The Ducati Monster is arguably the companies "bread and butter" bike. It is loved by many and is their staple bike that brings people into the company and introduces them to the product. This was the 796 Monster. It has a slightly smaller sibling (the 696)
The 796 comes equipped with ABS, has an air cooled "L-Twin" motor with desmodromic valves
Once on the bike and tolling you immediately understand the live affair people have with this bike. The sound alone is intoxicating.
A few sobering moments was a quick reminder that it is a machine and subject to flaws. Nothing in the world is perfect but certainly perfection is what comes to mind when you think of a motorcycle like this. Riding the bike was essentially effortless. Clutch pull is was almost effortless and gear changing was also quite pleasant.
Getting the bike into neutral seemed to present a challenge and before I thought it just might be something i was doing wrong I was able to discover other owners experiencing the same problems.
Owning a Ducati can be an expensive proposition because of maintenance associated costs but I'm thinking that concern might dissolve as for the delight the machine will bring to pretty much any rider that is able to write a substantial check at intervals.
There is no gear indicator and for the bike which for the price is a bit astonishing.

I have a 2013 December 795(796 has single-sided swing arm, only difference). I have done just about 34k kilometers of mostly long distance riding. I changed the mirrors as they were pretty useless and added a slightly taller wind screen. For my me being 5'-6" tall it is a perfect fit. I am on my third set of Metzeler tires. I have changed brake pads, timing belts, chain and sprockets once. Plus regular oil/filter changes. It is an extremely forgiving, having terrific brakes and superlative handling motorcycle. It has never stopped on my for anything, in any weather. It has debunked the myth that Ducati (Italian) bikes are unreliable. Yes, if not done privately the maintenance can be expensive, its the ONLY downside. I can't seem to find anything to suit my height, weight and age,76 finished... better in the market. If one looks ate the Ducati history of motorcycle models, the Monster is the longest lasting best selling bike ever... what else can one say..

I've never had any issues with finding neutral on my 696 but the tranny was a little "clanky" at times but has smoothed out considerably over time. Nice review Zone Television i rode the 796 and didn't think there was much difference between it and 696. Maybe a little more grunt. I was glad I didn't pay the extra money for 100cc's and 4 more hp.

TorqdOff That seems to be the general consensus with other guys I've talked with.

I just did the valve service in Minnesota. less than $600. The the price for maintenance on this video might be a little high, by about double.

i just bought one in minnesota, haven't even drove it home yet, may need service next spring. I figure relatively speaking, the costs should be reasonable for what we are buying.. an italian motorcycle...

Go to Lakeville. I'm currently replacing a Starter in Monticello, and they ordered the wrong starter once, and their only ducati tech was out on training for almost a month during the last month of minnesota riding season, which is just poor planning, so it's been over a week since he's been back, and they haven't gotten the starter replaced yet... it's just not cool.

Definetly an awesome bike , I have a weak spot for v twins .. I love the rumble sound that they make, something very inspiring about it .. I will be the first to say if I were to purchase a ducati, I will not complain about cost of maintenance , cause I figure I damn well should be ready for that from the beginning .

I'm still really considering picking up a Monster s2r 800 or 1000 in the future. Been thinking about those bikes for years now, not sure why I didn't just buy one during a bike change of mine.

Given the maintenance costs with a Ducati you might as well get the one you want. The smaller Ducs aren't really that much cheaper to service than the bigger ones and the Total Cost of Ownership isn't that much different overall. The newer ones do have a longer maintenance interval, though.

Why does everyone think the maintenance costs are so high on these bikes?? I bought one of these after 20 years of Honda/Yamaha ownership...I paid $150 for 600 mile svc and $800 for 7500 mile svc. My CBR1000RR costs just as much in the 1st 10k miles as this bike...

Solid review. To experience and hear the true Monster, it's best to review the Duc with Termignoni exhaust and ECU upgrade (added HP). It's a completely different beast. Currently my Duc runs completely different with the upgrades I've done so far. The bike does melt into corners lol. Neutral tends to be sketchy when the bike is brand new but after the break in period, you're golden! Does that model include ABS? Great job Zo Te. Keep the vids coming! :)

Funny you should say the dude just got termignoni's on there lol.
I'm sure he'll let me do a follow up review. Hope we can ride sometime. Thanks for the props. Much appreciated.

Zone Television yep Right now there is a good deal of 696 for me, I don't know if I should got this bike. Any big difference between 796 and 696?? Just 87HP and 80HP?

    • @ZoneTelevision
      @ZoneTelevision  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

zhengyu Ban The 796 also has the single swing-arm which makes for easier servicing on the bike and also is better for resale value.

Im sorry to say but all Ducati monster is Rubbish , the clutch heats up in traffic , its very badly balanced, the breaks heat up quicker than a scooter, to get to the battery you have to go through over 30 bolts and half the bike. and last but not least its front side is way too high for such a light bike ;)

+Mustafa N Kamil Mine has been pretty nice to me for the last few years. $700 valve service at 8K miles, based on my last service and riding style I will push the next one out to 18K, so far it's been cheaper than my Harleys were in the first 3 years of ownership, and I don't have to set foot in a fashion store to get my service done, so bonus!
