It's the parents who okay it and take her that often anyways. It's not like she's sneaking out or skipping school to go. They are allowing it without drawing any lines, just asking her to not like it so much. As a parent, they should just set a limit on what they will and will not do, how many games they will take her to and so on. Why are they letting a child set the schedule for the entire family?
Looks like mom wants a basic daughter. The daughter has an interest, she socializes well, and is responsible enough at school to be the president. If her mom pressures her too much, she's just going to end up one of those highly stressed students that aren't happy with themselves because they're always trying to please someone.
The mother said that she doesn't mind having her daughter like soccer as a hobby but the daughter likes going to the stadium a couple of times a week (during a school night) and obviously they would end up spending alot of money since they're going every week.
That's reasonable...what I find unreasonable is that she asked them in her letter "please make her stop". She also mentioned that they forced her to stop liking massages and Chinese medicine. Basically, she's controlling. It's one thing to explain to her they can't take her to games because it's expensive...but she can't expect her daughter to stop liking something just because it's inconvenient to her and because she doesn't have interest in it herself

that's why there's something called "parenting". Of course being too obsessed over anything is too much, but so is being too controlling. If mom has been taking her to games once a week all this time and giving in to her in the car as well, that's also a parenting problem. From the other examples of things she was obsessed with, it seems like mom gives in completely until she's sick of it than forces her daughter to give it up completely so she doesn't have to deal with it anymore. It's not just the daughter who needs balance here, it's also the parents.

IT IS A MAJOR CONCERN that KBS didn't call the FC Seoul team to the show to meet the girl! At least let the girl meet Dejan or the team's coach! They let some fans meet or call their idols but I am dissapointed they didn't do it this time. Imagine the girl's reaction. This is not a concern at all.Why is there any problem when a girl is addicted to a soccer? It's a good thing. Probably the mother wouldn't report it as a concern if she was a boy. I'm a girl too and I'm too much addicted to soccer but it doesn't have any adverse effect. Instead I take my footballing idols as my strength and try to follow them to achieve my targets.

Things like this make me upset sometimes. I am a girl and a soccer and basketball player. I also skateboard and do Taekwando as well. I am 16 now so my mom is more used to it but when I was 11 it was bad. My mom tried to take it all away by trying to make me afraid of the sport or putting me in ballet classes. It wasn't very accepted in my Asian part of the family. I am happy that I was able to fight through it and still doing the things I love. I feel like she should do the same and maybe lay it down on the obsession so it's not the only thing in her life (which it's sorta not). It's her passion and I fully support it 😊❤

April Mendellson Yes I did watch the video. I said it's sorta not because it's normal to a certain level. I wasn't sure if I was fully against it or not. I do think that she should focus more on school and spend less money on the games and go on the weekends (soccer games are usually on Saturdays). I fully agree on that. School is important but I don't think her mom should take it all away but the girl should lay it down on the obsession and only have soccer as a hobby after school.

I think this is one of my favorite stories. All of the people involved were understandable. I think the mother and father had a reasonable concern about how obsessed with soccer she was getting. I like how they had their worries, but they still took her to the games and bought her soccer merchandise. They supported her in her hobby. I also understand how easy it is to become obsessed with a hobby that you love a lot; especially as a child/teen. I like the resolution they reached at the end as well. Great family.

Oh, thanks for the information but pretty much on this earth, those who only have only 1 child experience smth like this, like a spoiled and demanding child. It all depends on how parents educate them since childhood. Parents should listen to their child's wishes and give them a choice along with the right reason, with which the child will begin to realize by itself. Don't automatically say 'no' or 'okay', because if the child's wish is not achieved they will be very disappointed and cry and demand smth.

The problem isn't about loving soccer, but on how obsessed she is with it and how obsessed the girl gets with something (massages and Chinese medical tea). It isn't good and is unhealthy. And not just that, they waste approximately $100 or more 2-3 days a week just for watching soccer games. I see why her mother wants her to "stop" liking soccer, but the daughter shouldn't. She just needs to control herself. She shouldn't be obsessed, but take soccer as an interest, and if she loves it that much, she can become a player in the future. As long there is determination. But wasting her time and money only to be obsessing over soccer without doing nothing is unhealthy and not doing any justice to her.

She’s articulate and speaks so well and seems to know her interest best. Her mom should be proud but I can see where the mom is coming from. I am from a culture who doesn’t prefer to see girls as soccer players, but as mom of a daughter I will support my girl to persue her favorite hobbies.
She seems like a well and bright child the only problem to me seemed to be she was a bit too spoiled (by that I mean, the parents giving her massages whenever she asked for one, 30 min as he mom said. When I ask my mom she just says you're too young to have stress or in need of a massage and I kinda agree sometimes. But I'm the one who gives my mom massages and it feels good to know she feels better☺. Plus the family seems to buy and go with whatever she likes, just an observation), and the only concern I agreed with the mom was the cursing at the games. She can love soccer to a certain limit like seeing a match once a month, but really what you said is wrong. Some teens don't like to use Snapchat or they might not like to twerk. I am her age, I love K-pop a lot and I don't use Snapchat as I am not obsessed with it. It is her parents' fault that this obsession has gone way too far, not hers really.

Im pretty sure the real problem is that shes overbearing, she only talks about soccer and only listens to their chants which wouldnt/isnt a bad thing but everyone else around feels forced into it. She doesnt seem to take others likes and dislikes into mind and instead only focuses on hers. I dont think they would mind as much if she toned it down, talking about one thing over and over and over again is annoying. Did you ever get annoyed with your parents over them and football?

When they mentioned how she was a fan of massages and would literally ask for one that lasts about 30 minutes. I was shook.. that's a long time! 😂 It felt like the issue here is because of her being an only child she was probably spoiled a little bit, I don't mean in a bratty way though. She's clearly confident with a sweet personality. Just maybe her parents could be a little stricter and talk with her more so she can be more appreciative and compassionate for others.

I don't think its a problem. She is a very smart & passionate girl and for her age, it's amazing that she already knows what she like and what she don't and she is not easily swayed by what her parents want her to be/do.
