  • Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has gotten a ton of hate directed at it for failing to properly close out the world's biggest franchise. But did it actually fail? Or is this giant mess of a film actually a ton of fun? Yes, yes it is. Or at least, I think so.

    • @RaikenXion

Agreed the internet does get very toxic often, that said the "Media" greatly manipulate people's opinions on all sorts of issues, especially concerning the Star Wars Franchise and it's fans.
It was the media who stoked fires and aggravated the fanbase concerning Episode 8 TLJ. Those that did not like that movie in the ST were not allowed to voice their opinion, and were shouted down and called "ists" for criticizing TLJ.
The media just straight out hailed the movie, very much just like the film "The Joker". Remember when the media did nothing but attack that film? Claiming it would cause trouble and stir up incels.
Yet when the movie came out a majority or people loved it, did really well at the boxoffice and you never heard about any such trouble surrounding it's release.
The internet is very TOXIC, its very much a FACT that there are "toxic fans" and "bad apples" inside of every fanbase going, but these are a very small minority of the overall fan base, its the "MEDIA" which manipulate public opinion.

Ep 8 is my second favourite movie of the franchise, and even though, i dont think ep 9 was against it, maybe just a little with the debate about Rey's origin. And for me, the best thing of the trilogy got its perfect and deserving Ending, which is Reylo for me. It has a lot of pacing problems, sense of urgency and consequence, for it is a little coward in its choices. But its pretty good. Not bad, not great, but pretty good. And has the best scene in the trilogy, Kylo's redemption.

I’m getting so much more out of this movie by hearing perspectives on why it was great! At first I was really conflicted about TRoS. Now I’m eager to see it again. As for expansion and payoff, I believe everything they introduced (peasants connecting to force, ambiguous force alignment, the unknown regions, etc.) is so they can explore these issues in future mega-events. Maybe they’ll even explore Rose or queer representation more?

  • @michellesmith3837

Totally agree! Is this a amazing movie... no, but is it a really fun and good SW movie...yes! This movie is so much fun and perfectly brought things in from the past. Rey and Kylo’s arcs were perfectly wrapped up in a way that enriched the whole sequel trilogy for me!

  • @KireiC
    @KireiC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I still feel disappointed by TROS overall - from my first viewing of TFA, honestly, was that I hoped Kylo/Ben would *not* just get a redemption in death (technically he got a little redeemed screentime prior, but just barely) and, well. Yeah. Here we are. I'm probably biased on that one point alone, leaving aside other issues.
BUT - I liked alot of the same things you did! Exogol was spookily awesome. The theme of choosing your own way and not being defined by bloodline is great (wish it hadn't been shoehorned in this late, but ok). And so on!
So I'm still sad I didn't get more of what I hoped for, but it's pretty nice to see the positives through someone else's eyes. And believe me, expanding the universe beyond the nostalgia is something I'm here for. :)

What I love the most about the "Rey Skywalker" moment is, as a child of adoption (twice, no less), pretty moving. Your family isn't who birthed you, but who accepts you for who you are.
I also utterly agree about the problems with the entire trilogy, and the ambitions (failed or no) of the Prequels. I kinda wish Disney had used the treatment Lucas prepared, and given it to other creatives to flesh out. The trilogy desperately needed a coherent vision and plan.

They’d rather nitpick and tear the movies down because they are expecting Empire Strikes Back perfection. I’m sort of glad the Saga is over because the fandom are mostly miserable people who need to move on from the franchise. It’s nice to see a positive review as I enjoyed this video. • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

There were some things in The Last Jedi that got me really excited for where it might go next. Killing the ersatz-Emperor character and revealing that the same people are profiteering from both the First Order and the Resistance left me hoping the final part would be really going behind the curtain and having Rey, Finn, Rose, Poe and Chewie (and eventually Ben) face off against a very different kind of villain than we'd seen before, so bringing back the Emperor was to me kind of a boring choice, since that guy was already a done deal.
I disagree that it had an impossible task. I just don't think Chris Terrio was quite up to the task of following Lawrence Kasdan and Rian Johnson. Someone could've, I'm sure (like...Lawrence Kasdan AND Rian Johnson). But some would argue that Rian Johnson wasn't up to the task of following Lawrence Kasdan either, so it's hard to make any objective statements when there's no consensus about the previous chapter (I loved it, but it was clearly the kind of weird that doesn't appeal to everyone).
But there's no sense dwelling on what could have been. For what it was, I couldn't quite bring myself to hate this movie either. It didn't really grip me like The Last Jedi did, but it was mildly entertaining and I can sort of see what it was trying to do (although the convoluted stack of macguffins to arbitrarily slow our heroes down was a bit much). It's the Return of the Jedi of this trilogy.

