Highly nationalistic Japanese aviation pilot during WWII, who was injured during a mission but made an "impossible" landing, so despondent about not being able to participate in the defense of the Emperor that he almost committed suicide, but at that moment decided to devote his life to Empire by other means.

    Doesn't Hanako carry his engram with her, anyway? Even if you defeat Arasaka, his engram likely still exists. Only problem would be him struggling to find a host due to V not working with their scientists to understand the process. Either way, he can still be a major future threat.

    • @Jramssy

      No. His engram was in Mikoshi and in all the endings except Devil the engrams there including his are absorbed into Alt and they leave with her & Johnny past the blackwall. It's spelled out that Alt is never coming back. So he's still alive, in a way but gone forever.

      Saburo had copies of his engram in *every* major arasaka building. Alt killed Mikoshi and Hanako died at some point during the whole mess, but that's it. Odds are there's still a box or three somewhere in the world or orbit with Saburo's name printed on it.
      That being said it's pretty unlikely Saburo will get his resurrection in those routes unless there's a corpo slave hanging around somewhere obsessed and crazy enough to plug him in after learning saburo's secret plan that let him "survive".

    I noticed something when I was deciding with whom I work together in the end. I remembered Hellman in the Motel where he asked if Johnny is manipulating me and if the decisions I make are truly mine or Johnnys. From that point on I was always sceptical when Johnny showed up in a Situation where I had to decide what to do. Hellmans words kept ringing in my head and I wasn't sure if I listen to him, he is manipulating me or if it is the right thing to do.

    This report kinda implies too that Arasaka was just toying with V. They likely could have found a new host body to take the engram, but if they freed V of his/her dependency on Arasaka there is nothing stopping V from just continuing the pursuit to destroy Arasaka or even just being a high risk Merc who now has powerful friends in powerful places. Arasaka would much rather have V as an engram eternally bound to them. I get Yorinobu is Saburo's son, but still, the idea that they couldn't possibly find a single host for V just smells of bullshit. The only 2 endings I'd accept as "good" is any variation of the nomad ending where V lives out the rest of their life with their loved one and new family, or one where V never romances anyone, gets nothing but positive voicemails and stormed Arasaka by themself. In that ending Panam thanks V for getting her back on the right path, Judy thanks V for helping her escape Night City and talks about being free at last, River talks about helping arm people to fight the good fight, and Kerry just kinda stays Kerry I guess. Overall best ending outside the nomad

      @@greenday9132 i mean that if you take the Devil ending into account, Hanako has a data drive of Saburo that she carries at all times. At the end of that ending, she kills her own brother and implants Saburo into him since the biochips only work on donors with matching or similar DNA to the engram.
      But here's the kicker: Hanako is also a possible donor. That means that Saburo could have forced Hanako to kill herself in one of the other endings and had Hellman or someone else implanted his engram into her dead body. And I'd assume that Saburo wouldn't want to reveal himself to Yorinobu as Hanako since he knows that Yori would hunt him down in his rage over the death of Hanako, so he probably went to space.
      Takemura obviously would be kept out of the know since he basically helped you, a terrorist, storm Arasaka HQ, thus making him untrustworthy as a bodyguard. I mean, he didn't even know that Saburo still had an engram of himself.

      Yeah, unfortunately this tangent in terms of the game completely undermines the primary story for V. If the tech is 'that' advanced, there should be an option for V to 'procure' his or her own replacement body, and (obviously morally dubious at best) have his or her engram replace that of the replacement body's sentience. Or... easier still, sit on ice, let V's original body be completely subsumed by Johnny then pull Johnny's engram, and reinsert V's, since an exact genetic match obviously isn't required.

Also, I'm assuming it wasn't really possible to make an engram of just V when johnny and V were mixed together. If they tried to make the engram when they were mixed, I'm guessing it would have just been a copy of that exact moment and even if put into another body, johnny's consciousness would still continue to take it over.

    What I've learned about the Devil ending is that, Hanako calls and is interested in V to work with her. That implies that if you accept the offer, they may hasten the operation of your health issue and get you back on the grid right away.
    The only thing I don't disagree with Arasaka's side is the Soulkiller, basically keeping the consciousness immortal even if your body physically dies. It's a world domination. That needs another nuke to take down Mikoshi into rubble.
    Also, bonus. Misty's tarot reading is always The Moon, because all endings are open ended. Meaning the current story ends for the moment, and it can be continued for future content.

