  • 1. Heated gear is more luxury than a necessity.
    2. Normal clothing is enough if you know what to wear.
    3. Snowmobile gear is also often cheaper than moto gear.
    All the gear I usually wear on my winter rides include:
    1. Snowmobile helmet with heated visor
    2. 509 R-200 Insulated Crossover Jacket
    3. Technical shirt on top of the Scott protection. Thickness to the level of warmth needed.
    4. Scott Softcon Air Pro protective shirt
    5. KTM Terra Adventure V2 pants with cold weather linings
    6. Long underpants. Thickness to the level of warmth needed.
    7. KTM / Alpinestars Corozal WP Adventureboots or Alpinestars Tech 7 Drystar
    8. Rukka OffWind Inner Gloves. Helps a surprising amount!
    9. Yoko snowmobile gloves and if needed handbar protectors from Yoko as well.
    10. Helmet balaclava for winter use
    11. 509 R-Mor Protective Knee Pads
    12. Tires:
    Front: Mitas C-17, 21” 90/90, stone eater, cross&enduro tire (306 studs)
    Back: Mitas C-16, 18” 110/100, stone eater, cross&enduro tire (don't remember stud count)
    13. 2x 509 R-Mor Protective Knee Pad
    14. My bike of choice: Honda CRF300L

    Using snowmobile gear for winter motorcycle riding is new to me. Thanks for this! As well as for the socks tip and the rest too.

      Also top tip. Snowmobile gear is often cheaper than moto gear I guess at least partly because markets are smaller 🙂

      @@PatchedBanditindeed, as well as there is no that much hype around it, at least in my part of the world.

    How you tackle winter riding, you've got some good points covered. Makes a lot of sense to me. Thank goodness we have warmer winters in Bavaria. Have a great weekend, Günter/Nürnberg

    Dressing for cold on a dual sport ride is very different than dressing for an ADV or road ride. You can dress with heated gear and not be reliant on it if it fails. Merino wool base layer, heated liner, goose down jacket (warm enough on its own and compresses nicely under gear) riding jacket. With this setup you can adjust your temperature to be comfortable and not just survive the ride. And on the chance the jacket fails or you need to walk to help you wont freeze.

      Still my mindset is that heated gear is a luxury product not a necessity. Just like radio on a goldwing 😄

    I get cold really easily, especially my hands. It doesn't matter how many layers I [put on I just can't generate enough heat, but heated vest and gloves has transformed my winter riding. I agree about not relying on them, so I always layer up anyway, switch on the heated gear and never have to stop ;)

    Finland. Different cold mate. Try the UK. That's shorts and t-shirt weather in the UK.

      You are joking right? 😂 Weather there is bad but your winter is like our Midsummers day 😅 (so less snow than usual)

    I live in Rome and appart from the gloves, I wear the same kind of gear during winter. It's 16 degrees here 😅

      But hey. I’m highly jelaous of you right now 😅😅 I was riding in the northern italy last year. Beautiful place 😳.. and Im DONE with the Finnish winter 🤧

    Very nice thank you! A lower cold back bought me here. And iam just en denmark 13 degress C now... Iam looking for something which can be sipped together and have space for big POD knee braces

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some kidney belts can help with the cold and also most good riding jacket+pant combos can be zipped together while riding. This helps a lot with the cold not going to lower back.
      I would suggest checking out snowmobile gear for cold weather riding as it tends to be better and cheaper than moto gear for colder climates.
      I tend to also have back issues if I get my thighs too cold while riding so protecting legs is equally important.

    Great video. How about riding at 70mph for an hour? Doesn't the wind chill make it too cold?

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I rarely go that fast on these forest roads for longer periods of time. Taking breaks in this weather is something I do a lot because eventually the cold will go through 😊
      If I would have to ride a longer stretch in this weather I would put rainpants on top of these. It helps drastically and I use the same trick in the summer sometimes.

      I takes a bit of time to get used to the cold 😅 Flying in from warm climate and doing this gear the next day is probably not the same experience as living here 😅 But you would get used to it the same as me after a while 🙂

    I see what you did there mate, and I like it. But you are missing the point about heated gear. It is all about comfort and you don't wear it like your life depending on it, you wear it because you can save some layers and be more free and loose on the bike. Keep in mind, for most motorcycle riding, (not on gnarly trails) you are stationary. You get extra comfort from the heated jacket. if your bike breaks down, you start walking and keep warm. I'm all over the fact that in some cases you don't need it. But to state that it is dangerous... well, you are wrong 😇🔥 Love to see how you layer up, but keep in mind that you have mintu in your veins. 🤣

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Very true that heated gear can be used for many many reasons and different situations. Was this video a bit cheeky? .. yes absolutely 😄
      My main point if there even was any is that the expensive gear even if nice and comfortable is definitely not mandatory even in these conditions 😎

    You live in Finland so your body is acclimate to that climate... While relying on heated gear to protect your life comes with risk some people will need it to ride where you are IMO

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Heated gear also trick the user to a false sensation that they have enough clothes on.. that one time that gear fails in the wrong spot it's a tough reality out there 😅
      But yeah heated or not I'm just trying to convey that nobody NEEDS the heated fancy gear to enjoy winter rides. It's nice but not necessary.
