The Barnum effect is a phenomenon that triggers false positives when individuals give high accuracy ratings to descriptions of their personality that supposedly are tailored specifically to them, but are in fact vague and general enough to apply to a wide range of people (common when reading horoscopes, aura reading, fortune telling and even some personality tests). Have you experienced it yourselves after watching this video? Let me know...
I am a sociopath, and honesyly little of what was listed was actually told to me at the psychologists office, we rarely pose a threat to people and a lot of sociopaths dont move around steal, lie. They are just people having a hard time understanding and sometimes identifying emotions. Though there are few that give sociopaths a bad name. Ive met a psychopath before and he was arrested in the end but when i had met him he was nothing like a sociopath, and he was outwardly violent but alone he was menacing acted harshly and would kinda throw people under the bus (metaphorically) he was arrested for attempted murder and well the day after that everyone was talking about how they couldnt believe he was this, or that he could do that
Bro, Im not grammar police or anything, but when someone says "hes" instead of "his", it really triggers me. Im 15, I live in Europe, my native language isnt english. So why dont you know the common grammar -.-?

I’m diagnosed as a sociopath. It’s very hard to maintain emotional connections with friends and family. I’m constantly having to put effort in those connections but I’d do anything for them. It’s not an easy thing to learn to cope with. Most encounters with new relationships, co workers or otherwise leaves you wondering if they’re going to hurt you. I show respect but have a feeling of distrust from the very beginning. You know that you should feel happier than you are. You know you have no reason to suspect distrust from people you’ve hardly met or said more than a few words to. That’s just a few minor examples. Hope that helps people understand just a little bit better.
Psychopath: Born this way Sociopath: Born normal, but later developed sociopathy due to extreme trauma/abuse as a child. Psychopath: Not impulsive in the slightest. They think and calculate before every action. They let logic and reason run their actions. Sociopath: Highly impulsive and careless. They let emotion and anger run their actions. Psychopath: Unable to feel certain emotions. Most psychopaths are unable to feel embarrassment, anxiety, anger, love, empathy, sympathy, regret, guilt, etc. Sociopath: Have a wider range of emotions. They’re able to feel most emotions, but they have a harder time forming bonds with people and thinking clearly. They have less empathy and sympathy for people. They _can_ feel anger and rage, unlike psychopaths. Psychopath: Typically smarter than sociopaths. Sociopath: Sometimes less smart than psychopaths are, and much more reckless. Psychopath: Unlikely to be violent or ever have violent tendencies (contrary to what you see in movies, it’s rare for psychopaths to have violent urges, let alone act on them or murder people. They usually see no point in it) Sociopath: Likely to be violent. Sociopaths are likely to break things and harm people or animals in a fit of rage. Psychopath: Highly successful. These people typically have high status in society and are great at mimicking the emotions that they can’t feel. They hold their composure and calmness. They never freak out or become stressed. They work great under pressure. They seem surprisingly normal and average. Sociopath: Unlikely to become successful. Sociopaths often turn to drugs and crime. They end up in prison and they are terrible at composing themselves and functioning in society. They have little control on their emotions and impulses. Of course, every sociopath and psychopath is different, but this is typically what is seen in these disorders. The disorders are hard to diagnose. The diagnoses can only be made once the patient enters adulthood. Sociopaths are often misdiagnosed as bipolar or as having borderline personality disorder. An example of a psychopathic murderer: Ted Bundy. An example of a sociopathic murderer: Nikolas Cruz. A homicidal psychopath is more likely to commit serial murders on separate occasions and in a more careful and calculated way than homicidal sociopaths. A homicidal sociopath is more likely to murder someone out of anger, like in an argument or road rage. They’re more likely to commit mass murders than homicidal psychopaths. I hope this helps all of you!
I'm diagnosed with ASPD (sociopathy), I do hop from job to job a lot and travel a lot without setting up a home. I have emotions and bonds but I experience them differently than others. I also only have very few meaningful connections with people. I am not violent though but this video was somewhat accurate, it kind of focused on the most extreme cases of ASPD
can I ask you a question to better understand my situation... If you found an easy job with the government that allowed you to slack off often because you worked from home. like what if you only really worked like half the time but got paid super well and because of that you had the freedom to get what you wanted with ease. Basically the money allowed you to have the life you wanted, with very minimal effort. Would you keep that job?
