94 was the first time i realized the World Cup was a thing because it was played in the USA, it did make me a fan I watch the World Cup every 4 years but i dont watch much soccer other then that its just not as widely available in the US. I tried to get in to the English Premier League but without a team to follow the games are less interesting.
Let's see 1994, I was starting 7th grade, was hearing about the Sega 32X, Sonic 3 to me was the greatest game for the Genesis and I still had a crush on the same girl from the 6th grade.
As far as I know this is the only genesis footy game which gives you the option of scoring great spin goals. When you shoot a bit of target you can steer the ball in the the goal after you shot it. Also when approaching the keeper in a straight line through the middle of the field and you make a shot, just steer the ball to the side when the bal is 0.5 seconds loose and you'll hit the top corner.
Enter up, up, a, c, a, c, b, down, down, right, up, start at the title screen and start the game. At halftime Truxton bursts in and dances. Greatest thing ever. 10/10 IGN.
JFYI, there was instant replay in football/soccer games, years before this one, at least on 16bit computers +. For example Sensible Soccer and IIRC Microprose Soccer.
This was the first game I played that had Portuguese as one of the languages to choose (I'm brazilian). And I clearly remember the frustration I had when I realized it didn't mattered because of that fucking dog in the options (his name is Striker, btw).
Back in 94 people where cheering and laughing and all that, and i didn't knew what the hell was going on, cause i was 6. Apparently romania had beaten colombia 3 to 1. Those names in the game are romanian, but not of the real players' :P
I got the (US) PC version of this game back in 1995... and wow was it terrible! Such an awful game, didn't make me want to play soccer games again for a long time...
That game doesn't look very enjoyable. xD Japanese people know how to make good football games. they really understand the essence of that sport. I mean, konami had been making great football games. :)

This game received a 10 out of 10 back in the day in Dutch game magazine Powet Unlimited.
The game mags back then were corrupt beyond belief. You'd be better off sometimes just picking a game based on its cover.

Fun world cup. Ireland beat Italy in one of the matches which was pretty preposterous. Whole country shut down for about two days to get drunk.
