed, now it's time for sub 1 30 at Bristol.
Thanks Kev! Appreciated the support out there just when I needed it
Well done, Ed and congrats on the PR!! 🎉👍 Can I ask why you chose the Sky Paris over the Edge Paris? Are you going to look at the Edge too?
Only tested the sky so far.
Congrats Edd. I do remember that in one of your previous videos, you also had a shorter sleep period due to a gig (musical performance) the night before, and surprisingly ran great the next day. Not sure how you do it. Bonkers indeed. I'm still not getting on with the original Metaspeed Sky, still too hard underfoor. But maybe these might be good.
Bit softer in this iteration
Best EDDBUD video ever, for some of the greatest shoes ever! Congratulations!
On Sunday I raced Shanghai Suzhou river creek half marathon in Edge Paris. Destroyed 5 PRs including half marathon and 10-freaking-k with average heart rate at 159. Those cats are fast. However they are a bit narrow on the heel. I am heel striker and was limping after race. (to be fair not as bad as with Adios Pro 3)
Would you use them for a full marathon?
These shoes are really something!
Congrats on the chunk PR there Edd! Way to race smart!
Really nailed the pacing this time
Congratulations! Strong running. I Can se the sub 1.30 blinking in the horizon👏
It’s not far away!
Definitely a good pick for the Olympics marathon then which is getting a nasty hill going to Versailles. I'll stick to AF2 for Paris marathon. Congrats again 🎉
Sounds like you had an amazing time. All the ingredients there, support from loved ones, friends and other runners to push you on and of course, shoes that got the best out of you. The perfect race cake. Oh, what’s that sir? A PR? Let me place that cherry on top of that cake for you. Nice one Mr!
🍰
Mega run on a very difficult course! Just ordered the Sky Paris after your recommendation. Can’t wait to try them.
@@ClubmanGT1971 one of the very best. Love my pair though they aren’t the most durable sadly in the outsole department. Enjoy
Way to dig near the end and finish like a champian! 🏆
So proud you got a PB on that course, in that wind mate! a big pat on the back and it was great to see you as always 🙂
Thanks 👍really happy with this one man
Congrats on the PB. But even better to have your mum and dad there! What awesome day!
Yes I’m sure they had clones or something to get around the course so many times
Sounds like a sub 90 effort on a flat course! Excellent work, well done!!
Thanks a lot!
Well done on a new PR! Interested to know how the Sky Paris compares with the Edge Paris.
Yeah me too!
Well done Ed "midsole" Bud !!!
Congrats on your PR !!!
Great seeing you on route, great running!! See you on the start line at Bristol half. About time you got those club colours back on😊. Keep the great work up!!!
Thanks for the support Graham!
Awesome, well done, Ed!! 👏💯🎯
Thank you kindly!
@EDDBUD no probs, dude 🤟 Reckon you should do well on the flat with them!! 1hr 30?? Something to aim for 🙌
Congratulations on a new PR. I really want to pick up the Metaspeed Sky Paris. It sounds like an amazing shoe.
well done! which socks did you use?
Uyn runners five. Amazing socks
Congrats ed budd on ur PR at that race
Congrats on the PB but did you have to mention the Wiggles? Hot Potato will be in my head all day now 😂
Oh no! It’s back! 🥔
Congrats! Awesome work
Thank you!
Congrats EB! PB city indeed. Just took the edge Paris out for a first run. What a beaut, these two
Amazing shoes. Asics have hit the spot. They look good too
Congratulations Edd for nailing your half marathon with a beautiful PR, awesome!💪🏽🔥🎉
Well Done on PR!!!
Congratulations on the PR! If the hilly stuff is for you the Sheffield half might be worth a shout ! 5 miles up at the start and then the back half is all down hill which sends people flying down
Downhill is good for pace. Not so good on the upper legs! 🤣
Can't wait for my marathon race with Sky Paris this May! Congrats for the PR, Ed! It felt great to hear your parents were there to cheer you up in 5 different spots. My heart is full!
Yes they gave me a real boost!
Amazing effort and result Edd, top man, top runner!!
Appreciate it!
Great work Ed!! Rock n Roll.
Rock on!
Congratulations on the PR, great achievement on a tough course
Many thanks!
Shout out to you! Great job!
I appreciate that
Congrats on the PB, and keep up the great work with the channel!
Thanks a bunch!
Congratulations!!🔥
Thanks 🔥
Ouuuu, a question. May i know what hat you're wearing? I like the stars print on it 😊
From runr. They do some great stuff
Really really curious this vs Edge Paris
He is up and about!!! Congrats on the pb Edbud
Mike hear from Great Western Runners. I will be the Clock car driver for Bristol. See you in Bristol and congrats on your time.
Superb stuff! Can’t wait for Bristol!