@@ecstatica23 also have ASPD, 100% yes. That’d give you so many opportunities to do more of what you want while still having the job and a source of income, that’s exactly what I’m looking for right now.
I'm not a sociopath, I have autism and ADHD. Feelings for me towards the slightest thing can crush me sometimes. I wish I could tone it down just a little. But I can't. However I'm really really curious about other people and how they live with their struggles. I want to know everything there is to know about many people. Because 1, it's a hyperfocus. And 2 like making realistic characters. Don't like stereotypes as much as I can avoid them. Is there any stereotypes people have that I should avoid? I hope this isn't a rude request. Haha.
I was diagnosed with ASPD to I’m a sociopath I don’t really feel much besides anger but If someone makes me mad enough I’ll snap and I don’t feel sorry for what I did while I was angry I lie a lot I have lack of empathy but I can feel it but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop what I’m doing I have a big ego I like to watch people to see how their emotional is.
@Dior Linn I think so too by seeing their playlist full of BTS and it's a girl too I think Sorry for peaking but the Using "my 12yr old friend" people usually think like this person's and their friend has an age difference. You get what I mean right?
These comments are pretty funny, but let me tell you guys, I've known someone for YEARS with anti-social personality disorder and I've only realized over time how manipulative and toxic someone like this can be to your mental health and to your life, but they will guilt trip you, etc, to try to keep you in check and controllable, you won't realize you're being manipulated because people like this are MASTERS at what they do. It's just the way their heads work.
Main difference is sociopaths repress emotions/empathy, while psychopaths just don't have the emotion. Neither is irredeemably evil, but they lack the sort of emotional empathy that might help them behave "normally". One thing to keep in mind is psychopathy is studied mainly in prisons even though the majority of psychopaths are not violent or criminal and that skews the perception of their more negative behaviors. There's just not much motivation to study high functioning psychopaths. The detachment does mean, when they go bad, they can be extreme with it, but they are still capable of making moral decisions.
The majority of psychopaths are not in prison, probably don't know that the reason they have always been different from others is psychopathy, and they wouldn't just put themselves up as study subjects if they were to come to this realization on their own. Knowing for a fact whether or not you have a psychopathic brain does nothing good for you in practice. I suspect that would be little success even if there were a strong financial incentive to participate in the study. All neurotypicals trying to make a buck, no psychopaths because they wouldn't want to be tagged and released back into the wild like an animal. Psychopaths who are in prison usually have a long history of violence and make up for the overwhelming majority of the inmate violence. Just some high thoughts. I'm probably off base.
@@brosephbroheim6428 For me, it helped put a name on why/how I'm different. I hope to eventually write a sort of self-help book for psychopaths. I've had several people suggest I might have Asperger's (I know they're getting away from that term) or higher functioning Autism. But I know people with that diagnosis (along with doing general research) and there are some distinct differences. Understanding what you're dealing with can be helpful. Learning terms like "intrusive thoughts" can be helpful.
@@minimumwagesink5956 Cool, I'm curious if you want to say more about it. Right now I'm enjoying the research videos that come from Prof. Sam Vaknin for more in depth information. This man made me seriously challenge everything that I thought I knew about psychopathy, narcissism, BPD, and autism that manifests in a way that appears to be these things.
@@brosephbroheim6428 I'm still in a research phase. I have thoughts about how I want the book to go. But since I'd like it to be more general than just my personal experience, I want to get my terminology right, and hopefully work with professional psychologists on some level...even if just consulting. On the autism/psychopathy difference. The autistic people I know have told me they have very strong emotions, they just have trouble expressing them. For me on the other hand, there's many occasions where the emotions just aren't there when normal people would have strong emotional reactions. I was lucky to mostly have this interpreted as calm and maturity, but a close friend of mine said she found me scary sometimes even though I never really did/said anything scary. So having more open discussion about why that was and why I missed some cues other people would pick up on was helpful. Funnily both of my best friends are highly empathic people, so for them it explained why I seemed a little off to them in my responses. But the upside of that is I'm kind of a quiet place for them.
@@myriamguns2162 They have no clue. It's not like they are taking brain pet-scans to test brain activity on newborns and children and be like "ahah here's a psychopath". There's also no study on genetics to corroborate that theory. There's no way to know if the brain "abnormalities" have been caused by genes, affections during pregnancy, birth complications or environmental nurturing (or lack of it). Majority of people have selective empathy, how many have total disregard by the life of pedophiles or serial killers? We want them dead, we wish them pain, and that's likely...normal.
