    I'm getting my ankle fusion tomorrow on 4/27. I'm 23 yrs old and I'm truly excited. I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to get back to my old life and finding you on TH-cam has shown me that I can and I will be able too. Thank you for the videos and for helping us understand and not be so worried.

    Hi, Thanks for all your videos, my story I’m about 4 weeks out of my ankle fusion ( 8 screws & a plate) I’ve been in a hard cast for about 2 weeks. I’m 65 years old . I’m an avid road cyclist & love to work out .& walking. There’s not much information on post operations in regards to ankle fusion so I have found your videos very informative. Obviously when you live an active lifestyle & you under go this type of surgery & initially your hopping around on one leg it could be discouraging. So again thanks for the videos. Take care 👍🏽

    Thanks for the great content. Your videos helped me make an informed decision with regard to my own ankle fusion surgery. It's been two months since my surgery and I'm just starting to put weight on it. I tumbled down the side of a waterfall while hiking 20 months ago which ultimately led to my ankle fusion. This gives me confidence that I can get out there again, albeit a little more mindful of where I step😁. Thank you so much for the video's, they really are appreciated.

My surgeon suggested that one more arthroscopy has a significant chance a failure, with the next option being a fusion. I was worried about losing an fitness lifestyle (probably slightly still am). Been doing daily 5 mile walks around town and foot/ankle stretches at night to get ready. Haven't done a trek this extreme since ankle fusions on both my feet in 2010. That said it’s not perfect, I can’t sleep very comfortably and returning to the gym has been a bit of a struggle. My arthritic pain is almost completely gone but I have noticed my foot dealing with a lot of pain more lately from compensating the lack of ankle movement. Hello, many thanks for your great channel ! I'm at end stage right ankle O-A and MBTs have significantly helped me get through these last two years. Its gotten worse and I'm now facing options of either a (1) two stage replacement (for subtalar fusing and some bone grafting cleanup in the talus then followed by a replacement) or (2) fusion of both the tibiotalar joint and also the subtalar.
    I saw your Thailand hike which was impressive. I enjoy hiking. I'm 65 and as short as 1.5 year ago I could do ~10 miles and 3000 ft altitude gain ( and very supportive lace up braces) but with much less rock scrambling than your video.
    Post operation, I would like to be able to do fire road style trails but with ~10% incline/decline. Do you have an feel for what inclines/decline % slopes you can do post fusion but with your best shoe option? Greatly appreciate any insight you have on this ... or any of you post fusion followers. Thanks!

    When you have an ankle fusion I read the bones going out to the toes work more and you eventually get arthritis in them, is that true?
    Also can you ride a mountain bike for long distance without hurting your knee or foot?
    I train in the gym a lot and use the assault bike and ski erg for cardio, will I still be able to use these?
    Can you put a fin on and scuba dive?
    Does the foot with the fusion put more pressure on the knee and impact it in the long run? Like wear it out?
    Thanks for your answers if you have the time

    Hey there. I appreciate your videos. I’m 28yrs old and after a horrible accident and failed Destraction Arthoplasty surgery. I’m scheduled to have an Ankle Fusion on May 19th next week. Honestly I am quite nervous because I had the choice between fusion or ankle replacement and I keep thinking maybe I should go with the replacement. Did your doctor tell you that you could do a replacement at any point if you ever did need to? And would you? I’m just worried about getting arthritis in my other joints… how has that been for you?

    • @anklefusionguy
      @anklefusionguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, so the replacement was mentioned by the doctor but he told me that this was usually recommended to older patients because of the short shelf life of an ankle replacement. I was told the fusion is given to younger people because it lasts longer. I haven’t had problems with arthritis in other surrounding joints but I know it is a potential problem I may face in the future. A guy commented on my videos who had fusion 15 years ago and he appears to be ok. I’m happy with my decision of the fusion because I couldn’t walk without crutches before it. It has improved my quality of life especially with using the MBT rocker bottom shoes. There are things I can’t do but to be honest I try to focus on all the things I can do which is still a lot! good luck with your surgery bro and remember there is life after fusion 💪🏼

They only fused your Talus joint right?… so for me I had a ton of scar tissue everywhere in my ankle that had also been why I had pain and no mobility anywhere so during the surgery they open up my subtalur joint and cleaned it all out to hopefully give me some better side mobility and then also lengthened my Achilles’ tendon to give me 5 more degrees for the fusion so that I would have better walking motion. The pain hasn’t been too bad but I’ve also been used to this since it’s technically my 6th surgery on my ankle within the last 2-3 years.

    Hi sir on an average what is the distance you can walk pain free without thinking about ur ankle
    .As previously told you my job is physically challenging and if incase of any emergency can a person run, sometimes we face sea storms while working on deck and its very important to run towards a solid structure and hold it .And what is the risk of developing arthritis in nearby joint.

    • @anklefusionguy
      @anklefusionguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can walk up to about 12 thousand steps a day pain free. After that I feel it. Some days I still walk 20k because of my job. I am on my feet a lot. I can’t run very well but some people can with a fusion. I can sort of run with small quick steps. I think you would be able to get to a structure on a boat because it would be a short distance. I was told by my surgeon that the joints in my foot (surrounding the ankle) and possibly the knee might get arthritis in the future. It was a risk I was willing to take because I couldn’t walk without acute pain. I needed crutches to around for 3 years. If I get arthritis in the surrounding joints I will deal with that as best I can. Good luck

    Hi! Do you have IG, FB or other social network to follow you? Of course I´m gonna have to have an ankle fusion on the next weeks/months after an old ankle fracture on 2005 and years of playing basketball as I was Michael Jordan :P
    Thanks a lot for your videos. Find you and read all the comments of the people is being a heal to prepare myself for my "next" lifestyle. Peace out.

      Running is a bit awkward but it can be done. I run a bit when I play cricket. I wouldn’t go out for a long run though, a bike is better for cardio. Climbing a mountain might be tricky depending on the angle/ steepness of it. If it’s not too steep it would be ok. If you google Steve Backshaw. He has a fused ankle and still hikes up mountains. Good luck
