But to their surprise, the restaurant was open and they got chased out. A cop down the road pulled them over, and Merle ran to a nearby train station in an attempt to escape on a train, but there were no trains due to holiday. A few days later, he escaped out of the front door of the jail, and was later caught again going to his brother's. Because he kept escaping, the judge decided to send him to the San Quentin maximum security prison in California.. He saw Johnny Cash perform while he was imprisoned there. He eventually got out an made a legendary music career for himself. There's even a video where he does great impersonations, and he does one of Johnny Cash. And in the middle of it, Johnny Cash himself comes onto the stage and starts singing with him.. Talk about life coming full circle.