(I think that the only true exception to that would perhaps be Rache Bartmoss? but i am not quite sure) What i think is not that he is a flesh puppet or something, with dead yorinobu being dead, but it's Yorinobu with Saburo's personality and memories, implanted by the Ingram.
      Y'see, the thing that where our soul is based on, the thing that can be defined as "us", is different than the thing that is controlling our emotions and memories. So much so, people return of commas or head-hitting and are the same people, but their personality changed.
      Hmm, i wonder yet. It wouldn't be quite bad if i could make an "me" as an ingram that would be taking care of my burial/dead body and would finish my stuff. Perhaps they would be aware that they're a copy. It's an "twin" situation, if you ask me. Same DNA, same carbon copy, but different experiences and thereby, different people.

    Notice, he's had every scrap of Cyberware removed. Ive said befor that Saburo is one of the few people you meet in the game that has next to NO cyberware, and this just kinda backs up what I've been saying.
    Yori used to have neckware, dual chip slots on both sides of his head and I think some eyeware from the looks of it (from memory)
    The neckware could have just been decorative since it was silver and gold, a rare combination (most rich folks go just for gold I've noticed) but the chipslots and eyeware would not have been. He's even removed those fashion glasses that yori had and replaced them with his old glasses I think.....which makes me wonder if he's wearing them alone, or had his old eyeballs saved and replaced Yorinobu's cybereyes swapped out with them.
    (Not sure how he managed that, since his stinky old corpsicle is always still lying there on the Konpeki Plaza penhouse floor, even to this day of patch 1.61 DLSS3 lmao. Okay, I know.....in game lore wise, his personal doctors took his body and froze it probably. )

    I honestly found this ending to be the most interesting, it demonstrates a lot of hypocrisy from the theocrats and religious organizations and the Militech influenced NUSA. There's certainly something to be said about ethical nature of how the technology is implemented and violation of human rights based on Arasaka owning each person as if they're property, but the argument of saying that they're "playing god" is not a foundation NUSA and the religious groups can stand on when they've been playing god and toying with peoples lives all their existence from their ivory towers built on 'Humble Oppression'.
    I don't believe the very nature of creating a method to bypass death as being evil, otherwise afterlife theories in general are build purely on evil in the same way as they're simply finding a way to provide life and cheat death. What makes the action evil is how the technology is handled, and if its handled responsibly then it could only be for the betterment of mankind, just like most technologies in the world that have brought us to this point.
    But I guess that also brings up the question of if the Technology is responsible for the person who used its action, is a hammer an evil item because one guy or group used them to cave peoples skulls in instead of building shelters? Is nuclear energy evil because it could and has wiped out thousands while its providing stable living for billions today? Do the few evil uses outweight the good?
    Alot of discussion could be had involving this entire scenario, but I don't think the tech on itself is evil, however it could be exploited by evil people for evil purposes, especially if Night City doesn't regulate it and caves to corporate control at the expense of the people who provide a steady income for Night City and the corps, the Average Joe and Jane.

      "Alot of discussion could be had involving this entire scenario, but I don't think the tech on itself is evil, however it could be exploited by evil people for evil purposes."
      Arasaka is selling a place in Mikoshi only to the rich and powerful. In the news bits we hear that high-ranking government and corporate officials (same thing in the Cyberpunk world, really) have signed on. The Lizzy Wizzy quest has a Mikoshi rep talking with her manager. The only people getting into Mikoshi and enjoying eternal life are the ones that can afford the price tag. The others? Well, Arasaka has already Soulkilled a fair amount of netrunners, and Johnny suspects they're being used already. So, taking him at face value, if you prove you have skills before Arasaka comes for you, the best you can hope for is to become their attack dog.
      Second is how they create the engram: Soulkiller. As Johnny explains, Soulkiller kills you in the process of making the engram. So step one of immortality is suicide - or murder, depending on which side of the console you're on.
      Then you have the brainwashing. It's subtle, but confirmed in the game that the "souls" in Mikoshi can be reprogrammed - they are just programs after all. In the Lizzy Wizzy quest, the Mikoshi rep is asked if the engram can be altered to remove certain personality traits and he subtly implies it's possible. When talking to Johnny about Mikoshi, he outright confirms it in an optional dialogue. So for the rich and powerful, that means becoming more agreeable to Arasaka - because there's no way a megalomaniac like Saburo is letting competition eternally trip him up. For the common man who got in because Arasaka saw some value in them? Slavery. The netrunners they've already Soulkilled could cripple them on the net and V has the potential to defeat their top enforcer, Smasher, WITHOUT being a full 'borg conversion. If either party turned on Arasaka they could burn the company to the ground. There's no way they're getting out of Mikoshi without their loyalty ensured.
      Finally, you have the engram insertion. For this you need a compatible body. That means either taking the life of some shmuck like Saburo did to Yorinobu or cloning. Thing is, either way is murder as even a clone gains a personality through experiences in it's life until the day the engram is inserted. Even if you used it to save a terminally ill person, like V, you have to kill the person, find or create someone compatible, then murder of their personality to revive the person you were trying to save. So, congrats: you've saved an innocent life by taking an innocent life.
      From what we are told in-game, there is no beneficial use of this technology. The tech runs off murder, encourages brainwashing, and will perpetuate an eternal plutocracy enforced by an army of slaves. Every step in the process of this tech is designed to be exploited by evil people for evil purposes. As far as I am concerned, it IS straight up evil.

