Made me feel nostalgic watching you shred on that old doo today. This just goes to show how technically diversified your riding style is. You're an example of the man makes the machine, not what machine makes the man. I absolutely loved watching this! Best video yet!
Ahhhh a real green guy can’t get himself in trouble to bad on a sled like this but a xm or gen4 it’s really easy for someone green to find themselves in a place they shouldn’t be
its nice to see you do a vid like this. definately hilarious, but it shows that the older sleds are capable to ride those conditions fo people that cant afford newer sleds. thank you
Great content idea. Loved the sled geometry comparison. Really only need to see a gen 1 Rev now. Amazing seeing you ride it the way you did. Can't wait to get back on the mountain to add up some seat time.
I still can't get used to the look of the new machines. Technology is so much better today but yet the look of those old 90's Skidoo and Polaris cabs is for me so much better.
Awesome. This speaks to me. I got addicted last winter in upstate NY on a 2000 Indy 500. Now im in Alaska ripping an 05 summit 800. Maybe an homage to the rev soon?
136 inch. Man that was the sled to beat back in the day. Runs decent too, those 700s were fantastic. Had a 151 inch high mark option back then. Great video, brings back my early mountain sled years, ear bleeding loud cams and 550 pound sleds lol. Good stuff.
The new sleds are awesome technology wise and it's crazy what you guys can do on them but as far as videos go this is one of the best. I really enjoyed watching the older sled ripping the pow, would love to see more of it and possibly different brands and or years if possible. Either way another awesome video!
I LOVE restomodded sleds! I am am doing my dream build right now. Two years ago, I bought a 98 xc 700 that I stripped down to the bare chassis. I had my cousin who works for General motors design team help me, He scanned the stock chassis, I told him my idea/plan so he designed my bulk head and tunnel for a couple things, one thing was to fit two track sizes, a 1.25" studded track if I decide I want to trail ride and a 3" lug if i want to go play in the deep snow. He also designed it so the chassis is much better, it triangulates the chassis/front suspension, which is designed so that I can fit/run the fox float 3 front shocks all while keeping the factory hood/ belly pan mounting points. I make carbon fiber parts, so I made a mold of the stock hood and belly pan, and I made them carbon fiber. I've been making carbon fiber and titanium suspension parts, I made carbon fiber trailing arms and a bunch of other carbon fiber parts. I had the bulk head made at a local fab shop out of titanium tube that I then skined with carbon fiber panels. The sled sits higher and has a lot more suspension. The rear skid I got from a axys rmk 146 with carbonfiber rails. I took out the stock chaincase and made it a belt drive system. Im at about $20-25k in parts/materials . I wanted to run a htg 1000 tripple but didnt have the room for 3 pipes with how we designed the bracing/shock towers, then i debated running a new 800 or 850 and decided to kist run a 98 xc700 motor so I kept the 98 xc700 motor, I had it bored, ported polished, team clutches, vforce reeds, open carps with frogskin type filters. I had to take twin pipes, cut them, and shape them to fit. It's almost done now im going to paint the hood red and instead of decals im going to have them tape off the hood so that instead of the factory decals the carbon fiber will be exposed and in the shape of the factory decals. The tunnel is exposed carbon fiber. I will be doing a full write up and sending it to snowgoer and snowest it will be on some facebook pages as well. Im super excited for this sled! Its extremely light and is the ultimate wedge chassis polaris.
Now that is prolly one of the best videos u have done.. that's what our rag tag fleet looks like... It was fun to see what a professional rider like u could do with old sleds like that.... Absolutely awesome... Keep em coming.....
I think 144" was longest track back in the day... crazy that Cody Borchers, Geoff Kyle, and Ross Mercier used to do huge drops and jumps on those things with 6" of suspension travel
Riding on something like that old out dated fossil is all I known or ever experienced. They seemed so advanced at the time. Hence why I like the channel so much. It’s worlds apart from what I used to do. I’m in constant “wow” mode watching these videos.
