2005 MXZ Renagade SDI. 2400 miles and like new. Started the season and we were good to go as always. Parked sled in lawn shed. Next day tried to start. Nothing. Checked battery, reseated relays, checked fuses...All good. Searced for help on TH-cam and watched this vid...Performed the pencil eraser hack....Chirp came right back started right up. New tool for the travel kit!!! Thank you................
Jeff, I recorded that video without a remote mic so my sound level was likely on the low side. I'm still learning about balancing out my volumes. I apologize for the loud logo clip, but thanks for checking out the video!
Tommy Lee, I couldn't believe it when I tried your trick!!! Couldn't get my sled started so starting looking at videos and figured it can't hurt to try. Took the eraser out to my sled and performed this and BAM it started right up!!!
I have a 2017 Ski-Doo Expedition with a 900 ace engine and DESS thether system. Took it out in preparation for an ice fishing trip. could only get up to 25 mph regardless of which tether (white or green) I used. After viewing your video , I tried some alcohol on a Q-tip and wiped both key and post. WORKED PERFECTLY!! Sled took off like a rocket!!! Thank you for the suggestions .Saved me a trip to the Dealer.
Had the same issue...used Isopropyl alcohol with a q-tip to clean both surfaces thoroughly then applied a thin layer of NO-OX-ID A-Special- Electrical Contact Grease (NOT dielectric grease which would have the opposite effect) also with a clean q-tip, worked like a charm. Thanks for posting this video. Cheers
Thanks Dave! That's some excellent advice. I work in a mill, so I'll see if one of my electrician brothers has a little NO-OX-ID. Thanks for watching and commenting! Much appreciated.
Just tried this. I have an 07 GTX 80. it didn’t work but I jiggled all the connections on the battery, solenoid, and battery and she fired up. Will clean up all the connections this weekend. Thanks for the tip and added a pencil to the rear bag just in case 👍
Excellent hack man ! Darren Davidson outdoors sent me over to your channel . New supporter here . If my next sled has one I’ll let ya know my last sled was a 73 lol didn’t have to worry about tethers just hanging on 😂 thanks for sharing
Had problems w d e s s also. Put plastic tie-down around d e s s. No longer"dogs" out due to vibration. Used small hose clamp b4 that. Both worked on my 03 rev 600. Made better connections I guess.....
Thanks Glen! Yes, I agree. Once your post and button contacts are clean, that will help the button stay tight on the post. The only problem is when you have to leave your sled outside a restaurant or bar. No worries if you're always with your sled. Thanks for checking out the vid!
A tiny amount of WD40 will fix the failure to start and annoying beeping. Don’t spray directly on the key, use a q-tip to apply. It should last all season.
Well, if you know your battery is good, you could try to clean your tether contacts and then apply a bit of wd-40 to the contacts. But, it could be a different problem altogether. I hope you get it running. Cheers!
Does this work with a no start an battery blinking problem. I have a 06 600 ho sdi I've charged the battery gave the rer button a start cause it has a capacitor for the injectors i suppose. It doesn't start it has before but this is my first problem with this machine
I'm not a sled mechanic Collin but it sounds like this might work for you. After you clean the contacts with the eraser, try following up with a bit of wd-40 on a q-tip as suggested in another comment. I hope that works for you!
@@NorthernADV i didn't do the eraser deal but I did do the wd-40 clean wipe deal an it started within a couple pulls. Glad it wasn't worse then what it had to be. I was thinking it mightve been the valves but wasn't so glad it wasn't.
@@collinsmith9572 Hey that's awesome! I'm glad that worked for you. My sled is also an 06 600 ho sdi. I'll post more tips vids this winter if I run into any issues. Happy sledding!
@@NorthernADV hey thats the same model I got but it got a lot less then what you have on yours. I'm missing a few stuff but it still starts an runs im glad that's out of the way.
If the cord is the correct one for the sled (programmed initially for that sled) then cleaning it this way might be all it needs. Good luck, I hope it works.
I'm not a sled mechanic, but I'm thinking the dealership will need to order you a new key. They might need your sled to reprogram it, but I'm not sure.
I think you're right Brent. You could pull a plug and check for spark. That might help you determine if it's not getting spark or not getting fuel. I hope you get it running. Cheers!
I hear ya! From what I've read though, there is no easy way around it. But once you've cleaned your button and post, try applying a little wd-40 with a q-tip. Should make a world of difference! Best of luck.

I was listening to this with ear buds and the volume of your commercial about blew my ear drums out!!!!! Seriously

Thank god those tethers are long gone. Not sure when they replaced them. 2020 ish i think.

Thanks for tip. This helped so far. Wouldn't mind polishing if I can find the right dremel tip
@@80srockerable - Update: it works great but might not last all season!
@fairbanksairriders Design seems buggy.. wish they just had a normal key. Of course it currently is -12° outside.
03 MXZ 800 Sport. Mine was really bad. This worked amazing!!!!
Thanks for watching Joe! Happy sledding!
Or you could bypass the tether and install a standard mechanical tether
Please do you have some tips for this ? Or link ?
yeah my electric start doesnt do anything when i hit the button

I tried Q tip w alcohol only on the tether seemed to be less problematic will try w the eraser on post and tether, will give update.
Still have the start problem tried alcohol and the eraser, another suggestion is clean 30 amp fuse receptacle and or change fuse let you know.
I just left my 2002 800 in the woods with this same issue.
I hope this helps you out Matt. Good luck getting your sled going.
Can u do this with a cord that does not work but will try

Never remove the tether
2017 skidoo 550 F cranks over but no start, problably not the same issue as key connection

Just put the DESS on the ski and leave it there!
You don't use the tether anyway! 😅😂
05 ski doo 1000 highmark, trick worked😊
Awesome!!
Why can’t I just jumper between the two?
Because there is some kind of little anti-theft chip in there.
I have a 2009 mxz going to put a pencil in my storage compartment all that will fit.😂😂😂
