I remember my friend renting a Sega CD for his birthday party and he picked this and got Sewer Shark. We were 8 or 9 years old and the whole experience was like, what the hell is happening.
Large amounts of excitement and high expectations only to be met with awkward moments of disappointments with games like this in the early 90s was all too common, I mean that must have been so awkward it being his birthday and all poor guy :(

Back when my friend got a Sega CD I remember we thought games with video were considered graphics. So we would see a game like this and think the graphics were awesome.
Full motion video in games hit its stride with the original Resident Evil on PS.

This looks like a game I would enjoy, actually. I prefer having the video on the small stadium screen rather than full screen. It almost looks like you're at the game.
The Sega CD has so many crappy FMV games, why didn't more developers use the storage space for different things?

Just curious if each play has a video, could you not just memorize which plays have successful videos? Or are there multiple videos for each play?
No each play dont have its own video, if I remember correctly its depending on the play the defense picks. For example if the defense picks a good run stopping play and the offense picks a run play. It will show video of short yards agin or tackle for a lost. Its possible to throw interceptions and stuff too

You didn't get crap like this on the PC engine CD, you got freaking Castlevania Rondo of Blood, Star Parodier, Ys and Dungeon Explorer 2!
Okay alright, you also got some pretty good games on the Sega CD like Popful Mail and Silpheed so it wasn't too bad... And well, the Turbo CD also got It came from the west which was also crappy FMV but the FMV on the Turbo was few and far between...
The cheerleaders dancing are probably the only good thing about football period.

+Trackball The TGCD also actually had good games lol. This had a handful of good ones, Sonic CD and Popful Mail are the only ones worth going back and playing, Snatcher is good, too, but god is it expensive.

The game doesn't look bad,I think its weird how there using two 49er teams and two cowboys teams for the highlights, kind of weird.
Yeah, its possible to change out the quarter backs so if you put Montana in you will get Montana film but if you put young in you get young film and same for the cowboys

bad enough that you can't pick any teams besides the obvious 2, that makes it boring enough but then add in the fact that you don't even get to control the action and technically it isn't even a video game.. sadly there were dozens of games like this in the early 90's "especially on the Sega CD" to which the only purpose was to show off what the console could do.
Nope... you're wrong bud.... so speaking as someone who was 14 years old when the Sega CD came out and former owner of one, NFL's Greatest is one of the top 5 games ever released on the console, given you admitted to knowing nothing about football at the end of the video, it's no surprise you can't appreciate this classic. Wouldn't it had made more sense to do Washington vs. Dallas as there rivalry is much more famous? Oh well the game probably would have sucked just as much anyway.
SEGA was attempting to capitalize on the rivalry between San Francisco and Dallas at the time, as they faced off in three consecutive NFC Championship Games between January 1993-January 1995. They also had previous playoff history, as the January 1982 NFC Championship Game is known a "The Catch", and had playoff matchups between the 1970-1972 seasons. Through that, this misguided game was born.
Watching the computer play on Madden is much better than this game.

The game seems more like a concept that looked pretty good on paper, but turned out to be pretty needless once made into actuality...

What a pile of shit. Sega got me on the 32x, but Sega CD, no way. Master system, Genesis, game gear, Sega channel; all other Sega consoles, concepts and add-ons were crap. Sega channel, way ahead of its time.
The irony is they got you on their worst add-on. While SEGA CD is one of their best in terms of great games available.