THIS is the video I've been waiting for! After a 14 year hiatus, I'm finally getting back in to sledding after selling everything back in the 2008 housing crash. Got my Dads time capsule sled out of storage, 2003 Summit X Highmark Extreme 800 HO 159, with 444 miles on it. Gets lot of looks in the parking lot, thumbs up from the old guys (Jerrys), and blank stares from the Millennials lol. Your videos have been a huge inspiration to me, specifically the "No Snowmobile Has Gone Before". That one really convinced me it was time. Currently shopping for probably a Summit XM T3, seems to be the best bang for the buck right now. BTW, that sled probalby has the 136x15x1.75 track. Popular mod back in the day was SLP rail extensions, and a 151x16x2 track.
My friends dad had this sled back in 2000 and I rode it as a 9 year old kid a few times. Good to see that people had the brains to increase the track back then because engineers should know better than to put a 136" track and call it a "summit", geez........ I am also getting back into sledding after a 10 year break!
This was a super fun video to watch. Would love to see a video where you got a 201x and see what happened in those years. And then do a 2000 years old -> 2010 years old -> 2023
Great video! Just goes to show you how much talent it took to ride those older chassis sleds compared to the ones made now. Not a single bow tie or hop over made on that chassis. Keep up with the great content. Ride Safe.
Nice seeing that older out... We run MXZ 670 98 & 99... They're beasts of motors and very easy to work on... Our winters don't justify $10,000 sleds...my son (15) and I have great fun on local trails, river rides ect... The new stuff seems like its heavily influenced by the European conditions, not as much grooming and more back country riding.. Nothing more appealing than a mint vintage sled....brings back the best memories...
I watched this back when it came out almost a year ago. I watched it again today and it was just as much fun watching then the first time. Good stuff Matt!!
That was awesome watching someone shred an old xz! May not be a 2023 but the fact you held it wide open for aslong as you did its the reason why sleds are the way they are today, rock on!
Back in the day I was riding a Polaris SKS700. People thought it was to big for trail riding. I had a blast ditch banging and back country riding. You looked cool out there today!!
I watched this video with a big smile on my face! Just goes to show you that you don't need a 20K plus sled to get out & have some fun! What a great video!
Love this video! Watched it with my 11 year old son and he couldn’t believe this was the top of the pyramid when I was his age. Good stuff Matt, keep it coming!
Awesome seeing some affordable sleds ripping and you are still living every minute of it! The odd mixed in low cost sled segment would be well received along with the repair and adjustments related to the older sleds.
I had a 97 583 Rotary Valve Summit and a 2002 700. The 2002 was freaking awesome. I ran it completely out of oil one time and it seized up. We were way, way back in the boondocks, we pulled the plugs poured oil down there, put oil in the tank, etc, pulled it a few time and it ran and ran great. Had HPS can on it, very loud.
This is great, Matt! Nice change from the regular content. Nice to see what a ZX with a 136 skid can do. Now find a Rev chassis one and compare the three!
Good stuff man. I've been watching your videos for the last 2 weeks when I stumbled on your channel shortly after buying my first sled in 20 years (2012 switchback assault 800 144"). Coming from last riding a 1994 Supersport 440 121" to this is crazy feeling haha. Luckily the 20 year break makes it feel like a fresh start! This was a fun little change of pace of a video from all the others that I've been completely engrossed in. Thanks for the new content!!
Awesome content! Loved seeing you and your Dad riding old iron and reminiscing of your younger days! Your Dad was a blast to watch ripping on that sled.
I was smiling ear to ear this entire video! Great idea and it was even better seeing you handle it in the mountains. It would be great to see some modifications done to it to suit the habitat better.
That’s the best sounding sled out of the fleet! Best chassis to date and everyday folks could actually afford to ride. They could hold a side hill with the side hill ski made a world of difference!!! Long live the ZX!!!!🎉🎉 lol
Thanks for the great content ! Awesome video, this is just an idea, but it would be sick to put a longer track on it, somthin like a 146 (if its possible)so you can get through the pow better.
