    I'm 6'3" and 300 lbs. I'm not very experienced but I did have a few bikes as a kid (1975 Honda Z50 Monkey Bike at 6yo, 1987 Kawasaki KX80 at 12yo, 1991 Yamaha DT50 moped at 15yo + my dad's 1982 Honda VF750S also at 15 years old). I never got good or brave enough to do wheelies and jumps or any sort of competitive riding but I was otherwise quite comfortable driving these bikes. I'm 47 now (48 in august) and I'm oput of shape. I can loose 90 lbs but it's going to take some time. I figured some light enduro would be a good exercise, as driving that KX80 as a kid was perhaps the most fun I've ever had. I'm guessing a 300cc 2-stroke would work well for me, perhaps with some stiffer springs and a raised handle bar? I don't have to go fast but I want a really torquey bottom end for the really slow and steep parts of the trails. Budget wise it doesn't matter too much, but considering this is my first bike as an adult, and I will also have to buy all the gear, I think a new bike is out of the question. I'd prefer not to pay more than $7,000 in total for both the bike and all the gear. Would appreciate any advice.

      Riding a dirt bike is a lot different than a MTB in the woods due to the weight, size and power. I would strongly recommend staying away from a 250 MX or Enduro race bike, but a 250 or 230, such as the CRF250F or TTR230 would be great to start on at your size.

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good question. I'd consider it a trail bike, similar to the newer CRF250F or KLX300R. The engine is solid with great torque and is very reliable. The biggest complaints are usually: it's kind of heavy (especially if you're a smaller/weaker rider), and it doesn't have electric start, which can make it hard to restart when it's hot or on the side of a hill. If it got E-start, EFI, and stayed the same weight, it would be an awesome trail bike for bigger/taller riders.

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout วันที่ผ่านมา

      Gotcha. It sounds to me like the engine isn't fully warmed up because you shouldn't leave the choke on while riding. Once the engine is fully warmed up and the choke is off, the bike should be able to idle, and then you can make accurate jetting decisions, if that makes sense.

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout วันที่ผ่านมา

      It sounds like it might be lean. Make sure there are no air leaks (caused by loose carb clamps or cracked intake boot). I would probably try the 40 again and keep it running until the engine is fully warmed up so that it will idle and run without the choke. You may have to adjust the idle screw.

      No problem. One common mistake is staring at the rut just past your front fender (almost looking down at the ground). This makes it harder to balance because you go where you look. Try looking ahead to the end of the rut (or farther, if possible). Also, with your body, getting your butt up and off the seat and letting the bike move around under you can help keep the bike upright (this requires some balance from your legs and core). Let us know if that makes sense and helps :) -Kelley

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good question. From what I know, the single-camshaft is a more simple design (less parts) and it produces more low-end/midrange torque. Honda changed to a DOHC design in 2018 on the 250 for better peak HP and over-rev because it was lacking compared to the other brands.

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's definitely one symptom. That usually means it's running rich, which could just be the jetting, but it could be a very dirty air filter or perhaps a worn out engine that's running low on compression.

    Probably not practical for a beginner because of availability and price but a trials motorcycle is a great training bike. It's all about balance, throttle and clutch control while dragging the brakes. They get really powerful too but it's a different kind of power. They are very slow and you have no choice but to learn slow riding techniques while standing up. Many adults buy 80 and 125 cc which is more than enough bike unless someone weighs more than 180 pounds. I'm 128 pounds and bought a 300. Please don't do this lol. I put a low compression head and slow action throttle on and that helps tame it down some but a less powerful bike would be much easier to ride. And again they are hard to find and expensive but trials style riding is a blast and your not moving very fast at all. I really enjoy your videos thanks for your time and efforts

      Sounds like an electrical/wire issue - check the wiring of the kill switch to see if it's binding or broken/rubbing on something.

    I Bought the 2023 Honda CRF250F and ALL the Riding gear but still have a little fear because My Yard is so Small I'm scared of Running into the Fence, The Green House and the Garage 😂 its funny this Property have 41 Acres of land but this is West Virginia and it Hilly Land, i need something Flat to start out then when I feel Confident enough I'll try the Hill.