@davidvega462 hahaha, I love your answer, and by the way, as a criminology, the sociopath is still very hard to read but having more external issues, and not being able to feel emotions like the empathy
True. I've seen about 6 comments claiming that edgy kids in the comments are doing that, and only 1 person actually claiming that. I'd move it to 98%, 1%, and then a following 1% making idiotic jokes. I've seen dumb jokes of kids saying that their parents are psychos because they made them wash dishes, or took away their video games. How terrible. 😑
Vanessa Awada manipulatong others is another sign of psychopathic behavior. In the interview where he said he was sorry for his actions was all an act in hopes of not getting the electric chair. He lied to everyone
In their heads, they consider themselves normal, because they know nothing else but that. So in a way, yes, they are normal, in their own twisted world.
Sociopaths and psychopaths don’t usually admit they are one (especially psychopaths) plus it’s incredibly difficult to spot or determine if a person is a psychopath considering they are really good at acting stuff out
The two main distinctions are 1) as you pointed out, Sociopaths can feel things like love an empathy but in a limited capacity whereas psychopaths cannot feel anything at all and 2) Psychopaths are born the way they are, whereas sociopaths tend to be made the way they are by extreme trauma or abuse in childhood
I knew a girl in high school who seemed to only interact with people if it meant she could hurt them somehow. She would develop emotional relationships with depressed boys in her grade, than pressure them to commit suicide. Only one kid ever tried it, and thankfully he was unsuccessful. I don't know if she was a psychopath or just incredibly hateful, but she certainly wasn't well.
In my experience, girls who take pleasure in inflicting pain on romantic partners for self-gratification had a troubled relationship with their father. I know that sounds very cliche and I'm no psychologist but it seems to be something I observe time and time again. The nicest (or at least, the most well-adjusted) girls I dated came from stable families and had good relationships with their father.
I had a friend in highschool named Matthew Naughton. He and I had an on/off friendship that I ended up leaving because of the sadistic, manipulative person he hid from me and other mutual friends I don't talk to anymore. He did things that are reprehensible behind all our backs just so he could get off on a feeling he never naturally could have. He hurt kids, abused girls he dated, faked being gay to get drugs from this one guy, and other things I'm not comfortable sharing. I hope he gets what he dished out to so many unfortunate people who came to know him.
i hate that this entire comment section is people trying to make the same joke over and over again instead of focusing on the video, i can guarantee more than half of the people that made those mockery type jokes didn’t even actually see anyone comment about them self diagnosing themselves instead they saw everyone making jokes about people doing it and wanted the same type of gratification that everyone else was getting in the form of likes.
When I was a little child I went through extreme trauma due to my father. I was diagnosed with PTSD and predicted to be a sociopath at age 3(?). My mother said BS and I went through 10 years of therapy. I am definitely not diagnosable to be a sociopath now, but I definitely have sociopathic tendencies. I'm kind of a hybrid now. I care, but heavy enough pain can trigger an instant dissociation.
had the same problem except make me 9 for the first horrible incident, 10 for the second and third,11 for the forth, and have no ability to feel stressed in any of these incidents and make my moral compass that of jack sparrows actual compass... broken 90% of the time but functional when needed. Sooo more like a psychopath. I do have a diagnosis of ADHD but not APD cause i don't want to go through that trouble.
Nish wayz I would definitely agree with what you said, I Personally find it fun to manipulate people not in a way to hurt them or for benefit for myself but to just see how I can change and control what they do. The reason I would say what I do is not really bad because I often point this out to them, not to mention I point out to my friends when others are trying to manipulate then! Here is a way manipulation can be good. I just got my first ever girlfriend but the thing Is before we got together she was very suicidal and depressed all the time and so I made it my goal to make her happy over the period of a few days now I have actively been using her own words against her to show her why she is wrong about being worthless and other things along those lines. Even though it might be a smaller form of manipulation I would still say its a way it could be used for good rather then self gain or benefit.
I was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder years ago. I'll try to explain it from my pov. Empathy, compassion & love are foreign to me. No, I'm not some cruel heartless person as I love my sister and mother (as much as one can love?) I've never had any true friends just people I see to use to my benefit and once I get what I want they're of no more use to me. I've never been in love, lusted? Yes, but never in love. I've tried forming bonds with people over the years but to no avail. I try to show empathy for people but I don't know how to. I wasn't physically nor sexually abused as a child but I was overly sheltered and taught that everyone is out to get you.
followed by an equally unoriginal post such as yours pointing out the redundant joke and satisfying your "cleverness to the point of edging" predilection. Hows that working out for you? Direct all replies to the project mayhem coordination team.