This brings me back to when I used to snowmobile. It’s exhilarating. That power is just there for you as soon as you hit that throttle. And that motor will work it’s ass off for you as long as you treat it right. You have to know it’s limits. But my god man that power out of that little 2 stroke motor is insane.
Thanks for the "blast from the past". Rode those sleds back in 2000 and thought we were cutting edge...........the progression of the mountain sled has been a fun journey. Matt, you rode that old Summit well.
Dude, your killing me, a mint shape Summit, a golden oldie at that, you ride the shit out of it with zero issues, your rocking bro. Keep it coming my friend, you are doing an awesome job on the content, you ride with some wicked riders now
Awesome video and i love the sound of that old summit 700 and awesome riding from you and this shows just how capeble a 23 year old ski-doo summit can be in the hands of a realy god rider like you
Love the content. Brings back great memories of riding with my brother. He had a 583 Summit, I was on a 600 Powder Special. We rode those things hard and had every bit as much fun on those sleds!
I loved watching you on this machine. From the GoPro I felt like I was back on my ol' yellow summit. And the sound. No I remember why I had earplugs. Wow! I enjoy your zest for riding and your great attitude. I'd love to ride with guys like you, always making it fun. Thanks for the memories.
Holy crap man, pre Rev sped, so hard to believe that was the standard, remover watching the Ski-doo promo vhs videos growing, remover when the Summit first came out, how much things have improved and then improved again. Keep it up Matt.
Just bought an 02 800 151. And started looking for vids and thats how i stumbled onto your channel. Now im doing more watching then you guys are riding. But this is my favorite vid so far. Hopefully get some riding in this weekend not much snow in the region right now. Im itching to burn some gas. Keep the content coming im loving it.
Awesome video Matt🤙 I grew up riding my dad's 04 king cat and rode it for almost 15 years. This is my first season on a new sled and it's so much different! Old iron's will always have a spot in my heart!
I rode a 2002 Skidoo summit 800 with a 159 for 10 years. They are a handful. that was state of the art back then. I wish I could still ride. These newer sleds are amazing.
just the fact that old girl keeps up with the other sleds is amazing. The rotax is an awesome engine and ski doo has always built the best frames for their year.
I still have my 1997 skidoo and runs great getting her ready for this winter up here North Ontario, Canada. she has never let me down and lost how many times ive had to tow my friends home 😌
Hey Matt, Thanks for sharing! I had a 2000 MXZ 670 H.O. with a 121x1.5. It was a fun machine and had bags of power! I took it to Valemount a few times. Too short for the really deep stuff but the 1.5 track got me in and out of most places.
Great video!!!! I looked for one of these sleds for a while and ended up making something similar out of an 2002 MXZ 600. 136 track, Boss seat, little bit of a bar riser...good to go and still manages to get me into trouble from time to time
Appreciate ripping the old iron… just goes to show as long as it runs good and track is long enough you can still get after it… even in the mountains… feel like some people need to know that awesome video
🔥right on man, great shape for the year. Sounds ported and polished to me.. I still have my 01 mxzx 440 just fun to go for a rip a bring back the old days 🔥👊🔥🔨🏍⚙️🪵🇨🇦
Awesome video! What would be sick is if you and your mates all get these old sleds like Polaris rmk, Sks, Mountain cat, Yamaha mountain max and drive together :D Would be a hell of a video, would be epic!
I have two of the same machine. One 2000 700 and one 800. I rode them all of high school and now I have a 14 pro rmk 800. Love the videos and the attention to detail. Keep up the great work Matt! 🤘🏻
oh man, i used to have one but not the summit variant, same pipe and a bunch of pics in the track! this brought back a lot of great memories! thanks for the vid :D
An amazing video with the old Summit, I am glad you did this because it’s great to see but to see where mountain sled are evolving. Remember, it’s those old sleds that got us to where we are today. Great Job! Maybe see if you can put a 2” track on it!
