I wear a size 10 1/2 in shoes I bought size 10 in boots will they fit ?
Good video. Sometimes I catch myself giving the throttle a little twist when I'm starting a bike. Thankfully I've got electric start with kickstart backup. I've been bit before by the Kickstarter though. Not fun at all.
what about the same elevation but different air temperature outside, like when the bike runs good in warm weather but worse in cold, is that even a thing? assuming that engines are heated up to spec
Great question, and yes that certainly makes a difference in jetting! Engines tend to run leaner when it's colder, so richening it a little should help.
@@MotocrossHideout ohh, I do have a lean mix it seems, thanks!
Yep, you're welcome! What is the first thing you're going to do now? 😀
@@MotocrossHideout 😂, I rather just give it to the mechanic, where he can tune it nicely 🤙
Gotcha, what's holding you back from tuning it yourself, if you don't mind me asking? Also, do you know what your mechanic typically charges for that kind of work?
I need one between 1500 and $2000 dirt bike for street, which one could i get
Going to be hard to find a street legal dirt bike in good shape for under $2k, but here's my video on all of the best models: th-cam.com/video/5yMjTjdakpU/w-d-xo.html
@MotocrossHideout alr thank you sm
What about beginner older 6'-1" riders that weigh 255-260lbs? Can they get away with smaller aircooled cc bikes or need the power of 450 4 strokes to get up hills? I know on circuits for every extra 4lbs it's like losing 1hp but don't know if it's true on dirt
Yeah, weight and power is key for accelerating in road racing or drag racing. I was able to run 8s in the 1/4 with a stock engine 'busa. But trail riding is totally different ball game. Controllable power and low-end torque is what makes it easy to ride and learn on, and you don't need much. Here in the woods or MN, I could ride a 8HP KLX140 and still be almost as fast. I believe you would enjoy starting on a 20-25 HP trail bike because they're much easier to manage and require less maintenance. Something like the CRF250F or KLX300R (liquid cooled but low maintenance)
Another great and informative video buddy 😊 my gasgas trials bike is ignorant to start. TXT300 and they are known to be hard to start. There used to be a kid here that ripped around on the coal piles in flip flops! Imagine that. I like mx boots but really don't like breaking them in. I wear them around the house for hours before getting on a bike. Good video Kelley
Thank You Very Much for Sharing 👍
What would you recommend as a first dirt bike under 2k, these are nice but I’m 6’3. I’ve been looking around but seems that “high height” in dirt bike tends to mean 5’11 tops. So do you know of any that would be worth checking out? (Awesome vid 2 bro)
My neighbor is about your height and he rides a TTR250. Otherwise the KLX300R would be a good choice. Thanks for watching!
I rode dirt bikes as a kid, and had a street bike in my early 20's. Fast forward to 49, I have not rode bikes with the exception of maybe 3 times (5 minute rides) since. I have a 14, 12, and 9 year old kids. They have never ridden. I want to get us all bikes to njoy some family fun on the weekends. I was thinking a fleet of Honda CRF bikes for us, but what are your thoughts? I want to get them something that isn't going to shoot them out of a cannon in first gear.
That's so awesome to hear that you want to get bikes for your family! Would that be your only concern; that you don't want a bike that will shoot them out of a cannon in first gear?
The sound effects may be from THX, but for an mateur begginer mechanic like me, makes the bike response more understandable and easy to fix. Thx!
1 is to 1 for suspension.. . Almost same handling i'm 5'5.. . If city driving only, change rim set. 17' back and 18' front
I didn't realize the Honda CRF 125 is fuel injected. Initially I was looking at getting my 16yrs old son a KLX 140R F. He's 5'6" 140lb and has ridden a Honda CRF80F a few times. Honda doesn't have as nice supsension but that Fuel Injection is nice. We ride single track and ATV trails in the Rocky Mountains (8k-10k elevation) & high desert single track at lower elevations (4k-6k). Fuel Injected would be nice.
