Merle Haggard IS the voice of the American 'Blue Collar' workers. Merle is the sage of my generation :)

You hear that voice, and it's Merle Haggard ( The Hag) no confusion, no second thoughts. No one to compare to. Then his lyrics, his delivery! RIP HAG, One of the Truly All Time Country Greats.

Great song to start down the rabbit hole. Mama never had the luxuries she want but it wasn't because my Daddy didn't try. How poignant. Great reaction and analysis.

I was raised listening to all of these singers. I didn't know of any other music out there. It was good.

Never be another Merle. I'm quite content to listen to his music the rest of my days instead of what radio is playing today or will play tomorrow.

You are very welcome. I have very fond memories of my time in Oklahoma. I went to school and worked in Edmund in the late 80s.

@@DjPjrocReacts911 cool. I’m north-central. If you ever get this way, I’ll take you to a real rodeo. I say real because it’s what we do. Every single weekend. No vacations when you have horses. I’ve enjoyed your reactions very much.

I suggest "One Row At A Time," and "Tulare Dust" These are the dust Bowl Trilogy. Three songs from this singer that tell the story of displaced peoples, and the poverty and discrimination they faced.

Merle Haggard is the true King of country music. When you take into consideration his singing, songwriting and the absolute depth and truth of his songs, no one else comes close.
Merle was an absolute master at taking his own life experiences, altering them slightly and creating tremendously moving art.

Merle grew up in the labor camps of Bakersfield where he help define the Bakersfield sound. I live in Bakersfield and had many old timers tell me of Merle standing on a truck tailgate playing his guitar and singing in the labor camps.

One of the reasons Merle was so beloved, as a poet and singer; he could communicate much through his music. But what is truly sad is that, decades later, so many could still identify with this song and feel it was written for them. Merle’s music is timeless.

@@DjPjrocReacts911 and did you notice the music, it doesn’t compete, it enhances. One thing I have noticed about a lot of modern music is that the background drowns out the singer.

There is no question, the stuff i've heard so far, of-course features his voice while maintaining a beautiful balance. I love the mixing here, real old school.

I would suggest "Mama Tried" but I remember you doing it a while back, so .. (and, yeah, I checked this time, too). But he has about a zillion others. You cannot go wrong here.