If you could modify how the rear skid sits on that sled alittle higher i think it would have no problem at keeping up. the motor is one of the best that brp ever created
I’ve been looking for this for this kinda video! Love this you should make a little series on modding it! Risers wrap some stuff like that! Would be fun and cheap build for all the budget riders!
We've been sledding since the early 80s and have owned and ridden hard on a ton of sleds just like this one. We'd spend an entire day to make it to the pass in Lamoille Canyon (Elko, NV) in deep powder. We had the time of our lives. The video brought back a lot of memories for my husband and I. Now sell that thing before you blow your eardrums out or have it go down in a bad spot out there. Hah! We don't want to go back to those sleds, ever!
Pullin out the ole iron! So cool, I just got my dads 1996 Thundercat 1107 triple running for the first time in 15 years. Went for a rip close to home got back and seen I had 1107 miles on the ole 1107cc!
Yooooo! This is what I've been waiting for! I cant afford all these new sleds, so I have always wanted to see how those old ones do up there! Thanks man!
Now imagine going back another 25 years to the mid to late 70's in Alaska and imagine the riding skills needed to high-mark, without bogging down/getting stuck. Not to say you guys aren't hella riders, because you are, but in pure skill and technique...us 'old guys' weren't too bad either. P.S. Even in the late 70's, the sleds were infinitely better than my very first one...a 1968 Polaris Colt! Were y'alls parents even born...in 68? LOLOL Keep up the great videos, so this 67 year old now living in Florida...can recall the 'Glory Days' of growing up riding in Alaska. 👍
Still have an oldie. SRX700. Pipes, Reeds and a cold air kit. Still holds it own on the trails but with 136x1.5 not so well in the powder. Transfer rods really helped it.
This video brings back memories of when I was little riding the old vertical escape and the old freestyle in exactly the same zones. Zero suspension and the stupid loud can. Makes me want to bring the old iron out this week on my trip to Blue river!
Grew up riding old iron, 96 summit 670. Just recently got an itch, picked up a 03 summit 144". And a couple 1G revs 144 and a 159, the difference between the two are night and day. Keep the old iron alive
This made me feel so good about my first sled ever that i just got. It's a 99 xc 700 with a 144 track on it so seeing you do this makes me feel like I'll be able to somewhat keep up with my buddies newer sleds
That 700 was one of Ski-Doos best ever motors! Way more durable than the 800 of the time and loads of bottom end power. Did a good amount of trail miles on a 2000 Formula Z 700, brings back memories.
@@NightshiftCustom we had a ‘98 Formula Z 670 in our group. 20,000kms and did a preventative rebuild, compression was still strong. It also had the revolutionary AD Boivin rear suspension. Fun sled too!
Got the same year and 700cc motor 121" track with 15800 miles on the old girl.still my go to for trail riding.ABSOLUTE BEAST, WISH I had a longer track but here in Northern Maine USA we don't get the power like out there, we get alot of heavy snow
The old summits were classic. I sold my old custom Mach Z last year. It has a M10 rear suspension with a 151 2" track and a custom Darrel Baker front end. Jaws triple pipes and custom cans, nothing beats the sound of and old tripple rumbling away. Heck I still have two Jaws 925 motor pickled in the shop, I need to find a good home for them too.