I'm pretty sure I know a sociopath, but I'm not sure. He definitely shows emotion but it's only big emotion when it's to do with himself. He does things that make it clear he doesn't care about those he says he does when those things are beneficial to himself and only "feels bad" when he's found out by those he is hiding it from. When it comes to face his repercussions, he hides and acts completely afraid.
Give it time. More life experience and you’ll become more open to people knowing that side of you. You’re Batman and you’ll never be Iron-Man... but Superman is your best friend and you’re not showboating.
Gordon Ramsey wouldn't suprise me... If someone came up to me "dude did you here about Gordon Ramsey?" I'd probably be like: I could've figured from the start
i've met a sociopath. he's my friend. he's a genius, but he really hate society and don't like to interact with others. he once revealed to me that he only considered some people in our class as his true friends, and treat others differently.
It is very important that you can recognize a psychopath and a sociopath. I once went out with a guy. He graduated from the top college in the world, had 2 successful companies, was always invited to TV shows, and was overall a super smart and successful individual. The whole evening he was manipulating me, was also making me feel guilty, and was lying the entire time. The worst thing is that you don't even know how to act because what he says sounds right, but you feel very unsafe and have to protect yourself. I was lucky it ended after the 1st date because I moved, but I can guarantee that most people who see sociopaths/psychopaths will get into relationships with them as it's super hard to resist if you don't know what you are dealing with.
Some fo them have no other choice. Visible lack of emotions lead to subconscious rejection by other people. If you wanna be part of community then you gotta hide.
I’m pretty sure sociopaths have more erratic/frantic behaviour so I think it’d be a little easier to determine a sociopath from a psychopath.. I think..
It can be hard to tell if someone's a psychopath. They can be as nice as possible, but you won't see their true colors until it's too late. As we know, all the infamous serial killers were psychopaths. People described them as being nice or compassionate after meeting them. But then they show who they really are once they have you right where they want you.
It was a very horrible traumatizing experience that changed me forever. I hope anyone who has to deal with these type of people find the strength to get out for their own sanity
Psychologist* But it is true. Psychopathy is caused by genetics, while sociopathy is caused by abuse and/or harsh environment during childhood. A lot of sociopaths suffered from a brain injury or have high function autism. I really wish they would include more information in their videos like this.
You can easily tell a psycopath from brain scans as its found there is a given part of 'less activity' in the brain compared to a healthy person. This is predominantly genetic, however can be caused by any brain trauma affecting a given area of the brain (frontal lobe I believe). Sociopaths however can develop or adapt the same given traits through abuse, stress etc. But in saying that sociopaths are known to still feel emotions from time to time, as they are compressed rather than the latter of being non-existent. So yes sociopaths are an adaptive like indused disorder while psychopaths are inevitable if their brain patterns comply?
@@joreinertson3839 don't get me wrong, but a psycopath would never out themselves or confess to being a psycopath, they'd hide in plain sight trying to fit in. Sociopaths often confess they are sociopaths at some point however as its far more common. Telling people you are a psycopath will just scare them off.
@@no-ff8gm most psychopaths are really narcissistic , in most cases I've seen the grandiosity gets in the way of them recognizing or even confessing that they are pathological or causing the problems. I feel that psychopaths think they are better and people are a means to an end , so yeah @actuallyphuck I agree with you
When I was young I remember having a lack of guilt for my actions...However throughout my life I have developed a healthy sense of appropriate guilt. I think that in some cases sociopathic behavior, due to early childhood trauma, can be healed. - There were bad things that were easy for me to do when I was younger that I could not do today due to a developed conscience and moral compass.
This is often the case with children as they are not emotionally mature, and many anti social kids grow up to be healthy and functional adults, which is why they don't really call kids psychopathic, until they are adults. It is the ones who never do form fully emotional brains that remain psychopathic as adults.
I was going to comment but John Deckenbach has already beat me to it. Plus, some childhood traumas may cause certain emotions to get locked up. You may be aware of those emotions and understand them fully but due to circumstances, suppress those emotions.