  • @stevespain6445
    @stevespain6445 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

For me the prequels and the sequels lost the fundamentals, which were so heavily influenced by the works of Joseph Campbell. I find it weirder that Lucas lost that considering he was the one that acknowledges the first three were heavily influenced by that. The Force and the Jedi are a wonderful mix of Taoism and Buddhism. While the Hero's Journey is a central theme, if you leave out the detail of those spiritual influences on the story arcs, then you have failed before you start, as it would be. Yes, Lucas forgot his audience, and both Lucas and Disney's teams let their ego overtake the stitching that held together the hero's journey in the form that the original trilogy demands. I find it is a rare reviewer that bothers to explore that level of internal consistency. While the audience doesn't have to "get it" I argue the story-teller most certainly does, and every one of them has failed in this regards. The Midichlorians thing of the prequels was both internally inconsistent, a retcon, and totally unnecessary. Similarly was Luke's (and by extension the next generation of Force users after Luke and Leia) journey in the sequels, and why Mark Hamill was so obviously at odds with the directors, producers, and writers. The was an attempt in the dyad, but the words weren't backed up with a core journey of their own over the three sequels - it was instead scattered. There's a long essay to write here, I believe, on the failure to live up to the influence of Joseph Campbell and in particular two of his works "The Hero With a Thousand Faces" and "The Masks of God" The sequels ought to have been a journey into the union of Light and Dark, which was far more interestingly done in Star Wars: Rebels - way, way more interestingly done. To see the Jedi & the Sith move beyond dualism - that metaphor of the death of the two providing the birth of something greater than the sum of each. That is but one area of critique. For me after the prequels and the first two installments of the sequels, I went into the last installment not expecting much at all, and found even less. I'm less interested in which was worse of the six films produced after the original trilogy (which yes have their own issues, nostalgia doesn't take that away), and less interested also with the "saving graces" in the Disney mess - I am far more interested in imagining what ought to have be considering what the fundamentals of the first three films demanded and never happened. I'm probably in a small minority in that regard.

I dunno Jessie... I don't think I agree with your view that the RoS is not "undoing" TLJ, but rather building off the lessons of TLJ ... by rejecting those lessons?
Undoing vs. rejecting... it seems like a distinction without a difference.
But even if I were to agree, the execution in how RoS treats the building blocks of TLJ seems really iffy. Let's take as an example the scene with Luke's ghost: when he catches the lightsaber, he says "A jedi's weapon deserves more respect", instead of something that would tie into TLJ respectfully like "I understand how you feel, I once felt hopeless, too. But YOU helped me see that I was wrong to shut myself away."
Instead the scene goes on to reinforce Rey's lineage as the source of her fear (which was something she confronted and overcame at the end of TLJ), and then tells her to face Palpatine not for her, but because otherwise it's he "end of the Jedi and the war", and thus externalizing the conflict from the main character.

It reminds me that the world did not learn the lessons of World War I and we forced to repeat it again in world War 11 . The same way the star War movies could be so much more such as how did they allow second order to come into power and why didn't Luke and Leia stop it, as it was just as evil as emperor. Again no lessons learned and now that Raye has defeated evil what comes next ? Her picking up the mantel of leadership or allowing another evil empire?

    • @unfortunatelyevil1767
      @unfortunatelyevil1767 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@2manynegativewaves Which plot, the movie or the saga?
The movie has 3 main plots. I also appreciate that it includes an epilogue for The Last Jedi, showing that the character development the side characters went through actually stuck.
The first main plot is the classic hero's journey for Rey. We see her normal, which is having trouble with training. The call to action of the macguffin quest, which comes with the initial refusal. We then watch her struggle with her powers and which side she will land on (far more up in the air than Luke).
The second plot is the redemption plot. Redemption plots are similar to hero's journey plots, and Ben hits them all, and they chose the final sacrifice option to end it (Similar to Vader, but we actually get to see Ben's journey).
The third plot is the end of Palpatine's failure to change plot.
Basically, the plot of the Rise of Skywalker is the plot of Episodes 4-6, just laser focused on the actual plot, with less fluff.
For the saga, well the saga plot is all about Palpatine, as seen from outside.

