    HAVAL Jolion is giving MG ZST a run for its money in 2022 in Australia. While currently MG has a larger market share than Haval, I can easily see how this emerging car brand from Great Wall Motors could seize the market segment of small to medium SUV buyers who want to see real value for their money.
    In this video I'll honestly compare our MG ZST 2021 with Haval Jolion 2022 top of the range Ultra model, looking at every element of the car that an average private car buyer would consider in Australia on 2022.

    Love the review. as a jolion owner… In the jolion, There is a mute button on the row of capacitive touch buttons under the screen. The on/off button in that row of buttons is used as the mute button… However yes it should be on the steering wheel but it ain’t for some reason 🤷🏻

    • @ValueCarsAU

      Thanks a lot for clarifying, Craig! I couldn't believe they didn't add it to the steering wheel, but ah well, there's lots to love there anyway!

      In the new hybrid the "hidden" mute button is still the radio/infotainment power button, right most of the row of captive buttons. Quick click mutes and a longer press puts the infotainment system into sleep mode

    Hi Dimitry, thank you for this video comparing the ZST and Jolion. That is right where I am now, trying to decide which one to buy. So I really appreciate your comments with which, I entirely agree. A couple of other key things over which Haval has the edge. Firstly, the Jolion is fitted with manual paddle gear shifters on the steering wheel whereas the ZST is not so fitted. And secondly, the Jolion rear seat divider folds down between the rear seats. As you know, this feature is lacking in the ZST and you made adverse remarks about that in an earlier video. A big negative for you at that time, hence a big plus for the Jolion now. A further comment I would make is that, although in both cars the rear seats fold down, those in the Jolion appear to definitely fold flatter than in the ZST. Finally, on the ZST, I did not particularly like the cruise controls being on a separate stalk (meaning three) on the steering wheel column whereas, on the Jolion, all cruise controls are embedded in the steering wheel itself. I should also mention that on both vehicles the sunroof is fitted with the soft, light-penetrating, fabric material which reminds me of shade cloth. I don't like it and had the Jolion been fitted with the more traditional roof covering for the sun roof, that would have clinched the deal for me. Thanks once again, I enjoy watching all your videos and I hope fellow viewers find my comments useful in addition to yours. Cheers.

      Hello Richard, thank you for summarising the points I've definitely glazed over a bit in this video - there was a lot to cover already... I agree with your additions, even though I've not tested many of those thoroughly enough myself. If I had to express a personal opinion, and IF I was buying the car right now (rather than considering to sell ZST then buy Jolion - which I probably am not convinced enough to put myself through...), so if I was choosing a brand new car again, I'd probably get a Jolion. As while ZST is very lovely, it feels "outdated" compared to Jolion 2022. And we haven't even mentioned the Heads-Up Display that Jolion Ultra has compared to ZST... It's very cool too! ;)

      It all depends on what you compare (both of these cars) to. They both drive pretty well, and compare on value rather closely. I'd personally go with GWM but stretch to H6, bypassing Jolion as it is a bit of an outdated model in GWM lineup in 2023.

    Fabulous insight as ZST is just a face lifted update of ZS. Haval has really updated their cars which make great alternatives within this price band - subjectivity the key as I think I like the narrowness of ZST for city use and if needed extra room I’d go for the HS as I think I prefer their styling plus if extra power needed then their is the HS AWD with the 2 litre turbo - great content as always 👍👍👍

    @derekdeed664 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Another great down to earth review, well done.
    I driven both the MG and Jolion and preferred the Jolion overall, the downside is MG requires 95 petrol which is going to cost more every time you visit the pump. I was sitting on the fence until the demonstrator models of the Jolion Hybrid arrived in NZ at the end of May, it is a totally different drive, much smoother and not having a dct gets away from that jerky turbo lag takeoff, I was so impressed I placed my order and put down a deposit on the spot, now just patiently waiting for delivery. Seriously if you get the opportunity take a Jolion Hybrid for a test drive.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  ปีที่แล้ว

      So, Jolion has a DCT after all? I didn't notice during my (relatively short) test drive. In my MG HS I felt the weirdness of how DCT worked straight away. Yep 95 petrol should be more expensive, but with the recent petrol price craziness in Australia, 91 sometimes costs very close to 95, hardly a massive saving, and Diesel that was always cheaper is now more expensive... Go figure what the hell is going on.... 🤷‍♂️

    Hello again Dimitry. Firstly, a big shout out of 'Thank you'' for your channel and the amazing reviews that you have provided. I find them to be down to earth, informative, and honest. I especially enjoyed your comparative review of the MG ZST and Haval Jolion as you really were comparing apples with apples. After a really punishing comparison of both cars, I finally settled on the Haval Jolion Ultra. I did the deal yesterday morning and will pick the car up next week. Why the Jolion? A couple of reasons really. Firstly, I think the Jolion provided slightly more of a 'bigger bang for the bucks' and secondly, as you alluded to, I felt that, as a new car, the Jolion felt like 'Next year's model" whereas by comparison, the MG seemed like 'Last year's car'. Many thanks again. I'm looking so much to driving this new car. Keep up the good work.

  • @the.educated.hedgehog
    @the.educated.hedgehog ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great practical review - the Haval Jolion is considered a compact SUV hence the "like a car" feel, H6 is their medium SUV offering. Agree on the steering wheel and getting a steering wheel cover does go a long way in solving it, great value for money but not perfect - from a driver.

The haval jolion looks good but the steering wheel not having reach will probably be a deal breaker for me as I have a bad shoulder, and those cup holders are weird. Such a shame if thise two things wete address the haval would be a winner for me.

      Take a look at Omoda 5, but I honestly think that the build quality is better on GWM out of all three, in all honesty. Then there's something like Toyota Corolla Cross in the same-ish ballpark of money and Honda HRV (that I'll review very soon - spoiler: don't buy!). Regarding the reach and your shoulder - take the car for a test drive and see. Reality is often different from specifications or reviews and it _might_ just be ok for you.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and good morning to you. All of this should be explained by your sales consultant when you test drive the car and I hope you DO go for a test drive by the way.... You mean P on the rotary gear shifter? You press it when ready to park as a shortcut from D to P basically. I've forgotten to press mine in the past and the car did parking automatically for me when the engine went off. The BREAK itself is separate from the P button - at least in my H6 - it's a little "switch-button" you pull with your finger when parking.

And I wouldn't even go Hybrid, because that's electrical complex technology - how are you going to maintain and support it in a country where new Toyotas aren't even sold? 🤷‍♂️ For long term 10+ years dealing with used cars always look at the network of support and what car parts are available, etc. Toyota would win long term in most places without a doubt.

    We inspected both the cars for some how me and my wife didn't like the interior of Jolion, I don't know why but it was a cheap plasticy feeling in joilion and ZST will give you a premium interior feeling and it's obvious that ZST is having a 1.3l T so it's fuel consumption is much much better than Jolion and I tell you that all these gimmcky tech in all the cars, people usuallly don't use it and prefer to drive the simple car although in Joilion there is a detection camera or sensor on the front which will observe you all the time and it's quite annoying. ZST is simple but powerful and quite fuel economical.