I got manipulated into a relationship with a sociopath. She was so charming and romantic at first. I’m an empath and sociopaths are drawn to people like me. I was also in an extremely low place in my life. I learned quickly she was very cruel but it was like an addiction for me. I was desperate to make her happy, which never works with sociopaths. They will never be healthy for anyone ever! I would leave her and a few weeks later she was texting me and laying on the charm so I’d come back. This happened so many times I’m feel embarrassed to say. She actually took about $200,000 from me and more. I tried to take her to court but it didn’t go as planned (a strange story). At the end of our relationship, I actually attempted suicide and she yelled and laughed at me. I did not want attention, I wanted to die! I had lost everything and had nowhere to go. That was it for me! I should write a book about this experience since it was so sick. I want to mention she was sexually abused by her own family. Maybe I could help someone going through something similar. Love to all those suffering 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I am a warrior?? I truly appreciate that because a lot of days I feel like a failure. People can be very cruel. I don’t get it. I’ve been hurt but I don’t want others to be punished because of it. I’m sure you wouldn’t either. Being in this world is really a huge learning experience!

eh, sociopaths often don't go to therapists. i know a girl that i'm pretty sure is a sociopath, real one. she has suffered trauma from parental abuse, is very violent and a compulsive liar. but she can still be a fun friend, she is not a demon. however, she is very irresponsible and has a huge ego, thinking it's pathetic to see a psychiatrist. i know your comment is just for fun, but i'm just sayin' :)
I think I might be a sociopath, I like to think im a nice dude, but I can't remember ever being genuinely sad, like when someone I was close to died, my grandma's brother and my uncle
I think you are missing the point? They are capable of HURTING, big, big time. The level of hurt will depend on the level of power and control the psychopath/sociopath has/had over others. Most are not violent and most are not serial killers yet, ALL are capable of causing deep, deep hurt.
Possibly because sociopaths and psychopaths are smart enough to not give themselves away, so there aren't many real-life examples that AREN'T linked to crimes.
I met someone whom i had reason to believe was a psychopath. He took 3 tests to see if it was true and they all said it was likely. The guy didnt actually give me any real reason to believe he was a threat but he sent chills down my spine with the way he thought. He spoke in a very monatone voice and would ask me if i wanted him to speak with more emotion to make me feel comfortable. I wonder why he wanted me to feel comfortable. He didnt seem to care about me yet he didnt try to manipulate me or hurt me either. The topic really intrests me
@@fifaguy2498 yeah it’s much easier to spot like for example a child who enjoys hurting or killing small animals or a child who is good at manipulating others are good telltale signs but I don’t think it’s allowed for mental health practitioners to diagnose children as Psychopaths.
Comment's Rage a person who doesn’t want to hurt people without remorse maybe. You know autistic people are intellegent af too, they feel empathy and sympathy.
Psychopath is a spectrum of antisocial disorder. People who experience this aren't always a psycho but do experience similar symptoms...the vid even said not all psychopaths are violent.
@ BlasterSW MW: As an individual diagnosed with high-functioning Asperger's Syndrome(along with other disorders), it is COMPLETELY possible for a person on the spectrum to be a psychopath(although sociopothy is much more prevalent). I myself cannot even differentiate between rage and depression(I am(technically) a psychopath, in the literal since. Try again, please.
I've met plenty of sociopaths/narcissists and only a handful of psychopaths. Sociopaths tend to come from ghetto-like neighbourhoods from my experience, basically like this video said, they're a direct product of their upbringing/environment, but they can also come from seemingly normal households. Narcissists always give away red flags, but people who are not familiar with psychology can't see them that easily. One of the few psychopaths I know is in my family and another one is a former neighbour. They come across as asskissers but they're absolutely ruthless and will have no remorse if they want to harm you and/or your reputation.
I'm a phsycopath but to be honest I see emotional ties as barriers for the overall progress of humanity as a whole. So I am kinda proud to be able to see things without emotions distorting it.
I am a Sociopath I completely disagree with you because there is a reason for emotions evolutionary people who show emotions are more likely to reproduce.