Yeah, that was the main reason for us getting the honda. I haven't ridden it at that high of elevation, but I'd imagine that it would compensate enough as long as everything is still stock. Are you looking to buy a new one from a dealer, Jason?
@ ya looking at a new one. Would like to get one before Xmas or Jan 3 (his bday). The more I think about it the more I lean towards Honda simply because this won’t be like a long term bike, but more of a transition bike. If he really enjoys riding then probably get a 2-stroke. Maybe a Xtrainer.
@@Jasonrcsd Nice! Sounds like a good stepping stone. Xtrainer is a solid entry-level enduro bike. Let us know what you end up with :)

Do YOU use the throttle when starting your dirt bike? [FREE Guide] "Basic Techniques" guide to trail ride with confidence - motocrosshideout.com/basic/
Don’t listen to this. I’ve had most of these bikes, and they are ALL perfect for trail riding at any level. You can go to fast on any bike, even a little 80. My favorite trail bike is the KTM 500. That is the Cadillac of dirt bikes. I’m so much safer on the trail with that bike.
I'm glad you like your 500 - they're great bikes and I wouldn't mind having one in the garage. But tell that to all of the beginners I've talked to who started on a 300 or 450 and proceeded to whiskey throttle and crash because they got scared and couldn't handle the power on single-track trails. Is it possible to start on any bike? Yep. Is it wise? Not in my opinion. I'd rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow, but that's just me. Thanks for watching :)
Thank you! Best how to shift a dirt bike video for a beginner that I’ve seen so far!
Thanks for your kind words, Dennis! Glad you're still alive so that we can keep seeing new dinosaurs being made😂

I am beginning to look a lot like a two stroke expert after listening to your videos.. Brilliant mate!
LoL, sweet!
Im 14, 5'11 and 185. Im looking for a good first bike and i like 2 strokes more, but im currently looking at the trr230. And i need it to last 1-3 years
TTR230 would be a great choice for your first bike! Easy to ride, low maintenance, and at 5'11" you'll fit it well :) They hold their value, so you probably won't lose much money if you decide to sell in 2-3 years if it's in similar condition.
@@MotocrossHideout Thanks so much!
@@Vrontx You're welcome. Let us know what you end up with :)
@@MotocrossHideout Totally!
Hello, may I ask? , when i blipped the throttle, the idle goes low then comeback to its normal rpm, when I ride the bike, and hit an emergeny brake (front) the motorcycle drop rpm and dies
Is this a new problem? Sounds like it might be rich. Have you tried tuning the air screw before?
love this guy
Thanks for your support, Francois!
So mine does all of the above....help..really...help..
Start with the air/fuel screw and make one adjustment at a time or else it will get confusing. Grab my free guide to learn how in just a few minutes and then let us know how it goes :)
@MotocrossHideout Thnx for the reaction :) i already downloaded the pdf like a month ago. After all that Still having a contradicting issues... The carb that i bought is a Nibbi pe24 (flange) it comes stock with a 112 main and 40 slow jet, the gas needle is on the 3rd position (i went back to this stock setting). The bike brand is an Orion Apollo RX50 with a 125cc zongshen standing block, also i have the stock airbox/filter on it. I life in The Netherlands and where im at im straight on sealevel (it heard that it matters jetting size hah) When i give it between start and a quarter throttle it bogs (blehhhh) and dies completely.. if i come off the gas it will idle but after a minute or so it will die out of itself. Sparkplug is black not wet wet but a little shiney. I hope you or somebody can give some advice
Before i forget. Whenever i get it to run and start driving like 4 minutes the engine dies and i cant get it to start for like 2 minutes
Sounds like it's running rich if it's harder to start when hot. I would try at least 1 size smaller on the pilot jet and see if it's better. Also recommend checking the float height if you have the float bowl off.
@@MotocrossHideout Again thnx and i did all that. The float is level. I tried all possible combo's, first only the pilot jet later on the main jet... just like you said not all at once. Note the exhaust also backfires when releasing the throttle with the new and old carb.... could this be more then a carb problem? like valve spacing/clearing? (its a fourstroke) or something like low compression at the piston? maybe some people overhere have an answer to this?
