      portprophecy Truth! That really touched my soul. I've got nothing against the M4 style rifles, AR15s etc but AK has a reputation in a way similar to Glocks, and that's dependability. Dependability, and the 300 yard coverage that 7.62x39 covers really drives home to me which rifle I'd rather have on my side of the foxhole.

      Is this better than the WASR

    • @TexasHellcat1836
      @TexasHellcat1836 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@grumpysquid Depends on your definition of better. Is it better for being milled instead of stamped? Technically yes. But it comes with a slightly raised price. But what the WASR-10 has, is basically being a military rifle, minus the giggle mode. If you're looking for your first AK, get the WASR-10. I personally went with the RAS47 on my 18th birthday, but it's a late production, meaning the issues that everyone talks about have been fixed. But if you're looking for your first AK, get a WASR-10. You won't have to worry about the rifle potentially being an early production and blowing up in your face. But if you want 100% US made, the C39V2 and VSKA are good choices. The VSKA is the successor to the RAS47 and uses S7 steel, which is ridiculously tough. And the C39V2 is milled, so, its literally made from a giant block of steel. C39V2 is milled so that's cool. VSKA is stamped from extremely tough steel so that's cool. But the WASR-10 is essentially a proven military rifle.

  • @raleighncrider

    Just opining here... I think one of the reasons that Century included a bolt-hold-open safety is because some firing ranges require the bolts to be open (chamber exposed) prior to firearms on the line being declared safe and shooters allowed to walk down range. At my range, AK's that don't have that feature are required to have their bolts held open with a spent cartridge case or the like...so a built-in hold-open makes this easier. just my 2 cents. Another great video, hickok and John.

    you really get the best of both worlds with the C39v2, a lower price high quality milled reciever but what sets it apart, to me, is it takes standard stamped akm (the most commonly available) furniture. I love that I can flip flop my keymod akm hand guard with my wasr10, even my draco pistol all takes the same furniture. it does not have a side scope mount but I can use the one midwest industries handguard that i bought to mount my red dot on any of my ak's when I get bored with iron sights, and as a bonus the threaded barrel is concentric from the factory, so suppressing an ak is now a little bit easier and not as big of a hassle.

    From a purely aesthetic view, I thought the stock was very nicely fitted to the rear of the rifle. No gaps of bumps where it meets the receiver. I also think some of the polymer stock/furniture kits look a little cheesy, and that is due to poor fitment, alignment or proportion of furniture much of the time. This one seems nicely streamlined. I agree about the LHBHO on the safety. What's it for really? Looks like a thumb masher if one tried to use it as a bolt release. If it were up to me to tweak this nice looking rifle at all, I would address the top receiver cover, the sights, the safety with LRBHO, and put a regular slant hider on the muzzle. But most of all I wish MagPul would take a hint from the Yugo AK-47 mags that lock the bolt open on the last round. That product would surely be a winner with AK enthusiasts. Great video as always Hickok. Stumping for the sponsors is a drag, but you pull it off with pinashe'. And the old shooter's enthusiasm was well in evidence when you exclaimed, "Oh look, a propane bottle!" Lol. Those things are always a "blast" to shoot. Life is good.

    Its nice to see the US AK market making decent weapons these days.

    Not when you can still get factory made Romanian, Polish, Serbian, Bulgarian etc. made AKs.

      John Pifer
      Because I'm a purist and if it ain't broke don't fix it. Imports are made in actual AK factory, made by methods and with materials that have been time tested and battle proven.
      And because they will retain their resale values better. But mostly because they are the real thing not an American made copy.
      If you where gonna buy a Ferrari would you want the one made in Italy or a US made copy ?
      No reason for me to buy an American rifle until they finally do succeed in banning AK imports from every country.

      @johnmpifer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +drtrolish It's fine if you want it just because it was made in Eastern Europe. But don't try to say it's better just because it was made over there.

    • @pac6010
      @pac6010 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      John Pifer
      They are better. European made AKs are made in factory's that make military rifles using proper materials. US guns are made using the cheapest material that will work for the commercial market.
      The barrels on European made AKs are CHF and made to mil spec. Most US AK makers use cheap button rifled barrels made for commercial sales.
      Its not that you can't get as good of an AK here in the states. We have company's that do make them on par, but they cost twice as much as the same European made guns.
      No point to buy them just yet.

    I have the c39. tell john instead of judo chopping the dust cover on and breaking the tip of the rear recoil spring tab off :) to do this- get the dust cover in the groove up front (like u did in this video) but before doing so push the rear recoil spring tab foward through the dusk cover hole with your thumb. then lower the dust cover down and release your thumb on the recoil spring tab. nice and easy frustration free install every time.