I would argue that would be impossible for many humans to actually overcome because thats basically what makes us human and have made the foundation of society and how we evolve as people if human were to "overcome"our ties we would crumble as a species and die off we would have no reason to push forward no passion to do anything or reason to
My old best friend liked to play with fire a lot. She was really weird and did some shady stuff, no care about consequences. I've been suspecting she might be a sociopath but she seemed too empathetic for that. Until one day she went crazy and killed and tortured her pet rat in front of me. I was so shocked at that, she still laughed at it and she didnt regret a single bit. I dont talk to her anymore but now I'm sure she's not normal
that was all i was gonna say. We throw out the word socio/psycho path way to often when describing people... To the point i would argue these terms mean almost nothing. I mean there's edgy kids in the comment section proclaim "I AM A PSYCHOPATH HEHEHE" ... psychopathy by definition is low profile. Neither socio nor psycho paths want relationships even 30 second ones with internet trolls. They think of people as tools, and see themselves as highly superior and detached from the rest of society. This CAN be channelled into good. And i think most of the time it is. But only in the modern western world. And god help americans, all those guns+statistically unavoidable psychopaths= Mass shootings... *smh*
I’ve been diagnosed with Antisocial personality disorder. It’s really awkward trying to explain “yes I like you, but I don’t exactly care about you” lmao
If APD cases make up about 5 percent of the population, then 1 on 20 of the people you know could be one. Better to know what you're dealing with. Most of us have probably encountered one or more of them.
My ex-groupmate in college was a psychopath. He enjoyed hurting others, selling it as a "joke". And he tried to manipulate us into doing the hard part of the job, however, he was the one who had the capability to be a persuasive spokesman. He offended basically all of us, but he always got away with it with his exceptional communication skills. My teachers and groupmates fell for him, they enjoyed his company, because he was so "loose", "stylish" and "never worrying". Then, when we talked about social things on one course, he himself admitted that he is not able to relate to people's problems. That made my suspicions firm about him. Today he is in a leader position, and he bragged with it in the group chat, but added "how hard task it is going to be for him"... Of course not, he just wanted sympathy and attention, and also did let us know "who is the boss"... Because psychopaths love receiving compliments that polish their egos, that is maybe the only emotion they feel. I can recognize a psychopath any day, and I would say that 1% is a very underestimated number. Every fifth person I know have these traits, most of them are blend into society...even better than me, who doesn't have APD!
I agree with you in that the numbers are way off, because most never get diagnosed (they don't stay in therapy long enough). It's probably 10-15% NPD in the population. I looked at myself extensively because of the abuse I dealt with growing up, but also the environment around my family growing up. 50% of my classmates had divorced parents. I listened to friends dads growing up, how they behaved/thought/talked and our society is way more diseased "upstairs" than anyone wants to truly acknowledge! Look at the way society is cracking down with things like censorship etc, it's because things are so out of control top to bottom. But as the digital age progresses, more and more information is available, and mental health is declining from unforeseen consequences . Never before have kids been so detached by distractions, neglect, a lack of parenting or toxic parenting. Everybody seems to know someone like your friend (regardless of what end of the spectrum they could actually be diagnosed as).
@@crookedzebrarecordsthe bumper sprightly should be lower just because someone is toxic doesn't make them gave this disorder its a lot more to how they think and view the world and you will never know that. 10 % is Also definitely not narcissists, my therapist made me realize that when I wanted to be tested for the disorder.
Do an episode on how the criminal system works as in the differences between 1st degree murder, manslaughter, etc, and what penalties they might include life in prison, capitol punishment, etc? I find this topic super interesting.
While most of us will identify with some of these traits no degree of these traits are given, "lack of empathy" for instance doesnt say "is a bit of a dick" nor "has no heart", its up to interpretation.
What bums me with these explanations is that they describe *extreme" cases of sociopathic behavior. Many, many people have much more mild symptoms, and detecting them in life is a challenge. I wish we could have more tips and tricks for that.
that's difficult because they mask a lot and are quite charming, but it's also difficult to mask in relationships or with family AKA the people you live with
exactly I think there r levels to this its not just 0s and 1s. Also i think its harder to identify someone who is borderline sociopath than a typical example of a psychopath. A borderline sociopath might feel guilt, remorse and empathy sometimes so he doesnt need to mimic that behavior all the time, just sometimes. So many times his behavior could be genuine, other times not and in this case another person could be given contradicting signs.
