      Oh my goodness. Thank you so so very much. I know everyone evolves over time on YT (and likely has some fairly embarrassing old videos 😅) but it's hard to sometimes see improvements - at least for me. I know Glenn sometimes goes back and watches old videos but I don't really. After seeing it so many times while editing I just see it once when uploaded to make sure it's all good and usually never see it again. 😂 Thank you again. That means to much to us.

    "I can't see over my hood." I had the same situation with my 4Runner. Then, I installed a camera in the front grill. When needed, I just flip a switch on the dash and can see trail. One of the best mods I've done to my truck. I've explored out in that are, but not in several years. I'll have to get back out there, soon. I really like Nelson. I've done a lot of photography there. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing them. I live near Kingman, AZ.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! That's a super cool mod to do. Definitely easier to flip a switch than get a drone up in the air to check out the other side. (Granted, we were filming anyway) 😅

Over time your going to start hearing new clangs & bangs of Slim loosening up & dropping parts. Mechanics love loose bolts. Oh Careful there Glenn. Especially around Mines that Has a Fence yet a fence Others messed with. Not sure what Claim jumping laws are around there.
    LOL When in doubt Get that Butt on Out & Look. Speaking of butt, bet that sphincter got a workout on the Nelson roller coaster. Gotta say you picked the right way to do the coaster. Think that drop would have been a chore to get up.

    I used to live in Searchlight. We'd spend our weekends seeing who could do that rode the fastest. Buggies are the way to go, because you don't have a big hood blocking your vision. 35-40 MPH was about the fastest i've ever done. However, i've heard quicker. We called it the fun run back then. Going fast really brings out the "roller coaster." Glad you enjoyed it. Someday I hope somebody will tell the story of the great flood that washed away Eldorado Bay. Which was downhill from Nelson. It was also called Nelson landing. A 40' tall wall of water washed everything into Lake Mohave. I think around 1982 (?) Been awhile.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I can imagine those things could zip through those hills with some speed. Topping those hills must have given a terrifically thrilling and fun feeling I bet. I read about the flood when trying to find old photos for this video. Would love to do some more research into that one of these days. 👍

      Not insulted at all. I did recently get a decent compressor. Sometimes when I get in a hurry as I often am, I trick myself into ‘oh, it’s not gonna be that bad’, until it is. Back in the early 70’s when I was living in Vegas we would camp out just down the road at the old mine (can’t remember it name). Back then Nelson was a real ghost town, one old guy living there and no trespassing posted everywhere and he meant it, most of the buildings were pretty dilapidated, none of those vehicles. In 1974-1975 there was a pretty big flash flood, it didn’t do much to Nelson but at the end of the road at lake Mojave there used to be a marina, all of that was destroyed in the flood, the road going there was washed out with one point there was a 50 foot drop off where there used to be roadway.
    Then at another point the old guy living at Nelson cleaned out the old leaching tanks, they say he became a millionaire with the gold in it, he then moved away.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Read about that flood you speak of. Didn't know about any 50 ft drop off though. MAN. Intense! It would be cool to see how Nelson looked at that point in time compared to now.

  • @gibsonrocker17
    @gibsonrocker17 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nelson's an awesome place! I've been back a few times since I did a Canon photography event out there a number of years ago. It's interesting to see how their policies have changed over the years. It's been a year or two since I've been back, but I can't blame them for being more strict nowadays, because it's definitely been discovered, to say the least. I'll have to look a little closer into the off-road way into town. Seems like a great side trip vs. the usual way in. I certainly won't be doing the "rollercoaster" in my Ram 2500 diesel, but if I've ever got my dual sport out there or my ATV, I'll absolutely do the most interesting route. Also, heading down to the Colorado River from there is an absolute must! That's a beautifully wide section with boat launch there. In the summer, oftentimes you'll see kids cliff diving out there too. Nice video! Glad you did some of the drone footage there too because it really highlights the old mine sites and terrain!

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The back way via the "rollercoaster" is certainly fun and worth doing for the experience if you have the right vehicle. 👍 We actually stopped at the Colorado River afterwards. You can see that footage in our previous video from last week. It's a stunning location and the water is so beautiful there.

  • @baggedej6

    Hey man im new to this whole off road thing . My only mistake was getting a 2wd truck instead of a 4wd lol how bad do u think it would be if i take my truck thru that back road? Ik u used 4low and stuff but just wondering?

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I imagine it’s doable, but your wheels will likely spin out a bit more on some of those hills. That’s the likely difference you’ll feel, but not enough to get you stuck or anything. For example, you might start driving up a hill, and if the ground is loose enough and you stop momentum, I could see your truck remaining stationary while wheels spin a little for short periods of time. To which you could back up, and regain momentum. You may feel that once or twice. 4 low and 4 wheel drive helps to alleviate that. I often keep mine in 2wd if a dirt road is well maintained, but switch to 4 once I start to feel those tires slip, not that I necessarily have to, but for better control.

    • @baggedej6
      @baggedej6 หลายเดือนก่อน
