@@kevinprice2274 acetylene torches wont cut thru stainless steel. They dont have anything to oxidize which is how they cut thru carbon steel so well. You would have to just melt thru it. He was saying the pin might be a vulnerability. Which, maybe. I dont see why they wouldn't make that out of stainless too along with everything else If you use a torch to cut thru it you just have to melt your way thru. It would be a really destructive process, I imagine whatever was behind it would be slag by the time you got done

He is a great picker for sure, but he is not a locksmith. What you want is something simple, which is why all the abloy padlocks are great. Just a chunk of solid hardened steel with a dual ball bearing locking mechanism. Most locks companies tend to overdo themself which ultimatley kills them in the end, take masterlock for instance.
I've watched a few of your videos looking for recommendations but have only learned techniques of how to pick locks - great demos for would be thieves; who knows how many thieves you have educated and inspired. Great public service dude...

Because the lock is so thick, I have my doubts that you'd be able to get it hot enough to melt the zinc inside using a propane or MAPP torch. You'd need an oxyacetylene torch.
electronicsNmore might melt it by directing the heat right at the core and not through the lock body. The oxyacetylene torch would probably blow holes through the lock anywhere you want them. Just might take a bit more time for the thick parts!

Yeah, good to see someone else thinks the ultra short videos are pointless. Minute and a half to talk about then pick a lock then end the video. LPL is ensuring physical security stays in business and humans rotating in multiple shifts are going to stay in business forever. I was taught in early years, locks are for gentlemen. Anyone other than a gentleman will overcome any type of door or lock given the right motivation.
Changing the core to a disc detainer certainly makes it harder to pick for most people that would try.... but other access methods are often employed. Drilling or pulling the core looks like it would be much easier on this than the previous version
LPL does not truly endorse any lock. If you pay close enough attention you realise a few things. All locks can be picked. Just a matter of how long it takes. All locks can be broken via heat, force, etc. Again just a matter of the time. Even if you find a lock that is pick proof and break in proof, the thing the lock is attached to can be cut instead. So what DOES LPL suggest for security? Well let's say it is no coincidence he is also a gun enthusiast. Locks keep honest people out. Guns keep dishonest people out.

This is interesting because I would expect the lock companies know and understand their flaws and they line up on a spreadsheet that puts those flaws up against cost and expected use. That said, I wonder if this seemingly negative exposure isn't more likely perception mining. Maybe just having the brand name appear on a high frequency hit from youtube also boosts their search engine results. Hard to know for sure but it is Interesting. Regardless of intent, I'm glad that companies look to experts in the field to test and allow it on public terms so I can make an informed decision.

LPL is allowing us the same choice. It's great when he has done locks that I've considered buying and it helps determine which one I'm happy to settle with. No lock is 100% pick-proof unless it's made of Adamantium and not required to open.
I have an attack for you. You dont even need to drill. Insert something into the keyway pulling down then with a hammer bash the front. The spring loaded pawl could be overcome with shock loads. Keep up the good videos.

