Totally regretting not requesting this song at prom two years ago. The DJ was just playing a bunch of random rap songs no one even knew. Now this would have been fun on the dance floor! I bet prom back in the day was awesome with music like this.
Cindy Le My friends at my prom MADE SURE to request only 70s and 80s xD No one knew how to dance to them, but all of my friends danced our asses off. This was three years ago ;D
Skwisgaar4256 - I'm so glad I grew up in the 70s and 80s because I LOVED to dance. The last time I went out dancing (still many years ago), the club was playing industrial/techno type music. Couldn't stand it. Never went back.
Cindy Le Proms were indeed awesome in the 70's. True. Everyone danced and had a good time... No one cared what you looked like dancing 'cuz the music had everyone's attention and we all felt it.
Aren't the ladies very sweet, charming n attractive ???? Also not forgetting the two guys. All their songs are so easy to the ears. Enjoyed singing along with them !!!!!
One of the most instantly-recognizable, universally-beloved songs ever performed. If music can unite the world, this is it. Who doesn't adore this song, and want to break out in spontaneous dance moves when they hear it? Rockers, classicists, country music fans, disco-goers etc - there is something wonderful for everyone here!
I've been wedding DJ twice. I'm not a professional DJ. But I know what people like. So, of course, this is in my playlist. A lot of ABBA. A 'professional DJ' wouldn't be as good.

If this is a competition of the older the music the better, then clearly the first prehistoric humans banging rocks and sticks on the ground while screeching and hollering beats all other music by a long run
Hats off to you man, not a lot of guys will admit what you just said. I love this song, because it makes me think of mom. She's a huge ABBA fan, and will proudly sing and dance along!
The reason is our fear of growing old and losing our youth. The fact that we can never be younger than this moment. The fact that we won't stay 17 forever. You cry because you are just letting go of these feelings. Accepting your fate. Accepting this fact of life.
You said it buddy ,this song takes me back to the 3rd grade, when on snowy days we didnt have recess.our teacher would bring in an album and play a song to keep us entertained on frigid Maine winter day. 1979 Ms. Hoyt .one of the coolest teachers i had.way back in the day. Good times are ahead and new memories. Be safe and well 🌹❄🌲🍁
Swedish melancholy. Smiling through tears. Long dark sad winter days. Long sunny happy summer days. Major emotional contrast from peak winter to peak summer. This is ABBA music in a nutshell. Their songs are about the human condition. Their entire catalog in total is about living life through its ups and downs, but in the end, all is gonna be ok.
OMG!! 65 here!!!! Funny how a song takes you back to when times were innocent and simple. Smiling and crying at the same time. Thanks for the memories 🥰🥰🥰🌹
I've never been a massive ABBA fan by any measure, but this is clearly one of those songs we should be broadcasting into space as an example of human cultural accomplishment.
@@Ruby16663 But I'm Swedish! That should count for something! Björn and Benny have written some phenomenal musicals I think. Like Kristina från Duvemåla.
One of, the greatest, if not *THE* greatest pop song ever. It's 45 years old and still sounds amazingly fresh. It really, finally turned me on to ABBA back in 1976 and I still listen to it now, in wonderment and never tire of it!
holy crap really it's from the 70's? i alway thought it was an early 2000's song like all the other songs kids liked from back them. plus if im not mistaken it gets played on the modern music station. the one with mnm and lady gaga etc.
@@bland9876 Yep, it's really from the 70's 😉 I think "Mamma Mia," and a number of films with ABBA songs running through them, like "Muriel's Wedding" and "Priscilla Queen of The Desert," may've given younger people the impression that this and other songs are more "recent!" But, ABBA in so far as their international success is concerned, were hit making from around 1974-1982. Says something about their lasting impact, that people are still enjoying their output today!
@@ashe1928 I mean I was born post 2000 and I agree 100% , hip hop is made for the general audience and it doesn’t have the same level of quality of previous genres such as the disco age
@@ordjk4797 Jesus, young people really do say some obtuse things. If hip hop is made for the "general audience" then who the hell is Abba made for? Because last time I checked they were a hugely commercially successful, mainstream pop group that has mass appeal. Why did you feel the need to attack hip hop specifically? Perhaps if you took the time to look into the history of popular music you would understand how influential and groundbreaking the emergence of hip hop in the late 70s was, a time in which groups such as Abba were releasing music that pretty much piggybacked off of African-American culture, effectively appropriating black music, selling it to the masses and generating a fuck tonne of revenue in the process. The funny thing is there were people who despised Disco during the "disco age" with a passion, offering the same reasoning you have for your dislike of contemporary music. Such people are referred to as "hipsters". :)
@@rogerballard6012 Yes, of course, and many other Bee Gees and ABBA songs are great. But Dancing Queen has that special touch that makes you jump off you chair in a second.
The song might sound very simple! But it has been composed very smartly, and has been produced and sung with so much heart that’s why it gives such a nostalgic feeling!🤗 I love ABBA and I covered this wonderful and gorgeous song for my 17th birthday! It would mean the world to me if you saw it.🤗🦋💕