I love this analysis you gave, as it voices thoughts I've been having for weeks now! It baffles and disappoints me how many Star Wars fans out there are centering their focus on every plot-hole and inconsistency they can find, instead of focusing on the overarching messages given in this film. (Bloodlines and pasts not defining futures, the role of community in withstanding against evil, redemption always being a possibility, etc. The list goes on and on!) If you go into a movie expecting the worst or set on finding every problem, you'll miss everything good about it and will have an incomplete view of the movie.
And hating on it will only give others a flawed view of it too -- worse, they might not even bother seeing it themselves, thus severely limiting their opinions and knowledge of the film to what others think, and not basing it off of their own ideas or thoughts. I am completely for sharing opinions and beliefs, but why go on and on, raging against a movie that has good parts, too? No movie is perfect, but very few are pure trash. This one has its moments, and I think they have every right to be represented along with everything else.

Inf fact, I think it IS feminist because Rey gets to deal the winning blow against the Emperor all by herself, and doesn't need a guy to do it for her. At the same time, however, this movie dealt with those ideas wisely, as it also took care to emphasize the need for community in general. Rey was able to defeat the Emperor by herself, but she couldn't do that and still have the energy to live. It took Ben raising her back to life. Ben couldn't make the leap and accept redemption without his parents' love and guidance and Rey's mercy. The Resistance couldn't defeat the Final Order without the help of a fleet of civilians. It takes a community to confront evil and win the battle. But what's special about this movie is that we finally get a female at the front, leading them on!

@@naomigertz7901 Exactly, this! That was the way I interpreted it too. I just don't get how it is antifeminist. But they say that she is shown to much like the forever virgin and child an does not grow enough and it its all in the symbolic, but honestly, I just don't see it.
Also, amazing analysis about community in this movie too.

14:17 I have to disagree with that, may be the way you see it but it just blatantly feels like shes just stealing the Skywalker name. Now if Rey were to go on to train a new generation of Jedi and then give them the title of "Skywalker", so John - Skywalker, Kate - Skywalker. Thats still making them someone using the name that comes from a well known lineage.
What about Rey just simply defining who she is as a individual and not needing to take any name at all? The ST just gives contradictory messages, because Rian clearly wanted to express the message that she is no-one and doesnt need to be from some big house/name or lineage.
I think the whole thing of Rey taking the Skywalker name at the end really boils down to Jbrams realizing this trilogy is supposed to be of the "Skywalker Saga", cant end it without any "Skywalkers".

First of all - looking good, Jessie.
Second - the one thing I actually hate about the Disney movies is the whole "totally-not-that-well-known-planet-but-still-essentially-the-same-planet" thing.
I know Disney need to affirm that it's their own Star Wars now, but this is not the way ffs.

Thank you for this. I feel like there is so much hate for this movie, but I thought it was a fun romp. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. There is so much to like though, and a lot of messages of value mixed in that I feel a lot of people missed.
On a funny note: I noticed a lot of my main issues with this movie seem to come down to kissing. The two people who should have kissed, did not. Two people who I absolutely did not want to kiss, did do so. The one kiss I liked did not get enough build-up, and will be cut in certain regions of the world. I am not a huge fan of kissing in movies in general, but honestly, they could at least have gotten one completely right!

