The entire first half of this could be answered easily: "Because it is fun." Not everyone needs to "get something out of it" other than the experience itself. Some people just enjoy jiu jitsu..and that is the real goal right? If you enjoy it, if you find it fun...then you will get better over time. Who cares if they get stomped? Imagine telling people they can't do a spelling bee, or a talent show because they aren't good enough to even try. Jiu Jitsu doesn't always have to be so serious. Have some fun!
I want to get a no BS personal assessment against someone who actually wants to beat me. Plus setting little goals along the way keeps you motivated and moving forward.
Honesty, this is the first time my friends and family has ever seen me do jiu jitsu in the face. I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for 7 months now, and I have a hard time realizing how much I know. I feel like this will be a good time to showcase to my friends and family as well as myself what I know about jiu jitsu. Also, life experience.
I want to have something to work toward. A goal, a date on the calendar. I’m almost more excited for the lead up to the tournament rather than the tournament itself. And I want to eat with my team afterward!
Depends on the person. I'm doing comps to have something to train for. To test my defenses and to get comfortable under comp settings again. I've boxed and wrestled. The adrenaline and nerves alone is something to get used to. I'm working up to a mma fight so these are great starters. I also wanna grow the grappling game in my area
The answer is simple, sparring with my team in my bjj school is great, but when you compete you go full capacity against other bjj practioners is a whole different animal, plus i want to represent my school as well.
I train enough. I do compete. But to me is a hobby, not a career. I compete because I like to test myself. If I lose, I lose. If I win, I win! There is always a bigger lion out there. As long as we stop being so afraid of losing, we can focus on the fun part of it. So far, I have been doing ok.
I train and fight to improve he better and use jiu jitsu as a release the freedom and good feeling of being able to be on the mat and get armbars sweeps and rear naked chokes is amazing.
Really don’t think it’s this deep…obviously you enjoy jiu jitsu, you spend your time training. If you have the drive to compete Nike that shit and just do it.