OMG, you bought it, it is exactly like my 98-99? !st year of Dess it was only on the 600 and They did not have the summit x out yet so for a short time (read one season) it was king of the un-moded mountain. This should be good (gets popcorn) "It doesn't go anywhere" "I cant do anything", Yep, that's the early summit's. You ALWAYS went up from the road line because you could easily run out of gas trying to find your way back up if you went below the road line. I am so glad to see you riding this just the same as I did my 600, and keep in mind, I was 6'2" and 220. lol We didn't roll the sleds out of stucks because it would tear the windshield off and without it any real snow just rode over the hood, blinded you and cut the air to the sled. #1 rule, don.t ever stop until you are pointed down hill, no exceptions. Just think, I accidentally did a 45' vertical hit on it. No trees or markers for miles, flat light, could not tell if you were looking past a cornice or just at flat snow. I was riding behind 5 other guys, fire fighters I worked with that had been riding here for decades so I trusted them and we all, one at a time went over the edge of the cornice and did not know we were going into freefall until we had committed. I was sure I was going to land on the guy in front of me because he was just bottoming out when I went into freefall. But he squirted out of the four guy deep bomb crater, and somehow I squirted out of the now five guy bomb hole. Afterwards it was hilarious, during it was "surprise! Be terrified!". lol
@@MuskokaFreerider Better, I had the 99 600 summit. it was, believe it or not, the most capable stock mountain sled available that year. It was the first year the summit got DESS and it was on the 600, (looks it up) yep, it was a 99 summit blue with yellow bits, and the only track you could get in 99 was a 136 by 15 with a 2.52" lug to tame all 100 ponies! lol
Had a few of these 2000 700 Summits and they were a ton of fun! We liked them more than our 800's for playing around. Had them in the 144" tracks and it was perfect for jumping and still getting into the back country.
Made me feel nostalgic watching you shred on that old doo today. This just goes to show how technically diversified your riding style is. You're an example of the man makes the machine, not what machine makes the man. I absolutely loved watching this! Best video yet!

I have 99 800 144track. My wife has 99 600 136track. Awesome sleds CHEERS from Alaska
its nice to see you do a vid like this. definately hilarious, but it shows that the older sleds are capable to ride those conditions fo people that cant afford newer sleds. thank you
Man this gave me the BIGGEST smile today! Would love to see little upgrades to this sled to make it reliable and hit the mountain more this season!
its actually badass to see you take an old sled out on the mountain to see how it hold up all these years later
Great content idea. Loved the sled geometry comparison. Really only need to see a gen 1 Rev now. Amazing seeing you ride it the way you did. Can't wait to get back on the mountain to add up some seat time.
I’d like too!
I got a gen1 rev with a 850 engine. If you come to norway you can test it out!
@@MuskokaFreerider please Doo! See what I did there… Bring a bunch of oldies with your crew to that same zone. Do a “Hot Tub Time Machine” edit! 🔥
Would be amazing to see a couple of you bringing old sleds to ride!@@MuskokaFreerider
I still can't get used to the look of the new machines. Technology is so much better today but yet the look of those old 90's Skidoo and Polaris cabs is for me so much better.
love the old school, not all can afford sleds like you you tubers
Or at least usually...
Matt has hard work money not “TH-cam money” he doesn’t sit around on his arse all day
Awesome. This speaks to me. I got addicted last winter in upstate NY on a 2000 Indy 500. Now im in Alaska ripping an 05 summit 800. Maybe an homage to the rev soon?

🙌🙌 thanks man. Would be cool to pick up something something a bit longer
Yes I remember riding those. Like riding a coffee table. Still sweet and only a triple could beat that sound 👍🏼 good video.
Loved that footage coming up the trail! I couldn't stop smiling / laughing. That thing rips!
I like seeing a modern technical rider on the older sleds. It really shows how the sport has evolved. I hope this becomes a thing.
just the fact that old girl keeps up with the other sleds is amazing. The rotax is an awesome engine and ski doo has always built the best frames for their year.
I still have my 1997 skidoo and runs great getting her ready for this winter up here North Ontario, Canada. she has never let me down and lost how many times ive had to tow my friends home 😌
Really fun seeing how far mountain sleds have come since the early 2000s, completely different beasts
23, now 24 years. 24 YEARS!!! 😮 seems like it was just yesterday when everyone was ripping around on those machines! 24 years!!! Holy!!! Haha
The hard metal while trail riding made me day 😂. Keep up the amazing videos muskoka.
That's so cool seeing a 23 year old sled killing it out there, your dad looked like he was having lots of fun
Hey Matt,
Thanks for sharing!
So fun watching an old sled, you can really tell your skills apply to the older sled also!
Awesome video! What would be sick is if you and your mates all get these old sleds like Polaris rmk, Sks, Mountain cat, Yamaha mountain max and drive together :D Would be a hell of a video, would be epic!