honestly I wasn't excited going in to this movie, not because I didn't like the previous two, because I actually really liked them; the problem was all the dumb, frustrating arguments i had with people who hated them for various reasons, some justified and some ridiculous. before going I wasn't even sure I really wanted to see it...thankfully I did go. It's not perfect, it's not even close, there were a few scenes and plot points that really pulled me out of the story, like finally finding out Rey's heritage should have made me feel something, instead i was left thinking "ok, can we get on with the movie now please...", thankfully J.J. was thinking the same thing because the movie doesn't even bother to pause on some of it's emotional beats long enough for them to take much effect...but, regardless of this, something kept happening to me throughout the movie. A welling up of emotion, a flood I struggled to hold back, so much so that by the end of the movie I thought was going to start ugly crying in the middle of the cinema. I wonder if it's possible that as movie goers we've forgotten how to watch films, how to suspend disbelief and just go on a journey, be passive observers as though in a dream...I mean i don't know that i necessarily believe that's the issue with this particular movie but it's just a thought i had when reading and listening to some of the reviews. The more probable answer is that Star Wars has become such a massive franchise that it's made it impossible to keep everyone happy. People complained about The Force Awaken because it was a rehash, people complained about The Last Jedi because because it destroyed everything that was setup in TFA and that and people complained about The Rise of Skywalker because it destroyed everything setup in TLJ. Personally I think dissenting voices will always be louder, I mean the people who liked the movie don't have a lot to complain about. Also i agree with you about Chewbacca, it was one of my only peeves about TFA that Chewie doesn't seem to grieve with us about the loss of Han, and Chewie possibly experiences more loss than anyone over the course of these movies so I'm glad they addressed that in this one.

I think if you like TROS or even the Disney Trilogy in general fair enough but you cannot deny the FACT they had NO PLAN whatsoever. I dont defend TROS at all, and especially not for Jbrams returning to the awkward situation of closing off a trilogy that didnt know what it wanted to be; because its in many ways JJ. Abrams fault in the first place for not planning things out meticulously, for not coming with a solid backstory for why Luke Skywalker was in exile so that he could give all that crucial info to Rian to work from going into his movie.
"to pay respect to EVERYTHING that had come before and yet do something completely NEW." Now the thing here is im going to assume that you and many others believe that those two things represented opposing sides and views of fans.
The truth is a majority of us fans actually wanted BOTH of those things, we practically demanded them to stay true and respect what had came before, but we were also very much open-minded to doing something new also; and is this practically an impossible feat to pull off? I don't think so!
The Avengers and MCU movies in general pay huge respect to the classic comics ofwhich they are adapted from, yet they also do very different things, i know some will hate using Marvel as a example and i'm not even saying Star Wars movies should be like Marvel movies not at all!
I'm simply focusing on how the MCU is quite grounded in a level of "realism", and the writers and directors of those movies manage to adapt many of the comic-book arcs that were alot of stories from the past decades (60s/70s/80s) and make them work in our modern, digital era.
Look at what the Russos did very differently with Thanos from his comic-book iteration alone, yet that character is still 100% true to his comic book origins.
This is the approach that should have been taken with the "Sequel Trilogy", yet Jbrams was too scared to even created anykind of backstory to anything, to any of those characters that would even go anywhere outside of what we know. He even had Finn! A FORCE SENSITIVE STORMTROOPER!!! So many have friggin pointed out already, and yet Abrams in his last movie ep9 could not even bring himself to outright confirm that in the movie itself, he still stuck to his crappy, empty and shallow "Mystery Boxes"!
Is Finn Force Sensitive!? Who knows? Find out next time on blah, blah, blah and if that is later confirmed in some upcoming comic its a good but kind of bad thing cause it really should have been in the movie.

