    We were already separated. When I moved out she had a laundry list of items I needed to do before I could move back. A few months later I tried to talk to her about the things I needed her to change before I would want to come back. She told me she didn't need to change anything and wouldn't even hear a syllable of it. When I started to tell her what I wanted she hung up. I told her I wanted a divorce a few days later.

    The time my (now ex-) wife wished she had peanuts to eat. We were on our way into an office that had posted big signs stating the receptionist had a severe peanut allergy and to please not bring in any nut-based food/snacks into the office.

    We were separated at the time but still communicating with each other. I found a large lump behind my nipple and I was worried to death about it....my kids were preschoolers at the time. Contacted my estranged husband and told him what was going on...he says, "Well I'm sure gonna miss it"...I was livid...I'm scared about possibly having breast cancer and he was making a joke about it. I tell him that was a Hell of a thing to say to me and he gets angry saying he was only trying to get me to laugh and cheer me up. Long story short, it turned out to be an abcess, no cancer. It was at that moment I realized he was never going to change and decided to proceed with the divorce. Had he played his cards right we may have stayed together. Making jokes about a cancer scare convinced me to get a divorce. 🤨

    8:55 like this story, my ex (boyfriend/fiance) constantly made me feel less than about things that made me happy - usually because he would follow it up with "my ex liked such & such a thing". He brought up his ex _a lot_, he was selfish (even in bed), lacked good hygiene, and COMPLAINED as if the whole world was at fault for his wet blanketry. I only stuck it out with him so that he'd shut up about his ex, and in that time found out he was still married and a father, which made me feel that much more disgusted when he wanted us to try and have kids.
    I'm glad I made it out when I did, and I'm willing to bet I missed out on a whole nuclear warhead, nevermind a bullet.

    We split on his birthday (wasn't even married a full year yet) he left for my friend while I was pregnant (2 weeks from giving birth to our son). After I had the baby we talked about fixing the marriage. I said he would have to cut out said friend. After 4 months of talking he moved back.He snuck behind my back and kept seeing her then tried to make me feel guilty saying he had to decide what he was gonna do. He. Only was there for a week.. On the day he left he went back and forth between the two of us for 2 hours. Both of us crying and begging him to stay. On the final time I finally said fuck it and told him to leave and there was no fixing our marriage. He could go to her cause I was over begging for him to stay. After 6 years of separation we both agreed we need to sign the papers and do what we had to for our son. We are both happy in other relationships. Ill be getting remarried next year to a guy I've been with for 5 years and he will too. I'm just glad we both stepped up and agreed we need to coparent and not be together cause it wasn't good for our son.

    I find it funny that people rag on arranged marriages and yet couples in arranged marriages report being all-around happier together and have a 4% divorce rate.
    I feel like that says something about these western concepts of love.

    • @bigbettybloom9107
      @bigbettybloom9107 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wouldn’t go off that statistic. Many ppl in arranged marriages aren’t allowed to leave because its more of a contact between families. Their families will disown them for divorcing their spouse. Americans get divorced more because we’re allowed that privilege. Arrange marriages aren’t based on love either. That’s the difference. Those ppl go into the relationship knowing it’s for family politics and don’t have high expectations that Americans do. Y’all concept of “love” is patriarchal. Whereas it’s a partnership here. Both have to want to be married to stay married. That isn’t the case with arranged marriages. My mom know someone who was in an arranged marriage. That poor woman was abused severely before her coworkers gave her the courage to leave.. can’t really see how ppl would be happy being stuck with a controlling abuser for the sake of their families reputation but okay…

    • @fructosecornsyrup5759
      @fructosecornsyrup5759 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigbettybloom9107 I thought like you once upon a time, then I noticed there's a lot that Western narrative is a real thing, and there's much more to it than most people realize. I'm not saying there aren't abuse cases or it doesn't have its pitfalls. Anecdotal evidence is well and good, and I feel bad for people in those scenarios, there are statistics that do report otherwise. Honestly I think the concept of love can be damaging itself, when the people that go into a relationship use it as the only reason they're getting married. When you're in an arranged marriage, chances are actually higher that you won't be going in with rose-colored glasses, because it's chosen by people that are outside of that relationship who can see the flaws and perks of both individuals. You're expected to try and work it out with your significant other, and you slowly learn to love them, rather than starting off strong and a few years down the road going "wait, what? What happened? I just don't feel it anymore."
      I'd honestly like to see data based on how many people divorce based off of abuse cases and how many are simply out of lost love or other factors. I think that would clarify a lot of things and put a couple of doubts to rest.

    He was extremely crap in bed and constantly told me how great he was, interrupting me when I gently said it was actually a turnoff for me when he did X. He thought he was a genius but he was so dim it hurt to listen to him. I also had to slowly and carefully explain, quite often, why we wouldn't be buying a time-share (80's scam) or some other crap designed to part the gullible from their money. Luckily, I had refused to share a bank account with him, due to sexually transmitted debt. Just being very good-looking was all he had. It wasn't nearly enough.
    We were renting so it was all pretty simple. I filled out the relevant forms, including his, and it was all over bar the sulking. He sulked. I felt like I'd been let out of prison.