Okay, now I'm pretty sure that Proven is using bogus accounts in these comments... anyone know how to verify what businesses post on their websites as "customer reviews?" Obviously Amazon or eBay verify everything, but if it's on a website like Proven's (a private website), how do you know those reviews are for real? Look at the responses in this one comment thread... Bart Simpson and Jason Black exhibit significant similarities in how they write things compared to the Proven Industries account.
I don't know why I like to watch these types of videos. All I've learned so far is that locks are for keeping honest people honest. None of them are safe from a crook.
After losing my car keys on a roller coaster 25 years ago, I was amazed to watch how quickly the AAA guy defeated my Ultra Club steering wheel lock (with round dimple key) in about 8 seconds using a drill bit. Now that I'm into locksport and after LPL's videos, I realize how ineffective both keyed & combo locks really are.
Instead of LPL and BB making lock pick tools, I'd like to see a challenge. LPL designs his dream lock for BB to pick, and BB designes his dream lock for LPL to pick. Would be interesting to see which lock is the better one.
I know you a very well rounded in all things locks. Please make a video on how to clean a real dirty/rusty/corrosive lock and/or best products to use to keep them working like a well oiled machine.
Finally a Sparrows prototype!! The lock is not easy to pick for a inexperienced disc tumbler picker. What you and Bosnian bill need to do next is design a lock.
It’s unbelievable they would put out a product where you have to first lock it, then shake/twist the key several times inside the lock to, you know, actually lock the thing. If there’s no visual, audible, or tactile feedback ala a typical padlock, you end up with the Schrodinger’s cat of locks. It’s the first lock ever that’s simultaneously both locked and not locked. Like the cat, there’s no way to know for sure if it’s dead without opening the box - here, trying to pry the core loose.
I would make a shim out of the thickest feeler gauge that fits, cut it in a shape so that jiggling and pulling would retract the locking mechanism. But in 2:30, it is visible how hard the spring is, so this might be not possible in the end.
@LockPickingLawyer Those spring-loaded latch... It could be shimmed? With a flat L-shaped custom shim? (Maybe with some up-bent edge on the inside, where it contacts with the latch. There seems a lot of room for this...)
First thought that came to mind is shimming it with a kinda hook shaped shim that you can reach behind the locking lug and pull back slightly to press in the locking lug since its wedge shaped from the behind.
With a spring loaded locking mechanism like this, is if possible to shove a shim in between the core and body? Maybe one cut with a backwards angle so you insert the shim, twist around to the top, and pull hard to open the lock?

A bit off topic... A bit over 10 years ago my father and I went geocaching and encountered our first (unexpected) lock-picking geocache. The logbook was visible in a clamp jar and the lid was locked with a small padlock. While I was thinking what to use to pick the lock, my father was just pushed a bit on the steel wire and unhinged the lid. The lock was useless. ;)

@@cb7172 Totally with you! That pop-up locking-lug actually locks into the "sleeve" (the round tube thing) and then it also needs to be able to lock into the padlock body itself. So you're right, if you can find a way to get that lug to move down enough, it would first come out of the body and, ultimately, out of the sleeve itself. Even Medeco and Abloy cores (of this type) are the same way... spring loaded. We have all of them here as we use them to test the locks coming off our machines for Cobra. I still think it would be a bit tricky to get that attack to work thought if the lock is made right...
Was thinking the same, a suitable wide shimstock with an cut a bit in on one side, add some electrical tape to the end for grips (or maybe use a plier), slide in past the lug, jiggle to the side, pull out.
LPL, the length of the legs on your pick would preclude it's use on this lock when installed on a door. I'd still like seeing you pick locks in the position that would be found in service.

Could you slide a thin piece of metal shaped like a Jim above the core and trip the door latch like locking pawl? It seems like it would be possible if there is much of a gap between the core and lock body.

There appears to be enough room between the core and the body to fit a hooked shim back in there, skipping drilling altogether.
I was wondering about this as well. I'm not convinced it would be as easy as it looks, but I saw the spring loaded mechanism and had to wonder.
The other fun option would be drilling out the set screw instead of the back behind the lug perhaps. Depending what it's locked onto.

This is interesting because I would expect the lock companies know and understand their flaws and they line up on a spreadsheet that puts those flaws up against cost and expected use. That said, I wonder if this seemingly negative exposure isn't more likely perception mining. Maybe just having the brand name appear on a high frequency hit from youtube also boosts their search engine results. Hard to know for sure but it is Interesting. Regardless of intent, I'm glad that companies look to experts in the field to test and allow it on public terms so I can make an informed decision.

LPL is allowing us the same choice. It's great when he has done locks that I've considered buying and it helps determine which one I'm happy to settle with. No lock is 100% pick-proof unless it's made of Adamantium and not required to open.