  • @RaikenXion
    @RaikenXion 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I can give many examples of NEW, DIFFERENT ideas being introduced into the Sequel Trilogy, ofwhich you could work into the overall story AND still not affect anything from the past, or break any rules.
    1. Snoke originating from OUTSIDE of the Galaxy, this is a very original and DIFFERENT idea because we have never really known or heard of what else is outside the actual Galaxy of Star Wars(other than Yuzhan Vong from EU). Those stories are always centered "in a Galaxy, Far, Far Away..."
So to have a new villain of the darkside who came from possibly another Galaxy entirely and has now emerged in the Star Wars Galaxy thats interesting, and would give Snoke so much weight cause then you can go into and explore all kinds of ideas for who he is, exploring ancient darkside lore.
    2. A individual who has been experimenting with the dark side of the force to artificially imbue force sensitivity in a being. This is a very different possibly even controversial idea, the force has never been conjured up in some way before. You're either born force sensitive, but even Palpatine once described the darkside of the force and how it works as "unnatural". So this would have been a interesting element to explore.
    3. A force sensitive growing so powerful in the force they can destroy a entire planet through their own natural ability of using force power. This one may sound incredibly OTT but just think back for a moment and remember when Darth Vader once told Imperial Officers that “The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force.” Did he possibly mean if one were to focus their power, to train and become powerful enough in the force, they could alone use the force to destroy a planet itself!? And Vader didn't even mention the darkside he just said "the force" itself, Vader never liked the artificial construct of the Death Stars he just followed his master's plan and saw them as a necessary tool in that overal plan. Vader believed in loyalty, and patience himself growing stronger in the force despite his suit and prosthetic limbs.
Also remember what Yoda says about judging by size and how size is insignificant next to thr power of the force. If a force sensitive (Jedi or Sith) is able to use a ability like force-crush, to crush something like a person's wind-pipe to a actual metal, steel pipe. and even push or throw objects.
Whats to say a individual powerful enough in the force, and if they trained immensely focusing their ability over a period of time could attain such a power as to destroy a entire planet, through use of the force alone.
    4. Finn's force sensitivity is a huge idea thats never been explored not even in the EU entirety. And i can completely see why so many fans get annoyed because the character of Finn simply had so much potential, JJ was either just too dumb or so obsessed with his mystery boxes; as to come up with the idea that what if Finn is force sensitive and just doesnt even realize it? I mean it makes sense and greatly answers perfectly, how Finn was able to break free of the FO conditioning.
There was many directions they could have taken the ST and done things very differently, at sametime as stay true to what had came before. It never needed to come down to a situation where the only choice is to choose one or the other.
I believe the reason why they may have felt stuck in that situation was because the specific writers and directors hired just did not have the "imagination" and talent enough to think out of the box, and do something ballsy, but still have enough knowledge and understanding of what George Lucas created.
I firmly believe if we had director's like George Miller and Christopher Nolan they would have knew exactly how to take things in a whole "Different" direction for the "Sequel Trilogy", but have enough understanding of George Lucas' Skywalker Saga, to know how to stay completely true and respect those Six Episodes that came before.

I had mixed feelings on the Rise of Skywalker. First time I saw it, I was just shocked and stunned and a little angry. But I do not trust myself when I have reactions like that about Star Wars movies, and I kind of think I had that reaction because the film wasn't the movie I had hoped it would be. So I waited until I was calm and went to see it again, and on the second viewing I had a good time. I still don't think it's a great movie, and yes, it was a mess, but I was able to enjoy it.

Kadeem Gomez Actually the haters love the originals and Star Wars as a whole. The reason why they hate the Sequels is because their expectations are set so high and they don’t like it. But the Sequels destroyed the legacy characters and the original story. Along with that the laws of the universe were broken beyond anything in the past and the story of the Sequels was a massive ripoff of the originals.

I thought there were six good movies that had been Frankensteined together into the one movie that was Rise of Skywalker and it is not so good. However I did basically enjoy watching it, which is more than a lot of movies manage. I think if maybe they picked one movie and ran with it the effect would have been better though as you say it may have been an impossible task to really cap off the nine movie epic. As you say though it was a mess, there was just so much of it, I think I understand the people who just hate it. After all "Too much is never enough."
I agree strongly with your point that it does not really contradict or retcon the Last Jedi, I mean basically the scene with Luke just recapitulates in something like 2 minutes the main character arc of the Last Jedi, other than the bloodline thing (which as you point out we can read as it refuting in a somewhat different way), I don't think it disagreed at all. However I guess people needed the Last Jedi recapitulated to them because judging from the reactions to it, they did not get those things out of the Last Jedi, more evidence if we need it that as Obi-wan said "many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."
I actually like Phantom Menace more than Attack of the Clones, probably even Revenge of the Sith, although really to confirm that opinion I would need to rewatch any of them and I'm not inclined to do that.

