The german heavy traffic thing is pretty common in europe (saldy not all follow the rules). It actually is preatty easy, If you encounter real heavy traffic the very left lane goes to the left and all others (if you have more than 2) orientate to the right, leaving room for the police, fire fighters and preamadics
the thing is you need to do this even if you don't hear any emergency service. Think that part might be unclear for some.
