If anyone has a Rectifier and doesn't want to use a boost but still wants somewhat of a tight sound my tips (in Modern mode) are: 1. Push the presence around 1 o' clock 2. Push the treble around 1 o' clock 3. Scoop the mids to around 9 o'clock 4. Top the gain. Gain interacts a great deal with the EQ in the Rectifiers-The harder you push while presence is topped and mids are scooped the tighter it gets. You can even push the gain ALL the way with the settings mentioned above. With V30s, the above settings get you pretty close to a tight BIG FAT sounding rhythm tone.. I might add that the tone is NOT for leads, although plausible. But single fast runs on the bass strings will not fart out with these settings. For me they work so good, that I abandoned boosting forever. If I need more tight sounds for Metal, especially technical thrash, I just go to my Mark series. But the Rectifier as set above, can hold its own quite well.
Sounding good. I like how you have the prescence above 12'o clock. I think it was Fluff who said that prescence at noon is just insanity. :D But this sounds good man!
hybrid_wwbtr They've changed the voicing of the presence control on these reborn models. I usually keep it at around noon with my current cab but it just depends on the cab, speakers, and room. there's no set-and-forget with things like presence.
Holy crap. I can not get a tone out of this amp that I like. I just can not get it tight at all. Any suggestions? I'm even boosting and it's still so loose.
Im running a Mesa 4x12 (I believe the oversized, but not sure atm). For guitars i have tried several: Schecter C1 Hybrid with emg 66, Gibson Les Paul Studio with 498t and another Les Paul with Emg 85s. Also, I;m using a maxxon OD808 and a decimator.
+Steffan Lucarelli what tubes are you using as well? I run my Single with KT77s in the power section, in the preamp it goes tung sol, electro harmonix, tungsol, JJ, and sovtek LPS. I run settings close to the ones pictured here (my presence and treble are at noon i believe) and other than that its all in the pick attack/palm muting technique. I have an old Marshall cab with 2 WGS Retro 30s and 2 Celestion G12T75s in it as well, which may cut some low end since its a smaller cab than a Mesa. I would unplug all pedals, and just go straight into the amp. Set everything at noon (or set the knobs similar to what is shown here) and I would adjust presence, bass, and gain until youre happy. try muting a little further from the bridge, try picking harder. Don't add effects or processing until you have a good base to start from.
Ok, I'll keep that in mind. I have played other amps and don't seem to have the issue at all, so I hope my technique isn't to blame; however, I'm sure if could always use improvement ;). So are those tubes what you would suggest to get a tighter tone while not sacrificing any "rawness"? I haven't changed the tubes yet (don't know what they are off the top of my head since it's not in front of me) since I bought it, as I haven't used it much cause of the tone issues.
I find the Rectifier can have a different sound depending on how you pick, how you attack the strings, your pick itself...theyre very dynamic amps. Sometimes people don't realize that because they run the gain really high which does kill some of that dynamic response. I used to own a 5150 and that thing, while being awesome, didnt really change response to picking and attack like the Mesa does. I love the KT77s, they are like a mix between a 6L6 and EL34. Fatter bottom of a 6L6, with a nice midrange and a little smoother top end. the preamp tubes I have changed a little (from V1-V5 its Tung Sol, EH, JJ, JJ (both ECC83s), and Sovtek LPS. the Tung Sol and EH seem to bring the top end edge and rawness, while the JJs seem to smooth the highs just a little bit. the KT77s give the bottom thump and midrange crunch, while having a top end that isnt too smooth. i tried EL34s and they did punch up the mids and tighten up the bottom, but it was too much IMO. sounded like they rolled off too much bottom (mesa EL34s). the KTs i use are JJs. all i can say is im completely happy with my tube setup. its clear, even with pretty heavy gain, and as long as you dont run the bass and gain too high, its pretty tight on the bottom end as well. top end is present but not shrill.
@@phantomofoaktown Yeah they are... they need very hot/tight pickups like EMGs to do any real damage without a boost. If you roll the bass right off and crank the gain a little you can get some saturation without it flubbing out
@@NumbskullAudioProduction I have active Seymour Duncans, jeff Loomis. I couldn't crank up the volume last night, first time with the amp was yesterday, I only have 30 minutes experience with it, very dry, I dont have a boost yet, and am praying to god that with the boost I can get the sound of my dreams, if not I will sell it and get an Engl savage 120 mark2, well so far I'm really impressed with the multi watt DR cleans, they are nice

Hey man, I just subscribed. Your channel is awesome and really needs more recognition ! Keep going !
Thank you dude, I've been a bit slack lately but I have some irons in the fire. Cheers!
Sounds great! Is it diode or tube tracking?

Numbskull Audio Production oh, ok. Makes sense :D
Based on what you hear in the song, is Crystal Dream by Scythe of Luna a boosted or unboosted rectifier (or some other amp?)

Why does my rectifier sound weak without a boost, and why does yours sound good without a boost? Did I buy a lemon?
Weak in what way?
@@NumbskullAudioProduction it's very dry

@@phantomofoaktown Oh the boost is key with these amps. Don't give up on it. Once they are dialled in and boosted there is nothing quite like it.
Whats the tuning? Like drop A?
+chazzy licks I believe so, yes (not my song!)
My dual Rectifier cant handle my Iron Label 8 even boosted :( way too much bass
By The way my 7 string shecter sownds great
Jorge Lima Tosin Abasi himself uses Dual Rectifiers. Believe me when I say that there’s a tone in there to fit your needs.