I'm a 56 year old Metal head who sadly poked fun at this band in the 80's...I've seen the error of my immature youthful ways and am here to tell you I love this band and this song!! Iron Maiden and Abba forever.
ABBA is legendary. I can’t believe it’s their first time to be nominated at the Grammys. How did the Grammy keeps on ignoring for decades. Anyway, congratulations, ABBA! ❤️🔥 This song is phenomenal and known from every corner of the world. This is the kind of music that lasts every generation.
I'm a 90's kid and with how music evolves every single day/months/years, i can say that ABBA songs will never be forgotten and we'll come back here again and again
Alexander Dávila Arias pop music is fighting to stay relevant in the multi-channel internet age. So it's gone all combative now, angry, as if it has something meaningful to say, with no time for love. Most of the songs in the 70s were "I love you" songs. And when Abba sang this song, their country Sweden only had two TV channels. No wonder life had to be made as sweet as possible!!!! If no internet and mobile phones existed today, I would predict that our pop culture coming through terrestrial television or through radio and in cinema would be kinder, less angry. We'd be better connected. And guess what? The reason it's harder to make out the lyrics to songs today is that, though angrier the lyrics are, the producers know enough to not overburden their listeners with that 'dimension', otherwise the listenership would revolt! I wish it would! Pop music today is abysmal. Would you let your grandmother tune in? She would know a popular song now!
Ben Mackay ... Apple existed before the internet and mobile phones, with the Apple Mackintosh, for instance, proving popular in the early 1980s. The more computers and mobile phones take over aspects of our lives, the less communicative we become in face-to-face terms with those who live and work with us. The projection screen for moving images was initially developed for our entertainment and amusement with professional entertainers to provide that amusement. It's a far cry now from the millions of deadening commercials or adverts today where people are running ("Our busy lives") about, supposedly to entertain us at the same time. It's a waste of time, with no gain in being entertained, with a brain and nervous system dulled by the per-second screen flickers to keep us hooked. And all in the internet age!

You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Dig in the dancing queen
Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for a place to go
Where they play the right music
Getting in the swing
You come to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music
Everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance
You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet
Only seventeen
Dancing queen
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Dig in the dancing queen
You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave 'em burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another
Anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance
You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet
Only seventeen
Dancing queen
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl

Ooh
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Digging the dancing queen
Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for a place to go
Where they play the right music
Getting in the swing
You come to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music
Everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance
You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet
Only seventeen
Dancing queen
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Digging the dancing queen
You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave 'em burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another
Anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance
You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet
Only seventeen
Dancing queen
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene

@@bland9876 Yep, it's really from the 70's 😉
I think "Mamma Mia," and a number of films with ABBA songs running through them, like "Muriel's Wedding" and "Priscilla Queen of The Desert," may've given younger people the impression that this and other songs are more "recent!"
But, ABBA in so far as their international success is concerned, were hit making from around 1974-1982. Says something about their lasting impact, that people are still enjoying their output today!
It was number one in the UK the week I was born and I'm proud of that fact.

@@ashe1928 I mean I was born post 2000 and I agree 100% , hip hop is made for the general audience and it doesn’t have the same level of quality of previous genres such as the disco age
@@ashe1928 #Im14andthisisdeep