      I find it evil because it allows powers of oppression to stay in power, no matter what happens to them. You could shoot Saburo on the street now and he. Could just pop right back out the next day. New body, new him. And there’s nothing you can do about it.
      So it’s refusing the very simple principle of human civilisation. That powers can, will, and should change over time. Maybe not principles, as those are up to the individual, but otherwise a single person should not live forever. It’s simply foul and against what nature intends. Ideas living forever, perhaps, but not people.

      But then you take that life away, to insert another into it. It would still be saving man, by killing man.
      For the contract, I would like to see it myself, but I do doubt that in it, it's written with black on white, that Saka is allowed to do such subtle personality changes while the person is an engram of themselves, and even if it did, it can still be seen as evil, since they would be actively changing a person without them knowing.
      I'd say that the tech is not evil, but the system how it is used, with Arasaka owning it, and being the only one having a say of it.

    • @tek87
      @tek87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Supposedly, there has to be a DNA match or relation. The whole soul killer thing doesn't make sense. If Johnny can transfer to V's body even though their DNA doesn't match, then V should be able to transfer back to their own body and just reverse the DNA re-sequencing process. Of if not that, someone else's body should work just as well.

    • @joshgroban5291
      @joshgroban5291 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tek87 honestly I think the reason V and Johnny matched was because of the circumstances. Being shot, the relic being damaged at 86% before being put into your head, I think the fact that the brain is dependant on the chip is what allows Johnny to transfer.

      @@tek87 I think it’s implied that V was lucky to even match with Johnny. Every medical and tech person V ask about the relic all said it shouldn’t make sense, so that makes me think V and Johnny working was just 1 in a million kinda thing.

    • @shinkicker404
      @shinkicker404 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The chip had nanites that rewrote V's DNA. I can't remember when it was said, but I think it was Viktor telling you when you first woke up. It was rewriting your DNA to make your body compatible for Johnny. Now maybe this chip being a prototype was the next step in the process allowing someone to possess an unrelated body, and the one Saburo was on required a family link. So chances are Saburo's next body hop might not require him to body jack a son.
      Personally, I don't get why Clones aren't used. The technology is there for it in CP2077, So Saburo could have his original body just cloned over and over with his memories transferred in so he always looks the same.

      @Jay20431 In lore, the Arasaka corporation was divided into three factions, Taka (Hawk) of Yorinobu, seeking his own ends, Kiji (Green Pheasant) faction of Hanako, seeking to follow Saburo's vision, and Hato (Dove) faction, led by Michiko (Yorinobu and Hanako's niece) which is the liberal faction. All are powerful, Hanako has a freaking aircraft carrier at her disposal.
      It's almost certain that Hanako's faction, who was the one most fascinated by netrunning experiments, was responsible for day to day operations of Mikoshi, and Mikoshi isn't just a single location, but a logical network of facilities, many in orbit. Hanako applied soulkiller to Saburo's body in the aftermath of "The Heist", and hid this engram from Yorinobu and Michiko.

      @@RoseDragoness I'm saying that on a logical basis, our brains don't function like hardware and our minds don't function as software. A computer program is written and set, where as our brains and minds are constantly changing, evolving, adapting, new neurons, new pathways are created all the time, so even if you somehow manage to copy a personality. it will be no different from a machine, an android.
      In short, consciousness cannot be turned into ones and zeroes because it doesn't function that way.
      At best, if we use science fiction and the idea that our reality is a simulation, the programming, coding required for creation of a mind is beyond our comprehension as whole, a human mind is too primitive to create a machine that can replicate a constantly changing biological organism, the level of understanding required for that is that of an omnipotent ''God'' entity, or a soemthing that can transcend reality.

What controls Yorinobu's body is not the original consciousness, but digital copy without any continuity to the original. And that means it does not inherit any laws or properties from true Saburo Arasaka. Second thing is, Yorinobu was murdered.