Thank you for not bitching and complaining the whole time wile riding a sled that cost as much as your current headlights.
That was fun
I have two of the same machine. One 2000 700 and one 800. I rode them all of high school and now I have a 14 pro rmk 800. Love the videos and the attention to detail. Keep up the great work Matt! 🤘🏻
“I’ll coach some of these guys in lines” then proceeds to get stuck* Love this video wish more guys would bring out the old sleds! Awesome!
oh man, i used to have one but not the summit variant, same pipe and a bunch of pics in the track! this brought back a lot of great memories! thanks for the vid :D
An amazing video with the old Summit, I am glad you did this because it’s great to see but to see where mountain sled are evolving. Remember, it’s those old sleds that got us to where we are today. Great Job! Maybe see if you can put a 2” track on it!
That old sled sounds way louder than that snow bike was. Sounded like an old school chainsaw just rippin up them hills. Love it.
Awesome seeing you rip that old sled gotta love the old things👌👌
You complain about not being able to get anywhere but I'm impressed at how well it's doing coming from someone who's used to riding an old indy 500
Great vid today. Loved it! Amazing how far technology has come… that said, you made old girl look pretty darn good.
Love it. Ya a 137” was “it” back in the day! Would 2” bar risers have helped with your sidehilling? And boondocking?
We've been sledding since the early 80s and have owned and ridden hard on a ton of sleds just like this one. We'd spend an entire day to make it to the pass in Lamoille Canyon (Elko, NV) in deep powder. We had the time of our lives. The video brought back a lot of memories for my husband and I. Now sell that thing before you blow your eardrums out or have it go down in a bad spot out there. Hah!
We don't want to go back to those sleds, ever!
Love it dude. It was awesome to see you shred on an old sled!
This mountain was first ever mountain i rode, it was back in 2017 on my dads 1979 11000 blizzard, great to see you and the crew havin a blast
Nice to see what those older sleds were actually capable of!!! Thanks for your videos
This was a great video, brought me back a few years. Now I’m looking for a machine of that vintage for my daughters to rip on.
This video brings back memories of when I was little riding the old vertical escape and the old freestyle in exactly the same zones. Zero suspension and the stupid loud can. Makes me want to bring the old iron out this week on my trip to Blue river!
Super cool! Looking for a sled like that old skidoo. I’m just a newbie and that sled looks like allot of fun.
Did a good amount of trail miles on a 2000 Formula Z 700, brings back memories.
as a man with an 800x, this is true xD
I used to have the older 670 Formula Z years ago and that bitch is still running to this day! untouched motor had 27k (kms) on it when I sold it
@@NightshiftCustom 670s last forever if you take care of em!
@@NightshiftCustom we had a ‘98 Formula Z 670 in our group. 20,000kms and did a preventative rebuild, compression was still strong. It also had the revolutionary AD Boivin rear suspension. Fun sled too!
Hell yeah! I run a 2003 800 144! Please post more old school sled mountain riding!
This was one of the best videos! I’m surprised you could sidehill at all with that beast! I’ve been wanting to get an old sled too. Next year!
I've been sledding since 1970 ..its funny hearing you talk about this reasonably modern sled as "vintage"
OMG, you bought it, it is exactly like my 98-99? !st year of Dess it was only on the 600 and They did not have the summit x out yet so for a short time (read one season) it was king of the un-moded mountain. This should be good (gets popcorn)
"It doesn't go anywhere" "I cant do anything", Yep, that's the early summit's. You ALWAYS went up from the road line because you could easily run out of gas trying to find your way back up if you went below the road line.
I am so glad to see you riding this just the same as I did my 600, and keep in mind, I was 6'2" and 220. lol
We didn't roll the sleds out of stucks because it would tear the windshield off and without it any real snow just rode over the hood, blinded you and cut the air to the sled.
Be terrified!". lol
I laughed when I saw your comment yesterday about your old zx knowing this video was coming