Don't hold the throttle open if you have any sort of carb with an accelerator pump. You'll just flood it again. (94') XR250L is what I ride.
Yes, good point! I've also noticed upon visual inspection that if there is an accelerator pump, when I turn the throttle very slowly, little to no gas will be squirted.
@@MotocrossHideout Anyone who drives vespas 2 stroke , LEARN THAT !
You can absolutely hold it open. Holding it open does nothing but let more air in. It only injects fuel when you first actuate the throttle.
I grabbed a crf250f at a great deal. Do you have any videos on maintenance such as chain cleaning and lube etc
Congrats! Not specifically. I honestly don't do a lot of chain cleaning unless it's really bad. It's usually easiest to take the chain off and soak it in something. As far as lube, you'll get a lot of different answers. Most chain lubes are fine. O-ring chains don't need as much maintenance/lube because they're sealed. One tip that I do recommend is lubing the chain AFTER a ride or at least after riding for a few minutes. When the chain is warm, the lube should more easily reach every part of the chain, and if you do it at the end of a ride, you won't get it "flinging" off onto the rest of your bike, which is difficult to clean.
My 50cc 2 stroke scooter. When i change the 80cc piston and culynder on the starts like 2-3 seconds has pull god then the rpm drop and after that if you give half or full throtle its hesitate dont want to accelering right and after whole throtle its need like 4-5 second then its going like crazy what you think it cause that?
Hard to say for sure. Did it have this problem before changing the piston and cylinder?
@ no before that it was good. And i check the transsmision its all good. Muby need biger jets what you think?
@@darkogligorov3181 Hmm, sounds like it might have an air leak and is causing a "lean bog". If it didn't happen before the rebuild, then it might be something that wasn't properly installed/tightened after replacing the piston and cylinder.
@@MotocrossHideout where are the comon places to cause air leak?
@@darkogligorov3181 Loose carb clamps,, old/cracked intake boot/manifold, cracked/missing gasket or o-ring, air screw more than 3 turns out or it fell out, etc. You can try spraying brake cleaner or similar around the carb while the engine is idling. If the RPM changes, then there's an air leak. That won't identify 100% of problems, but it's a quick way to diagnose some.
Just a small correction, needle effects idle onwards, straight diameter will effect idle
Yes, based on what I've learned, the needle has a small effect on idle. But for 99% of carb tuning, this process works great for me. Thanks for watching :)
The ChrisFix for dirt bikes… just a good informative channel. 🤙🏼
Had to look him up, lol. Thanks for your kind words!
I’m considering getting one of these but my concern is finding parts. Have you had any issues finding replacement parts?
Yeah they're not as easy as current bikes but most parts can still be sourced. totallyttrs.com/ has a good inventory. They're UK based but it only took 5-7 days to deliver some plastics I bought to my home in Minnesota.
So for my yz85 I'm running 32:1 and it ran good for a while but now it's taking like 40 kicks just for it to start and then it just dies no matter what I do after a few seconds of it starting and I'm burning through a sparkplug everytime I try to start it do you know any way to fix it
Sounds like it might be low on compression, unfortunately! Here are some other common signs: th-cam.com/video/uZXQ2T_nHIQ/w-d-xo.html
Very helpful, thanks for posting
I'm glad it was helpful - thanks for watching!
My 2004 suzuki 125 drz-l recently started making a spooling noise on down rev and it's low on power and was rebuilt couple months ago. Do you think it's a bearing?
Are you saying that it takes longer for the RPM to settle when you shut off the throttle?
@MotocrossHideout not really it just is spooling when I go from high rpm to idle so I think it's a bearing
What does it mean when I'm cruisin, then my bike suddenly loses power and is hard to start back up again?
Hard to know for sure without more details. If it's liquid-cooled, is there still coolant in the radiator? Have you done a compression test?
what will I change if my motorcycle is good at idle to half throttle position, but when I go 3/4 to WOT it's like hesitate for a second or two then get like a power surge. it also has a pinging or tiktiktik sound while hesitating.