  • @MrH4nds
    @MrH4nds 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @Hickok45 I own this weapon and have found a very easy method for replacing the dust cover. I'm not sure how to put it into words but I can make you a quick video detailing my method if you'd like. I personally love how snug the dust cover fits. I find most akm's feel cheap because the dust cover rattles a bit.

    • @MrH4nds
      @MrH4nds 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll try and put it into text anyway. So, I just let the dust cover rest on the receiver and I push it forward until I feel the recoil spring start to take up tension, then without lifting up the rear end of the dust cover. I slightly lift the front edge of the dust cover and push it in to the groove taking up more tension on the recoil spring. After that you can simply push the back end of the cover down and it will seat, releasing the tension from the recoil spring. Very easy to do.

    I have the same gun expect my stock is slightly different and with all Magpul. Great AK-47. The best model I have shot out of 16. Recoil isn't bad at all and it's very accurate for a AK.

    The Magpul stuff is nice but the wood that my C39V2 came with is so dang nice that I can't bare to change it. I just put the Magpul stuff on the WASR. I did put a Magpul grip on the C39V2 though.

    Just bought one like 30 minutes ago, it's absolutely fantastic feeling, really lightweight, which was suprising for an ak platform rifle (I'm used to wielding a yugo sks, so it's significantly lighter) I'm very excited to take her out in the woods.

    My local range requires chambers open and visible when the line goes cold. They make exceptions for traditional AK owners, but it is nice to be able to comply quickly so they can do a quick visual and get us down range and back to a hot line. The safety bolt catch is a simple way to do that so you don't have to keep searching for a flag or other chamber safety devise.

    I just bought a new V2 and it is a well built AK. I'm pulling the walnut off and going with the Magpul Zhukov front with a rear folder. I bought it from a good shop and I looked it over inside and out for about 30 min. With the milled receiver you just don't see the barrels and stocks crooked to one side or the other plus you have less parts to go wrong. Not having the rivets is a big improvement.

    I like your channel good sir, your a accurate shooter and very informative. I used to own this rifle except mine had the walnut stock and I blasted 1800 rounds of Tula and Wolf for the duration I owned the rifle. I was content with its accuracy and reliable function. In the end, I traded it for a Smith & Wesson 686-6 with a six inch barrel, I am happy with the trade.

    hey bud great video. I love mine. The trick I use to get the cover back on is to push the button back as I bring the cover down. Then a firm smack and it latches. For the kick, Century milled the bolt with slots to make it lighter. The trigger is truely amazing.

      I have a question. I have a Norinco SKS that shoots smooth, even with thousands of rounds through it. I just bought a C39V2 AK, and I was surprised at how the action feels more violent in the AK versus the SKS. I had assumed that since they both shoot the 7.62x39 round that both rifles would feel similar when shooting. Is this normal for most AK type rifles versus SKS rifles?

    My question is this. If the rifle really does become dangerous to fire after a few thousand rounds then why is Century Arms not worried about having their asses handed to them in a civil lawsuit when an out of battery explosion injures/kills a shooter/bystander? Why have we not seen that happen yet? If the rifle is that out of spec and truly dangerous then why hasn't there been a recall, and why is Century Arms immune to accountability? This is a serious inquiry and I'd like to hear from someone who can answer it.

    • @jibb1451
      @jibb1451 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nobody can answer that. lol because no one has had one blow up on them. You can find AK purist ALLLLLLL day long ranting about how bad anything but a WASR is (and some of that IS valid *COUGH* RAS47 *COUGH*, however, the C39V2 is no slouch. There are even instances of these things passing 12,000 round endurance tests with minimal parts breakages, on average, beating even the M16's endurance stats. The thing is every gun manufacturer has initial issues with their weapons models sometimes. From colt, to glock, you name it. That's why this is a V2. They improved on the issues of the initial C39. Unfortunately, the court of public opinion is locked into the idea that this weapon is the same thing as the very first C39's. Which is dishonest and unfair. I have heard nothing but good things everywhere about this model of AK. AT WORST, you may want to swap the bolt and bolt carrier for a authentic set of like, Polish parts, but even so the out of the box bolts usually last thousands of rounds without issue while still passing head-spacing. Personally, I have put around 1000 rounds through mine without anything other than a mag related failure to feed.

    Just purchased on of these magpul AKs today. Its had some mods mainly cosmetics..some rails and stuff and a different bolt and sights...i havent shot it yet.
    Kinda wish i had reasearched it first what with all the poor mouthing it...but, im not planning on abusing it or driving over it ...dragging it through sand and mud....so im fairly confident that it will take care of my needs...just a fun fast shooting plinker......

    I have one of the original C39s, and maybe it's just a peculiarity of my individual rifle, but the bolt will hold open on its own if you pull it back just right.
    Rifle is fine, doesn't need safety bolt hold-back.