      Hey Patrick, congrats on your bike - that's a great choice to start out on! Yes, I can totally relate - I remember when I was intimidated by big hills when I was a newbie! How big is the flat part of your yard?

      @MotocrossHideout The Flat Part of My Yard is About 20 Feet wide by 14 Feet Long. I was trying to Ride around this Evening and I Stalled 3 Times in About 30 minutes, I just need the confidence to go in a complete Circle without crashing into the Fence 😅 If I can Muster Up the Courage and the Skill to Control the Throttle and Not Fall Over going in a Circle then I'll be okay.

    I'm thinking about a hawk 250 dlx efi. I sat on a Honda crf 300l in a show room once. Never have ridden but I want it real bad. I have advertised on craigslist and facebook marketplace for a tutor. No one answers, I guess it's the liability issues. I am 63 years old, pretty fit, 5' 9" 200lbs. I think the Hawk might be a good fit but I am on my own. No tracks nearby, no riders either. I am in Maryland, there are some tracks in Pennsylvania but no teaching courses. Dirt bike boot camp is over four hours away and I just can't spend the money involved for hotel stay, courses etc. I am using TH-cam tutorials like yours for all the info I can get. But for the most part i am on my own. Thanks.😊

      @@MotocrossHideout I just want to sit on a bike and try my balance, move forward, and try low shifting. Braking (rear & front) etc in a confined space with supervision. When I sat on the Honda in the dealership, the thing that felt weird was having that much weight between my legs. I know I just can't jump on a bike and take off, but I can't even start, so I'm just gonna buy the bike and go it by myself. My apartment building sits on about 3-4 acres with a dirt drive circling this old building. I have helmet, boots, pants & gloves, gotta get the bike soon. Best, mark.

      @@markkotishion2379 Okay, gotcha! If you don't need a street legal bike right away, I recommend starting on a lighter trail bike, such as the CRF250F or even a CRF125FB. You're a little on the heavy side for it, but that's fine for just starting out and learning, then as you feel more comfortable, you could upgrade. I also recommend checking out my 30-day beginner video series. Let me know what you think, Mark!

      @@MotocrossHideout Actually, I want to get the dual sport first, for secondary two-laners and have trail capability. Not looking at hare scrambles or flying 40ft off of a jump clicking my heels together (not this year anyhow). But I can't find a bike to get on, the Harley courses use regular street hogs and i want a leaner bike to learn on. M

    300cc 2 stoke is way to much for a beginner let alone a female wanting to step up. A 150cc to 200cc 2 stroke is plenty enough power even then a 85 -112 - 125cc 2 stroken is a pretty big jump from a klx140 or a crf125 4strole especially if they haven't ridden a bike with power band before. i do agree with you on that a 125 140cc 4stroke is a good first bike . I just dont see why a female who's just learnt to ride let a lone a male thats just jumped of a 125 or 140cc 4stroke has any business on a 300 2-stroke im not saying it isn't possible iv been riding cr250 cr500 and xr650r sine i was 13 but iv ridden my hole life. Im just saying a 300cc 2stroke is a big jump for any one. Its takes a proper professional to be able to fully handle the bike to its full potential and is not for the faint-hearted it's a bit like jumping from a corolla to a Lamborghini. This is for any female out there wondering and could be a massive disaster in the making jumping from a 125/140cc for stroke to a 300 2stroke i would start off on a 85cc and see if you like the powerband and get a feel for it 1st and then mybe jumping up to a 125cc 2stroke or a 200cc 2 stroke before buying a 300 because the 300 is going to be 300x Fast and more powerfull and unpredictable then a 125/140cc air cooled 4 stroke it would even be a jump from a 250cc water cooled 4stroke hope this helps some one make the right decision

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yep, that's why I said I don't recommend a 2 stroke for beginners. I only recommended the Beta 200 or 300 XTrainer to experienced riders. They're not nearly as aggressive as a KTM 300, for example. I should've been more specific on what "more experienced riders" means, but to me it sounds like you took my recommendations out of context. I gave different bikes for different sizes and skill levels of female riders. As for an 85cc, I think that's a bad decision unless you're racing MX because the power curve is like a lightswitch that's unpredictable to newer riders. The 200 would be easier to ride aside from the seat height due to its smoother power characteristics.