Found out I had ASPD through therapy for other issues and I’ve got a lot of friends, a gf, and a few pets. The “love” others experience is not something I understand, however I experience my own form of love that I’ve heard others with ASPD who experience that echo. It’s like owning prized possessions, though in my case I understand and have no interest in crossing boundaries or controlling others and I do feel happiness around those I mentioned
Only way is to do an extensive amount of research of all the constructs of the B cluster disorders and be vigilant when meeting new people. In my case I learnt from experience from someone in my social circle. I had no clue for years until my mental health deteriorated so badly that I was at a point of losing everything. Now Any anti social behaviour sticks out like a sore thumb, I have a checklist in my head. Psychopathy represents 1% of the population and I just got unlucky right out the gate in young adulthood. Typically these people are very charming and then all of sudden there’ll be an incident where you look like the problem, and this is where you need to stop and cross examine the situation with your symptom checklist. The trick is not to let these incidents slide and the best reaction to give is absolutely nothing and walk away. B cluster disorders are called dramatic for a reason and they feed off reaction like a drug
Ok one thing, I'm a psychopath and I've done a lot of research studying my mental disorder and own thing you said that was completely wrong is psychopaths having amazing self control, very wrong, what we're good it is manipulating people into thinking we feel a certain way or basically just hiding psychopathy. Psychopaths struggle mentally because of this lack of self control knowing that what they do hurts people and they can't control it, not in an empathic way but in a more "I won't get anything out of this" way
No, A better suit for sociopath is two-face, He isn't born evil, joker turned him into one, that's why Hannibal lecter too, he isn't born evil too, He learned it too when he was forced to eat his sister by the soldiers
I was raised by a sociopath and an enabler. I dated sociopaths and married a sociopath and I was an enabler. Unfortunately I know them too well. Years of therapy helped me break the cycle.
I've met a psychopath. After interacting with him for a few months and learning about him I caught on and realized that I needed to change to better respond to him. Terrible experience, looking back on it. Changed me for the better though.
Nah, I think most psychopaths take pleasure in lying. Their lack of empathy makes them think they’re superior to others, so duping them is like a game to them.
I’ve dealt with two psychopaths and two sociopaths in my life that I know for sure. The one thing that stuck out from knowing all of them was the long amount of time it took for me to realize what they were. They were all cool to talk to and be around til you spent a lot of time around them.
I feel like some people need to remember that even though it seems like most serial killers have ASPD, most people with ASPD are not serial killers. Serial killers show pyschopathic traits, but most of them wouldn't meet the criteria for an official diagnosis. Though potentially very dangerous, the "evil" of these people is over hyped. A lot of times it has minimal effects on people around them. The whole psychopath=murderer is like depression=emo kid who writes sad poetry. In reality looking into the minds of psychopaths/sociopaths is quite boring unless you're looking at extreme ends

I'm a phycopath
Hello sociopath
@@johndoe1059 skill issue dvmb b
Thank you for sharing that :)
I was given to understand that sociopath/psychopath isn’t a diagnosis. Do you mean anti social personality disorder?
@johndoe1059 you are not. They never said that. Who diagnosed you ?
Psychopath: Born this way
Sociopath: Born normal, but later developed sociopathy due to extreme trauma/abuse as a child.
They usually see no point in it)
Sociopath: Likely to be violent.

Is there any stereotypes people have that I should avoid? I hope this isn't a rude request. Haha.

@@annaab3502 that's rough, especially with your mom (or anyone) enabling them.

I heard a psychoanalyst say, psychopaths are born , sociopaths are made
Psychologist* But it is true.
That is very true I am living proof I am not sociopath I am a psychopath.
@@joreinertson3839 don't get me wrong, but a psycopath would never out themselves or confess to being a psycopath, they'd hide in plain sight trying to fit in. When I was young I remember having a lack of guilt for my actions...However throughout my life I have developed a healthy sense of appropriate guilt. So I still have a chance lol
I was in a similar situation
This is often the case with children as they are not emotionally mature, and many anti social kids grow up to be healthy and functional adults, which is why they don't really call kids psychopathic, until they are adults. It is the ones who never do form fully emotional brains that remain psychopathic as adults.
Randy Levine a good example would be the child of rage documentary
Narcissists always give away red flags, but people who are not familiar with psychology can't see them that easily.

What bums me with these explanations is that they describe *extreme" cases of sociopathic behavior. Many, many people have much more mild symptoms, and detecting them in life is a challenge. I wish we could have more tips and tricks for that.
that's difficult because they mask a lot and are quite charming, but it's also difficult to mask in relationships or with family AKA the people you live with
exactly
I think there r levels to this its not just 0s and 1s.
Some people have sociopathic symptoms but aren't full sociopaths
