I'm still rockin my VxV too. Love that IEM. I have the Z Reviews 8W Cadmus cable. I demoed it on release day at Canjam and it was the most luxurious, premium feeling cable that ever touched my hands. No memory, never fights me yet still probably thick enough to throw on a tow hitch. I'm years into this hobby and several dozen IEMs deep so a crazy nice cable that I can use with all of them made sense for me.
I totally agree with cables making a difference. When I competed in car audio competitions, high quality cables made all the difference with power output and sound. 99.9% Pure Oxygen free copper power cables could always carry more current without loss, compared to aluminum coated cables and the like. I wonder if it's the same for IEM and headphone cables? I run 99.9% OFC 12 awg speaker cables in my home theater and home audio setups for this reason. Keep up the great work, love the videos.👊👍
I bought the cadmus because it's white and looks nice. Supposedly it arrives today. i doubt I will notice any sound differences, but I will report back. I'm still in the I don't believe it changes the sound camp.
Well, TLDR: it DOES make a difference for my use case. I'm in shock! I thought it was impossible it'd do anything but mayyyybe change the volume by 1 or 2 dbs. But it's not that! I'm listening to a song I've heard hundreds of times (skin o' my teeth by Megadeth, the 1992 version) with Monarch mk3s and Topping d70prosabre+a70pro on the 4.4mm jack. The source is a FLAC file recorded from my own CD, which passed Accurip tests. I don't think the mmk3 cable is bad (it's a premium IEM after all) but when I switch to the cadmus I notice the sound opens slightly, the snare sound is clearer and more detailed, the cymbals are slightly brighter and surprisingly, I hear the bass guitar a lot more. I can distinguish David Elefson picking the bass strings which I can't easily do on the mmk3 cable. I'm in awe that this is the case and have gone back and forth between cables to prove myself wrong, but the sound IS there. Needless to say I'm super happy with the cable (looks and feel are also stunning), but now I regret not buying the 8w version! Wow! EDIT: let me add for reference, as for how obvious or slight the change is: If tip rolling makes a 3% difference (ex: difference between divinus velvet and stock tips), then this made another 5% difference over that. So both things combined, I'd say are worth it, but aren't as significant as jumping from a regular IEM to an excelent one. I recommend you spend most of your money on the IEM, then the amp, then the dac, then the accesories. EDIT2: I also happened to love said changes, but I just realized they could be exactly the opposite someone else is looking to achieve. Be mindful of your chain and aware of thr sound you want before buying :)
@@Mastermnd1 maybe one day I'll have listened to enough music to be so intimately familiar with certain tracks that I can distinguish between two pieces of equipment.
@@spamcan9208lol. Just put your favorite album on repeat and listen to it all day long: I grew up with this CD. Btw: i just added more details to my original answer.
I am so glad you talked specifically about the Meze Advar, it is truly my favorite single DD IEM and the stock cable is so cheap feeling - plastic, thin and tangle prone. I have been wondering what to buy for it as an upgrade. I'm going to give the Cadmus a try, it's the same price as the Meze upgrade cable and just looks so much better. Thanks for the timely review! BTW might grab the Ares for my new Timsok TS-316 as well. (today was a dangerous day to watch this video :) )
Personally I think it's worth to give the Ares 8W a try if you are looking to get an Ares. The 8W really makes a bigger difference as compared to a 4W version.
@@PrimeAudioReviews I got my cadmus last week (and the secret santa cadmus x ares) both are amazing. the cadmus on the advar does seem to open the sound even more and adds some sparkle to the top end - makes it even more wonderful! thank you!
Cables 100% make a difference in sound quality, but there are too many ignorant trolls who have never used a premium cable before or even have the IEMs, DAP/DAC/amp to hear the difference, so they troll and bash people who do hear a difference. It's such a toxic bunch of people that make fun of audiophiles who has the capability and gear to make use of expensive cables.
I've tried 60000 yen balanced cable with somt ier z1r with fiio btr15 at a store, it sounded pretty good- it sounded like a Sony z1r. I don't believe cables make that big of a difference, so I'd rather get some cheap but decent cable with good iems, I'm getting s12s for Christmas and I might use the kiwi ears cadenza stock cable on it because the stock cables on the s12 look pretty bulky.

@@tianqisong3328 the 8w ares is next on my list to try!
i think its cheaper to produce and buy another cable (with fixed terminations) than to make these extra connectors.
Hi, did you try the Eros S? If yes how do you compared to these 2?
Apart from these, I've only tried Ares II.

I want to do custom cable, does gold plated vs rhodium plated jack and connector alter the sound?
I assume it would but I would need to test one of each to say conclusively.