13:06 But its how quickly she just learns that ability thats the frickin annoying thing about that!? It is very interesting that she draws on the darkside using such a ability (which would maybe be like forbidden by the Jedi of the Prequel era), that is a interesting thing.
Look i feel the mentor figures should have been around right until the last episode and then we could learn that Rey and Kylo realize they can find themselves. The whole thing is just frustrating to me! Because its not executed in a solid way.
Big characters are just killed off quickly because the filmmakers want to make way for the main characters and keep focus on them; and we all want to follow Kylo and Rey! Whats their story? But it still needed Luke and even Snoke to be around in some capacity i think, not just discarded like they were they should have been around till atleast ep9.
Even though i'll admit you make some good points, i still cant change my mind toward the ST, i HATE it! because alot of ideas had potential and just nothing is done with it.
This ST really needed directors like Christopher Nolan to come in a do some good with it, Nolan and even Villenuve i think would have knew exactly how to flesh out and develop Kylo and Rey properly, that conflict and whole "Yin/Yang" thing going on between them and how they need to find somekind of middle-ground through it all.
I have no respect for JJ and Rian, remember it was actually Micheal Arndt who penned the first script and those ideas, worked from elements of George Lucas's own treatments (which JJ ripped alot of stuff off from, like Luke being in exile).
I hate the ST for how it turned out overall, im never going to give any of it a pass not even for the small things like Force Sensitive Finn, or even interesting Kylo and ideas behind him because it was all just executed so poorly, and badly in the end.
I will rue the day when the "Disney Trilogy" ends up NON-CANON!!

I loved TROS 3 out of the 5 times I've seen it so far. I have defended it and pointed out its strengths, and recently I have started conceding its glaring faults. After reading Colin Trevorrow's script for Episode IX (which was a great read) I now see even more how this movie could have been more imaginative, and a more solid cap off to both this trilogy, and the saga as a whole.
However, none of that changes that TROS was an amazing experience in the theater that I'll always remember. It's still an incredibly fun movie, even if it's messy and has several missteps. As for Colin Trevorrow's Episode IX, it's impossible to know for sure if it would have been better if they had actually made it.
Guess I'll stick to that balance you mentioned: Appreciating TROS for what it is, while also admitting it's problems so that SW can be better going forward. And I can still look at Duel of the Fates as an incredibly engaging look at what may have been.

Great video Jessie looks like you put a lot of work into it. As I said in your review I'd like the rise of Skywalker was it the best movie ever of course not but it was fun. I feel like we've forgotten how to have fun with Star Wars. I'll start out with some things I didn't like of course the Star Destroyer Armada was ridiculous but I'm not mad at him for it because in all the Avengers movies they have that big giant CGI Army that nobody could possibly be but somehow you do. We finally get to see the Knights of Ren and they were a joke they just walked around looking menacing but they never did anything even when they all got killed off they didn't really do anything. The trilogy could have been based on the extended you universe reason why Marvel has not done to Regional story in the whole time they've done the MCU and they make billions of dollars and people love those movies and every one of their ideas is just rehashed from the comics. But I get babied and use the expanded universe they gave me the force awakens which I loved they gave me the Last Jedi which I did not like but did not lose my mind and go crazy as some people did and they gave me the rising Skywalker which I thought was a good film.

Most thoughtful review I have seen so far on TROS. Thank you. I believe that the writing crippled this movie as well as too many mini-quests that distracted Abrams. You also made a good point that the scenes felt rushed so that the finale of a trilogy of trilogies could have used more time to breath. There are scenes especially like on Endor with Rey, Kylo's , and then Han on the wrecked Death Star where you could feel the potential for the whole movie. And Poe and Finn didn't need almost love interests who really did nothing for the story. However, Jannah's backstory of Stormtroopers who are disillusioned and join the fight would have been a great stepping stone showing the spark of resistance spreading . Thank god for the Reylo storyline.

After finishing the video I feel like you pretty well summed up how I felt about it as well.

OMG this is the best defense, I've seen for this movie! Great analysis, I'm glad to see a more positive prospective of it! 👏🏾

Really great review of this movie, I admit while it has some flaws overall I had fun and enjoyed the movie. Thanks Jessie for this really great 👍

It wasn’t as good as it could be. I was surprised that it was as good as it was. The more I reflect on the franchise episode 8 being so amazing has pretty much destroyed any hope of the franchise ever living up to episode 8.
All and all it was fun.

I love your videos. Your analysis here is refreshing and has made me look at this movie differently. I’m going to have to politely disagree with you on a few things as I see more issues with this movie than you but I can see why you like it.

Haha yeah. It’s not the worlds best film and it’s bad, but I enjoy it in a “turn it on while I’m cleaning the house” kind of way

Maybe it's just me, but the first half of this was you telling the trans story. (Minus the gazillion ships.)

I don't mind the Black characters interacting with each other. I wish there was a scene where they were all interacting with each other in addition to them interacting with all the various characters.

Yeah, it was quite good. Not as good as the revenge of the Sith but better than attack of the clones.