Well done Ed!!!!!🎉
I noticed the same thing you did with the Sky. Climbing hills feels a lot easier, I can lean forward into the hill comfortably. Going downhill, lengthening my stride feels great and allows for me to take advantage of going down. Truly a great shoe.
Exactly my sentiments
Great job, Edd.
Congrats! I think I sensed regret in that Wiggles recommendation 😂
Once heard the songs cannot be forgotten!
FFturbo+ sounds good with the incoming SuperBlast2
Too much excitement on that one!
Congrats on the PB on a tough looking course! 💪
Appreciate it!
Great race Edd..keep up the good work and kill it at Bristol...🎉
Congrats bud, nice work.
Thanks 👍
The shoes are only a factor once the effort runs out!!..
crocs and bare feet have been used to run marathons!.. thanks for the content. Congrats as well.
Not on this course! Too many stones.
1 hour 27 mins 36 seconds bristol half for you edd, I see it in my endorphin speed 1 outsole
🤣👍🏼
Congrats Edd 🎉
Absolutely fantastic Edd. Congratulations on your PB. 🎉🎉🎉
All the training and adjustments to your regime is paying off.
Really brilliant to see the year on year progression.
Keep going more pbs to smash. 💪😎🥇
Thanks so much!
Great time Ed! On a flat race, a sub 90 should be easily possible. 👊
Yes I’m really happy with the result! 👍🏼👊
Can’t use them. ASICS doesn’t release them in 14’s in Aus. Typical behaviour unfortunately. I’ll stick with Nike.
Nice PB - the budd is back 🎉
Well done, Edd! Congratulations
Thank you! Cheers!
Comfortable they may like, but they do accept uncomfortable to be even faster! Don’t we!
The two things are not always present in a shoe it has to be said
@@EDDBUD but luckily sometimes are!
I know you’re not a massive fan, but I just find the Vaporfly 3 perfect, even though I’m an ASICS fan!
Congrats Edd
Congratulations Edd, well done on your PR. I will have to give this HM a go one of these years.1'29 40s @ Bristol.
Congrats on the PR! I'm doing my first marathon on April 7th here in Australia and wearing the Sky Paris too!
Good luck!!
Congratulations!!
Thank you!!
1:31 on a course like that is amazing.😱
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Hi, huge fan, congratulations!
Awesome! Thank you!
Congrats on the big PR!! I can't wait to grab those shoes, I loved the last version, especially on half Ironman races.
Thanks so much!!
Sensational run Edd! Great PB on such a hilly course. 👏Nice to know the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris worked well as I recently got a pair too.
Yes they really hit the spot on this course
Sub 1:30 in the bag for Bristol. Good luck sir 🤞🏻
Well done Edd, what a fantastic time. 1.29 in Bristol me thinks!
Will go for it!
Congrats on the PR, that's a fast time! I ended up with both the edge and sky Paris, I have to say now that I've had a little time to try the sky out. I do think I like it better and so far my times are actually a little faster in the sky. I was surprised as previously I had a PR in the edge plus. but that was a half marathon as well and I'm doing a full this September, the Sky is definitely softer than the edge Paris at least for me. And as you said it lets you run more naturally because it doesn't have the aggressive, scooped carbon plate.
Thanks, it’s been a good year for PR’s!
Thanks for the thanks! I think we helped each other out towards the end - I ran quicker because you were there!
Glad to get the PR in. Onto Bristol for a sub 90 if all goes well 👍🏼👊
Would you consider the sky overall a better shoe for running faster times than the edge?
I've seen the edge be compared to the endorphin pro and the sky compared to the endorphin elite. Meaning the sky is more aggressive and almost forces you to move faster.
These don’t have that controlling rocker action
Wow!! Nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great day out Ed, so nice to see your happiness as it came good 💪
Such a good day!
Well done, Ed 👏. Stay fit and healthy (and weather conditions permitting), and im going to forecast a 1.28.10 for you at Bristol.🤞
That would be amazing!
Good afternoon. Excellent score, EDDBUD. Here is my Like. Have a great day.
Thanks for the visit as always!
Dude in the photo was checking out your P(aris) 😀
🤣👍🏼
Congratulations on the PR! I’m expecting sub 1:30 before long 🎉
Thanks! Not far off now. All thanks to some new diet choices and more focused speedwork.
G'day Ed. You really need to give the Edge Paris a go too. I have the Sky Paris and love them, but I just tried the Edge and ran my PB half-marathon (89 min). They are the same comfy, bouncy, light shoe, but they have more of a rocker. I think they have the Edge over the Sky.. They are the best race shoe I've tried.
Great running Edd! Sub 1:30 incoming at Bristol Half!!
Man, this has got me very tempted. I’m a huge fan of the Superblast but also the VF3. Really need to make my mind up about my London shoe!!
Congratulations on your P.B.
Edd under 1h 30 you cat in Bristol.
That's what I'm heading for in Worthing.
Good luck sir
Good luck!
