    Looks great polished. I work as a Weights Engineer. When I was on C-130 the painters said they wanted to rub back the paint and add another coat as it had come out a bit orange peely. Just for the fuselage this added 80 lbs. So several coats of paint including primer would definitely double digit lbs.

    My Navy primary training was in a T-34 Mentor, similar to your Cherokee. I tried flying a 172, but with the over-wing and lift above me my landings were like a DC-10 with two-engines out. I much prefer sitting on top of the wing. Good on you guys and keep up the safe flying.

  • @danielreuter2565
    @danielreuter2565 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +165

    Sure go fly any chance you get but keep the priorities straight. You're not in the time building phase. You're in the learn how to fly phase. And that means lots of boring pattern work and maneuvers in addition to learning how to plan and execute cross countries. And you're definitely going to need a regular cfi to help you make progress and get you from phase to phase. You won't make much progress just flying with different random instructors. If you're actually serious about passing a checkride, quit being so impulsive, keep the one working plane you seem to have (appropriate for training at least) and train all the boring tedious stuff until you can solo and then take a checkride. Schedule it now so you will have pressure to focus and get it done. This channel will be infinitely more interesting if you guys start making real progress on your flying skills and then can fly planes on your own. You will have so much more insight into the flying you're doing and it will make for better stories.

    • @PensacolaOboist

      "And you're definitely going to need a regular cfi to help you make progress and get you from phase to phase. You won't make much progress just flying with different random instructors." THIS! A THOUSAND TIMES THIS! Speaking from personal experience. "Real life," plus that issue caused it to take me FOUR YEARS to get my VFR PPL! Related note: If you're working with an actual flight school, make darn sure it's reputable and maybe even find out where the money behind it came from.

    • @danielreuter2565
      @danielreuter2565 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@PensacolaOboist it took me 2.5 years with multiple stops because I lost motivation. It felt like I wasn't making progress. I had a regular CFI but he was very disorganized. There was no plan to help me finish. And I didn't know enough at that point to make a plan for myself. It took firing that CFI and studying the ACS thoroughly to generate a self training plan. Then I found another cfi to coach me through refining the training I had been doing on my own. This was in my own plane, which makes it much more challenging to get an organized plan since it's an unfamiliar plane to a CFI and outside their normal workflow at a flight school. Anyone who is going to train in their own plane has to really take the lead on their training. Make a plan and get a cfi who can help you execute it. Or tell you that it's a bad plan and actively help make a better one. IE: almost none of the cross country flying you're doing (the way you're doing it, at least) is going to prepare you to pass a checkride. Read the ACS. Seriously just start there.

    • @PensacolaOboist
      @PensacolaOboist 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danielreuter2565 I totally feel your pain. I didn't lose motivation but I had to deal with work, COVID, and a couple minor medical things that I had to clear up with the FAA. Plus, I lost my original flight school to Hurricane Sally! I signed up with another school that I soon discovered had a suspiciously high attrition rate with CFIs and I was in the same boat as you, twisting in the wind with no idea what to do. I knew so little... and nobody was helping! Cutting out a lot of boring details, I finally got over the PPL finish line after a former employee of my 2nd school put me in touch with a Chief CFI of another much more reputable school who then handed me off to a freelance CFI friend of his who specialized in "fixing" students in my (our) situation.

    LBB international airport was my home base for a while. I parked my PA-28-235 N15410 there for a long time. The FBOs there are great and maintenance is good as well. Buddy Holly was from there as well as Mac Davis. Vernon used to have a great hamburger restaurant on the airport but I guess it is like many and closed down. Cross country in a 235 is always fun as it can haul a bunch and the speed is not bad with great 10 to 12 gph. Mine had 7 hours of fuel ability with tip tanks. Great aircraft.

    9:32 not a life hack but a good piece of advice. I saw a pilot debrief with a fatal crash of a helicopter the pilot had lost their iPad underneath the pedals. It got stuck and they couldn't pull it. Just something you might want to be careful about when you set your iPad on your lap. He couldn't reach the iPad because of the tight quarters of the cockpit. I'd recommend you lanyard if you're going to leave it loose especially if you hit turbulence and you lose it. Unfortunately they didn't survive.

    One of the most important parts of cross country flying other than fuel and weather is arrival planning. What services at each town you stop at is so important so you don’t ruin your day. Just because they say there is fuel doesn’t mean it’s there service like taxis food accommodation IMPORTANT

    Nice video. Kind of surprised at the altitude you are flying you can't just leave things full throttle and use the mixture to get down to 65% or lower... full throttle is definitely the most efficient way to fly. I use this technique at high altitudes in the warrior I fly, it works beautifully.

    What a complete waste of government resources. How much money did that cost the taxpayers? Way to go DEA. Did they get more drugs off the street? Just lazy policing!
