I met him after a concert in Michigan at a little UP casino in the 90’s. He was so down to earth and super cool. My friends and I ate with him and a couple of his band members.
Wow that must’ve been awesome! 🤩
I miss living in Michigan.

Cool and fabulous
Oh yes it does
So do I!
I don't know how I missed this gem in the 80s. Dudes attitude and confidence is off the charts.
I like that vigorous finger snapping @ 1:55!
Wow, I can't believe you missed this. This was one of those songs that made the 80's the 80's.
Yeah it is.. he was and still is " THE BEST "
It's all about the package.
It was one of my favorites
Don't under estimate how he dominated the charts in the 70s and early 80s. Had masses of hits.
not in the UK
Hoje é apenas sombra do que foi um dia. Tudo passa, tudo é passageiro, é vaidade.
In NZ he had heaps of fans 😂,I was one still am. ❤
Yup
What is baby giving up?
He didn't get the recognition he deserved. He was (and still is) a real star, a huge talent with happy and cool music. It's not too late ...
He is definitely a HUGE star! I've always loved their music, but I really have to ask what has happened to make him gain so much weight? How much, close to 100lbs? It can't be healthy at his age. He needs to see someone about losing some of it.☮✌
In case anyone knew, many who criticized him deep down they wish they had his talent. The rest of the world knew that. I miss those care free fun days.
He's still in tour
Oi
True ! Cool music
Amazing, a couple of years before this release he was in a bad car accident, paralyzed, and could not walk! he came back and got right back into the studio and released this classic. Thank You KC!
Es verdad! Impresionante su recuperación, su resiliencia!
Thanks be to God almighty 😊 ❤ KC
I love how he still applied the Miami sound that made him popular in the 1970s and incorporated that to the synth textures of the 1980s. Talk about adjusting to the times.
Yes you gotta respect it 100
Yes he did. I’m impressed that he was able to keep the same music style yet tweaked it slightly for the times.
Can you define "Miami sound"? I keep seeing that term, but I don't know what it means!
Micky Van de Ven,Micky Van de Ven 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love how he got back in the studio to do this song after a serious car accident. Never give up!
Yessss❤I Loveeeee KC
Yeah they had better drugs back then. 😂
Really?
@itsjemmabond yeah if you see him at end of 70s he was little more bigger but he lost lot of weight before he recorded this. He was partially paralyzed but he proved doctors wrong and was able to walk, dance, and perform in general
That's why lot of his singing is him like singing to the camera like look at me. He's showing the docs he made it back
@welcometothemovies9157 I was not aware of that! That slim structure suited him though. Thanks.
I didn't realise at the time, just how good KC and the Sunshine Band was.
Good times.
Agree, I used to hate this type of music but with the coming of age i now really appreciate KC and realise how good these songs are.😀

When you find out that less than a year before this song/video, he was in a serious crash and had to learn to walk and everything again! And he musta felt so great making this vid! He’s ooozing greatness!
Didn't know that😮 Quick recovery..and Cool Song❤

I grew up in this era. Listening to this makes me want to time travel in the era before virtual social media and smartphone. Plus, the artists of this era were passionate with their art, singing to the best of their ability.
it happened with all media industry bro. News, movies, videogames.... alll got destroyed by social politics.
Osama Anwar It’s more than just that. The Internet and digital technology made the entertainment industry more massive than it ever had been before and created a more fragmented consumer market than ever before. Before, you had to have record labels have the money to actually produce actual physical copies of records to sell during the analog days. Now they can make infinite copies of records to stream and to download and that ultimately creates way more competition for performers to sell their music and some resort to cheap publicity stunts like politics to get their foot in the door.
If only we could go back Rick I for one wouldn't come back to the present the world down the sewer 😢😢
I agree with you completely, such good times.

This is definitely my top KC / Sunshine Band song. Such a fun song.
One of the great American bands of all time. I love KC and Sunshine Band.
Re: KC - In January 1981, he survived a serious car accident - another car hit his car head-on. He was left partially paralyzed for six months, and had to re-learn how to walk, dance, and play the piano, but by the end of the year he was back in the recording studio. "Give It Up", was released as a solo hit, shot to Number One in the UK (but his U.S. label, Epic, refused to release it).
true??
Holy smokes that’s absolutely true; BTW “Give it Up” was also a big smash hit in my homeland despite never achieving chart success in the USA 🇺🇸
And FYI by the time this song was released KC had already left the Sunshine Band to try his luck as a solo artist & released 2 solo albums: “The Hunter” & “Space Cadet”👩🎤 🌞 ☀️
That's true this song was popping off in Aus
WOW
Things we forget over the years. I vaguely remember hearing about his car accident and that he had to have a lot of rehab to function like he used to. Here's something no one remembers... I had a huge crush on him in the mid-late 70's. It must've been the pants, lol.
Every time I hear a KC and the Sunshine Band song, it makes me happy and elevates my mood. That is a great thing.
This was Number 1 in the charts on my last holiday with my dad. I was only 7 but remember it vividly. He died 10 years later, and I barely saw him during that period, but this song still means so much to me.

I’m sorry but it could NEVER have been a number one hit back in 1982.
Disco was universally hated back then and KC and the Sunshine Band was definitely a disco band and that means that everyone “hated” them. That is why they were only able to make 18 on the Hot 100, and it was lucky to get that.
I was a fan and own this LP, and like you think it was a true masterpiece. But it was never going to get that kind of love from the mainstream audience.
I was in high school when this came out and in the early 90s I was a Pop DJ and got to meet and have a short chat with KC. I told him that “Give It Up” was my favorite song of his and he was appreciative.

I was young and remember the really interesting time when disco “died.” All kinds of music got airplay, Punk Rock, Heavy Metal, and the beginnings of Hip Hop. As a young teenager it was a great time for music discovery.
Nessa época da discoteca tinha q saber dançar e como era bonito de se Ver as pessoas todas unidas e dançando. época maravilhosa
So, I was talking to Mom about K.C. and she asked a question that led to some Googling, which led to me reading about how he made this video after he was in a terrible car wreck that caused him so much damage he had to relearn how to walk, play the keyboard and I think they said talk and sing, too. I can't remember. it sounded horrendous. But, now I am way more impressed with this video! It's so much more than just a catchy song by a familiar face.
Thank you!! At least SOMEBODY in this comment section did some research!! A lot of them are just concentrating on how much coke they assume he was on! Probably projecting what they were doing themselves!

According to Wikipedia, Epic Records didn’t have confidence in this song, so KC formed his own company and released it himself. Maybe that’s the reason for the lackluster video. No matter; it’s a great song and probably introduced the M-TV generation to an artist they might never have heard of since his last hit was in 1980.
There is a real video for this song. Pretty cool too.
This is a Topic video. Every video is like this. I've seen four versions on TH-cam. Topic, official video, a few with the song playing with different album covers showing, and some digital videos. P.S. Check out the ladies, they do the same routine on Topic and the official videos. ♡ T.E.N.
Give it up🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺💃💃💃💃💃🤓nananananana👏
This isn't the official music video for the song, this is from a Dutch TV show called TopPop also it's not really lackluster it's kind of cool!
They didn’t have confidence in this song as a single because they thought KC & The Sunshine Band were basically has-beens and weren’t worth spending any more money on to promote their album after two previous singles that had completely flopped. But in Holland, where disco was still big, they did green-light a single release for it there, and then it slowly spread worldwide eventually back to America.
KC got over so much serious problems. Thank so much UK to bring him a new #1. As usual UK and Netherlands have the best musical taste. Excelent but sounds like a demo.