Sounds like it might be running lean. What have you tried so far? Is this a new problem?
@MotocrossHideout My bike is a 2nd hand 175cc china bike, and I think this is not the stock carburetor because it looks like a fake PZ30 carburetor. I'm afraid to fix it, because I don't know where to start
30mm sounds fairly big for a 175cc engine. Starting with one simple change will make it simple. If it gets better, I know I'm in the right direction. If it gets worse, I go back to the previous setting or go the other direction.
My yz85 gear one has limiter 2 trys to die out all time but when i turn petrol of it shoots for about 10 seconds becfore cutting of
They're a great bike - I've got one for knocking about on the fire trials here in the Victorian Goldfields 🇦🇺 Only things l've needed to do on mine is replace the sprag clutch (full process BTW on my channel) Also because l'm only 5'8" l lowered the suspension 40mm so l can get my feet flat on the ground - Cheers 👍

@MotocrossHideout worked out well. The fuel-air screw on his bike was maybe an eighth of a turn out 🙄. I backed it out a turn and a half and it is better. May come out another half turn. Also pulled the snorkel.
Sweet! Yeah I ended at 2.5 turns out I think. Probably would've worked nearly the same as going to a bigger size pilot jet, but I like the ability to adjust when needed.
@@MotocrossHideout I'm going to rejet too but it would need to be adjusted anyway. Jets are hard to find but I did find some info on a forum.

Hey man i have the fcr mx carb and i noticed my accelerator pump arm isnt moving with the throttle, it only squirts when i push it manually
Is the spring or arm corroded? Might have to take the throttle slide and mechanism completely off and see what's holding it back. That's my first thought. Let us know what you find.
@MotocrossHideout I believe the metal arm is bent, I also believe I didn't assemble it correctly too, but I'm not sure on how to put the spring back on the plastic arm because I took it off
@MotocrossHideout the arm is in perfect working order but it seems a little bent, the screw and spring don't seat on the plastic arm correctly, unfortunately I have damaged the carb in the act of fixing it, but the damage isn't too bad, will update when I've got it fixed
@MotocrossHideout okay I am reassembling the carb but do you have any idea on how to put the spring for the plastic arm back, I can't pull it back
i got a 250 CC fuel injected motorcycle when i’m driving its running perfectly fine but when i get around 7-8k rpms in any gear it boggs if i slightly pull the throttle it will work through the bogging. sometimes when i open full throttle it boggs really bad is it lean or rich? Thank you in advance
Which sound is it making from this video?
@@MotocrossHideout like 23 seconds into your video that noise 😂 love the sounds by the way it helps a lot i just need to know what to do to fix it
@@faithnelson8249 23 seconds would be rich. Is the air filter clean? Is this a new problem?
@@MotocrossHideout it’s not new I cleaned the one that it has out but still the same issue …
@@faithnelson8249 Does it have a fuel filter? I'd make sure that's clean.
This video had saved me last person installed their throttle slide plate upside down and all my problems since fixing have disappeared
All it takes is one little thing... Glad you were able to get it figured out! Thanks for sharing :)

Did you find this helpful? Learn how to easily tune the air/fuel screw in just a few minutes: 2 stroke - motocrosshideout.com/carb/ 4 stroke - motocrosshideout.com/fuel/
Hey! Can you actually change the air-fuel ratio (or map) of a 4-stroke car engine too?
Yes, usually with an aftermarket tuner, depending on the car/system. It's usually not helpful/worthwhile unless modding the engine/exhaust/intake.
@@MotocrossHideout Please bare with me as I'm not an expert and also from Brazil so I'm a bit confused about terminology here. By "aftermarket tuner" you mean a "professional scanner" ? Like those big devices that are plugged in the OBD2 system of a car? Are these two devices the same?
@@angelamartim8337 No, not a scanner. If your car is running poorly, I would take it to a trusted mechanic.
@@MotocrossHideout Alright.
