    "and that's why this lock was fairly easy to pick." Easy for LPL! Not for normal people. Not even for skilled normal people. I'm starting to think we are all looking at one of the greatest Lock-Pickers of all time.

    I was driving Lyft last night, and when my passengers and I passed beneath the I-405 Fremont bridge in NW Portland, OR, we saw a suspicious character hovering around the door of a large, white SUV.
    "That looks suspicious," I said.
    "Yeah," agreed the frontseat passenger. I turned right onto NW Thurman, but the road was closed 100 feet ahead. I backed up to NW 15th to try another road.
    The passenger peered into the right rearview mirror when I backed up. "Yep, he's breaking into it..."
    I thought of you, smiled, and drove on, chuckling.

  • @huxleypig69
    @huxleypig69 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is interesting take on the DD principle; the key would suggest that there are more discs than there are. The last disc in the lock is a fixed 5 disc and it has a large space behind it that the 0 cut on the tip of the key goes in. I am guessing that this is for key retention as when rotated 90 degrees the 0 cut will be trapped behind the fixed 5 disc. And yet there is no actual 0 disc at the rear, it is driven from the front. So it would be possible to tension that fixed 5 disc, if you wanted.

    I suspect the shoddy "rebranding" is because the lock was made after hours as a "ghost run": a UK firm designed and ordered the lock and someone at the factory made a bunch of extras to sell off the books. The "rebranding" only needs to be good enough to hide it from the original firm in the Amazon listing. In a slightly backhanded way, someone out there must appreciate the design.

      Locks don't have to be perfectly strong, just strong enough to not be the weakest point of failure. On a house, burglars aren't likely to try picking when they can just break through a window, for instance.
      Most commercial door locks are good enough, and even a Masterlock is a visual deterrent on a toolbox, though there's nothing wrong with going up a step or two for your own peace of mind.
      That said, please don't give money to Masterlock or their subsidiaries, if only for a personal "vote with your wallet" reason from the locksport community.

    Did a quick scroll through your videos. I didn’t see but maybe didn’t look hard enough, have you done the Sesame brand combination locks? I get them from Tacoma Screw. Watching you walk through these locks like they not even in there as a little disconcerting. I live in Washington state and our legislature has passed i1639 which contains, among many other egregious nonsense, requires safe storage of firearms. It specifies locks or safes that can’t be opened with “common tools”. After watching your videos it would seem literally impossible to comply. Are there any locks that might actually comply?

    Can you test out the Oxford Boss Disc Alarm Lock?

      That would be very public interest. Half the bikers in the world probably use some variation of the Oxford disc detainer locks...

    When is the pick that you and Bill made going to be available? Any updates?
    I'm still using the cheap Chinese pick, but I can't open anything with it!

    Your videos have prevented me from buying a lock for my bicycle...so what’s a good lock that can’t be picked???

    • @mr.bobcyndaquil4214
      @mr.bobcyndaquil4214 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      None that I'm aware of, but picking attacks are incredibly rare in the wild. Brute force protection is more relevant.

    There's sumbin strange about that rebrand. Did this cost more than the multisafe equivalent? If so, the rebranding company isn't one I would buy anything from.

    I am a novice lock security penetrator but given the spring detent on the shackle would this be subject to kinetic bypass ala McnallyOfficial?

    All in all, not a bad lock for $17 or so, I really only know 2 people with a tool Bosnian Bill and LPL made =)
    Speaking of Bosnian Bill, him picking up a CNC is sort of scary if I was a lock.

    Can you recommend a good shutter lock available in Europe? Hardened-steel body, hardened shackle 7mm in thickness (cannot be thicker) and with a highly pick-resistant core. Drill-protection disc would be nice. Which is the best one you have encountered?