Proven Industries That’s not true... not sure what the misunderstanding is, but I got it from a Texas address (I still have the box), after the delivery was offered by a twitter account opened in 2012 under a variation of the name Steve. Greg had nothing to do with this.
Okay, now I'm pretty sure that Proven is using bogus accounts in these comments... anyone know how to verify what businesses post on their websites as "customer reviews?" Obviously Amazon or eBay verify everything, but if it's on a website like Proven's (a private website), how do you know those reviews are for real?
Look at the responses in this one comment thread... Bart Simpson and Jason Black exhibit significant similarities in how they write things compared to the Proven Industries account.
I don't know why I like to watch these types of videos. All I've learned so far is that locks are for keeping honest people honest. None of them are safe from a crook.
After losing my car keys on a roller coaster 25 years ago, I was amazed to watch how quickly the AAA guy defeated my Ultra Club steering wheel lock (with round dimple key) in about 8 seconds using a drill bit. Now that I'm into locksport and after LPL's videos, I realize how ineffective both keyed & combo locks really are.
Instead of LPL and BB making lock pick tools, I'd like to see a challenge. LPL designs his dream lock for BB to pick, and BB designes his dream lock for LPL to pick. Would be interesting to see which lock is the better one.
I know you a very well rounded in all things locks. Please make a video on how to clean a real dirty/rusty/corrosive lock and/or best products to use to keep them working like a well oiled machine.

It’s unbelievable they would put out a product where you have to first lock it, then shake/twist the key several times inside the lock to, you know, actually lock the thing.
If there’s no visual, audible, or tactile feedback ala a typical padlock, you end up with the Schrodinger’s cat of locks. It’s the first lock ever that’s simultaneously both locked and not locked. Like the cat, there’s no way to know for sure if it’s dead without opening the box - here, trying to pry the core loose.

I would make a shim out of the thickest feeler gauge that fits, cut it in a shape so that jiggling and pulling would retract the locking mechanism. But in 2:30, it is visible how hard the spring is, so this might be not possible in the end.

@LockPickingLawyer Those spring-loaded latch... It could be shimmed? With a flat L-shaped custom shim? (Maybe with some up-bent edge on the inside, where it contacts with the latch. There seems a lot of room for this...)

First thought that came to mind is shimming it with a kinda hook shaped shim that you can reach behind the locking lug and pull back slightly to press in the locking lug since its wedge shaped from the behind.
With a spring loaded locking mechanism like this, is if possible to shove a shim in between the core and body? Maybe one cut with a backwards angle so you insert the shim, twist around to the top, and pull hard to open the lock?

A bit off topic... A bit over 10 years ago my father and I went geocaching and encountered our first (unexpected) lock-picking geocache. The logbook was visible in a clamp jar and the lid was locked with a small padlock. While I was thinking what to use to pick the lock, my father was just pushed a bit on the steel wire and unhinged the lid. The lock was useless. ;)

Nice video, but I’d like to see the pick work when the lock is flat against a trailer or van door like it is meant to be. Seems like there wouldn’t be nearly as much clearance?

Would it be possible to get some kind of shim/ hook around the core to disable the locking lug?
It would be kind of tricky as long as the core/lug was properly locked. They are spring loaded for sure, but the springs tend to be pretty tight.
I wondered the same thing, and found this comment before I posted.

@@cb7172 Totally with you! That pop-up locking-lug actually locks into the "sleeve" (the round tube thing) and then it also needs to be able to lock into the padlock body itself. So you're right, if you can find a way to get that lug to move down enough, it would first come out of the body and, ultimately, out of the sleeve itself. Even Medeco and Abloy cores (of this type) are the same way... spring loaded. We have all of them here as we use them to test the locks coming off our machines for Cobra. I still think it would be a bit tricky to get that attack to work thought if the lock is made right...
Was thinking the same, a suitable wide shimstock with an cut a bit in on one side, add some electrical tape to the end for grips (or maybe use a plier), slide in past the lug, jiggle to the side, pull out.
LPL, the length of the legs on your pick would preclude it's use on this lock when installed on a door.
I'd still like seeing you pick locks in the position that would be found in service.

Yeah, that first flaw is enough to immediately disqualify it in my mind. When I lock a lock, I want it to be locked. I don't want to have to go through more steps than just turning the key, because eventually I'll forget

Could you slide a thin piece of metal shaped like a Jim above the core and trip the door latch like locking pawl? It seems like it would be possible if there is much of a gap between the core and lock body.
